Elefant Records continues to be a source of sound material for filmmakers, and the latest proof is “La Amiga De Mi Amiga”, the debut film of Zaida Carmona (yes, the one who sang “La Llamada” with PAPA TOPO in Marc Ferrer‘s film “La Maldita Primavera”), which celebrated its presence on 1 February at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, as part of the Bright Future section. Two days later, on 3 February, and coinciding with the premiere in commercial cinemas in Spain, we are releasing the soundtrack just with the Elefant songs that appear in the movie, which in this case features SOFT REGIME, AIKO EL GRUPO, LISASINSON, JULIE ET JOE, BAND À PART, Giorgio Tuma, NOS MIRAN and FITNESS FOREVER. What a great selection! And as a gift we include in our edition the original version of “Lady Dilema” by Carlos Berlanga, which in the film is covered by Aroa Ay, from SHEGO. The film also features songs by MALAMUTE, MASONIERÍA (the solo project of Sonia, from PAPA TOPO), Rocío Saiz and CHRISTINA Y LOS SUBTERRÁNEOS. In fact, Christina Rosenvinge herself makes a cameo in the film.

“La Amiga De Mi Amiga” is a generational story, as Zaida herself says: “a five-way lesbian comedy of entanglement”, a story about women who love a lot, but love badly. A project that arises from the need to consolidate and reaffirm positive queer and/or feminist references, filmed in eleven days, wit [ Read more ]

This coming October 20th, the film festival Mostra de Valencia will open with the Valencian film “El Que Sabem”, produced by Pegatum Transmedia and directed by Jordi Núñez, author of the shorts “Píxeles” (with more than 11 million views on streaming), “Amor De Dios” and “Cachitos”. It is a daring generational portrait about a story of first love, acceptance, and forgiveness, dressed up as a hymn to friendship, desire and the youth that slips through our hands. It is a movie in which, according to the people who made it, “music plays a fundamental role in building emotions and feelings, whether it’s to intensify them or to fill them with irony”. A large part of the movie’s soundtrack consists of songs by groups from Elefant Records.

From the sticky sweet, eighties style techno-pop of JULIE ET JOE, to the fun and rumba-style cheekiness that Soleá Morente brings, the hazy myste [ Read more ]

Joe Moore is like Elefant’s Brill Building. But the whole building in just one person. We have seen him move through chamber pop, sixties pop, techno-pop, French pop, lounge… So, we gave him a few albums by ELLI ET JACNO, LIO, MIKADO, MATHÉMATIQUES MODERNES, BRAQUE and above all, Jacno’s first album(who this album is dedicated to), and now here we are with a 10” in our hands. Eight songs stupendously sung by Julie Big (who was the voice of LE SUPERHOMARD on the album “Meadow Lane Park” and the other singles released by Elefant) that are a paragon of fun, fantasy, freshness and an authentic invitation to never leave the dance floor. This project came about unexpectedly, and has given us a handful of catchy, exciting songs, using codes that, unfortunately, are not often seen in music these days.

Ultra-danceable techno-pop super hits, full of playful, dance-y synthesizers, like “Marelle” itself or like that “Single (Game Over)” that takes us back to a naïve NEW ORDER or the DEPECHE MODE of “Dreaming Of Me”, but with those totally bubblegum spirit choruses. Instrumentals like “Polygone” and “La Séquence” that irreparably bring to mind Jacno and KRAFTWERK at their most [ Read more ]

TRACKLIST: 01 Le Midi

Joe Moore is having his moment. He is on fire. In a state of grace. He has countless projects, and on them, he plays with the most diverse musical styles and codes with an uncommon solvency. In addition to Lia Pamina, Cristina Quesada, Maddie Mae, THE PERFECT KISS, and, of course, THE YEARNING, we now have JULIE ET JOE. This is a very special project that the British producer developed with the voice of Julie Big, the singer from LE SUPERHOMARD, as a tribute to the techno-pop music that was made in France at the beginning of the eighties: ELLI & JACNO, LIO, MIKADO, MATHÉMATIQUES MODERNES, BRAQUE and all those singers that made playful melodies that were highly danceable and tremendously fun.

“Le Midi” is an advance from the 10” vinyl Mini-LP that they will release very soon, which will be called “Marelle”. It is a song that boldly puts all its cards on the table (this is all our special tribute to Jacno) and that shows Moore’s ability in such a personal way, that is respectful and full of inspiration. “Le Midi” is joy, freshness, and also comes with an absolutely marvelous video, directed by Pooley (Woom Studio), who does what he knows best: play with colors, with real images, with textures and with audiovisual collage. Here, he gives us a delicious journey to our protagonists’ countryside, and a marvelous nap in a hammock under the summer sun. Exquisite.

By the way, Julie Big also [ Read more ]
