We’ve finally got it. “pasadas de moda” is the second album from the PUTOCHINOMARICÓN project called “Segundos Minutos Horas Días” – a project that questions the nature, esthetic and consumption of music in an era where everything is fleeting and consumed without reflection. It is a critique of current music consumption, which has moved toward ephemeral interaction on networks and away from genuinely enjoying physical format or streaming platforms. It is an imaginary album by the artist dadá, a product of nepotism, which serves as a vehicle to criticize the artist as a content creator, like a house pet that wants to please instead of challenge. At the same time, it’s an opportunity to review some of the musical movements from the beginning of the century, like blog house, indie sleaze and electroclash, although not as an exercise in nostalgia but instead as a way to update the sound, criticizing the elitism and exclusiveness. This provokes a surprising change in

Chenta’s sound, making it more accessible, pure, more spacious, and letting the album show off their more pop spirit, throwing names in the mix like LE TIGRE, TINGS TINGS, FISCHERSPOONER, MISS KITTIN’, TIGA and many more.

The same song the gives the album its name begins by making it clear that no prisoners will be taken here: “Juguete roto de mierda / De ti ya nadie se acuerda / Te leñaron las pesetas / ¿Ahora qu&eac [ Read more ]

After “soy un idiota” and “tu padre es un facha y tu madre una terf”, we bring you “arthoe”, the latest advance single from “pasadas de moda”, the second album from PUTOCHINOMARICÓN’s project, “Segundos Minutos Horas Días”. This song takes a deeper look at the idea of the artist as an object of consumption, and their commercialization in the XXI century. All of this is done with an electroclash rhythm, somewhere between LE TIGRE and FISCHERSPOONER, and with a clear tribute to CSS’ “Art Bitch”.

Chenta’s pen is once again a powerful weapon. “Porque querer es poder / Porque el poder es querer / Y con esfuerzo y tiempo, si yo he podido tú también” (Because love is power / Because power is love / And with time and effort, if I can do it so can you), which is a direct critique of the culture of effort and meritocracy. How can we not remember that broken toy that Michael Jackson was with lines like: “Tan fácil como ABC / Tan fácil como 1,2,3 / No me importa la fama y me importa también” (It’s easy as ABC / As simple as 1, 2, 3 / I don’t care about the fame but I care about the fame).

Another immediate, danceable song to sing along with and shout at the top of your lungs. It makes it clear, once again, what a state of grace – both musically and conceptually – PUTOCHINOMARIC&Oa [ Read more ]

Just a few days ago we gave you the advance single “soy un idiota”, and we continue bringing you the songs that are included on “pasadas de moda”, the second album from PUTOCHINOMARICÓN’s tetralogy “Segundos Minutos Horas Días”. “pasadas de moda” is an imaginary album from the artist dadá, a nepo baby, who yearns for viral recognition, inspired by the Billy Wilder movie, “Sunset Boulevard”. In fact, the cover of “tu padre es un facha y tu madre una terf” is reminiscent of Joe Gillis’ body when it is found floating in Norma Desmond’s pool after having been murdered. The bare butt is censured by a red star like in gossip magazines, showing how celebrities’ bodies are perverted nowadays to the point that they are objectified even in death.

The song “tu padre es un facha y tu madre una terf” specifically leaves behind the electro and synth-pop style that this new album from Chenta explores, and to do so it includes the collaboration of Iñaki Mendoza on guitar and Fabiana Giménez Barraz on drums. They recorded in the “Estudios Lagartija”, with the Chilean sound engineer Pablo Gálvez Cataldo. Also representing Chile is Chenta’s inseparable travel companion Ignacio Redard, who is back to do the mixing and mastering on this new PUTOCHINOMARICÓN album, and in this occasion also coproduces th [ Read more ]

There’s no time for rest. Not a second to breathe. We just barely finished listening to “Afong (Mordió La Mano Del Amo)”, the first album from the project “SMHD (Arte Contenido)” (acronym for Seconds Minutes Hours Days) that Chenta put together, and we’re already bringing you an advance single from the second part, “pasadas de moda” (an imaginary album from the artist dadá, child of nepotism, who longs for viral fame and recognition). And the pen is still a sharp sword. “soy un idiota” is a confession, a kind of self-harm that works as a rebound effect from society’s aggressiveness. Based, sound-wise, on blog house, with echoes of DIPLO, CUT COPY and JUSTICE, PUTOCHINOMARICÓN continues to grow their role as an artist, defying stylistic limits, yes, but also defying the listener, pushing them out of their comfort zone, reflecting on all the things that define our lives these days.

