A long time ago, when the word "records" after the "Elefant" wasnt but a dream yet to come true, rather than a reality, we released a compilation tape called "Positively Dolphin Friendly". On it, among many other international indie-pop jewels (HOME AND ABROAD, THE LOVELIES…), there was a band called BULLDOZER CRASH (do you remember their singles on Sunday Records, or on Heaven, the FAT TULIPS label?), led by one Stephen Maughan, who also used to publish a fanzine called "This Almighty Pop".
Everything has changed since then: Elefant Records has already released hundreds of pop references, "This Almighty Pop" is now a webzine (look for it in the net!) and Stephen runs now a new project called DENVER, where he shows his pure passion for pop. For the making of this record he relied on another old friend of ours, now reknown and admired worlwide: Jyoti Mishra, from WHITE TOWN.
As his friend Jyoti, Stephen works his compositions at home, with his own recording equipment, though this time he let the man behind WHITE TOWN give him a helping hand as co-author of the song "World Of Pages", and as a musician putting some colourful keyboards into the same song.
The influence of Lawrence, unique genius since the beginning of the eighties, is flying over both songs: the fantastic DENIM on "World Of Pages", the awesome FELT on "Elizabeth Browns Wedding Day", and Lawrences voice as the most remarkable reference of Stephens own voice. As smart as them, and as bright as the best moments of WHITE TOWN.
