“El Último Segundo” is one of the most luminous songs from NELEONARD’s second album, “Un Lugar Imaginado”. An exhibit of soul pop, with touches of funk and electro-pop that ranges between BELLE & SEBASTIAN and TAHITI 80, and which brings us back to that marvelous album thanks to this digital single that includes the gift of three previously unreleased songs that enrich the group from Barcelona’s state of inspiration. Francesca Catalá has prepared a delicious video, which is set up as a conversation between two teenagers that meet up to talk about their relationship, their love. This all takes place in the Laberint d'Horta Park in Barcelona. Because this garden was created based on mythological stories related to love. There we find the labyrinth of Ariadne and Theseus, the fountain of the nymph Egeria, the cave of Echo, a sculpture of Eros and another of Narcissus.

“¿Dónde Están Los Niñoscategoría” is another of those trademark three-four time songs, with that personal touch that Spanish guitars and castanets add, and those lyrics full of pleasant irony, shared by Nele and Laura. “Lo Que Ya Has Perdido” is a mid-tempo full of sadness and melancholy, a reflection of lonely, empty nights, an anthem to great losers. Listen to “No debes temer, No debes temer lo que ya has perdido” (Don’t be afraid, Don’t be afraid of what you have al [ Read more ]

After meeting all expectations with the first album, “Las Causas Perdidas”, which made them the next big promise of pop sung in Spanish, the powerful live show NELEONARD showed off on the tour for that album became one of the biggest keys to making “Un Lugar Imaginado” the culmination of such a thrilling proposition. Because “Un Lugar Imaginado” beats its predecessor in intensity and dynamics, and it makes an incredibly intelligent read of all things epic in pop, that roller coaster of emotions made out of melodies, arrangements, starts and stops. Nothing needs to be confirmed; it’s already done. Let yourselves go.

We open the doors with “El Mismo”, with its summery, lazy air, and that beginning that feels like an homage to DOBLE PLETINA (in fact, Laura Antolín is present here on the choruses). It’s a story about break-ups and disappointment, with an emotional crescendo based on really delicious, exquisite choruses and chords. “Sorpresa, Vacío” (the second advance single for the album) steps on the gas, with echoes of HOUSEMARTINS and early CARDIGANS, backing up a reflection on the idiosyncrasy of giving and not receiving. And we have an amazing example of a whole gallery of structural changes, stops, starts… A roller coaster, remembercategoría “Por No Hablar” is a huge slap in the face. Clear and evident traces of sadness that Nele Navío explic [ Read more ]

We enjoyed that foretold surprise that was NELEONARD’s debut album so much, with their singles, their first album and their marvelous live shows. Critics and fans alike praised them. Now the time has come to open a new cycle, with the imminent arrival of their second full-length, “Un Lugar Imaginado”, which will be released after summer. In the meantime, they have left us a wonderful advance song from that highly anticipated album: “El Bufón”. It is a paragon of soul-pop with touches of northern, influences of CAMERA OBSCURA and ALLO DARLIN’, their trademark vocal play, absolutely amazing arrangements, lyrics that, once again, hit you where it hurts, cut you in half, and then just at the last second, smile at you. Like they themselves say: “El Bufón” is aimed at that person you loved so much and who didn’t care about or trust in you. That person shows up a few years later, after you felt awful, looking for all the possible mistakes you could have made, having felt small and insignificant, broken… And they declare their eternal love to you, telling you how much you meant to them and their life, and tries to go back to that time. But you have already moved on… And two feelings collide inside you: on the one hand, anger for the hard times you went through and “what could have been”, and on the other hand bitter satisfaction and the melancholy that remains after the initial ironic-e [ Read more ]

We are really excited to share this album with you. And you know it. Since a little over a year and a half ago, we have been dishing out a few select songs by NELEONARD, and we were dying to show you everything this group – formed by Nele, Laura, Elena, Guille, Eloy and Pedro – can do. And the time has finally arrived, with “Las Causas Perdidas”.

