“No llores por mí si me pierdo en el mar…” (Don’t cry for me if I get lost at sea…) is the first line of “Éxodo”, the song with which LINDA GUILALA are participating in the Ukelele Kit Project, an artistic project organized by Matilde Rodríguez of O Gato Cósmico. The project mixes a visual artist with a music group and a director, all of whom are Galician or have a relationship with Galician culture, in order to promote a ukulele. The idea consists of the visual artist decorating the ukulele, the music group recording a song with it, and then the director making an audiovisual document of the whole process.

The thing is, that line came about the day that Eva and Iván were chatting about this project with Xoan Escudero (the director of the video), and the first thing that came to his mind were Soviet cosmonauts, about to take off for outer-space without any certainty of whether they would return safely or whether they would stay up there forever. So, Marcos Vigo was in charge of creating the ukulele that appears in that video, and Bruno, Eva and Iván gave shape to a conglomerate of noise and emotion in a shoegazey style, full of energy, with the previously mentioned ukulele as the only string instrument. “Éxodo” is a trademark song, in which the ukulele plays a very different role than what could be expected of its more common uses, thanks to experimentation with dist [ Read more ]

LINDA GUILALA are in a state of grace. We have already mentioned the intense production activity that Iván and Eva have been doing with groups like AXOLOTES MEXICANOS, WHEN NALDA BECAME PUNK and LOS BONSAIS, but the release of “Xeristar” made it clear that we

were dealing with a group at the top of their game and that, with the incorporation of Bruno Mosquera on guitar, they had gained even more intensity and electricity (if that’s even possible). That’s why we want to make the most of this fantastic moment and put out a digital single with two previously unreleased songs.

The single starts off with one of the songs taken from “Xeristar”, “Verano”, which tells one of those stories that it is impossible not to fall for, with echoes of LOS PLANETAS, the electric strength of MY BLOODY VALENTINE, and the urgent pop of punk groups like TIGER TRAP. It is perfectly suited to waking our minds up these summer vacations. “Jaime, Iván y Marta”, the first of the previously unreleased tracks, is even more urgent, like an aggressive version of AUTOMATICS bathed in choruses by YO LA TENGO with an especially angry Ira Kaplan between the irreverent waves of feedback, paying a particular homage to Lou Reed. “Abisal” starts off with an instrumentation that is an authentic wall of electricity, impassable, as strong as an ocean that marks the separation between two worlds – the world of noise and th [ Read more ]

Axolotes Mexicanos (Spain)

This Asturian trio, signed to the legendary Elefant Records, career from crazy punk to the most playful, DIY electro-pop with energy, muscle, strength and ferocity.  Olaya, Stephen and Juan evoke the wildest and most fun moments of the indie explosion that happened in the early 80s in Spain. The band’s first  release, “Infectados”, is Helen Love  and Pegamoides pogo-dancing in celebration of one of the group’s biggest passions – zombies!

Linda Guilala (Spain)

A fter the split of Juniper Moon at the end of 2005, Iván (former drummer and founder of the band) and Eva (keyboards) started their new adventure under the name of Linda Guilala. Their latest release, ‘Xeristar’ (Elefant Records) contains six intense, electrifying compositions that go from furious to narcotic, somewhere between Los Planetas, Ride, Clinic, My Bloody Valentine and Spiritualized at their spaciest and most ultrasonic.

The Yearning

Founded by songwriter/producer Joe Moore and signed to the legendary Elefant Records, the band’s songs ache of a bygone innocence and simplicity, as influenced by Phil Spector’s girl groups, Brian Wilson’s ‘Pet Sounds’ and Irving Berlin’s classic songwriting. Their debut [ Read more ]

Digital single and video for "Lo Siento Mucho": 24 February 2014

Release date "Xeristar" Mini LP 10": 17 March 2014

There is no room for doubt that there is going to be a before and an after “Xeristar” in LINDA GUILALA’s career. Maybe it’s the time they’ve taken since their last EP, during which they’ve been producing groups like AXOLOTES MEXICANOS, WHEN NALDA BECAME PUNK and LOS BONSÁIS, among others, in their Kaiju studios. They’ve also been accompanying Marco Maril as the live band for APENINO. Maybe it’s the definitive incorporation of Bruno Mosquera as a guitarist in the band, who has brought that wall of sound that Ivan and Eva were looking for. But the thing is that we are without a doubt looking at their best collection of songs – six intense, electrifying compositions that go from furious to narcotic, somewhere between LOS PLANETAS, RIDE, CLINIC, MY BLOODY VALENTINE, and SPIRITUALIZED at their spaciest and most ultrasonic.

