There were some magic years in the history of Spanish pop music (79-84): during this period, the country was literally invaded with a explosion of new bands which helped to renew the Spanish scene, at that time in a very boring and predictable situation. They didn´t play very well, but they compensated this with lots of brilliant ideas, freshness and good humour.

There was a wide range of styles: colourful, jangly pop, cool wave bands, punk and rock and roll outfits… and as we were in the early eighties, techno pop bands too. AVIADOR DRO was the most popular one, but there was also another techno pop band from Madrid following their footsteps, with a very curious name: METAL Y CA.

METAL Y CA was formed by Curro Rodriguez (vocals, synth, writer of all songs), Fernando Cañada (guitars, vocals and programming), Fernando Cabello (sax and vocals), plus Ana Valenzuela and Ana Villacorta doing backing vocals. They started recording a demo under the name of EL HUMANO MECANO in 1980. Then they changed their name to METAL Y CA, and made a new demo with the songs "Ciudad Estado" and "Datos (de comer)", where we could already find the main characteristics of their style -brilliant sythth rhythms, sax arrangements and very endearing naive-futuristic lyrics.

Shortly after they were signed by a small independent label called Lollipop, which released three METAL Y CA singles between 1982 and 1983. But success never came, and the band split on 1984, after leaving the legacy of a track ("Bomba") in a single included in a fanzine that year.

More than a decade later, Lollipop would release a CD compilation with all METAL Y CA songs ("Superavit", 1996). And now Elefant presents you a single with our favourite METAL Y CA songs: "El Ultimo Superviviente" (from their 1st single), "Velocidad" (from the 2nd) and "Planeta" (from the last one), along with the aforementioned "Bomba". As this will surely be your first contact with their music, enjoy this bubbling, bouncing eighties techno pop, and thank Elefant for introducing you to one of the best Spanish eighties pop outfits!!!!
