Another song has arrived from that already famous album that Soleá Morente is making with Guille Milkyway (LA CASA AZUL), and everything is pointing to another leap of faith, a new exploration in unknown territory, another sharp turn in a career called unexpected and improvised globetrotting. After “Vamos A Olvidar” and “Gitana María”, we now have “Mi Vida Es Para Mí”, a song that gives us a sneak peak into the more intimate part of this collaboration. It is also very special for both of them, since it was the first song that wrote together in Guille’s studio, a space where sparks fly every time they get together. On “Mi Vida Es Para Mí” we can clearly recognize Soleá, who shows herself and opens her heart with no hesitation, where she gathers strength to reaffirm herself, where she shows her insecurities with ease (“And it’s funny, all the stupid things you said / That it wasn’t star material at all / Not indie, not pop, not flamenco”), where she looks for that turning point, that support that changes everything. “I feel so empty / And drinking doesn’t work / And Valium fucks me up / I’m going to annihilate the time I wasted / My life is for me”. To do so she uses vertiginous references; “Mi Vida Es Para Mí” navigates between the nebulous terrain of WEYES BLOOD, the sonic confidence of ST. VINCENT, the intimate [ Read more ]

Last year we got “Vamos A Olvidar”, the first single from the album that Soleá Morente is preparing with Guille Milkyway from LA CASA AZUL. Today we are bringing you the second advance single – “Gitana María” is once again a song that breaks all boundaries. The magic and infinite talent of Guille collides with the enormous personality and eternal seduction of Soleá in an exercise in breakstep, with touches of breakbeat and garage full of Gitano sounds, including a tribute to a really old song that the Gitanos of Sacramonte (neighbourhood in the city of Granada) used to sing way back when. It’s another leap of faith, an epic track in dance and emotion, a lysergic trip to the summer of love and nights that never end, a perfect mix of the solid power of Guille and the intense experimentation of Soleá. This new advance confirms that what’s coming in the new album from Soleá is going to be huge, varied and surprising. Once again, it is a departure from her previous work, confirming her chameleonic status as an artist with great curiosity, always in motion.

As we continue to get advances from Soleá Morente’s upcoming album, the one she’s working on together with Guille Milkyway, our prolific artist is filling this empty space for us with a very special single. Two songs, two versions, two challenges and a gorgeous photo by Neelam Khan Vela.

The first song, “Sembré Una Esperanza”, is taken from “Sacromonte” (which recently celebrated its 40th anniversary, in November 2022), one of Soleá’s favorite albums by her father, Enrique Morente. The Granada-born singer already includes this song in her live shows with power and energy, and here she gives us an exquisite elegance, with a magnificent instrumentation with Arabic echoes, and marvelous arrangements and an exotic tone – a mix of flamenco, rock, and Arabian sounds. It’s an amazing surprise, produced by Alonso Díaz of NAPOLEÓN SOLO, with whom she already worked in 2018 on her album “Ole Lorelei” – a very important album in the history of pop in our country, which boasts the excellent production work of Alonso and includes “Baila Conmigo”, one of her most famous songs.

The second song, “Se Acabó” is originally by María Jiménez. It is a version recorded for a documentary about the Sevilla-native singer, produced by LA ESTRELLA DE DAVID and Sergio Pérez, where she brings an agile and sparkly rumba t [ Read more ]

It’s a dream come true. A song straight from the minds of Soleá Morente and Guille Milkyway working together. Two of our brightest stars. And it also means getting into unexplored territory for both of them. Because what if we told you that they dove head first into writing an absolutely irresistible cumbiacategoría And that the song begins like a heartbreaking melodic Italian song with Spanish roots, like a duet between Raphael and Rocío Jurado at the height of the sixtiescategoría And that the chorus takes you to a rumba from LOS AMAYAcategoría And, of course, that it has some flamenco in it too (Soleá’s touch). And sure, it has a certain electronic dance spirit (Guille’s touch). And that the arrangements are just prodigious. And that each second is more surprising and exciting.

Soleá and Guille meet. They look into each other’s eyes. Yes, they have both just been the victims of their separate heartbreaks, and they find in each other the echo of their need to sing their sorrows at the top of their lungs. LAS NEGRIS get the party started with their palmas (traditional flamenco clapping) to this great production and composition from Guille. And the sorrows are blown away; you forgive and forgive yourself. The feeling of excitement about things to come returns. It is a fascinating song that embraces you and makes you dance.

