NINOTCHKA is the pop collective spawned in John Croziers tiny studio in Minneapolis, MN. As their first, wonderful single attests, the ethereal vocals of Amy Turany (from the Carrot Top recording artists FEBRUARY) coupled with Johns gorgeous production style result in unabashed and soaring pop music. Mary Walz (violin, vocals) and Bryan Hanna (drums) also appear on this single, which has already been compared to the likes of BROADCAST and STEREOLAB, and has received great feedback from specialized press worldwide. We are proud to present this splendid piece of multicoloured vinyl as as part of Elefant Records Singles Club.
Guitarist/soundist/composer John Crozier is a phenomenon that Minneapolis should share with the rest of the world. He has been involved with a score of Minneapolis bands through the years, including groundbreaking modsters the FUNSEEKERS, whose pop charisma made their mark on many of the Minneapolis pop bands of the 90s. He was also a guitarist with the HANG UPS, LEGENDARY JIM RUIZ GROUP and MUSKELLUNGE.
John is just recently striking out more on his own as a composer and songwriter, and his music is some of the most interesting and beautiful in pop music today. He has been a collaborator on "Scottish Rite Temple Stomp", by NINIAN HAWICK (an all-star cast featuring Heather McElhatton on vocals and a supporting cast of bagpipes, lead kick drum, piano, and flotsam! This song has become a big hit on BBC Scotland), and "Leave All Your Old Loves", by THE SHEBREWS. Both songs were included on a delicious, collectors split single last year.
