REISSUE 2023

Some albums are so important in the history of a record label that their identities become intertwined, and in the case of Elefant, we cannot forget about FAMILY’s debut album. Pop fans fell in love with the album from the very first minute, with its precious lyrics and touching melodies which have transcended eras and borne deep into the ears and minds of various generations, and which has become even more legendary as time has passed. This past April was the thirtieth anniversary of the recording of “Un Soplo En El Corazón”, and to celebrate this we are going to rerelease it on vinyl for all those fans who are still trying to get their hands on a copy. “Un Soplo En El Corazón” has continued to soften the hearts of many in recent years and has been used on the soundtracks of movies and TV shows like “Requirements To Be A Normal Person”, “Through My Window”, “Oreina”, “Los Pequeños Amores”, “Cuéntame” and “In Love All Over Again”.

Elefant Records continues to be the protagonist of the soundtracks of many of the new releases on video-streaming platforms. And this time in style. “In Love All Over Again” is the new series by Carlos Montero, creator of series such as “Élite” (which has more than 30 Elefant songs on its soundtrack), “The Mess You Leave Behind” (with 11 Elefant songs in its only season) or “Física Y Química”.

The first season of “In Love All Over Again” has eight episodes and has been released on Netflix last February 14th with the participation of Georgina Amorós, Franco Masini, Carlos González, Guillermo Toledo, Silvia Abril and many more actors and actresses that complete an incredible cast, and the direction of, among others, Carlota Pereda (currently on the front page for the award-winning “Piggy”) or Mateo Gil (“Nobody Knows Anybody”, “Blackthorn”, “The Minions of Midas”). On “In Love All Over Again” we can listen to up to 19 songs that have been released on our label, making up a soundtrack that features artists such as FAMILY, LA CASA AZUL, LA BIEN QUERIDA, JUNIPER MOON, LA MONJA ENANA, NOSOTRÄSH, LES TRÈS BIEN ENSEMBLE, COOPER and many more. The perfect musical backdrop for a funny, gentle and down-to-earth romantic comedy, with two protagonists who display superb chemistry. A joy to see and hear.

RECUERDOS QUE OLVIDÉ 006

FAMILY is an immense and mysterious group. “Un Soplo En El Corazón” was love at first listen for so many people, and it awakened our desire to know more about its stars. But only a lucky few of us could talk about their history in EL JOVEN LAGARTO and a prior demo to the album that gave them a definitive place and what would soon be the group’s only album. It’s considered by the media and by fans to be one of the most important and influential allbums in the history of pop music in Spain. We know that many of you have been anxiously awaiting this – so have we – and the time has finally arrived: Elefant Records is going to release FAMILY’s “silver” demo. It will be a 12” vinyl called “Casete”. Because that’s what this album is, a recording that Aramburu and Gametxogoikoetxea made – alone and on cassette – on a four track cassette reel. Dated 1991, it is a faithful reflection of what they were, without buffers, without the refinement that comes from production, with the limitations of their amateurism and the force of their conviction. “Casete” is FAMILY in all its intimacy. And right  along with that scarce-resource spirit is their design, which plays with the original cassette’s spareness without adding after the fact anything that could contaminate its memory. A good part of the value [ Read more ]

There are some dates you can never forget. At Elefant, we’ll never forget the day “Un Soplo En El Corazón” came out. The album received critical and popular acclaim, and was labeled as one of the best albums in the history of Spanish pop. It became a legend, especially with that shroud of mystery that Javier Aramburu (also one of the most important album cover designers in the country) and Iñaki Gametxogoikoetxea created by barely giving any interviews, not letting themselves be photographed, not doing any live shows. So, the twentieth anniversary of an album that was and is so special to us is cause for celebration here at Elefant Records, and we’re celebrating with a limited-edition vinyl re-release, with 1000 numbered copies.