In this case, it is fear of being alone, fear of frustration, fear of not getting what you want. In a world of success, of ultra-filtered Instagrams, all the fears that create an existential vacuum disappear and everything is based on image and on pleasures that fill the empty spaces. And that’s when Chenta lets out: “Me alejo de sueños y alejo a quien quiero / Y por miedo a perderlos no quiero tenerlos” (I push away my dreams and I push away whomever I want / My fear of losing them [ Read more ]

We will never get tired of saying it. There have been key artists throughout history, and they reached this status because of their ability to read the times they live in and deconstruct and process them, regurgitate them and create beauty, reflection, excitement and impact. Each new step that Chenta Tsai takes gives us the feeling of being two kilometers ahead. This is especially admirable in these fast, urgent, lightspeeding times, when it is difficult to settle down and get comfortable because once you do you realize you aren’t keeping up. And now PUTOCHINOMARICÓN is here with an immense, prodigious project, made up of four albums that are a part of a project called “SMHD (Arte Contenido)” (acronym for Seconds Minutes Hours Days).

The project comes from the conflict that currently exists between the definition of content creator and artist, the search for authenticity in a context of cloned identities. That’s where the concept of “Arte Contenido” (Content Art) comes from, which drives the [ Read more ]

Some albums are destined to become references, the reflection of a specific moment, a snapshot of the sounds and realities that move the world. And we wouldn’t be wrong if we say that “JÁJÁ ÉQÚÍSDÉ (Distopía Aburrida)”, the third pack of songs from PUTOCHINOMARICÓN, is one of hyperpop’s / futurepop’s album of reference. And it is one precisely because of the way it accepts its imperatives and stretches them out, twists them, pushes their limits and mixes them with thousands of other styles and influences. At this moment, and thanks to artists like Chenta Tsai, a sound or a musical movement becomes a style, an ingredient that can be added to any cocktail. That’s what happens when we talk about JOY DIVISION and post-punk, or MASSIVE ATTACK and trip-hop, to give a few examples. And “JÁJÁ ÉQÚÍSDÉ (Distopía Aburrida)” does this with an immense and surprising collection of national and international collaborators who have made this album’s sonic map so tremendous.

While we are waiting for “JÁJÁ ÉQÚÍSDÉ (Distopía Aburrida)”, the get here, we continue to advance pieces of one of the most exciting puzzles to be published in a long time. Because Chenta Tsai’s new album challenges the world on so many levels, and with “Tamagotchi” it is definitively confirmed. Produced by Chenta, mixed and mastered by Ignacio Redard and with the stellar collaboration of GFOTY (Girlfriend Of The Year), it is a twisted exercise in digicore, with a nasty, addictive, catchy and danceable chorus. It is the story of the strange emotions of being “online”, the feeling that you are constantly being watched mixed with the pleasure of being connected. To capture this, Daniel Cuenca has prepared a space odyssey full of special effects, where Chenta and GFOTY dance and travel amidst galactic waves and green aliens.

It is a challenge to the limits of what has been established until now, the cry of a generation that sees a world that many can’t see. Or are afraid to. That is why we need artists like Chenta, who can see deeper, who can break down the symptoms of the times we live in and take them to a new level. Keep your eyes peeled, because “JÁJÁ ÉQÚÍSDÉ (Distopía Aburrida)” is going to be wild.

We have been anxiously awaiting news from Chenta Tsai. Yes, there are a lot of expectations about what this limitless and unpredictable artist is capable of doing. At the beginning of 2022, their new album, “JÁJÁ ÉQÚÍSDÉ (DISTOPÍA ABURRIDA)” will finally arrive. Maybe this is the album of a generation, the definitive hyperpop reference, but either way it is definitely going to stir up the music scene in Spain and in so many other places. A release like this needs to be savored little by little, to enjoy it the way it deserves to be enjoyed. And we will explain this new universe that PUTOCHINOMARICÓN has created piece by piece. JÁJÁ ÉQÚÍSDÉ is a fictitious place projected by Chenta that came about as a result of not being able to find a place where they belonged, of feeling like they were “from neither here nor from there”, and the desire was born to build a space where they felt like they could be their true defragmented self. That’s why we are bringing you a Digital Single with two advance songs, “DM” and “Chique De Internet”, where we can see PUTOCHINOMARICÓN’s obsessions: the reality of virtual emotions, communication in the XXI century and relationships in a digital world.

