SPEEDMARKET AVENUE are wrapping up the change in direction that their latest Mini-LP, “Goodbye”, has been for their career, more than a year after it was released, with a new single. It is a new, important addition to the list of great break-up albums, like FLEETWOOD MAC’s “Rumors”, Frank Sinatra’s “Watertown”, TREMBLING BLUE STARS’ “Her Handwriting”, and Bob Dylan’s “Blood On The Tracks”.

The song selected for this occasion is “Not This Time”, a brilliant composition that moves back and forth as if debating between its melancholy reverb, its agile, trotting rhythm, and its disarming chorus. With cover art that finishes with the four-color printing process with its faded green, this digital single also includes a previously unreleased track, “Not This Time (Living Through)”. The song has echoes of the most energetic and exciting ARCADE FIRE, but mixed with a certain gloominess as well as an unrepentant energy; it’s the perfect ending that opens the door to whatever comes next, something beyond that tortured break-up, that we also understand to be the beginning of the road toward new musical surprises. Something we are anxiously awaiting from a group as talented as SPEEDMARKET AVENUE when it comes to working different sounds and influences.

What’s more, the release of this digital single comes with its corresponding video-clip. [ Read more ]

In November 2012, we released “Goodbye,” a Mini-LP from one of our favorite Swedish bands, SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, where we could hear Isak Klasson bare his soul after a break-up, along the same lines as FLEETWOOD MAC’s “Rumours”, Frank Sinatra’s “Watertown”, TREMBLING BLUE STARS’ “Her Handwriting”, and Bob Dylan’s “Blood On The Tracks”, but with the clear mark of the band’s identity. Now we’re taking “How I Miss You” from that same Mini-LP and we’re releasing a digital single that keeps the melancholic and sad feeling, stilly influenced by the same creative process, though the title track stands out for its marvelous chorus and the beauty of the guitar arrangements.

Once again, the band makes it clear that their compositional skills are all-terrain, and they aren’t afraid to try any format or style. The two previously-unreleased songs from this single highlight the most devastating and painful part of the process of separation that gave way to this significant stage in the group’s successful career. “A Week Is A Year” is a slow, delicate song, which reflects how painfully slow the passing of time can be when emotions are running high. It’s an evocative song, with pure arrangements and a bittersweet aftertaste. On the other hand, “Saturday I’ll Listen” is one of those heartbreaking songs that can only [ Read more ]

It’s hard to believe, but it has been almost four years since that “Way Better Now” that we enjoyed so much, and that brought SPEEDMARKET AVENUE international recognition, especially in Sweden and England. But those four years weren’t in vain, and our stars have grown, and the group has grown with them. Evolutionary processes and above all Isak Klasson’s emotional break-up with his partner have given shape to this seven-song Mini-LP, “Goodbye”, which is also a break from the group’s musical past. It’s a break-up album in all respects, from the same conceptual school that FLEETWOOD MAC’s “Rumours”, Frank Sinatra’s “Watertown”, TREMBLING BLUE STARS “Her Handwriting”, and Bob Dylan’s “Blood on The Tracks” came from. But it’s simply a conceptual similarity; the music is too different to even compare it to those things. They are a band, which want to break from their chains and leave the past behind them.

There is one thing that hasn’t changed: SPEEDMARKET AVENUE are still capable of sounding personal, different, with no clear comparison, but holding on to their pop spirit and their capacity for marvelous melodies. The difference is that now the artists have grown, the summits are sharper, the peaks all filed to point [ Read more ]

We already announced a few weeks ago that one of the most incredible festivals in the international panorama, the British Indietracks, had decided to pay homage to Elefant Records for their 20th anniversary, letting us organize the main stage in honor of the occasion. So, the line-up is finally, definitely confirmed, and pay attention because the two last-minute confirmations are spectacular: first, STEREO TOTAL, the French-German electro-pop duo and one of the most exciting bands you can see live; and second, the Sunday headliners are TEENAGE FANCLUB. The band of Norman Blake, author of such enduring hymns as “Sparky’s dream” and “The concept”, and of incomparable discs like “Thirteen”, “Grand Prix” and “Bandwagonesque”, will play us a set with their greatest hits that will serve as a culmination of one of the most amazing weeks we could have ever dreamed of. Groups that are also on the confirmed list are CAMERA OBSCURA, AU REVOIR SIMONE, LA CASA AZUL, COOPER, BMX BANDITS, LUCKY SOUL, THE FRANK AND WALTERS, Rose Ellinor Dougall, SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, COLA JET SET, THE SCHOOL, TENDER TRAP, FITNESS FOREVER, Nick Garrie, MODULAR, SUCRETTE and DJ POLAR. ELEFANT RECORDS TURNS 20 [1989-2009]

We’re going to England to celebrate our 20th anniversary at the Indietracks Festival, and the same weekend in Spain the ContemPopranea Festival will also be celebrating our birthday by paying homage to our label!

The Indyspensable festival in Madrid gave us the incredible gift of dedicating an entire day to Elefant this past June 12th, and other festivals like Fuengirola Pop Weekend or Lemon Pop will pay special homage to our label in their next editions of the festivals.

