A delicious band formed by three girls and three boys from Madrid, hooked on the funniest synth-pop from the 80s, Spanish trashy movies from the 60s and the attitude and aesthetics of 90s indie-pop. An explosive mixture which turned them into the most charming new band to appear in our country last year, something we couldnt help but shelter since we became totally hooked on their demo tape.
METEOSAT sound refreshing and modern, and have an irresistible eighties touch which takes us back to those mythical nights of the Spanish "movida", the RockOla Club, METAL&CA and AVIADOR DRO (I guess you need a course on Spanish new wave, right?).
On "Los Idiomas Vivientes", where they had the help on production of David Rodríguez from BEEF, they tell us in their naïve, saucy way a Brubaker style sci-fi tale, they render tribute to the curious and nostalgic phenomenon of the "landismo" (how could an actor be on every single movie done in Spain during the 60s, and how could all they be so bad, yet so funny?), and they close with their undeniable hit: "Radio España 2000", a song which is pure new wave, an ironic, irreverent and terribly catchy critic to the situation of the radio broadcasting in Spain.
METEOSATs debut, released on both CD and coloured vinyl 7", is one of the most attractive records of the season: pure pop, simple and direct, packaged in a galactic cover and ready to reach inside your head and stay stuck there for months. Try listening to them more than once and just tell me if you can avoid their side effects.
