“New Adventures In Pop” has been one of the collections from Elefant Records that has brought us the most joy. Because of its philosophy of supporting new projects; because it has meant discovering gems that are now enjoying careers full of releases and great songs, and as collectors because many of the collection’s releases are objects of desire for many music lovers who long to get their hands on the sold-out editions. Included in this collection, we have seen groups like AXOLOTES MEXICANOS, PAPA TOPO, KOKOSHCA, BAND À PART, RENALDO & CLARA, TRONCO, Cristina Quesada, and many more, grow. Spanish groups, sure, but also French, Japanese, American, Swedish, Brazilian… And the latest releases include groups like PIPIOLAS, MARINITA PRECARIA and AMOR BUTANO who very soon everybody will be talking about.

That’s why we have decided to re-release some of these sought-after items, this time on 10” black vinyl, for those fans who felt like there was a gaping hole on their shelf. The chosen singles are “Perdona Mamá [ Read more ]

CARIÑO is turning out to be something totally unique. With just a handful of songs under their belt, they are already performing in practically all the festivals on the Spanish map (and there are a lot of them), and turning into a reference in music. Just one year after appearing on Elefant Records with “Pop Para La Bajona” and “Movidas”, they released a song on the fifth “Hits With Tits” compilation, along with other bands formed by women, like JÚLIA, LAS ROBERTAS, LANUCA and many more. That song, until now, could only be found on that vinyl compilation, but now it is going to be released in digital format. “La Bajona” has a nebulous sound, with touches of shoegaze and electronic arrangements, and it talks about a hungover Sunday in a toxic relationship. Delicious and melancholically addictive. This song was definitely the jumping off point for so many things that have come after. [ Read more ]

NEW ADVENTURES IN POP 044

This is what they call love at first sight. The instant we heard the two songs that made up what in the end was the introductory Single by this trio from Madrid, we knew right away that a fruitful relationship was just beginning and that we were going to be totally won over by their songs. And they haven’t taken long at all to give us new fruit. “Movidas” is a numbered, (500 copy) numbered-limited-edition, pink-vinyl 10” Mini-LP that, obviously, is being included on our “New Adventures In Pop” collection, dedicated to pop music’s new names and emerging groups. CARIÑO are freshness, ease, and unstoppablefun. Somewhere between LOS ROMEOS and HELEN LOVE, between PAPA TOPO at their most punk and AEROLÍNEAS FEDERALES. It’s impossible to hold back your smile.

Because their songs overflow with cynicism, with craziness, with the unexpected flourish, but at the same time with naturalness, with awakening, with the most innocent feelings. That’s why, after hearingMaríaPaola and Alicia’s songs, you have the feeling that what lies beneath is an instantaneous, urgent and immediate need to shout out the love they feel in a way that no one else has ever done before: simply and straightforwardly, with its whole brutal spirit and hazy feelings, with all its sweetness and bitterness. The pristine, adolescent honesty of “Canción De Pop De Amor&rdq [ Read more ]

To make the wait a bit lighter until “Movidas” (their anxiously awaited 10” pink vinyl debut Mini-LP, coming out in November) comes out, and after the pop appetite that “Canción De Pop De Amor” created, CARIÑO give us this great little gift. After how well-received their live version of C. Tangana’s “Llorando En La Limo” was, they have decided to give it to us in Digital Single format. As they themselves say: “There is so much debate between pop, trap and the limit between the two. What is “Llorando En La Limo”categoría The truth is that we don’t really know. For us it’s a little bit of everything, and we like this song, a lot. With our version, we have tried to build a bridge to new urban sounds that, to some extent, are ours too. We have slightly adapted the lyrics to our own experiences, meaning crying from feeling down, but not in limos – in friends’ houses, and maybe even on small scooters, because we don’t have a car, but we do have a lot of love. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do”.

This is a statement of intent, a juicy appetizer that is betting on breaking down boundaries and biases, on building bridges in music and on the ability to appropriate a song to bring it into totally unexpected territory, where the connotations and readings of the song, even of the emotions it gives off, change radically. Because there is no doubt that these are our CARI&N [ Read more ]

Paola Rivero plays the guitar, Alicia Ros plays the bass and sings and María Talaverano plays keyboards and sings. The three of them, with a drum machine, luminous lyrics, the help of their friend Martín Spangle and a little bit of magic, recorded their first two songs, “Canción De Pop De Amor” and “Momento Inadecuado”, in March 2018. And that’s how the pop craziness began and how it immediately landed at Elefant Records.

Two songs that we are presenting right now as an advance Digital Single of what will be their first release on Elefant, a 10” Mini-LP that will come out after the summer as part of our “New Adventures In Pop” collection. "Pop Para La Bajona" (pop for when you’re down) is the title the Single is being released under, and these three couldn’t bring us down if they tried. “Canción De Pop De Amor” is fresh, direct, honest, sincere, and with spot on touches of humor. It is a good definition of what a solid pop song should be, reminding us of the freshness and audacity of early PAPA TOPO. “Momento Inadecuado” confirms all of this. But what was a declaration before, here is spite. Cynicism takes a small step forward, but the sense of humor and direct, piercing lines continue to shine: “Y si ahora te arrepientes / Cómprate un par de loros / Aunque sólo te mereces / Qu [ Read more ]