In fact, their “Medication” brings us the title of this limited-edition, transparent-vinyl 10” mini-LP. It’s a reference to an antidepressant medication, an evident symbolism that highlights their capacity for energy. And as proof: “Chicas Guapas (Que Van A Trabajar En Moto)” is a pure crack of a whip, with a super-catchy chorus, the ferocity of a well-armed A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS, and program [ Read more ]

As many of you already know, the first Saturday of every month is the day we celebrate Elefant Club in Madrid’s legendary bar, Siroco, located on 3 San Dimas Street. Siroco has been totally remodelled, to better suit their fantastic concerts and unforgettable DJ sessions, which are becoming more and more popular. Groups like THE SCHOOL, BAND À PART, FITNESS FOREVER, PAPA TOPO, LOS BONSÁIS, SINGLE, CORAZÓN, GUATAFÁN, CAPITÁN SUNRISE and DJs like Guille Milkyway, Pepito Prieto, Bob Stanley, and our very own Luis Elefant have already made stops on Siroco’s stage, making every single person in the audience twist and shout, in events that are already basically obligatory for anyone who loves the best pop. Nights like these get written indelibly in one’s memory.

We now have new, confirmed dates for the upcoming months. To start, on March 3rd we have the “Mad Madrid 5×25” party, where 5 groups from the capital city will play for 25 minutes each, with a range of groups from established ones that have already put out albums, like BLA, to Belén and Luis from L-KAN’s parallel project, to others that will soon form part of our “New Adventures in Pop” collection – as is the case with TEACHER TEACHER (a super new band formed by María (CHARADES), Cristina (WILD HONEY) y Guille (WILD HONEY, THE MITTENS) – and including some who already form a part of that collectio [ Read more ]

Cola Jet Set "Lesson One: Listen & Repeat"

Single 7"

Includes a free digital MP3 download [320 kbps]

Design and illustration by Ruth Valencia

COLA JET SET is one of Elefant label’s national groups that are creating the greatest legion of fans in the Anglo-Saxon public, as anyone could see in their recent shows in the UK. That’s why, as a special present to their English fans, they are releasing a single with some of their most well-known songs translated into English, as well as a few covers of foreign groups. The band from Barcelona with a constantly growing roster of band members, which currently includes Ana (voice), Felipe (guitars), Ester and Ruth (backing vocals), Dani (bass), Alicia (voice and guitar), Joan (drums) and Manel (keyboards), gives a different nuance to their music with English phonemes. We can rediscover “En Esta Pista Ya No Se Puede Bailar” under the new title, “The Land Where We Can Dance Forever”. They maintain their highly danceable disco-pop spirit and their marvellous arrangements, somewhere between THE JACKSON 5 and THE SHANGRILA’S. And there’s also “El Sueño De Mi Vida”, this time “The Dream of My Life”, which, in this format, could be considered one of the hits from THE SCHOOL’s discography or one of THE PIPETTES’ first singles.

But there are also huge new things for the group’s followers, because this single inclu [ Read more ]

The times mark the fashions, and Elefant Records is releasing not one but two singles exclusively in digital format. The chosen groups are COLA JET SET and LINDA GUILALA, and both have selected previously unreleased material from recording sessions from their respective albums to make these exclusive releases, that come out this coming April 26th on the world’s major digital platforms, iTunes ( HYPERLINK http://www.itunes.com), e-music ( HYPERLINK http://www.emusic.com) and 7 digital ( HYPERLINK http://www.7digital.com) among many others.

“Suena el Teléfono”, one of the most meaningful songs of the group let by Ana and Felipe Fresón, is the protagonist of a release that includes two more never-before recorded songs: “Libertad” and “Dinero” follow the musical path marked by their last album, “Guitarras y Tambores”, which is to say, classical pop leanings, with loving proximities to the sixties sound, full of careful vocal melodies and delicious guitars. Lyrically, these new songs have a surprising corrosive breath hidden under a certain vindicating pose, acid and sarcastic, about such transcendental concepts as those that give the titles to the songs. These are definitively two new delicacies to add to their incredible repertoire, which has already triumphed in national music festivals (Indyspensable, Contempopránea) as well as international ones (our greatly admired Indietracks).

On the other hand, L [ Read more ]

“Bucles infinitos”, is the title track of LINDA GUILALA’s debut album and it’s the starring song of the group’s second video-clip. The video was filmed and directed in Australia by the multifaceted Christopher Kenworthy. Chris has spent the past 10 years working in film and television, has written scripts, has directed and produced shorts and documentaries, has published more than 600 articles and stories, more than 1600 of Chris’s photos have been published, he has written two novels and the best-seller “Master Shots”, which was number one in sales, in Cinematography, on Amazon for more than seven months. He is a character with a curious curriculum that ranges from documentaries about extraterrestrials (“Australian UFO Wave” has been seen by more than six million earthlings online) to his most recent big project, his first film “The Sculptor”, which is a supernatural thriller that we at Elefant will tell you about very soon, now that Christopher is an unconditional TREMBLING BLUE STARS fan and six of the songs from the London group’s latest album, “The Last Holy Writer”, are included in the movie.

Fascinated by the sounds and atmospheres of LINDA GUILALA, Christopher has constructed a spectacular video-clip that mixes the disturbing lyrics of “Bucles Infinitos” with the duo’s personal tastes and esthetic preferences. It is a multi-colored and imaginary world full [ Read more ]
