We already announced a few weeks ago that one of the most incredible festivals in the international panorama, the British Indietracks, had decided to pay homage to Elefant Records for their 20th anniversary, letting us organize the main stage in honor of the occasion. So, the line-up is finally, definitely confirmed, and pay attention because the two last-minute confirmations are spectacular: first, STEREO TOTAL, the French-German electro-pop duo and one of the most exciting bands you can see live; and second, the Sunday headliners are TEENAGE FANCLUB. The band of Norman Blake, author of such enduring hymns as “Sparky’s dream” and “The concept”, and of incomparable discs like “Thirteen”, “Grand Prix” and “Bandwagonesque”, will play us a set with their greatest hits that will serve as a culmination of one of the most amazing weeks we could have ever dreamed of. Groups that are also on the confirmed list are CAMERA OBSCURA, AU REVOIR SIMONE, LA CASA AZUL, COOPER, BMX BANDITS, LUCKY SOUL, THE FRANK AND WALTERS, Rose Ellinor Dougall, SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, COLA JET SET, THE SCHOOL, TENDER TRAP, FITNESS FOREVER, Nick Garrie, MODULAR, SUCRETTE and DJ POLAR. The indie event of the season, the meeting point for all lovers of the most immediate and refreshing pop, at which there will be dozens of concerts, sessions, workshops, parties… You already know, July 24th to 26th in Butterley (Derbyshire county). The British festival Indietracks is paying homage to Elefant Records for our twentieth birthday, giving us control of the organization of the main stage as a present. Indietracks, whose third edition will take place July 24th, 25th and 26th in an old railway station in Butterley (Derbyshire county), has turned into a worldwide, can’t-miss event for fans of the best of indie pop, having brought such bands as Darren Hayman (HEFNER), THE WEEDING PRESENT, COMET GAIN and LOS CAMPESINOS! to previous editions. This year the leap in the festival’s importance and size is considerable, with a total of five stages and an incredible quantity of bands and DJs. That’s why Elefant has been so conscientious (and this is the first time an independent Spanish label organizes a stage at an international festival) to choose unforgettable names, many of which are still unrevealed surprises, including a headliner. Among a mix of bands from the label, friends, and suggestions that we have fallen irrevocably in love with and that have served as an inspiration for Elefant, twenty artists will play on the Elefant stage over the three days of the festival, and here we’re telling you in advance about the first confirmations: CAMERA OBSCURA, AU REVOIR SIMONE, BMX BANDITS, Rose Elinor Dougall, THE FRANK & WALTERS, FITNESS FOREVER, THE SCHOOL, Nick Garrie, LUCKY SOUL, SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, COOPER, LA CASA AZUL (in their only concert this year), COLA JET SET, SUCRETTE, TENDER T [ Read more ]

At Elefant we are congratulating ourselves on the release, for the second time, of the exclusive 7” of one of the most vital and active groups of the Scottish pop scene. Duglas T. Stewart put together a handful of unreleased songs in this item that marks the sepia tinted memory of the most elegantly poppy seventies, led by the piano, evoking the halo of composers like Burt Bacharach or Henry Mancini and artists like Dusty Springfield or Françoise Hardy. From the new version of “Our Secret Life” in French, rebaptized here as “Quand il n’y a plus d’amour” (with the French adaptation by Nick Garrie) to the closing gem of the EP, a version of “Hopelessly Devoted to You” that Olivia Newton-John sang in “Grease”, on of our favorite films, which Duglas deliciously recreates with the collaboration of the Scottish band THE ATTIC LIGHTS. The single is completed with two very recent recordings, the unreleased “I Can Wait Forever”, intimate folk pop marked with elegant melodies and vocals, and a version of “You Don’t Want to Be My Girlfriend, Phoebe” by MY LITTLE AIRPORT. When Duglas received MY LITTLE AIRPORT’s album, published by Elefant, he fell instantly in love with the song. He played it live a few days later and soon after decided to record it in the studio, the magnificent result of which is here. A precious collection of songs with the indelible stamp of one of the most [ Read more ]
