There is no question that we are in the midst of a marvelous moment for AXOLOTES MEXICANOS. Olaya’s supergroup has recently released an incredible album, “4ever”, which after 10 years of the band’s career, is just as powerful and fresh as ever. We are celebrating this opportunity by rereleasing their first two albums, which have been sold out since forever ago. First, we have “Holi <3”, their 10” Mini-LP (released 2 years after their debut single “Infectados”), a gem that originally came out on white vinyl and that now we are bringing you in pink. This is the album that made all the qualities we love so much about that band clear: their love of J-Pop and Asian culture, their punk, unbiased attitude. Then, we’re also rereleasing their first album, “Salu2”, which shared the concept for the album cover with the previous one, and where we talked non-stop about HELEN LOVE, JUNIPER MOON, but also about KERO KERO BONITO and TOFUBEATS. It is an unfathomable, unpredictable spectrum of styles, and they are not afraid of playing with digital sounds or with guitars, and they created a space for a countless number of groups that came after them.

These albums have been objects of desire for hunters of out-of-print gems for a long time, and we will finally be able to enjoy these songs on vinyl.

AXOLOTES MEXICANOS have been around for over ten years now. When this adventure started everyone knew for sure they were going to mark the identity of a generation of music. They are capable of bringing together in one single song so many different influences – J-Pop, manga, the most disturbing punk, horror films… They represented the voice of a small majority restless, slippery spirits hungry for life and electricity. After all this time and several singles, a Mini-LP and three albums (including this “4ever” that we are introducing here), they are a super-group. The members have all developed diverse projects that have influenced the different sounds and scenes of the national panorama. Hold on tight because there are twists and turns: CAROLINA DURANTE, CONFETI DE ODIO, TEMERARIO MARIO, Stephen Please, NO FUCKS… But above all they are what they are because they have a frontwoman as unique and inimitable as Olaya Pedrayes. All of this, together with their personal sound, makes us think of them as a gi [ Read more ]

With the third full-length from AXOLOTES MEXICANOS about to be released, we are bringing you this last advance single – the third after “Amarre” and “Himawari”. It’s one of those singles that gives you a bit of a chill just to say its name, because AIKO EL GRUPO has joined forces with AXOLOTES MEXICANOS to bring us this gift that is “ROSAS y ESPINAS”, a banquet for the ears of the most savage of punk-pop fans and for wild moshing. That is just what we see in the music video directed by Gómez Selva (LOS CHIVATOS): Olaya, Juan, Mario, Stephen y Lucas unleashing their powerful energy when Teresa, Lara and Bárbara invade the stage. From then on its an explosion, rage, release, horror movies and that last “spiritual” shot that we don’t want to spoil. See it for yourselves. It’s quite an adventure. Two groups that are known for their carefree spirit, their untamed electricity, their “radically assertive” lyrics. A coming together like this had to lead to another crazy electric storm.

It’s almost here. After “Amarre”, AXOLOTES MEXICANOS are back with another advance single from their imminent new album “4ever”. And look out, because “Himawari” is one of those fascinating shifts from AXOLOTES, since this new song has some of the Shibuya-kei sound from the early 2000s, touches of rumba, echoes of anime intro and a luminous and catchy melody. Its freshness becomes something brilliant and sing-songy with Juan’s production work, and mixed with Olaya’s clever lyrics it rounds out into an unquestionable, danceable, unbiased, very liberating hit. “Ojalá no viviera en un piso interior / Me olvidaría de tus dramas mirando por el balcón” (If only I lived in an apartment that didn’t have views of the street / I’d forget about your dramas looking out over the balcony). That’s how it goes. Get ready because AXOLOTES MEXICANOS new album is shaping up to be something special.

It has been a while since we heard from AXOLOTES MEXICANOS (although all the members of the band remain highly active, artistically). But we can finally bring you the advance of what will be their next album. Check out this smash hit from Olaya and her crew. “Amarre” is pure, hyper-melodic punk and it sounds incredible. The sparkling production work from Juan Pedrayes together with the mixing and mastering by Daniel Alcover (LA LA LOVE YOU, DOVER, SEX MUSEUM…) multiplies the group’s already powerful catchiness, adding definition and energy without losing a drop of rage or nuance. The result is glorious, evoking classics of the genre like NOFX and BLINK 182, while at the same time keeping that more current sound that sometimes ties into the Japanese sound, the more punk, fun part of 100 GECS, the ever-present KERO KERO BONITO and even that vocal styling in the choruses like LA CASA AZUL. And Stephen and Olaya with their lyrics, so them, so unique, and this time, with exercises in witchcraft to conquer the object of affection that winds up revealing this, no more no less: “Te quedan sólo dos meses de vida / Ya es muy tarde, esto no tiene salida / Cuando estés bajo tierra enterrado / Yo estaré ahí a tu lado” (You have two months left to live / It’s too late, there’s no escape / When you’re buried underground / I will be at your side). Intense moshing guaranteed.

