“Hinoki”, the last release from LOS BONSÁIS, is an album full of surprises. And “No Es Para Tanto” is probably the biggest surprise of all. It is a velvety, acoustic song that reminds us of that “Saudade” by our beloved LE MANS, their melancholy, laziness, their resigned unease. But if along with the song we also bring you a new video by Raquel Calvo (who has already directed music and lyric videos for GIORGIO TUMA, TRONCO, NEVVER, Cristina Quesada, TENNIS CLUB and LA CASA AZUL), it’s an even greater surprise. We have a precious trademark stop-motion, playing with textiles and textures to talk about a woman’s relationship with the sea, with her own internal world and her imagination. It is pure visual poetry. A delicacy that barely lasts for two minutes. Something to watch again and again.

After several Singles and two Mini-LP’s; after their songs have crossed most of the world’s oceans, after having performed in festivals like Popfest in New York and Indietracks in England, and after almost four years of silence since “Nordeste”, their last Mini-LP, we finally have a new release which is also, as strange as it might sound after six years of activity, LOS BONSÁIS’ first album.

Maybe the title, “Hinoki”, is not a coincidence. The Hinoki is a type of Japanese cypress that grows very slowly, but can grow to be more than 25 meters tall, and whose wood is used primarily to build palaces. Is this a call for patiencecategoría To not rush things and do things slowly but with convictioncategoría Either way, there is no doubt that “Hinoki” sounds less urgent than its antecedents, although that does not make it any less agile or addictive. Maturitycategoría Yes and no. Because Helena and Nel’s songs continue to make us feel young and rebellious, full of energy and vitality. But at the same time, they show traces of something that only time can reveal.

Yes, there is fresh, fun indie pop like “¡No Quiero Salir!” (which finds interesting parallels with the surfy “Septiembre”), but above all on the first part of the album, even that reformulated “Nubes Y Claros”, they talk about taking things slowly, contemplating your surroundings. Even that acoustic ta [ Read more ]

We couldn’t be more excited to have news about LOS BONSÁIS and to hear their new songs. Helena and Nel gave us almost four years’ worth of silence after reaching such a huge impact with their Singles and Mini-LP’s, even beyond our borders, in the United States and Japan. It has been four years since their last collection of their own songs and three years since that 7” of covers of four of their favorite bands: TV PERSONALITIES, THE VASELINES, BLACK TAMBOURINE and THE PASTELS. But now they are back with that same freshness and with those same delicious and immediate melodies. The bass comes in first, the drums come trotting in a moment later, the guitar lets out a few arpeggios and then the chorus comes and everything falls marvelously into place. “¡No Quiero Salir!” is a hymn to laziness made with astonishing sweetness. The video that illustrates it is good proof of that: books, comics, dresses and a sense of humor, in a garden full of flowers. Attitude, it’s called. We cannot wait to be able to share “Hinoki”, their first LP, with you. We are so close to getting our hands on the album, and on it they don’t hide, more than ever, their passion for AVENTURAS DE KIRLIAN and LE MANS. [ Read more ]

Every time we get our hands on a new LOS BONSÁIS release we realize how much we need their songs, like some kind of medicine that gets rid of the routine and the day-to-day, and fills you with joy, freshness, and the desire to live. This time, we have a black, numbered-limited-edition, 7” vinyl Single called “¡Fanzine!”. The title is a sneak peek into the contents of this new work by Nel and Helena. The Single is a tribute in and of itself and it teleports us through time to the golden years of the C-86. There are four covers, adapted to Spanish, all of which are proof of devotion and of a love of music that blend the surprise of the adopted forms with the love of the original song. It opens with nothing less than a “Punks A Tiempo Parcial”, that is a cynical, rough-house translation, as if it could be any other way, of the TV PERSONALITIES’ song, “Part-Time Punks”. The song makes the most of the original’s speedy boost and multiplies its pop spirit with a beyond catchy chorus. The vinyl’s side-A roommate is “Hijo Del Señor”, an appropriation, modified even in name, of THE VASELINES’ “Son Of A Gun”. If the original song combined its innocent and delicious melody with speed and bursts of noise, here we have that powerful riff that showcases one of the strong points of these Asturians: their ferocious [ Read more ]

A few weeks ago, we got to enjoy “Los Perdimos De Vista”, the advance single for this new numbered-limited-edition, blue, 10” Mini-LP, “Nordeste”. This song is exactly the one that opens this ode to immediacy: 10 songs in 18 minutes, distributed over two sides, where the addictive melodies slip between whips of punk-pop, mid-tempo, highly hummable songs, with even some small delicate touches.