This album has that elegant pop spirit that is highly emotional, subtle, delicate, and that shows the fragility of what it is to be human. With the upbeat opening of “Reluces”, with clear echoes of THE DIVINE COMEDY, we see it clearly. Those beyond perfect arrangements that mark a crescendo that is more thanmusical: “En tu casa he oído que vives sin ti / sintiendo lo cerca que estamos del cielo”. (I heard that you live in your house without yourself / feeling how close we are to heaven.)Rebirth, reestablishment, believing in new opportunities, enjoying the feeling of security that someone gives you and that makes everything shine again. And when “La Más Alegre” starts, we have the first direct hit. Optimism in its purest form. Luminosity. LA BIEN QUERIDA. The strength necessary to enjoy life. We have already talked a lot about “Coger Frío”, in a good way, from the advance single, with that tart but colorful push that Darren Hayman reallylikes to use. “Seguro Que Es Por M [ Read more ]

Just a few short months ago we were enjoying NELEONARD’s single “Casi Cuela”, which confirmed what their Mini-LP “Agosto” showed us: Nele’s band is one of the best on the current scene in Spain. Soon, their debut album “Las Causas Perdidas” will be out and will reconfirm everything more palpably and solidly.

“Coger Frío” is the advance single for “Las Causas Perdidas”. It’s difficult to condense everything that NELEONARD’s album contains into one single song, and we want so badly to let you listen to all of it, but “Coger Frío” definitely contains a lot of what the album has to offer. The pop spirit, in this case inherited from PULP, CAMERA OBSCURA and HEFNER, the elegance and precision of the arrangements of THE DIVINE COMEDY and LA BUENA VIDA, and above all, spot on lyrics that hit the emotional bulls-eye; the kind of lyrics we will need to memorize on the first listen and sing along with like someone possessed. This song talks about the disappointments life can give us, especially with the things we had our hopes set so high for that ultimately fail us, but how sometimes the little details are the things that turn out to be the most important. “Coger frío para poder perder el miedo a lo conocido /… / Desaprender lo aprendido / Llenando cada silencio con palabras que inventar” (Getting a little cold to lose the fear of the known /… / [ Read more ]

A few months ago, we talked effusively about NELEONARD’s songs, the glory of which was captured on that marvelous 10” Mini-LP called “Agosto”. This 2015 they are already confirmed at festivals like Primavera Sound or Contempopránea, and we’re celebrating a fruitful year with a new single from Nele and friends. These two new songs confirm that NELEONARD is one of the most biggest promises in Spanish pop, with music that is sober, fresh, but also has so much to say, and a tremendously rich lyrical and musical discourse.

“Casi Cuela” begins brightly, with wind instruments pushing the levels of optimism through the roof. Chamber pop, with an exciting dynamic, combining the emotional lyricism of LA BUENA VIDA and LE MANS first steps with the melodic force of BELLE AND SEBASTIAN, Sondre Lerche, and Jens Lekman. “Buscaremos Los Nombres” is a B-side in every way. It’s the complete opposite of the A-side, with a more serious, solemn tone, and influences from popular folklore and experimental folk groups. Turbulent and turbid, stormy and watery. Impressive.

With each new NELEONARD release we hear, we reaffirm that we are looking at one of the most satisfying groups in Spanish pop in the coming years. You can hear it yourselves now.

Here at Elefant Records we really believe in NELEONARD. We believe in Nele’s lyrics, in their clear ideas about making POP songs: big, full of detail, with the goal of getting you hooked on the first listen, and not at all hesitant to talk about LOVE and the disappointments of relationships, whatever kind they may be. And that’s exactly why NELEONARD’s record label debut is going to be the first 10” in the catalogue of our collection for new artists, New Adventures In Pop. It’s a collection of songs capable of incorporating everything from the wide range of sounds of LA BIEN QUERIDA, to the lyrical sensitivity of Ana Fernández-Villaverde, the delicacy of a young LE MANS, the emotion of BELLE AND SEBASTIAN, an instrumental classicism close to bands like THE DIVINE COMEDY, FELT’s delicate guitars, or the memory of Spanish folk-pop groups from the 70s like José Manuel, SOLERA, PICNIC and NUEVOS HORIZONTES.

Since their personal project was born in 2012, Nele have been adding people to the group to really give these songs everything they needed: Laura Alonso,Elena Comas,Guille Rodríguez,Eloy Bernal and Pedro Señalada, who come from bands like GÚDAR, LOS PROBETA, DIE KATAPULT, GABRIEL Y VENCERÁS and HIBERNALES. And step by step, the moment has finally arrived to get into the Caballo Grande Studios, with the production work of Cristian Pallejà (NISEI, FRED I SON) and Ferran Resines (BL [ Read more ]