References to Japanese culture have always been present in AXOLOTES MEXICANOS’s music, and there is no question that these references are more and more a part of the group’s overall esthetic and concept. And this single is the final touch. Check it out. Olaya and her guys take the Opening 4 from the super famous anime show Monogatari, by Kana Hanazawa, rewriting it in Spanish, fusing it with BACHY’s Latin-styled version, and giving it that personal touch of theirs somewhere between hyper-pop, the most danceable techno-pop and a punk spirit. To celebrate the occasion, they invited CIBERCHICO (from the active Valencian collective, Toxic Pop) to work with them on a stellar collaboration, in a style that fits like a glove. The result – it’s the Nintendo Music dream team on the dance floor. That irresistible double chorus that we will sing until we can’t anymore. It is such a rush to sing and dance too on repeat.

But the party doesn’t end there. To make the video, they called their friends Dani Rato (who in addition to making videos for Stephen Please, 9CKLES and CONFETI DE ODIO, plays with CONFETI, MEEKY and NO FUCKS) and AION Club (who has made videos for FUEL FANDANGO, LA MALA RODRÍGUEZ, DUKI and BIZARRAP) and told them to go crazy. And the resultí The otaku party dream team, in the WHO studios: videogames, dancing (the original song obviously had to be included, with Tania Love_letter as the guest star), cycloramas, pain [ Read more ]

We finally have gotten our hands on “:3” (colon three) and we know that AXOLOTES MEXICANOS are exploring new paths in their own sound. “Vergüenza” is one of clearest examples of this, thanks especially to the production work by Juan Pedrayes. J-Pop, RnB, Disco, Gameboy Music and Europop in one of those syncopated productions that is full of playful melodies. Catchy, fun, rebellious, lively. It is quite an anthem. But also, following the collection of crazy videos they have been putting out with this album, for “Vergüenza”, and under the direction of Alberto de Santos and the production of TABACO, they have put together a kind of super fun dating contest, with Olaya as the main contestant. The situation lends to the appearance of a handful of deranged characters and eccentric costumes, with some hilarious moments and a spectacular ending. But we don’t want to give anything away. Enjoy “Vergüenza” and this quintet full of never-ending vitality.

Over the last few months, we have finally been giving advances of the new AXOLOTES MEXICANOS album. The busy schedules of the band members (CAROLINA DURANTE, CONFETI DE ODIO, TEMERARIO MARIO, Stephen Please, NO FUCKS, etc) have made us have to wait, but we can now say that it was worth it. Because “:3” (colon three) takes on everything. It is a leap forward, an impulsive investigation in which everything deserves to be given a shot. Styles, sounds, stories. That is why the album from Olaya, Juan, Lucas, Mario and Stephen is an absolute musical whirlwind, a journey that is overflowing with energy, beyond our wildest imagination.

The “Opening” makes it very clear. Somewhere between fanfare and Japanese “openings”, between Hanna-Barbera and HAZEL NUTS CHOCOLATE, with a strong festive and choral spirit, with a shout of “La chapa que me das / No la puedo soportar / Me entran ganas de potar” (Your endless talking / I can’t take it / It makes me want to puke), opens the album. Irreverence, with no room for doubt. We had already heard “Cara De Idiota” and that pure pop spirit driven by a powerful and irrefutable rhythm section. And they also know how to be sweet when they want to be. In their own way, of course. “Vergüenza” is full of J-Pop, RnB, it sounds furiously contemporary, and it is one of the best pieces of evidence of the level Juan Pedrayes has reached as a producer. TRACKLIST: 01 Que Te Pires

AXOLOTES MEXICANOS have reinvented punk. As they have been shelling out new songs from their imminent new album, “:3” (colon three), they have been showing us that they have been able to effervescently express the experience they have acquired in these last few years as a group, though their various side projects (CAROLINA DURANTE, CONFETI DE ODIO, TEMERARIO MARIO, Stephen Please, NO FUCKS, etc), and above all though Juan’s work as a producer. The thing is, “Que Te Pires”, the third advance from the album, is the epitome of all of this. It is a punk attitude that is full of rage, exacerbated, out of control, with touches of contemporary R&B, reggaeton, autotune and influences of some Japanese groups. The lyrics hold nothing back at all. Fury and aggression, power, no restraint. With people insisting at this point that innovation is not possible anymore, AXOLOTES MEXICANOS pull this ace out of their sleeve where the reformulate the most authentic and nascent punk codes in the most incredible way. And they take this all the way to the video, made by the Colectivo Súper Sentai and with the collaboration of the actor Manuel Macías: terror and Halloween, blood and violence, fear and loathing, noise, fury. The AXOLOTES are a voice of the present, built on the foundations of a history that they have always been willing to tear down.

