Song: Los Chicos Hoy Saltarán A La Pista (LA CASA AZUL)

It took many months of work but we can finally announce, with much joy and satisfaction, the release of “L-FUN 45 (Summer of love)”, the first independent musical videogame for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, a fun application that will get all of the label’s fans excited. The videogame is full of the Elefant universe and our groups. It was created and developed by Dolores Entertainment, a young and promising company that develops mobile phone applications and videogames, and that shares Elefant’s spirit of independent work and passion for music. Dolores Entertainment, who recently celebrated their first anniversary as a company, started their voyage with more classic-styled games with a more direct dynamic, like “Vectron” or “Spanish Chiringuito”. Now, they are official providers for TV3 and they are working on some different, very interesting projects that we’ll be hearing about soon, but L-FUN 45 is their most ambitious project so far.

L-FUN 45 is an interactive musical, a game where the music isn’t just an excuse to smash buttons, but instead it tells us a love story. The love story begins with a break-up, and includes friendship and summertime adventures. The game, which we are launching today, is the first part of a four-part series, since there were so many ideas at the beginning of the project, plus all of the [ Read more ]

Every time we receive new Giorgio Tuma songs at the Elefant Records office, we lose ourselves in elegies commenting on the infinite genius of this Italian songwriter. Capable of bringing tropicalia to Henry Mancini’s melodies, heir to the melodic deposits of his country’s greats like Gino Paoli, and fantastic dreamer of space voyages in the company of Brian Wilson, Giorgio Tuma’smusic is the perfect soundtrack for paradise. We can’t imagine any better music to accompany moments of ecstatic and infinite pleasure.

“In The Morning We'll Meet” was a necessary giant step toward world recognition for such an artist, as the prestigious magazine Mojo recently emphasized, when they gave his album four stars, and not without first inviting their readers to “succumb to the climax you can’t escape from, like those great seduction scenes”. And like a great seductor, Giorgio Tuma reveals his weapons one by one, always leaving us wanting more.

The latest is the digital single, “Innocenza Cetra”, a sublime love song taken from the previously mentioned album, and seems like a Mediterranean ode written under a blanket of stars, lulled by the swollen whispers of violins. “Montegrappa”, a previously unreleased track, is a clear demonstration of the terrain that Tuma is most comfortable in, with a jazz-pop full of delicate arrangements, winds that explode among synthesizers which make us lose our sense of gravity, a [ Read more ]

Yes, “In the morning we'll meet” is the most complicated and ambitious album that Giorgio Tuma has come across. When you deal with the musical fantasy that is hiding behind his notes, it is impossible not to evoke that colossal work of Brian Wilson’s, “Smile. Today, that figure of the song-writer as a goldsmith who pampers his melodies and arrangements with the meticulousness of a watch-maker needs to be reclaimed and dignified, and figures like Giorgio Tuma are indispensible in that process.

An album that, like all good trips, has come into being all around the world (countries like Canada, Norway, The U.S…. have seen these songs grow), to ultimately point straight towards home as the final destination. As the author himself admits, “In the morning we’ll meet” is an album of folk-jazz sung in English, but watered with typically Italian melodies, on which childhood and memories work as an emotional motor. And because we couldn’t expect anything less, the figures of the great Italian composers appear on the scene: Alessandro Cicognini, Nino Rota, Piero Piccioni, Piero Umiliani, Ennio Morricone, and singers like Luigi Tenco, Piero Ciampi and Lucio Batisti stop by to keep the references we already know like Stan Getz, Vinicius de Moraes, Brian Wilson himself, Chet Baker, Maurice Ravel and Nick Drake company.

But beware: don’t confuse the ambition of a project with the density and complicatedness of its sound. Nothi [ Read more ]

YO, TAMBIÉN [ME TOO]: will compete in the “World Cinema Narrative" category at Sundance Film Festival [USA]

“Yo También (Me Too)” has been selected to participate in the United States at the prestigious Sundance International Film Festival, founded by Robert Redford in 1981. The festival will take place January 21st – 31st, 2010, in Park City, near Salt Lake City, the capital of Utah. According to the announcement, “Yo También (Me Too)”, written and directed by Álvaro Pastor and Antonio Naharro, has been chosen out of over thousands of movies from all over the world and will compete in the “World Cinema Narrative” category with thirteen other films from New Zealand, Iraq, Argentina, Columbia, Estonia, South Korea and Australia, among others. “Yo, Tambien” will begin its American trajectory on the grand scale. The Festival chooses 12 to 16 movies to compete in each of its four category: “US Documentary”, “US Dramatic”, “World Cinema Documentary” and “World Cinema Narrative". The Festival’s programmers chose, from among more than 9,800 movies and documentaries sent for the 2010 edition, “works that take risks and that tell a story in its entirety”. As a result, a total of 113 full-length features from 31 different countries and among them, “Yo Tambien (Me Too)”, a movie and a soundtrack that are already a [ Read more ]

ELEFANT MUSIC SUPERVISION: artistic musical director.

The passion we feel for music at Elefant is something logical and evident, but from the start we have also been involved in and collaborated on artistic projects that go beyond the musical realm but that also need music to complete and fill out the work and make it more personal. A few years ago, our passion for the movies brought about the creation of “Elefant Music Supervision”, a project that has taken shape over time, with the goal of helping and collaborating on audiovisual projects of all kinds, offering musical supervision that would help the creators find the perfect music for their work. Shorts, documentaries, movies, commercial spots, television theme songs… we have found ourselves involved, sometimes directly, other times more indirectly, in a ton of national and international audiovisual projects that have used music from our company or projects that we have created with our artists’ exclusive pieces. International television series like “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Desperate H [ Read more ]

So much time gazing out over the Atlantic, observing Salvador de Bahia from the other side of the ocean, when it turns out that the most exotic sun shines on this side of the Mediterranean, in Italy, where Giorgio Tuma has just released his second, marvelous album, “My Vocalese Fun Fair”.

Starting with fibers as solid as the delicacy of Caetano Veloso at his most Bahian, the elegance of Burt Bacharach, the jazzy approximations of Antonio Carlos Jobim, the circus-like psychedelia of the BEATLES at their highest, the Californian soft pop and a touch of sweet soul in the style of Terry Callier or Marvin Gaye, Giorgio Tuma builds a source of imagination with “My Vocalese Fun Fair” that makes his inseparable band mates, OS TUMANTES (as a tribute to the Brazilian psychedelic pop group OS TUMANTES), reach their highest level. This album is able to bring together the different influences of all these artists and fit them together with their own personality. Sunny melodies, bright arrangements, a production with echoes of the sixties, deep Brazilian influences, and above all, a highly inspired artist with clear colorful inclinations, as the album cover, designed by the internationally renowned artist, Davide Zucco, perfectly portrays. And the lysergic aspect, the one required by music with so many tonalities, the one which painted the submarine yellow, is found in lyrics that are authentic space voyages, a spirit that is perfectly defined in the lyrics of &ld [ Read more ]
