One of our favourite cars is the MINI: an urban, modern car with a gorgeous design. We loved the model from the 60’s, and we also love the renewed one. One of MINI’s sideprojects as a brand is the quarterly magazine MINIInternational, which is already on its 19th issue and on the verge to publish issue number 20.The magazine chooses a world city on each issue and, following the “think global, go local” motto, showcases its culture, people and pulsating life. We talk about them here because issue number 18 was dedicated to the city of Buenos Aires, and obviously they couldn’t help but including ENTRE Ríos among the chosen few to represent the southern capital. The magazine comes out with a CD, the first song of which is “Solo sonaba”, taken from “Idioma suave” by ENTRE Ríos.Other cities that have been explored by MINI’s official magazine are Barcelona, Montreal, Tokyo, Beirut, Estambul or, in the forthcoming issue, Hong Kong. Asian markets don’t mean just Japan and thereabouts, although it is well known that Elefant Records has had an important presence in the Nippon market from a long time ago. Juice Magazine (www.juiceonline.com) is the most important music/clubbing magazine in Singapore (now also established in Indonesia), with an estimated readership that reaches 1.2 million.

We don’t know if they’re aware of the "Elefant Juice" compilation we released many years ago, but the thing is that they have just released a special feature on Elefant Records on their Label Junkie section, where they recommend their readers about the best and most interesting pop record labels around the world.

This is a new prove of the passion and level of acknowledgement Elefant Records receives from our faithful following in South East Asia, a place where we have always felt at home. [ Read more ]

Japanese label Rambling Records, which released in Japan NIZA’s “Canciones de temporada”, is well known and respected by its excellent editions of soundtracks (of such geniuses as Ennio Morricone), as well as deluxe compilations in diverse styles as easy listening or international pop. In fact, Rambling has used plenty times many songs from the Elefant catalogue for its compilations.

Since last year, Elefant and Rambling have started a collaboration which reflects in a series of compilations based in songs taken from Elefant’s big catalogue, chosen by both Rambling Records and ourselves. In 2004 came out “Amapola”, a compilation of quiet, relaxed atmosphere, which was very well received in Japan. In july this year, making the most of our visit to Japan for the Elefant parties with NIZA and LA CASA AZUL, Rambling will release a new reference on this series of compilations: “Candy Box”, in a much poppier and melodic style.

The tracklists from both compilations are as follow:

CANDY BOX01. Si me alejaste [ENTRE RÍOS]02. I love my Jean [CAMERA OBSCURA]03. Ups to you [ANNA & THE SPECTORS]04. Parasol [NIZA]05. Una mañana [ME ENVENENO DE AZULES]06. Last year, Taiwanese label Avant Garden Records released several selected record from Elefant’s recent catalogue: “Satélite 99” by Ana D (in a similar edition to that released by Argentinian label Índice Virgen some years ago, featuring extra songs from the live album Grimsey Records released in the States), “Idioma suave” by ENTRE RÍOS, “Popemas” by NOSOTRÄSH, “Canciones de temporada” by NIZA, “Underachievers please try harder” by CAMERA OBSCURA…

The results of this collaboration has proved very satisfactory for all the parties involved, and it’s going ahead now with new releases from our catalogue in Taiwan. Next july, Avant Garden will release there “Cierra la puerta al salir” by NOSOTRÄSH (with the addition of the videoclip for the song “Dando vueltas”) and “Onda” by ENTRE RÍOS, also with a video and two extra tracks: “Si fuimos” (song taken from the “This is my country” compilation, formerly released on the Jabalina label) and “Por ti”, one of the first songs ever composed by the Buenos Aires trio, previously released on the first vinyl single the band did on Elefant.

The exchange between Elefant and Avant Garden isn’t over yet. Later on in time, our Taiwanese friends plan to release a compilation by NIZA, which will include songs from their singles, unreleased tracks, live takes [ Read more ]

Japanese label Passed Out Recordings will release by the end of June the compilation “This Planets Rolls”, which bears the appropriate subtitle of “International pop compilation: 13 artists, 8 countries, 4 languages”. Among those four languages there’s Spanish, and among those eight countries there’s Spain and Argentina, countries of origin for such Elefant Records artists as LA MONJA ENANA, LA CASA AZUL and ENTRE RÍOS. “Los días de Perky Pat”, “El sol no brillará nunca más” and “Salven las sirenas” are respectively the tracks included of each band in a compilation where they share space with people like Australia’s ARCHITECTURE IN HELSINKI, USA’s STARLIGHT MINTS or Japan’s ELEKIBASS, among other Italian, Swedish and German outfits. Elefant Records has always been very active and present in the international pop scene, and this is a good example of it. [ Read more ]

Apart from singing like an angel with her dream pop band ENTRE RÍOS, Argentinian singer Isol is a well known illustrator. Her drawings and paintings have been published in renowned publishing houses in Mexico, Spain and France, and her reputation keeps growing every day. On Tuesday May the 10th she presents an exhibition at the Panta Rhei Bookstore and Gallery in Madrid (on their new addres at Hernán Cortés, 7). The material she will exhibit there will consist mainly of originals from already published work, but we will also find some unpublished stuff. The exhibition consists of twelve canvas of 0,80mx1m, so we can have a wide idea of where she’s at as an illustrator at the moment. Some of the illustrations come from the books "Auggie Wren’s Christmas tale" (Editorial Lumen, with a text by novelist Paul Auster), "Aroma de galletas" (Editorial Media Vaca), "Mon corps et moi" (Editions du Rouergue), "Ser y parecer" (Editorial SM México), "Tic Tac" (Editions du Rouergue), "Secreto de familia", "El globo" (Editorial FCE, México), among others, plus unpublished drawings and other self-released projects. Most of the books will be on sale at the bookstore, and so will be some of the original drawings and silkscreened serigraphies.

