For the first delivery of our Singles Club, with which we intend to protect and reinforce such a dearly loved format, we have chosen a very special band. ST CHRISTOPHER is a band internationally renowned, respected and admired, especially in the indie-pop circuit, where their records quickly become cult items, and which owns a broad and exciting career. Therefore, it makes us very proud to have a band of its rank licensing two unreleased tracks for the pleasure of their Spanish fans, putting their touch of class on Elefant Records Singles Club and proving once again their already known love for this format.
This stylist band from York, fronted by Glen Melia, stands since 1984 crafting heartfelt pop melodramas, which have seen the light on such famous labels as Sarah Records or Vinyl Japan, as well as on countless compilations and flexidiscs on fanzines.
On this single, ST CHRISTOPHER offer us two superb songs which strike on the bands distinctive notes: a particular, Spectorish wall of sound, here represented by a temperate, elegant electronic accompaniment, and Glens vocal impact, which as Marc Almond or ECHO & THE BUNNYMEN looks more to the crooners than to indie sound (not in vain he titled one of his first albums under the significant name of "Bacharach", and he has never hidden his devotion for THE WALKER BROTHERS either).
"Young Nun" is a soulful theme, masterly conducted by a very effective, melodic guitar riff, which behind an enveloping music, capable of elevating you to the highest peaks, hides a perverse message.
"With Her In Mind" shows Mr Melia at his best, enhancing an individually gorgeous song with a sincere, moving performance, as in his best moments.
No doubt ST CHRISTOPHER is one of the bands which better express nowadays the feelings of love and the lack of it, most intense emotions and everyday tragedies, soaking it all with precious, unforgettable melodies. An essential record to be proud of, and a jewel on our catalogue.
