TRACKLIST: 01 Tardes De Sol  02 Esto No Es Serie

We still feel like time has been standing still since discovering the first eponymous Mini-LP by FRED FREDBURGUER. And “Tardes De Sol” is going to be the last Digital Single taken from that release. It is a luminous song (the intention is clear with the title), probably the song with the purest pop spirit on the release: clear and universal. Throw in a handful of pretty chords, a precious melody, charming lyrics, a few choruses, and those guitars that we like so much. We don’t need anything more. Or anything less. In the video that accompanies the release, directed by Daniel Cuenca, we can see our protagonists enjoying an afternoon in the park, among picnics, bicycles, and music instruments. And to soften that “see you soon”, there is a previously unreleased track. Specifically, it is the theme song for the podcast “Esto No Es Serie”, dedicated to television series, which Alba, the singer of our beloved FRED FREDBURGUER, (along with her podcast mates Andy and Leti), participates in. Trademark high voltage punk-rock. [ Read more ]

TRACKLIST: 01 15 Minutos  02 La Merienda  03 Acústica

The songs from FRED FREDBURGUER’s eponymous Mini-LP are still playing in our heads, and we already have a new digital release with new songs. The star here is a song taken from said Mini-LP; “15 Minutos” is the most special song on the album, with a more complex structure but maintaining its pop spirit 100%, and that serves as the perfect tool to talk about high school romances. The song comes with a refreshing video directed by Daniel Cuenca (LA CASA AZUL, Soleá Morente, Cristina Quesada, RUSH WEEK, THE PERFECT KISS…) where we can see the group playing the song, on the one hand, and then on the other, acting out the lyrics in a North American fifties-style hamburger joint, like something from “American Graffiti”. The esthetic is the perfect complement to the concept and the group’s sound, and it ends with a huge party with lots of popcorn.

What’s more is that this single includes two previously unreleased songs. There is “La Merienda”, the song that is used as the theme song for the fantastic radio program directed by Agustín Fuentes on Canal Extremadura, who is also the director of the inimitable Contempopránea Festival. And there is also “Acústica”, a very special cover of SIBYL VANE, from their “Mermelada De Tomate”. Curiously, the song is not included on the album’s tracklist, b [ Read more ]

“New Adventures In Pop” collection [Issue 047]

A few weeks ago, we introduced you to one of the new groups that has joined the Elefant family, FRED FREDBURGUER, that well-known character from the cartoon show, “The Grim Adventures Of Billy & Mandy”. So, the moment has arrived for them to release something in our collection focused on promising newcomers, “New Adventures In Pop”: their first Mini-LP, a 10” blue vinyl with a 500-copy, numbered, limited edition. As we could see on the two advance songs included on the Digital Single we were already able to listen to, we are looking at a refreshing exercise in punk-pop – carefree, unbiased and hyper-melodic.

Fernando, Alba, Raúl and Elena debut in physical format with songs that are a hymn to youth, with echoes of THE SHOP ASSISTANTS, LOS FRESONES REBELDES, HEAVENLY and THE ROSEHIPS, with a tribute to Friends (Colegas). They are exercises in fast-paced pop with great choruses and summery evocations (“Tardes De Sol”, “Ei, Uriel”) that would fit like a glove in the repertoire of TIGER TRAP or VIVIAN GIRLS; skilled attitude and cheekiness (“Cecilio G”, “Diana (No Quiere Escuchar Pop)”) that remind us of the best TCR… And then there are t [ Read more ]

After that first Digital Single, “Colegas”, that we announced a few weeks ago, FRED FREDBURGUER is back with a Christmas gift for us. It is a song full of the idea of going back home for Christmas, with the melancholy and excesses associated with these controversial dates. “No Hay Muchos Regalos (Pero A Mí Me Da Igual)” is a punk-pop demonstration with touches of noise – fresh, immediate and unbiased. It is the perfect thing to lighten and liven up the most insolent nights of these holidays. [ Read more ]

Here at Elefant, we continue to be committed to new values in pop music with our “New Adventures In Pop” collection, which has released groups that are now a consolidated part of the musical reality, like PAPA TOPO, CARIÑO, KOKOSHCA, AXOLOTES MEXICANOS, Lia Pamina, BAND À PART and TRONCO, among many others. This time, we bring you FRED FREDBURGUER, a band that brings a fun, fresh punk-pop offer to the table. They are somewhere between JUNIPER MOON, TCR and COLA JET SET, with a dash of the C86-style indie of groups like THE SHOP ASSISTANTS, THE HAYWAINS, THE ROSEHIPS and THE FLATMATES, and that American touch of groups like TIGER TRAP, ALVVAYS, THE AISLERS SET, VIVIAN GIRLS and ILLUMINATI HOTTIES. Their name pays tribute to the well-known cartoon character from “The Grim Adventures Of Billy & Mandy”.

The initial line-up of the group was Fernando (drums) and Alba (guitar); in the summer of 2016 Olaya (AXOLOTES MEXICANOS) joined on bass and Miguel, a friend, on guitar. The line-up did not last very long, but in 2018, they picked things up again, adding Fernando’s brother, Raúl and his partner, Elena, to the line-up, on bass and drums, respectively. Around that time, they recorded “Colegas” for the first time. In 2019, the final push came: Fernando and Alba plan their wedding for September and what better idea for a souvenir for their guests than a CDR with their s [ Read more ]