This is a really special release that is available again (after many years of being completely out-of-print) in a format full of romanticism, so that we can enjoy such truly marvelous songs in such a special way and, while we’re at it, pay homage to the memory of songs that will forever be a part of the history of Spanish pop music. There is so much proof of the album’s legacy, like that RockDeLux magazine issue that names it album of the year, album of the decade, and placed it on the list of the top 20 national albums of the 20th century. AB Redacción also called it the best album of the decade, and declared “Nadadora” the second best song of the 90s. We could go on like thi [ Read more ]

Besides having written –along with Iñaki Gametxogoikoetxea– one of the best and most moving albums in all-time Spanish pop music (the legendary cult of the recently re-released “Un soplo en el corazón”, by his band FAMILY), Javier Aramburu is one of the best illustrators and designers in Spain. Not only because of his precious designs for the cover artwork of some assorted records (he’s done all the art for the whole discography by SINGLE and LE MANS, among others), but also for his work in many other sides of the image and illustration job.Spanish publishers Editorial SM have just published the book “Abezoo”, an imaginative abecedary of animals, with a double page to illustrate each letter and a short poem (by Carlos Reviejo) about an animal whose name starts by or contains said letter. Aramburu has illustrated its seventy-two pages. The letter E, of course, is dedicated to the Elephant. So, if you don’t know what to buy as a present for anyone who’s older than three (and younger than ninety-three!), do not hesitate: Aramburu’s art is all-ages.

Japanese label Rambling Records, which released in Japan NIZA’s “Canciones de temporada”, is well known and respected by its excellent editions of soundtracks (of such geniuses as Ennio Morricone), as well as deluxe compilations in diverse styles as easy listening or international pop. In fact, Rambling has used plenty times many songs from the Elefant catalogue for its compilations.

Since last year, Elefant and Rambling have started a collaboration which reflects in a series of compilations based in songs taken from Elefant’s big catalogue, chosen by both Rambling Records and ourselves. In 2004 came out “Amapola”, a compilation of quiet, relaxed atmosphere, which was very well received in Japan. In july this year, making the most of our visit to Japan for the Elefant parties with NIZA and LA CASA AZUL, Rambling will release a new reference on this series of compilations: “Candy Box”, in a much poppier and melodic style.

The tracklists from both compilations are as follow:

CANDY BOX01. Si me alejaste [ENTRE RÍOS]02. I love my Jean [CAMERA OBSCURA]03. Ups to you [ANNA & THE SPECTORS]04. Parasol [NIZA]05. Una mañana [ME ENVENENO DE AZULES]06. Popland and Cinemaspop are two stores (actually three, because Popland has two different premises) from the Malasaña area in Madrid, but they both provide half Spain and abroad with aesthetic pleasures. In Popland, an enormous variety of accessories, garnishing, furniture, records and pop memorabilia on the whole can be found, whereas in Cinemaspop, pop culture comes on the top of movie going and cinema love. Two colouristic concepts with a passionate interest for pop’s different sides, that were to meet Elefant Records’ music.

Both stores have just released the album "Popland 25 hit parade", including that number of successful songs from Elefant Records catalogue: COOPER, LA CASA AZUL, CAMERA OBSCURA, BERLANGA, LE MANS, HEAVENLY or JUNIPER MOON, among others, playing the perfect soundtrack to the lush aesthetic of this retro consumption’s paradise.

Coinciding with the tenth anniversary of its first release, we reissue one of the key albums in Elefant history. FAMILY is already a classic name in all-time Spanish pop history. They reached that status with only an album, a record which is truly perfect from beginning to end: "Un soplo en el corazón". A real masterpiece, which didn't need big promotion campaigns or live tours: in fact, FAMILY rarely played live, had their pictures taken or held an interview. By doing this they preserved all the mystery and the emotion that makes "Un soplo en el corazón" something really special and unique.

FAMILY's created out of a band called LA INSIDIA, a band from San Sebastián (Basque Country, hometown of bands like LE MANS or LA BUENA VIDA). In LA INSIDIA we already find Javier and Iñaki, and they act from 1983 to 1988 without leaving any recording. In 1989 Javier and Iñaki form a new band: EL JOVEN LAGARTO. They record a demotape in which we can find FAMILY style perfectly formed. In fact, most of the songs in this demotape would end up included in "Un soplo en el corazón".

First FAMILY's official recording is released in 1992: it's a cover version of an eighties Spanish band (DECIMA VICTIMA) made with a very popular Spanish band, FANGORIA, which would become big FAMILY champions.

"Un soplo en el corazón" is finally released in 1993, and it's inmediately received by specialized [ Read more ]