This coming October 20th, the film festival Mostra de Valencia will open with the Valencian film “El Que Sabem”, produced by Pegatum Transmedia and directed by Jordi Núñez, author of the shorts “Píxeles” (with more than 11 million views on streaming), “Amor De Dios” and “Cachitos”. It is a daring generational portrait about a story of first love, acceptance, and forgiveness, dressed up as a hymn to friendship, desire and the youth that slips through our hands. It is a movie in which, according to the people who made it, “music plays a fundamental role in building emotions and feelings, whether it’s to intensify them or to fill them with irony”. A large part of the movie’s soundtrack consists of songs by groups from Elefant Records.

With “Domingos”, an important stage of Soleá Morente’s career comes to a close – the stage of her album “Aurora Y Enrique”. It is a special and inimitable album with a unique trajectory and it is one-of-a-kind on the music scene. For the occasion, we are releasing a Digital Single that comes with a major gift. We opened this singular period with a precious music video by Juanma Carrillo, “Iba A Decírtelo”, followed by the gorgeous introspection that Jonás Trueba showed us with that special audiovisual work where we got to share that moment when Soleá first showed her mother the songs that were included on the album, and that third music video with her sister Estrella, also directed by Juanma Carrillo. And now the circle is closing with a music video directed by none other than Isaki Lacuesta.

Isaki Lacuesta is without a doubt one of the most important Spanish filmmakers right now. He has directed ten feature-length films, the most recent of which, “One Year, One Night” won the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Berlin Festival and will be released this coming fall in theaters in Spain. Based on the terrorist attack at the Bataclan in Paris, the movie is also the cinematic debut of C. TANGANA. Among other awards and recognitions, there are two noteworthy Golden Shells from San Sebastian, for “The Double” and “Between Two Waters” (a continu [ Read more ]

We are continuing that marvelous journey to the childhood and family of Soleá Morente through her tremendous album, “Aurora Y Enrique”, which is now indelibly marked in the minds of thousands. And it’s time to look at that exquisite tribute to her sister Estrella with “El Pañuelo De Estrella”, a song that starts off with synthesizers and dreampop, and moves little by little into flamenco and fusion territory, developing into a delicate, fragile and emotional piece. This Digital Single once again stands out with an excellent audiovisual document, in this case directed by Juanma Carrillo (who has worked before with Soleá, as well as with LA BIEN QUERIDA, LA CASA AZUL, RUSH WEEK …), and which opens with a marvelous shot in an old street, representing two generations of the Morente Carbonell family. The video makes us complicit in a contagious evocation of the past and present of Soleá and Estrella’s relationship (both of whom are of course in the video), in flamenco caves and theatres, in the cobblestone streets. And once again we get goosebumps, and have tears in our eyes, and catch the feeling of being privileged spectators of authentic emotions, unique memories, an unrepeatable moment in time. And we couldn’t be more grateful. Grateful to the Morente Carbonell family. Grateful to Soleá. Grateful for such generosity.

The end of the year is drawing near and with it, one of those events that is a part of the great collective expectations on these special dates: the Christmas Special of the “Cachitos De Hierro Y Cromo” show. As always, it will be full of surprises, this time with a tribute to the unforgettable Raffaella Carrà. One of the surprises this year will be an out-of-this-world collaboration between Soleá Morente and Guille Milkyway (LA CASA AZUL), who have an interpretation of “No Pensar En Ti”. The song was written by Nacho Canut and Carlos Berlanga in the eighties for Raffaella herself. The result, in addition to being aired on the “Cachitos” Christmas Special, will be released in digital format on December 31 at midnight by Elefant. And it is incredible.

The song is a tour de force that begins between pasodoble stylings and casiotones, and winds up with house-disco and vocoders, with Soleá in full-force diva-mode, and Guille playing up his horror-vacui with an absolutely fascinating collection of arrangements, sounds and effects. Pure fantasy. New proof of Soleá’s chameleon-like interpretative capacity and of Guille Milkyway’s infinite imagination as one of the most special and inimitable producers around in recent decades. Enjoy it and… Happy new year, everyone!

