If you’re a dedicated follower of the latest trends in the British independent scene, you will surely appreciate the intuition of Elefant Records’ Singles Club, which keeps on surprising everybody with its assorted deliveries. After having released some singles, now compiled in a CD, in Norwich based label Noisebox (do you remember that gorgeous IVY single, on this very Singles Club?), MAGOO started to get hip with their inclusion in the NME’s compilation "C-96", and their subsequent deal with Chemikal Underground, the label run by THE DELGADOS.

Close relatives of URUSEI YATSURA, nephews of THE BOO RADLEYS (those psychedelic melodies) and grand-sons of SONIC YOUTH or the early FALL, their perverse indie-rock soaked in feedback and recorded in resplendent lo-fi makes them heirs of a weird, eccentric universe, inhabited by American rock geniuses like PAVEMENT, SWIRLIES, FLAMING LIPS or TRUMAN’S WATER.

The firey guitars create layers of noise which almost stop you from appreciating the melodies, and they don’t fear to use crazy experimentation to achieve their aim: to alienate their flipping audience.

The songs on the flipside ("Candle Buddha" and "Robot Carnival") were released on Noisebox as a part of the first successful single of the band, acclaimed by all the British press, which even put them on the list of some clever majors.
