MARINITA PRECARIA’s album, “Un Vaso De Agua” is so close to being here, but until then, we can enjoy a new advance single. “Fantasmas” is a surprisingly exuberant song that uses a kind of hyper-pop as a vehicle to move between danceable and more introspective rhythms, with calypso and personal, top-notch electronic pop. With the sonic sensibilities of FAMILY, the imagination of Cecilia, and the personality of VAINICA DOBLE, Marina Gómez once again shows us that she is one of the greatest promises of Spanish pop, capable of building surprising songs that feel intimate to each listener and talk about universal feelings with words that have never been used to describe them before. Just look at the chorus of “Fantasmas”: “Si salgo de fiesta / Me acuerdo de ti / Me has llenao la casa entera de fantasmas / Y ahora te da miedo venir / Duermen conmigo en el salón / Ya no tiene solución / Viven aburridos / Verme es un castigo / Ven y pídeles perdón” (If I go out / I think of you / You’ve filled my house full of ghosts / And now you’re afraid to come over / They sleep with me in the living room / Nothing can be done / They’re bored / Watching me is punishment / Come and tell them you’re sorry). What else can we saycategoría She knows exactly how to say it and is the master of that emotion.

The time is getting nearer, after that 10” vinyl called “No Me Miréis”, for the first full length from MARINITA PRECARIA. We have already advanced “Final Explicado” and “El Mundo No Es Para Tanto”, and now it’s time for “Momento Decisivo”, where she once again gives us a marvelous exercise in vital costumbrism to express that moment of longing, the expectations, the yearning. The ease with which Marina Gómez paints these stories comes from an identity based on a way of seeing the world that is full of love and sensitivity. We can also appreciate Sergio Pérez’s production work in the music, who has worked with LA BIEN QUERIDA, Joe Crepúsculo, LOS PUNSETES, Soleá Morente, MUJERES, CABIRIA and so many more), which gives MARINITA PRECARIA’s music a special strength, elevating the emotional intensity of something that is already created to make you shudder with excitement. It’s everything a “Momento Decisivo” needs. And that moment is about to arrive.

A few weeks ago, we gave you “Final Explicado”, the first song introducing us to MARINITA PRECARIA’s debut album. We are still following the trail that Marina is building with her songs, leading us to that anticipated moment, and we have gotten to “El Mundo No Es Para Tanto”. A song where, amidst tropical echoes, the songwriter lets her most colorful pop spirit loose. And once again, it seems that with so few and such intimate resources, she talks about such grand and immense things: “El mundo no es para tanto / Y esta calle está bien / Ya has visto las Pirámides / Qué más quieres ver” (The world isn’t all that / And this street is just fine / You’ve already seen the Pyramids / What more do you want to see). The production work of Sergio Pérez(LOS PUNSETES, Soleá Morente, Joe Crepúsculo, MUJERES, LA BIEN QUERIDA, CABIRIA and many more) stands out again, giving the sound a solidness and certain complexity that pushes the song to be even more emotionally intense. And the beautiful, cloudy cover photo is by Neelam Khan Vela. We are still building the path, and we feel like Marina is leading the way and holding our hand, and that makes us feel SO good.

There has been a lot of commotion over MARINITA PRECARIA’s first Mini-LP. Her lyrics – simple, sensitive and profoundly inspired – together with that extremely sophisticated and emotional pop, makes us think this is the arrival of another phenomenon like LE MANS, LA BUENA VIDA, NIZA or FAMILY. But we are getting there, and “Final Explicado” is the beginning of a very important event – her debut album. This time, her new songs are co-produced with Sergio Pérez (who has worked with LA BIEN QUERIDA, Joe Crepúsculo, LOS PUNSETES, Soleá Morente, MUJERES, CABIRIA and so many more) and here this work can be felt and heard on a song that evokes sweet synth-pop, with a touch of that elegance that the best Italo Disco has, and that hint of melancholy; a marvelous dress for Marina Gómez‘ songs. “Final Explicado” is the story of an end foretold, the sadness when you see that everything is falling apart, but here with a touch of bitterness.

This is also represented in the music video directed by Rafael Martínez Calle, who directed the short film “Crudo”, that was screened in over 14 countries, received multiple international awards and in the Málaga Film Festival won “Best Director”. His second short film, “Velar”, was released at the Film Festival in Sevilla and will be screened in other festivals soon.

