We proudly present you a mysterious Melbourne, Australia band which has released singles in labels as prestigious as Wurlitzer Jukebox or Bad Jazz. They also have a complete CD on American DriveIn label. A pleasure to have them in our single club, with two exclusive tracks.
They are quite a young band, but this doesn´t mean unexperienced: they released some works -under the name of THE CAT´S MIAOW- on the early nineties, but not as good as the songs they´ve been creating for the last years as HYDROPLANE. In the beginning it was just a short-lived project: the plan was to release just a single and then disappear; but as that single was eventually called "Excerpts from a forthcoming album", going ahead made much sense. Now, after having received excellent reviews by the British press, plus constant praising from John Peel, we must agree they made the right decision.
HYDROPLANE´s music is dreamy and dark; it runs smoothly surrounding the listener in a misty haze of devious basslines, sparkling guitars and distant, luminous excellent feminine vocals.
The title track, "Failed Adventure", is a delightful lullaby which reminds us of the smoothiest PALE SAINTS, or the CRANES but far more sweeter and palatable.
The flip, "Now You Know Everything There Is To Know", is a bit more luminous and rhythmical, though the overall effect, with its echoes of the eternally missed GALAXIE 500, brings to mind the words "ethereal" and "quiet" again. Plus "bloody brilliant", that´s for granted.
Two delicate treats for your ears from one of the most promising acts of the current pop scene. Give in to HYDROPLANE´s sheer beauty.