It is hard to reinvent yourself again and again. As time passes, it is more and more complicated to satisfy the expectations that have been set. That’s why at a certain point, an artist, the kind with a capital A, needs to forge their own path. Because Soleá Morentehas made an immense album. She already had a reputation for being a chameleon, and now she has taken a turn in a new direction that nobody was expecting. Towards unstable ground, dangerous for a singer of her caste and style. And she did it to talk about what she carries inside her, what we all wanted to know: what it’s like to grow up in a house with Aurora Carbonell and Enrique Morente. And after the strength of an album as powerful as “Lo Que Te Falta”, Soleá now brings us an intimate album, with references to shoegaze and dreampop, echoes of MAZZY STAR and BEACH HOUSE, and to top things off, for the first time, she has written the lyrics and music of each and every song herself. This is HER ALBUM.

Nobody could imagine that Soleá would have sought out a way to express her private thoughts, her deepest confessions, with such sounds. But [ Read more ]

TRACKLIST: 01 Aurora  02 Ayer

The countdown is almost over; “Aurora Y Enrique” is almost here. This is an album that, with the title alone, is already making all of Soleá’s fans tremble with excitement. That’s why this last advance doesn’t only have one song – it has two. And there’s no music video. At least not in the normal sense. Jonás Trueba, the respected Spanish director who is currently riding the wave of success of his recent “Quién Lo Impide” (and whose philosophy has something to do with this document, and who already put Soleá in his movie “The August Virgen”), went to Aurora Carbonell’s house to record the moment when Soleá told her mother what the name of her album was going to be, and when she showed her the first two finished songs: one that is named after her, “Aurora”, and the second, related to it, called “Ayer”.

Jonás himself describes his experience like this: “Soleá asked me if I wanted to do something with “Ayer”, a song that I loved right away; but when I heard “Aurora”, the song that comes before it on the album, I understood that there was a really strong connection between the two songs, the way one melts into the other, and I certainly wasn’t going to be the one to separate them. When we are still savoring the sweetness of that marvelous “Lo Que Te Falta”, its incredible reception by the media and the public (it made it to the cover of Rockdelux and Time Out, was included on the year’s best of lists in media like Efe Eme, the Tribuna, Qualsevol, JNSP… And won album of the year from Rockdelux and El Periódico). What could we expect now from our beloved Soleá Morentecategoría A new, effervescent and exciting union between pop, rock, and flamencocategoría A new mutation with touches of electronica and full of spirití A little bit of all the above, but really nothing like that at all. Because she is unpredictable. Essential. The new songs from Soleá Morente are completely her own; for the first time in her career, she is presenting an album composed entirely on her own. This work, unexpectedly, turned out to be a delicate collection of shoegazing and ambient pop songs, that can make us think of THE CURE as much as of BEACH HOUSE, of Camilo Sesto and Cecilia, of CIGARETTES AFTER SEX and THE WAR ON DRUGS, of COCTEAU TWINS and Sufjan Stevens, but with the unmistakable touch of her voice (which is already a personality trait in and of itself) and that has a knack for those melodies that drink from the great Spanish pop classics of the 70s. Once again, she is breaking ground, exploring unknown territory, shattering expectations, carving out her own path, and letting herself go with the fl [ Read more ]

TRACKLIST: 01 Fin De Año

“Lo Que Te Falta” has been one of the biggest albums of 2020, as we can see by both the public’s and the critical reactions. Soleá has given us a magnificent album, which has helped us get through some hard times, and a good part of the responsibility for this is our own David Rodríguez (LA ESTRELLA DE DAVID, LA BIEN QUERIDA, BEEF, etc.), who wrote some of the songs on the album and who has also been active in his other projects with LA BIEN QUERIDA and Maria Rodés. That’s why they are getting together to bid the year farewell with a very special gift – a cover of a song by ESTRELLA FUGAZ, Lucas Bolaño’s group, who is a regular musician in David’s circle. It is a song originally released in 2019 on the album “Un Sendero Fluorescente”.

This all came about because one day, David himself sent the song to Soleá. “Listen to this song; it is by a friend of mine”. On the bus, on the way to Granada, Soleá listens to the song and totally identifies with that declaration of frustrations and desires that could come from so many musicians and lovers of music. With its ability to be realistic and beautiful and the same time. With the way that the light creeps in bit by bit. But even beyond that, it seemed to tell her own story: “Hacer un viaje lejos / Sola / Para cantar algo nuevo / Publicar otro disco / Y después presentarlo / Que lo e [ Read more ]