TRACKLIST: 01 Cara De Idiota

A few weeks ago, we received “Uwu”, the first advance from the new AXOLOTES MEXICANOS album, which will arrive next year, after the band members have spent some time developing successful paths with their other projects (CAROLINA DURANTE, CONFETI DE ODIO, TEMERARIO MARIO, Stephen Please, NO FUCKS etc). And now we have this second advance from that highly anticipated new album that will be called “:3”, an appetizer that just makes us, if possible, even more excited and anxious about a release that promises to be one of the most important releases of 2021. “Cara De Idiota” is an exercise in pop with acoustic guitars and a clearer, more pristine focus, but with those distorted guitars doing their thing in the background. It is impeccable pop, full of energy, classicism, but without losing even a touch of the freshness and excitement. LOS PUNSETES, ALVVAYS, BEST COAST, COLA JET SET and even HEAVENLY all come to mind. With colorful manga-accented cover art by Olaya, produced by Juan Pedrayes, mixed and mastered by Carlos Hernández, “Cara De Idiota” shows the AXOLOTES unerring ability to make unquestionable hits, their sonic maturity, and their undeniable solidness. What’s more, to go along with the release of this Digital Single, Diego Jiménez has made a tremendously fun video, in which we can see an absolutely carefree AXOLOTES MEXICANOS, hitting each other, painting on each ot [ Read more ]

It has been a while since we heard from AXOLOTES MEXICANOS, but we can’t say the members of the group haven’t been giving us musical and artistic news. Juan and Mario have been unleashing their great talents with CAROLINA DURANTE; Lucas has continued to show us his tremendous personality with CONFETI DE ODIO; and Olaya has continued letting her boundless imagination run wild with illustrations and stagings, and has collaborated with her fantastic voice on the hit “El Fin Del Mundo” by LA LA LOVE YOU, and on the new version of “Programa En Espiral” by EL AVIADOR DRO Y SUS OBREROS ESPECIALIZADOS. Meanwhile, Stephen has gone back to Barcelona and has started playing bass again with the group, while giving us songs from his personal project, under the name Stephen Please and his group NO FUCKS. Yes, the AXOLOTES seem to be one of those groups that are the origin of an infinite number of things. That is why we needed their new songs, so here we have a little dose in the form of a Digital Single: “Uwu”.

And as always, they play up their perfect example of an attitude, beginning with the titles of the songs. “Te Quiero (…)” has a thicker, more solid sound that their previous recordings, maintaining that punk spirit but with traces of noise, for this story of falling out of love, spite, the disappointment of not really knowing where a relationship is going. With, by the way, a totally unleashed Olaya. As if no time ha [ Read more ]

This is a new era for pop, in so many different ways, and the AXOLOTES MEXICANOS have been and continue to be, without a doubt, one of the most pressing promises on the national scene. Their Mini-LP and their Singles have been models in audacity and strength. And here they are again, at last! And we can’t even believe it. “Salu2” is an album that reflects a moment in time, starting with the title itself, and the cover.

The instrumental “Intro” and “Astor” go right into what we were expecting – unhinged, hyper-energetic, catchy, youthful and speedy pop-punk with lyrics that twist your heart into a knot. But then “Doble Check” comes on, and your head spins. Those fat, broken, fragile beats, a slippery song that still maintains every last drop of the immediacy of its predecessors intact. Capital letter POP, twenty-first century pop. “Trececatorce” dives head first into sped-up J-pop. “Nacida Para Sufrir” and “Sin Ti” are euro-pop, disco, pop-punk… HELEN LOVE, JUNIPER MOON, SHAMPOO, early PHOENIX… But no, there’s autotune, those twisted frequencies, they talk about TOFUBEATS and KERO KERO BONITO…

And yes, again, only two of the thirteen songs on the album reach the three-minute mark. They maintain the impeccable effectiveness of their choruses, as, to give an example, “Menos 100” and “Vaga” demonstrate. And yes, there are more example [ Read more ]

With the support of Carlos René on production work and a few songs, which he also plays live with them now, Juan and Olaya Pedrayes have written a surprising album that puts them right in the spotlight of the here and now of national music. "Salu2" will be released on May 2018 in vinyl (500-copy, numbered-limited-edition, transparent vinyl) and digital format, and will definitely have people writing and talking about it. From Asturias to Japan, back and forth with stops in Madrid, the new single from AXOLOTES MEXICANOS has all the elements that make them unique: synthesizers taken from one of CAPSULE’s songs, harmonies and arpeggios that would make TOFUBEATS’ heads explode, super high speed pulled from PLUS-TECH SQUEEZE BOX and punk guitars that give shape to a new collection of perfect pop songs. OlayaJuan and Stephen are all grown up, and if they wrote love lyrics about space monsters, zombies and wiener dogs before, now we can hear Olaya singingabout failedrelationships, love (a little) and losing love (a lot more).

“Trececatorce” opens with keyboards that we could hear at the end of any anime, and without realizing it you have been carried away by two minutes of melodies drawn by runaway synthesizers that culminate in that ending that lets us know once again that AXOLOTES MEXICANOS are experts at building fresh, frenetic, contagious songs. “Hazañas Bélicas” is a cover of a song that in 1981 was the title track of the also-Asturian group, STUKAS’ first album. It’s a re-visioning of a classic totally taken to the Axolote-universe – accelerated, exorbitant, and full of rage and energy in an impossible mix somewhere between AIRBAG, HELEN LOVE, EEL, JUNIPER MOON and POLYSICS. They close this love triangle with “XXX”, where they show, once again, their ability to compose songs overf [ Read more ]
