REISSUE 2023 IN CLEAR VINYL

There are groups who grew up with Elefant Records, who were a turning point for the label and its development, and who fill us with pride when we look back and see their discography and the milestones they have reached. All of this is coming up because of CAMERA OBSCURA, that group that Stuart Murdoch (BELLE & SEBASTIAN) discovered and which he became obsessed with, to the point of producing their third single (“Eighties Fan”), directing the corresponding music video, doing the arrangements on their first album, and so many more things. We fell in love with that song and it made us license their first album, “Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi” for the whole world, and then sign them with Elefant Records and release their following two albums on our label for the entire planet, until they wound up signing with 4AD, the label that groups like COCTEAU TWINS, STEREOLAB, THE NATIONAL, GRIMES and the PIXIES spent time with.

The time has come to re-release those two sought after albums that have been out of print for so long on vinyl, “Underachievers Please Try Harder” (2003) and “Let’s Get Out Of This Country” (2006). The latter was their definitive confirmation, the album that brought them to perform halfway around the world and made them known by a larger audience than the gem hunters who already loved them from their first album “Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi”. “Underachievers Pl [ Read more ]

In the late 90’s, a Japanese visual artist called Chop Pop fell in love with Scottish pop music. She listened to John Peel’s program sometimes online, where he frequently played Glasgow groups like BELLE & SEBASTIAN, CAMERA OBSCURA, THE DELGADOS, ARAB STRAP and BMX BANDITS. When Chop Pop heard CAMERA OBSCURA’s “Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi”, it changed her life completely and she decided that she had to go to Glasgow. In 2003, she spent 6 months in the city, going to see her favorite groups perform live, and in 2005 she went back to spend a full year learning english and enjoying the city and its music scene.

She started making videos for her favorite songs, using her specialty – papercutting. With this material, combined with the stop-motion technique, Chop Pop has created incredible, colorful videos. All of this culminated with the artistic project “Love Letters To Glasgow”.

A few years ago, she carried out the complex work of recreating CAMERA OBSCURA’s video for “Let’s Get Out Of This Country” in her papercutting technique, which you can see on our YouTube channel:

  <br />

To make the video, she used 196 pieces of A4 posterboard, which will now be displayed at the Hillhead Library in Glasgow. These pieces of poster board can be purchased by visitors, in exchange for a donation to Sarcoma UK, in memory of Carey Lander, the group’s keyboard [ Read more ]

CAMERA OBSCURA is one of the key groups in Elefant Records’ history. After their first album, they joined our label with that marvelous “Underachievers Please Try Harder”, and later put out the equally incredible “Let's Get Out Of This Country”. Together, we climbed upward in a trajectory full of unforgettable moments.

That’s exactly why they couldn’t be left out of our collection of reissues for Elefant Record’s 25th anniversary. This collection began in 2014, when we celebrated 25 years as a record label, and so far we have released 16 of the 25 collections promised.

THE SCHOOL, LA CASA AZUL, TREMBLING BLUE STARS, LE MANS, JUNIPER MOON and LOS FLECHAZOS are just a few of the stars of these reissues. This time, we have decided to do a very specially release; both “Teenager” and “Keep It Clean” were singles taken from CAMERA OBSCURA’s second album, and they were only released in the CD-Single format. So, now they are going to be released on vinyl for the first time – two 7”, color-vinyl, 1000-copy numbered and limited-editions. Each single will include two A-sides (two songs taken from “Underachievers Please Try Harder”), accompanied by two songs from their CD-Single that haven’t been included on their albums. And as we said back then, it is impossible to get tired of listening to CAMERA OBSCURA; they have the magic necessary to combine the eternal and the imm [ Read more ]

YO, TAMBIÉN [ME TOO]: will compete in the “World Cinema Narrative" category at Sundance Film Festival [USA]