When you hear something that is so incredible that you don’t know if it’s painstakingly calculated, or whether it is the result of a marvelous coincidence, congratulations: you are dealing with something absolutely amazing. Everything that Chenta Tsai makes seems to be like this. And he has done it again, after that “Corazón De Cerdo Con Ginseng Al Vapor”, after his devastating autobiographical book, after his great radio show or his diverse collaborations with the newspaper El País. But each time we have new material from him in our hands we feel like something like this can only come from the deepest part of him. And everything makes so much sense. “Miseria Humana” is a new Mini-LP conceived to reflect current forms of consumption. It is a criticism of the way we consume songs today, consumerist culture, and the ephemeral life of all the things that surround us.

Mini songs that barely reach the two-minute mark, Loop Music that, as Chenta himself explains, “are consumed by playing them on repeat until you get tired of the song and throw it away”. Put this way, it seems like he’s treating his songs with a certain disdain and contempt. But that’s Chenta. He isn’t just anyone. He’s a violinist for the Madrid Royal Music Conservatory. He’s an architect. And he is PUTOCHINOMARICÓN. Only someone like him could write songs like “Deporte Nacional” and “Doble [ Read more ]

We are so incredibly excited for you to be able to listen to “Miseria Humana”, the new album from Chenta Tsai, alias PUTOCHINOMARICÓN. A new work that is like a nostalgic playlist from the 2000’s with futuristic touches, a recreation of the music Chenta grew up with but based on a dream about things to do on the last day on planet earth, in the consummation of the end of the world. This new work is a transition, a discovering of new sounds and making contact with other musicians, producers and graphic and visual artists in an artistic cooperation with no limits or boundaries.

As proof of all of this we are bringing you another advance Single that is going to be, without a doubt, one of the musical events of 2019. “Deporte Nacional” confirms so many things. That the new songs have grown exponentially in terms of productions: more solid, complex bases, more complete arrangements and powerful sound. Chenta is not about mincing his words: in less than two minutes he can show the colors of our gossipy culture like no one else has done before. And he is capable of doing all of this shooting out choruses like torpedoes, highly danceable, mixing styles with shocking skill, from trap to synth-pop, from break-beat to hip-hop.

And with this release, that’s two of two. A couple songs like aces that have been pulled out of character who is trying to change so many things in the national scene, and not only regarding music. The way Chenta s [ Read more ]

He is a phenomenon. We don’t stutter when we say it. Chenta, the name behind PUTOCHINOMARICÓN, after completely selling out his first release, “Corazón De Cerdo Con Ginseng Al Vapor”, is now enjoying a meteoric career. He released an incendiary autobiography called “Arroz Tres Delicias” with the publisher Plan B, where he showed off his mix of cynicism (like Antisthenes) and social protest, using his own story as an example. Starting last September, he writes a weekly column in El País, where he develops and reinforces his ideas and his way of seeing society, making it clear that this whole influencer thing is not enough for him. Also, as of February, he has a radio program on M21 called “Nada Especial” where he tries to portray Madrid through the testimonies and life experiences of dissident, racialized, migrant voices… And offers an open, versatile, diverse artistic perspective.

And all of this takes us directly to his imminent new album, “Miseria Humana”, that will be released digitally this coming May 10, and physically in September. What we have here is this first highly expected advance. “Doble Tic Azul” is a big step forward in production and sound: clean, marvelous bases, somewhere between the most stylish electro-pop, with touches of trap, autotune… And then there are the lyrics, his vision of the current high-tech world, between love and hate, between irony and devot [ Read more ]

Our “New Adventures In Pop” collection came about as a way to give voice to new artists whose projects captivated Elefant Records (PAPA TOPO, TRONCO, DIE KATAPULT, AXOLOTES MEXICANOS…). But sometimes, some groups spread so quickly online and on social networks, and their songs and messages have such an impact that when their first songs are officially released they are already really well known. They’ve already been applauded by the media and stalked by the most unconditional fans. Such is the case with Chenta Tsai Tseng, better known as PUTOCHINOMARICÓN. A migrant originally from China, he is an architect, a musician, an activist, and a unique, inimitable character in love with pop culture from recent decades. Interviews in El País, La Sexta, El Confidencial, FantasticPlastic, Radio 3… Concerts where the audience goes crazy and songs that are authentic protest anthems for new generations… These have been his first steps in the music world.

Yes, like we are saying, this is his first record label release, but he has thousands of views on YouTube and has already given us so much to talk about… Some places actually say he is an “influencer” because of how intense his Instagram activity is. Some people will already be gritting their teeth. That’s when PUTOCHINOMARICÓN rubs his hands together and sharpens his quill. His thing is to break down preconceptions and along these lines we [ Read more ]
