"Los Siervos De La Gleba" An advance Single in digital format of their upcoming LP "La Falta Básica" [Release Date: 1st July]

“Los Siervos De La Gleba” is about, a parallel between feudal society and current society in which BLA, without leaving the condemning behind, use their ingenuity to turn it into a passionate medieval love story in which they ask in exchange, at least, from life, for a more medieval love, more brutal, the love of dragons and fire and darkness. The subject directly inspired the wardrobe that Oscar Guimarey made for the cover and the album’s promotional image, with a touch of romance belonging to a medieval princess-dragon in denim for Belén and for Luis he made a laborer uniform with armor, also in denim. The philosophy moved Rafi Gnecco and Maria LaMuy of I Loop You and BLA to choose cardboard as the total image for their cover photo and the video, as the representative element of austerity.

“La Mejor Enfermedad” was a significant leap in the musical career of Luis G. Morais and Belén Chanes: from wild, barefaced techno-pop of L-KAN to the mastered and paused electronic pop with BLA’s acoustic accents. After more than two years of silence, they’re back with “La Falta Básica,” with the belief that [ Read more ]

On March 3rd we have the “Mad Madrid 5×25” party, where 5 groups from the capital city will play for 25 minutes each, with a range of groups from established ones that have already put out albums, like BLA, to Belén and Luis from L-KAN’s parallel project, to others that will soon form part of our “New Adventures in Pop” collection – as is the case with TEACHER TEACHER (a super new band formed by María(CHARADES), Cristina (WILD HONEY) y Guille (WILD HONEY, THE MITTENS) – and including some who already form a part of that collection, like ULTRANOL, BAND À PART and CAPITÁN SUNRISE. Some of the best representations of the new pop being made in Madrid, who can ensure that it will be a special, magical night, where surprises abound. And there will be DJs to finish off the party on the highest note possible.

Groups like THE SCHOOL, BAND À PART, FITNESS FOREVER, PAPA TOPO, LOS BONSÁIS, SINGLE, CORAZÓN, GUATAFÁN, CAPITÁN SUNRISE and DJs like Guille Milkyway, Pepito Prieto, Bob Stanley, and our very own Luis Elefant have already made stops on Siroco’s stage, making every single person in the audience twist and shout, in events that are already basically obligatory for anyone who loves the best pop. Nights like these get written indelibly in one’s memory.

This coming March 21st the latest release from Luis and Belén goes on sale. Luis and Belén, those restless instigators of the Madrid nightlife, have momentarily stepped aside from L-KAN in order to work on a more organic, fresh and colourful sound in this new adventure that they baptized as BLA. In this case we are talking about a digital single whose main star is that “Yo soy como Portugal” that we already heard on their debut album, “La mejor enfermedad”, and whose fantastic video, directed by Llaüt Digital, was launched just a few short weeks ago. The video shows Belén walking through a series of fun, but at the same time terrifying, misfortunes.

This new release incluyes a version of “Yo no soy esa” by Mari Trini, on which, with their usual dose of humor (that game of confrontations with the single’s title), but at the same time full of intensity and daring, they take on a total revisioning of the Spanish classic from ’72, with those distorted guitars marking the rhythm. Another of the single’s great gifts is a previously unreleased track, “La casa de las chicas”, a wonderful song that moves from classic seventies disco to contemporary techno-pop with surprising ease and originality, leaving us with a sunny, lively song (one of BLA’s strongest qualities) that is both danceable and full of precious melodies. To wrap things up, a remix of “Yo soy como Portugal”, on [ Read more ]

"Yo soy como Portugal" is without a dout one of the best songs on BLA’s debut album and one of their fans’ favorite songs, which they react to euphorically in concerts. "La mejor enfermedad", their introduction to the world, is one of the most refreshing and interesting debuts of 2010 and has placed them directly on the list of the most promising groups of the new independent scene in our country. "Te espío y te archivo", on its own merits, had the privelege of being their first video-clip; a close, intimate and day-to-day piece of work, brilliantly done by Nadia Portillo. BLA’s next audiovisual step was destined to be "Yo soy como Portugal" and the result has been an explosion of authentic sickness. Lluís Prieto (Llaüt Digital) was responsible for forming a story that so many people identify with as well as a reality, which is Portugal, into images, which work as the perfect simile.

After causing a huge impact wth the first two video-clips for PAPA TOPO, Lluís Prieto has once again managed to create a fascinating world where one embarrassment comes right after the other, and everything you can imagine happens to Belén, our accidental star, until she finally lands on a beach in Portugal. But the best thing to do is see the video for yourself to enjoy and be captivated by an amazing song and a superb exercise in cinematography. Portugal, Portugal, Portugal, one day I will visit you!! The best youth: L-KAN have given color to those interminable nights on the best techno-pop dance floors Madrid has to offer with albums like “Cosas Que Miden Poco” and “Discazo”. But the moment arrives to change direction, to open new doors, to try new things, and the irreverent immediacy turns into uncontainable restlessness. Luis and Belén (huge activists of the Madrid night-life, responsible for clubs like Ocho y Medio and Elástico) decide to form BLA (an L-KAN parallel project) to let loose all of those things that are going on in their heads, with music geared toward a more organic sound with slightly sharper lyrics. The first result of all this is “La Mejor Enfermedad”, an album that finds its two composers with much clearer ideas, with a new proposal in their hands, and with a highly uncommon ability with arrangements and melodies. From the fantasy of “Cómo Seremos” to the irreverence of  “Los Exnovios”, from the delicacy of “Yo Soy Como Portugal” to the introspection of “Mira Lo Que Se Oye Cuando Estamos Callados”. From the totally obvious reference to the dance floor in “Siempre Hay Una Más” to the perfectionist pop of “La Canción Que Nunca Llegó a Serlo”. Luis and Belén have brought us something refreshing, original, new, and above all fun, assimilating their inheritance of those who are most representative [ Read more ]

Hello Everyone!Another year has passed, a special year for us as we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the label, and we did it the best way we know how: releasing a ton of good music. We put out 22 new releases in total – 13 albums and 9 singles. It was an intense year in every way it could be and a year in which a little bit of everything that can happen, happened. And despite all of the problems that the music world is going through we managed to survive another year and we are full of hope and excitement about 2010.

We are aware of the requests and the things that fans of the label are most worried about and we are working hard on all of it in order to try to have everything organized and updated in the first few months of the new year, so that it is easier to be up to date with everything that’s happening with our groups and our label. We’ve been working on the new Elefant website for the last few weeks, a new website that will maintain a similar design to the old website, but that will be much easier to use, much more intuitive, faster, and clearer. Yes, we are getting rid of Real Audio and you’ll be able to listen to the songs without having a player installed, and you’ll be able to change quickly and simply from the site in Spanish to the site in English from any page. We’re also going to have our new Elefant On-line store with great improvements. We’re closing deals to be able to have the entire catalog available on Spoti [ Read more ]