“Yo También (Me Too)” has been selected to participate in the United States at the prestigious Sundance International Film Festival, founded by Robert Redford in 1981. The festival will take place January 21st – 31st, 2010, in Park City, near Salt Lake City, the capital of Utah. According to the announcement, “Yo También (Me Too)”, written and directed by Álvaro Pastor and Antonio Naharro, has been chosen out of over thousands of movies from all over the world and will compete in the “World Cinema Narrative” category with thirteen other films from New Zealand, Iraq, Argentina, Columbia, Estonia, South Korea and Australia, among others. “Yo, Tambien” will begin its American trajectory on the grand scale. The Festival chooses 12 to 16 movies to compete in each of its four category: “US Documentary”, “US Dramatic”, “World Cinema Documentary” and “World Cinema Narrative". The Festival’s programmers chose, from among more than 9,800 movies and documentaries sent for the 2010 edition, “works that take risks and that tell a story in its entirety”. As a result, a total of 113 full-length features from 31 different countries and among them, “Yo Tambien (Me Too)”, a movie and a soundtrack that are already a [ Read more ]

It seems like the time is coming for Nick Garrie’s recognition. The author of one collectors’ most desired cursed vinyls, “The Nightmare of J.B. Stanislas” (an album that, by the way, Elefant will be re-releasing soon in a special format: double CD with an autobiographical book), has managed to regain all of the elegies that his previous disc deserved with the release of his new album, “49 Arlington Gardens”, which is being released by our company and which was recorded with artists like Duglas T Stewart (BMX BANDITS), Norman Blake (TEENAGE FANCLUB) and Ally Kerr. And the thing is, is that “49 Arlington Gardens” is being so incredibly received by the public and by the critics, thanks to an elegant and exciting conceptualization of pop and folk, to the point that Nick Garrie has been chosen to be the special guest star to open for the concert of our beloved CAMERA OBSCURA in the legendary Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Tracyanne Campbell’s band will be there on November 3rd in the London space playing songs from their magnificent new album, “My Maudlin Career”, and on this very special date they will be sharing the stage with Nick Garrie (who will open the show at 7:30 pm) and with the Manchester group MAGIC ARM.

“YO, TAMBIÉN” [ME TOO], triumphs in the San Sebastián Film Festival: The movie was awarded two Silver Conches, for best actor for Pablo Pineda and best actress for Lola Dueñas.

ELEFANT MUSIC SUPERVISION: artistic musical director.

The passion we feel for music at Elefant is something logical and evident, but from the start we have also been involved in and collaborated on artistic projects that go beyond the musical realm but that also need music to complete and fill out the work and make it more personal. A few years ago, our passion for the movies brought about the creation of “Elefant Music Supervision”, a project that has taken shape over time, with the goal of helping and collaborating on audiovisual projects of all kinds, offering musical supervision that would help the creators find the perfect music for their work. Shorts, documentaries, movies, commercial spots, television theme songs… we have found ourselves involved, sometimes directly, other times more indirectly, in a ton of national and international audiovisual projects that have used music from our company or projects that we have created with our artists’ exclusive pieces. International television series like “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Desperate H [ Read more ]

The movie was awarded two Silver Conches, for best actor for Pablo Pineda and best actress for Lola Dueñas.

“Yo, Tambien” has had its first public appearance and it has been a complete critical success. The San Sebastián Film Festival was a shotgun start for a movie that has all its cards pointing to it becoming one of the most interesting independent films of 2010. The film is Álvaro and Antonio’s directorial debut, it is Pablo Pineda’s acting debut, it is also Guille Milkyway’s soundtrack debut and the first important project for our recently created “Elefant Music Supervision”. All of this has only magnified our excitement and celebration about the two Silver Conch awards that the film received in the 57th edition of the San Sebastián Film Festival, for best actor for Pablo Pineda and best actress for Lola Dueñas, both of whom are amazing on the screen, magical in real life and now, thanks to the Festival, a “timeless couple”.

Music plays a very important role in the movie and, as we’ve already announced, Guille Milkyway (LA CASA AZUL) was in charge of the movie’s thematic music and the theme song – a seventies style rumba that is becoming a huge hit on the Internet. The video has been up on Youtube for just two weeks and thanks to word of mouth, the LA CASA AZUL webiste and blogs, the video has had more than 20,000 viewings in record time. But if you still haven& [ Read more ]