We want to thank everyone for having always been behind us! We feel really happy to have lasted all these years with our philosophy and way of understanding the music world, helping groups that excite us, who are on the sidelines of trends and the industry. None of this would have been possible without the label’s FANS, who have supported us all these years. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

THE INDIETRACKS FESTIVAL (UK) PAYS HOMAGE TO ELEFANT RECORDS FOR THEIR TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY BY GIVING US CONTROL OF THE MAIN STAGE! [JULY 24-25-26, Midland Railway, Butterley – Derbyshire, England]

The British festival Indietracks is paying homage to Elefant Records for our twentieth birthday, giving us control of the organization of the main stage as a present. Indietracks, whose third edition will take place July 24th, 25th and 26th in an old railway station in Butterley (Derbyshire county), has turned into a worldwide, can’t-miss event for fans of the best of indie pop, having brought such bands as Darren Hayman (HEFNER), THE WEEDING PRESENT, COMET GAIN and LOS CAMPESINOS! to previous editions. This year the leap in the festival’s importance and size is considerable, with a total of five stages and an incredible quantity of bands and DJs. That’s why Elefant has been so conscientious (and this is the first time an independent Spanish label organizes a stage at an international festival) to choose unforgettable names, many of which are still unrevealed surprises, including a headliner. Among a mix of bands from the label, friends, and suggestions that we have fallen irrevocably in love with and that have served as an inspiration for Elefant, twenty artists will play on the Elefant stage over the three days of the festival, and here we’re telling you in advance about the first confirmations: CAMERA OBSCURA, AU REVOIR SIMONE, BMX BANDITS, Rose Elinor Dougall, THE FRANK & WALTERS, FITNESS FOREVER, THE SCHOOL, Nick Garrie, LUCKY SOUL, SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, COOPER, LA CASA AZUL (in their only concert this year), COLA JET SET, SUCRETTE, TENDER T [ Read more ]

We’re finally opening our own YouTube channel! There was tons and tons of material to put up (and really, there’s still so much more), and Internet users can finally subscribe to the Elefant Records page on the most famous and visited video website in the world, which can be accessed from this web address: http://www.youtube.com/elefantrecords

For the channel’s official inauguration we’ve put up various new videos, some previously unreleased. You can enjoy the exclusive new video-clip of CORAZON’s “Nuevo Futuro” or SPEEDMARKET’s newest single, “No Drama”, which will be released in July and which we’re releasing the splendid new video-clip of in advance. There are a ton of LA CASA AZUL videos, plus interviews, live videos, reports… but the most exciting thing, for the moment, is definitely the video-clip of the English version of “La Revolution Sexual”. You can also find reports and interviews with COOPER that you most certainly haven’t seen, as well as three songs recorded live for the MySpace special, including the song “Mi Universo”, which is a completely new song not even included on Alex‘s latest work, “Aeropuerto”.

The events that Elefant is organizing to celebrate our 20th anniversary as a record label this 2009 are beginning. And pay attention because this first date is going to have a lot to lure you in with. This coming Friday, March 27th, in the Ocho y Medio club in Madrid, we can enjoy the cocktail of incredible offers that will make the night one of the must deliciously fun nights for everyone there. And we’ve got so many reasons to say that.

The night will begin at 22:00 with the projection of the latest Elefant video-clips. And as if there weren’t already enough reasons to arrive swiftly and promptly, the first 100 people to arrive will be given SPEEDMARKET AVENUE limited edition 7” singles in delicious colored vinyl.

A few days ago we talked about the incredible success of the second album of the Swedish group SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, “Way Better Now”, whose songs have been chosen as single of the week by media and journalists as important as Steve Lamacq (many say he’s John Peel’s successor) or Radio Q (the well-known Q magazine’s radio media). Well, they’ll finally be playing in Madrid on this first spring Friday, confirming their status as one of the most attractive groups from the international indie panorama. Sharing the stage with SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, and opening the show, LES TRES BIEN ENSEMBLE will present the songs from the precious and marvelous second album, “Rougeole”.

And after the concerts there ar [ Read more ]

This Monday, February 16th, the new single from Sweden’s SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, “Enlightenment And Left Wing Indeed”, is being released only in digital format on iTunes. The song has been wonderfully received by the British media. To begin with, it has been named single of the week on Q Radio, the radio station of the world renowned magazine, Q, based primarily online, where people from other important media, like the BBC or Xfm, work. But that’s not all – the song was also chosen, just a few weeks ago, by the prestigious radio DJ from the BBC1, BBC2 and BBC6, and previously a reporter for NME and the discoverer of ELASTICA, Steve Lamacq, to enter on the list of candidates for his Rebel Playlist, competing against bands like SAINT ETIENNE. The renowned journalist had already named “Way Better Now”, the advance single from their album on Elefant, single of the week on his program on the BBC. Definitively, the British radio sector, one of the most important in the whole world, is bowing at the feet of the authors of one of last year’s most addictively agile and exciting pop albums.

Haunted house Of all the groups launched in the past five years, without a doubt, AU REVOIR SIMONE is one of the most refreshing and succulent bands for true pure pop lovers. Restoring once again the spirit of our Singles Club (Club de Single), along with our idea of releasing exclusive singles of our favourite artists, we contacted the Brooklyn trio and enticed them with what you have in your hands, a delicious special edition seven inch vinyl in red, with an exquisite photo on the cover (courtesy of Anna Di Prospero, our favourite Italian photographer) which perfectly depicts the feminine universe of AU REVOIR SIMONE. Their influences include MODEST MOUSE, STEREOLAB, PAVEMENT, THE BEACH BOYS, Björk, BROADCAST, BELLE & SEBASTIAN, GUTHER, LALI PUNA and MS. JOHN SODA. In the autumn of 2003, they formed a group with just keyboards and antique synthesizers.
