We are closing the cycle for the latest album by ALPACA SPORTS, “From Paris With Love”, with a Digital Single for “Saddest Girl In The World”. This song is 100% trademark them, with brilliant guitars; fresh, addictive melodies, and lyrics full of melancholy. What’s more, it is accompanied by “Letters”, a previously unreleased song that is a delicate and fragile mid-tempo acoustic.

And further, we are also going to present the video for the album’s title track. For this song, they used an old Super 8 camera and colorful eighties-esque backgrounds, with simultaneous or superimposed images and takes. This video reminds us of scenes and videos from Tiffany or Molly Ringwald. It is so charming.

And with this, we have closure on an album that has been a dream come true for Elefant Records: to be able to release a full-length album from the group fronted by Andreas Jonsson. But the songs will continue to play in our stereos while we wait for new songs from the Swedish band.

We are still enjoying the treasures from ALPACA SPORTS’ last album, and we are releasing this new Digital Single taken from “From Paris With Love”, an album full of precious songs that tells the story of Andreas’ time in the capital of France. One of the biggest gems on this album is the opening track, “I’ll Do Anything You Want”. The song has touches of soul and disco but with a jangly spirit working for a chorus that is equal parts danceable and exciting.

In fact, both Andreas and Lisle coincide in referencing ORANGE JUICE when they talk about the songwriting process for this song. Andreas tells it this way: “When I sent the first demo to Lisle remember I felt quite unhappy about it, because I wasn’t able to make it sound near as good as it sounded in my head. I wanted it to feel very dancy with jangly guitars and bouncy drums, and the Glasgow band ORANGE JUICE was a big inspiration. I mentioned this to Lisle and the next day I received an amazing demo which was better than I could ever imagine”. To which Lisle answered: “The timing was good for me, because I was listening a lot to ORANGE JUICE’s second record at the time, so I think it was subconscious to make the drums and guitar a bit like “Rip It Up”. I think because Andreas was so pleased with what I did with the first demo, he allowed me to indulge in makin [ Read more ]

Saying that following the trajectory of Andreas Jonsson and ALPACA SPORTS is like travelling all around the world is no understatement, and in fact, sometimes it’s literal. Their videos, songs, and albums have repeatedly reflected the different cities they’ve traveled and lived in. Their melodies reflect their adventurous spirit, which has grown even bigger on their new album, “From Paris With Love”. In 2016, Andreas moved to Paris, and he and Lisle Mitnik began writing songs together about what the city transmitted, about what it means to start again in a new place, and about what you have to leave behind. All of these feelings are captured and expressed in this collection of twelve songs full of sincerity that will help you hold onto experiences that can be forgotten and get lost with the passing of time.

There have been a lot of expectations about the arrival of this second full-length album from the Swedish group, considering that their previous album, “Sealed With A Kiss&rd [ Read more ]

This September, the long-awaited second album from ALPACA SPORTS will finally be released. The group comes from a long line of Swedish indie pop, which traces back to groups like CLUB 8 and SAMBASSADEUR. “From Paris With Love” will arrive with twelve new songs that tell us the story of the feelings singer/guitarist Andreas Jonsson had when he relocated to Paris in 2016.

The crystalline guitars are back, and so are co-writer Lisle Mitnik’s lush arrangements. And as always, beneath the optimistic pop melodies, ALPACA SPORTS’ signature melancholy lyrics evoke a subtle sadness, as heard in this second single, “Nobody Cares But Me”. Beginning with the dreamy vocals of singer Amanda Åkerman, the song explores the disillusionment of discovering life doesn’t always turn out the way you expect it to, and the struggles of trying to reclaim our youthful idealism. This dichotomy of expectation vs. reality is further explored in the new video by Carl Jirestedt, where images of our protagonists’ pastoral Swedish landscapes mix with vivid interiors, all loaded with suggestive doses of intimacy and color.

Another thing we like about this release is discovering a B side as solid as “Baby Pop”, a fantastic song that is an exclusive release for this Digital Single. There’s a reason their early 7” Singles are so sought after and coveted – it’s the quality of these “extra” songs tha [ Read more ]

Elefant Records is proud to announce the return of international pop super group ALPACA SPORTS with their newest single, “Summer Days”, taken from the upcoming album, “From Paris With Love”.

ALPACA SPORTS were formed in late 2011 by Andreas Jonsson. Having previously been in a band called BLUEKICKS with his childhood friend Carl Jirestedt, Jonsson struck out on his own, but called on several friends to help form his musical vision. Chief among them were Jirestedt and vocalist Amanda Åkerman. Their first single, 2012's "Just For Fun", was released by the Swedish label Luxury. It was the start of a long relationship, as the label released the "She'll Come Back For Indian Summer" and "I Was Running" singles in 2012 and the "As Long As I Have You", "Telephone" and "He Doesn't Even Like You" singles in 2013. Each record had a distinctive cover created by Japanese artist Ray Kimura.

ALPACA SPORTS' profile grew with each single, enchanting fans of classic indie pop worldwide with their sweetness and songs. The band played well-received sets at the 2013 NYC Popfest, as well as several European festivals and in Japan. In 2014 they issued another single, "Just Like Johnny Marr", then followed it with the “Sealed With A Kiss” album, which included many of the singles.

After signing with Spain's Elefant Records, they returned in 2015 with the Mini-LP “ [ Read more ]

This October, it has been one year since Elefant Records released “When You Need Me The Most”, the fantastic 10” Mini-LP by our beloved ALPACA SPORTS. It is a precious album, that makes it clear how good the Swedish group is at crafting eternal, delicious, enjoyable pop songs, like “There's No One Like You”, “Just Like Them”, “Need Me The Most” and “I Love You”. And, in honor of the occasion, we are celebrating the anniversary with the release of a new video, the fourth and final one taken from this Mini-LP. This time, the featured song is the wonderful “Where'd You Gocategoría”, and the video shows us the band’s recent tour in Japan, interweaving concert scenes with diverse Japanese experiences.

ALPACA SPORTS are currently working on songs for their new LP, which is expected to be released in 2017, and which we will have more news about soon.