We already announced a few weeks ago that one of the most incredible festivals in the international panorama, the British Indietracks, had decided to pay homage to Elefant Records for their 20th anniversary, letting us organize the main stage in honor of the occasion. So, the line-up is finally, definitely confirmed, and pay attention because the two last-minute confirmations are spectacular: first, STEREO TOTAL, the French-German electro-pop duo and one of the most exciting bands you can see live; and second, the Sunday headliners are TEENAGE FANCLUB. The band of Norman Blake, author of such enduring hymns as “Sparky’s dream” and “The concept”, and of incomparable discs like “Thirteen”, “Grand Prix” and “Bandwagonesque”, will play us a set with their greatest hits that will serve as a culmination of one of the most amazing weeks we could have ever dreamed of. Groups that are also on the confirmed list are CAMERA OBSCURA, AU REVOIR SIMONE, LA CASA AZUL, COOPER, BMX BANDITS, LUCKY SOUL, THE FRANK AND WALTERS, Rose Ellinor Dougall, SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, COLA JET SET, THE SCHOOL, TENDER TRAP, FITNESS FOREVER, Nick Garrie, MODULAR, SUCRETTE and DJ POLAR. ELEFANT RECORDS TURNS 20 [1989-2009]

We’re going to England to celebrate our 20th anniversary at the Indietracks Festival, and the same weekend in Spain the ContemPopranea Festival will also be celebrating our birthday by paying homage to our label!

The Indyspensable festival in Madrid gave us the incredible gift of dedicating an entire day to Elefant this past June 12th, and other festivals like Fuengirola Pop Weekend or Lemon Pop will pay special homage to our label in their next editions of the festivals.

We want to thank everyone for having always been behind us! We feel really happy to have lasted all these years with our philosophy and way of understanding the music world, helping groups that excite us, who are on the sidelines of trends and the industry. None of this would have been possible without the label’s FANS, who have supported us all these years. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

THE INDIETRACKS FESTIVAL (UK) PAYS HOMAGE TO ELEFANT RECORDS FOR THEIR TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY BY GIVING US CONTROL OF THE MAIN STAGE! [JULY 24-25-26, Midland Railway, Butterley – Derbyshire, England]

The British festival Indietracks is paying homage to Elefant Records for our twentieth birthday, giving us control of the organization of the main stage as a present. Indietracks, whose third edition will take place July 24th, 25th and 26th in an old railway station in Butterley (Derbyshire county), has turned into a worldwide, can’t-miss event for fans of the best of indie pop, having brought such bands as Darren Hayman (HEFNER), THE WEEDING PRESENT, COMET GAIN and LOS CAMPESINOS! to previous editions. This year the leap in the festival’s importance and size is considerable, with a total of five stages and an incredible quantity of bands and DJs. That’s why Elefant has been so conscientious (and this is the first time an independent Spanish label organizes a stage at an international festival) to choose unforgettable names, many of which are still unrevealed surprises, including a headliner. Among a mix of bands from the label, friends, and suggestions that we have fallen irrevocably in love with and that have served as an inspiration for Elefant, twenty artists will play on the Elefant stage over the three days of the festival, and here we’re telling you in advance about the first confirmations: CAMERA OBSCURA, AU REVOIR SIMONE, BMX BANDITS, Rose Elinor Dougall, THE FRANK & WALTERS, FITNESS FOREVER, THE SCHOOL, Nick Garrie, LUCKY SOUL, SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, COOPER, LA CASA AZUL (in their only concert this year), COLA JET SET, SUCRETTE, TENDER T [ Read more ]

We’re finally opening our own YouTube channel! There was tons and tons of material to put up (and really, there’s still so much more), and Internet users can finally subscribe to the Elefant Records page on the most famous and visited video website in the world, which can be accessed from this web address: http://www.youtube.com/elefantrecords

For the channel’s official inauguration we’ve put up various new videos, some previously unreleased. You can enjoy the exclusive new video-clip of CORAZON’s “Nuevo Futuro” or SPEEDMARKET’s newest single, “No Drama”, which will be released in July and which we’re releasing the splendid new video-clip of in advance. There are a ton of LA CASA AZUL videos, plus interviews, live videos, reports… but the most exciting thing, for the moment, is definitely the video-clip of the English version of “La Revolution Sexual”. You can also find reports and interviews with COOPER that you most certainly haven’t seen, as well as three songs recorded live for the MySpace special, including the song “Mi Universo”, which is a completely new song not even included on Alex‘s latest work, “Aeropuerto”.

We have more than 100 video-clips from Elefant groups available (yes, all the videos from LA CASA AZUL, COOPER, CAMERA OBSCURA, NOSOTRÄSH, SINGLE, HEAVENLY, LOS FLECHAZOS, LUCKY SOUL, LA BIEN QUERIDA …) and a ton of extra pr [ Read more ]