“Los Perdimos De Vista” surprises us with its 50s touches, which are increased by that Hammond that also shows up on other songs, and which connects so well with the energy of what are looking to be their best songs so far. “Plan B” is a push, a sigh (it barely reaches the minute-mark), a furious and festive exhale; so much fun. Pure punk-pop. “Como Si Nada” doesn’t slow things down, continuing with the distortion and the saturated sound, once again giving us a fun Hammond that highlights the melancholy lyrics that stab us right through the heart like a hook with the sweetest bait. We will always hum that “Ya no te acuerdas de mí”. “Galbana” makes us think of NOSOTRÄSH for that kind of song that seems unfinished, small sketches that give their all in their delicateness and strange structure. “La Espina” closes the A-side, and it does so with the garage primitiveness of BEAT HAPPENING sweetened by Helena’s playful [ Read more ]

Few groups in Spain at the moment are as representative of what the C86 sound was as LOS BONSÁIS are. After their 7” single for our “New Adventures In Pop” collection, and a fantastic 10” vinyl Mini-LP, now we have the advance digital single from “Nordeste”, their newest full-length release.

“Los Perdimos De Vista” is solid proof of their urgent sound, in this case dressed up with a Hammond organ that accentuates their more melodic side, and which gives them a slightly more 50s touch and confirms that they are more than dignified of being called the heirs of timeless groups like SHOP ASSISTANTS, AVENTURAS DE KIRLIAN, THE VASELINES, and THE PASTELS. What’s more, this single includes “Nubes Y Claros”, a song that won’t be included on “Nordeste”, their upcoming 10” Mini-LP.

“Nubes Y Claros” has some of the sharpest guitars more relaxed tempo, and develops a pure vocal line with melancholic accents. The surprising harmony hints to a greater range in the group’s sounds, while at the same time remaining loyal to its sonic roots and punk-pop philosophy. We will soon see and enjoy this intense display.

There’s no doubt that the duo from Asturias formed by Nel González and Helena Toraño are at a joyfully creative high point. After the recent release of their Mini-LP, “Martín Pescador,” they’re back with a digital single that includes two previously unreleased tracks taken from the same recording session that brought about their last release.  The songs celebrate their fondness for dirty guitars and pop melodies, somewhere between THE JESUS & MARY CHAIN and THE PASTELS.

And the title track is precisely the opening track of “Martín Pescador,” that blast of urgency mixed with celestial voices that is “Serín.” The song describes the landscape on a train ride from between Oviedo and Gijón (which the group has also shown so well in their new video). “El Retorno,” the first of the new songs, brings the best of the Reid brothers to the territory of LINDA GUILALA (remember that Iván and Eva are holding the controls of this recording), with bass lines that could perfectly have been written by Kim Deal, on a song about second chances set in a marine fantasy environment. “Telefilme” leans more openly toward the pop-punk, with echoes of their beloved SHOP ASSISTANTS and THE PRIMITIVES, showing off their sense of urgency and immediacy with a song that makes it impossible for our feet not to tap and our bodies not s [ Read more ]

MINI-LP 10” [White Colour Vinyl] [Numbered Limited Edition of 500 copies]Includes a free digital MP3 download [320 kbps]

After the debut single for our collection “New Adventures In Pop” that caused quite a stir, LOS BONSÁIS are back with a Mini-LP that will be released in digital format and white 10” vinyl. It shows this respected duo from Asturias letting loose their passion for fast rhythm, noisy guitars and the sounds of bands like SHOP ASSISTANTS, THE VASELINES, MY BLOODY VALENTINE and THE PASTELS.

Hyperactive and self-sufficient, in addition to having prepared and recorded the eight songs on their new record and to their live performances over the past few months, Helena and Nel have also found time to make their own video-clips and release 4 editions of their fanzine “Temporal” (going back to the roots of the original fanzine format of photocopied paper). Helena also held her first art exhibition, displaying some of her work and demonstrating her exceptional talent as an artist, a talent that is clearly evident in the fascinating and captivating canvases she painted for the cover of the new record.

Once again, Iván and Eva from LINDA GUILALA have handled the recording and production in their Kaiju [ Read more ]

After a brief pause in April because of Easter week, Elefant Club is back with a new, huge party in Siroco club. Three groups that represent Elefant’s current musical line-up and one famous DJ will get on stage and make sure everyone has an unforgettable night, like they’ve done in previous editions of Elefant Club.

COLA JET SET are more than just Elefant’s current music. They are one of the groups who best represent the recent history of our label, and who are currently doing promotion for their new English-language single “Listen and repeat” at important international events like the Glasgow Popfest (UK) or the NYC Popfest (USA), where they will also perform a semi-acoustic concert to introduce their new line-up: Ana, the group’s vocalist, is leaving, as is Estel, the group’s other bassist; both want to focus more on their careers and their families. In their place, Alicia will step in as the lead vocalist, without leaving behind her guitar and keyboards. This concert will be a special occasion that will include new songs as well as part of their old repertoire. LOS BONSÁIS will perform in our club for the second time, to present new songs and their second video, “Temporal”. The video is for one of the songs from their debut single for our New Adventures in Pop collection, a song that clearly marks their punk-pop spirit, sprinkled with distortions and fuzz, with echoes of bands like MARINE GIRLS and S [ Read more ]
