This is the debut from a new band from Albacete (Spain) which take their artistic name from a very popular comic. Its a two piece formed by Modesto and Jose María. They first released two songs in a compilation by Jabalina label. The songs were called "El cohete de Zipi Zape" and "Donde". They excellently fit in some new burgeoning Spanish pop scene, and we decided they were perfect for featuring a single for our club.
Modesto and Jose María had played together in a mod band called PRISMATICOS. They still love the music and aesthetics of the sixties, but ZIPI ZAPE has also room for more electronic, contemporary stuff, like NEW ORDER or Elefant classic artists FAMILY or CARLOS BERLANGA.
And here is their debut single, including four excellent tracks full of that inocence and charm only to be found in debuts. Qualities, that, needless to be said, we really appreciate.
ZIPI ZAPEs music is sweet, smooth techno pop, simple and clean. It mixes strumming guitars with programmed background and lovely keyboard riffs. Modesto whispers stories about summer lovers and heartbreaks, tennis courts and trips to London; everything is narrated with a strong dose of melancholy and sweetness, making this single something very special and nice to listen to.
They sometimes give their songs a slight bossa-nova touch, like in the gorgeous "Verano de amor" ("Summer of love").
If you feel like to listening more by this new Spanish outfit, well release pretty soon a compilation called "Spanish course", featuring new Spanish bands. There you will find a new song by ZIPI ZAPE called "Vacaciones en París".