Isol was born in 1972 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where she still lives. There she studied Fine Arts at Escuela Nacional Rogelio Yrurtia.

We are proud to announce the release of the split single shared by the three-piece from Buenos Aires and American band MY FAVORITE on the Intercontinental Pop Exchange series, released on Canadian label Endearing Records. This series features split singles between artists from different countries, yet sharing similar styles, as is the case with both ENTRE RÍOS and MY FAVORITE. Other artists who have previously been featured on this original series of records are SPEARMINT, THE LESLIES and ORWELL.

On the seventh issue of the collectible IPX series, ENTRE RÍOS come up with an unreleased track (“Seguirte”), an advance from the imminent new album, but in a different version (“Tantas veces”), several remixes (including one of their classic track “Idioma suave”) and the two videoclips they have filmed up to this moment. Along with them, New York City‚s MY FAVORITE show their unique marriage of new wave, synth-pop and anorak pop in several songs and also some additional videos. A sure temptation for the growing number of fans of the personal sound that creates the band formed by Isol, Gabriel and Sebastián. [ Read more ]

“Onda”, the new album by Argentinian trio ENTRE RÍOS, will be released on June by Elefant Records. Everything is ready for this new album, which will feature again an excellent cover artwork by Javier Aramburu, and will help consolidate the momentum for the band’s smart, delicate electronic pop.

But in the meantime, the band from Buenos Aires isn’t keeping still: while we write this text they’re getting ready to head for Mexico, where they will tour the country for the first time promoting the release of a compilation of their work on Zafra Records. And very soon they will see the release of the split single they will share with American band MY FAVORITE, as a part of the Intercontinental Pop Exchange series released by Endearing Records from Canada. This series of split singles featuring artists from different countries sharing a similar style has previously featured bands like SPEARMINT, THE LESLIES and ORWELL.

But this is only an example of the international recognition the band is achieving: on June, “Onda” will also be released in the USA, where Darla Records has already released their two previous albums to great success. Apart from Mexico and the USA (and Argentina, of course, where it’s Índice Virgen the label in charge), Taiwanese label Avant Garden Records recently released there “Idioma Suave”, the band’s first album. This week is published in Spain and Argentina the book titled "Curvas Peligrosas" (Editorial Lumen), a compilation featuring strips and illustrations by brilliant Argentinian cartoonist Maitena, very famous all over the world for her witty and hilarious look at the female world and the struggle with men´s impossibility to understand women. The book comes along with a ten song CD featuring some of her favourite songs, and among them we find tracks from the Elefant Records catalogue, by Ana D and ENTRE RÍOS.

Following her successful series, "Altered Women", this new series travels along different, more complex paths. Along with classic themes as the female neurosis, the couple, the children, one´s own body, new subjects come out in this book: social patterns, contemporary behaviours, fashion, consumerism. In her own words: "drawing is a lonely job. Sometimes I need silence, and sometimes I need music. The songs on this album were by my side during the last year and a half, whilst I was doing this book. I wanted to share them with you". Her vignettes are regularly published on such respected newspapers as El País in Spain, Le Figaro in France, La Stampa in Italy, Público in Portugal and La Nación in Argentina, among many others.

For the album, Maitena Burundarena (Buenos Aires, 1962) has cosen some of her most beloved songs from the recent times. Along with latin classics as Paquita la del Barrio, she has pl [ Read more ]

Popland and Cinemaspop are two stores (actually three, because Popland has two different premises) from the Malasaña area in Madrid, but they both provide half Spain and abroad with aesthetic pleasures. In Popland, an enormous variety of accessories, garnishing, furniture, records and pop memorabilia on the whole can be found, whereas in Cinemaspop, pop culture comes on the top of movie going and cinema love. Two colouristic concepts with a passionate interest for pop’s different sides, that were to meet Elefant Records’ music.

Both stores have just released the album "Popland 25 hit parade", including that number of successful songs from Elefant Records catalogue: COOPER, LA CASA AZUL, CAMERA OBSCURA, BERLANGA, LE MANS, HEAVENLY or JUNIPER MOON, among others, playing the perfect soundtrack to the lush aesthetic of this retro consumption’s paradise.

We´re happy to bring you “Momentos perdidos” a collection of rarities, b-sides, wrong hits and a bunch of previously unreleased gifts. Lovely souvenirs from such different harbours as Japan, Germany, United States, France, England and, of course, Spain.

“Momentos perdidos” shouldn´t be seen as the usual compilation, nor a balance of the most representative stuff from the last years: we only expect to bring you a collection of delightful songs that, due to different reasons, were hidden in a record or never came to be published.