“New Adventures In Pop” collection [Issue 054]

TRACKLIST: 01 Celosa  02 Al Campo  03 Una Montaña  04 Tú Pa Qué  05 Espatifilo 06 Siento Todavía  07 Breve Momento De Voluntad  08 Todos Tristes  09 Letra De Niña

Oh, how we have been waiting for this moment. This is why the “New Adventures In Pop” collection was created. So that it could become a selection of delicious albums and, above all, to support the first steps of unique, special musicians and artists who sometimes even then became references in the music scene. PAPA TOPO, TRONCO, LISASINSON, CARIÑO, AXOLOTES MEXICANOS and AIKO EL GRUPO are just a few clear examples of this. And we are sure that MARINITA PRECARIA will be another example of this soon. Because Marina Gómez Marín has made one of those unique albums, where the musical calligraphy of our star stands out from the very first second – in the way she produces, in her voice, in her melodies and in her lyrics. “No Me Miréis” takes us to so many places, but in the end it reaches a clear, pristine goal: the most exciting pop possible, or sadness served in the shape of a sugar cube.

The first physical format release from MARINITA PRECARIA, “No Me Miréis”, is finally here as part of our “New Adventures In Pop” collection. We believe that Marina Gómez Marín’s songs make her one of the biggest promises in pop in Spain, because of her personality and her melodies, along the lines of LA BIEN QUERIDA, VAINICA DOBLE or LE MANS. And we want to celebrate all of this with a new advance Digital Single taken from this vinyl that will come out in a few short days. “Al Campo” is a tribute to the love of nature and the rejection of the city, its stress, its noise and its contamination. For the occasion, David Vega has recorded another video on 16mm that shows our protagonist and her friends looking through the trash in Madrid trying to find old, bucolic paintings, trying to teleport themselves to a world full of trees and grass. Enjoy this marvelous song, because soon “No Me Miréis” will be here and nothing will ever be the same again.

A few weeks ago, we introduced you to the first songs from Marina Gómez Marín, also known as MARINITA PRECARIA. We talked about those figures that make up a completely unique way of understanding pop music in Spain. “Celosa” makes us think of LE MANS at their freshest, with their sensational irony, and of NIZA and their delicate melodies. And of course, we already said it a few weeks ago, but it’s worth repeating: there is also the spirit of VAINICA DOBLE. But what brings Marina closest to all these references is the very personal, different and unique way she understands pop. And she develops it with honesty, emotion, without artifices, with her heart in her hand and the sound that emanates from her very own bedroom.

The thing is, with just three songs it is already very clear that her first Mini-LP for our “New Adventures In Pop” collection is going to be a true gem, the kind that fans of greatness coming from subtle details evoke, like morning dew. And once again, the cover of this second single is designed by Marina herself, also again playing with a series of photographs by Raquel Calvo, where the sepia tones and chiaroscuros take a leading role. Santi Capuz (LA BIEN QUERIDA, NEVVER, Soleá Morente, AIKO EL GRUPO) is in charge of directing the music video for “Celosa”. Silky textures and everyday life in a fresh and fun video.

We love it so much when we discover one of those hidden talents lying in wait in the independent national scene. Marina Gómez Marín almost arrived at music as a result of an economic crisis and a work pandemic. After being laid off in June 2020, she was looking for a way out of the situation by buying herself a keyboard and recording songs in her room. And all of us pop fans know that songs that are culled slowly behind the intimacy of four walls always wind up having unique, inimitable touches, far from the regular mainstream parameters. That is why we are full of all the excitement, bringing you MARINITA PRECARIA’s first advance single for what will be, due in 2022, her debut Mini-LP for our collection “New Adventures In Pop”. Close to NOSOTRÄSH and VAINICA DOBLE, to THE MAGNETIC FIELDS and EAST RIVER PIPE. “Siento Todavía” has a harmonic development that we are sure Neil Hannon would adore, a story that LA BIEN QUERIDA would love to tell, production work that FAMILY would have loved to put out… Because the coordinates needed to define Marina’s music are from a certain level: timeless, exciting and undisputable. The B-side of the debut single is “Tú Pa Qué”, a precious song that celebrates that unreal and warm hallucination that Gloria Van Aerssen and Carmen Santonja made possible. Because our protagonist has a talent not only for revealing her feeling [ Read more ]
