SING SING is a Uk band formed by Lisa O Neill (vocals) and Emma Anderson (guitars). They both met in 1997 and soon realised how much they had in common.
Lisa had collaborated with Mark Van Hoen from LOCUST (singing and cowriting a track in "Morning light" album) and had also worked with MAD PROFESSOR, though she hadnt sung in a professional band till SING SING came into her life.
Emma had been part of LUSH, a band that had a lot of success in the first half of the nineties. Their blend of distorted guitars and evanescent vocals, like a perfect combination of COCTEAU TWINS and MY BLOODY VALENTINE, made LUSH a crucial name in that unforgettable "shoegazing sound" of the time. They left three albums in 4AD and classics such as "Deluxe", "For love", "Hypocrite", "Ladykillers" just to mention some.
Lisa and Emma had both very ecclectic tastes, so they didnt want to limit themselves to have a mere guitar act, or a straight dance act. Ther aim was to achieve a quite unique sound, with sixties elements, a smattering of electronica and folk, and always having solid good tunes as a basis. SING SING was born.
After an excellent debut single ("Feels like summer", 1998) released by Bella Union, label managed by ex-COCTEAU TWINS and long-time Emmas pals Robin Guthrie and Simon Raymonde, SING SING start working on their first album. The recording process is slow and careful, being produced by Mark Van Hoen from LOCUST. As the band wanted some more records released before the album was finished, three more singles are out in the meantime: a Fierce Panda split with LINOLEUM and two other in their own Aerial label ("Ill be" and a new recording of "Feels like summer").
After the summer of 2001 SING SING debut album "The joy of Sing Sing" is finally released. Its out in Poptones, the new label by illustrious Alan Mc Gee, ex CREATION, the person who first trusted in such bands as OASIS, PRIMAL SCREAM or JESUS AND MARY CHAIN among many others.
"Panda Eyes", the A side of this SING SING single for Elefant Records, is included in the album and shows the band at its very best. Theres little remain of the members previous projects: what we do find here is an immaculate melody and a cool mix of electronic beats and guitars, with an overall sound and feeling pretty close to the best moments of LIGHTNING SEEDS.
"Office party" is the flip, and its completely the opposite, the other side of the band. Only vocals and guitar in this track, exclusive for this single.
Elefant Records single club brings you again one of the freshest sensations in the current Uk pop scene. They will be in the covers of all music weeklies pretty soon, but you can enjoy them now in this wonderful seven inch limited release.
