Five years ago, they left us longing for so many more songs, with those incredible, fun singles, “Doing Our Part” and “Beverly” (which were put together for a an exclusive-edition CD in Japan). Since then we haven’t heard a lot about THE CARROTS, who have been busy with the countless parallel projects they’ve put together. But suddenly, they’ve finally finished everything up and their first full length, “New Romance”, is here. And with it, the Austin sextet is back to show us their special way of understanding “girl groups” through great songs and marvelous arrangements.

With a line-up solidified by Jason 'Chef' Pittman,Veronica Ortuno, Chris Lyons,Jason Pearson,Shelley McKann and Rose Russo, this album is fresh, with Veronica Ortuno’s versatile voice, capable of carrying songs from the sweetness of Diana Ross to the strength of Dionne Warwick. These past years of waiting have not been in vain, the group has increased their audience in the States, appearing in the media, touring all ove [ Read more ]

Hello Everyone!Another year has passed, a special year for us as we celebrated the 20th anniversary of the label, and we did it the best way we know how: releasing a ton of good music. We put out 22 new releases in total – 13 albums and 9 singles. It was an intense year in every way it could be and a year in which a little bit of everything that can happen, happened. And despite all of the problems that the music world is going through we managed to survive another year and we are full of hope and excitement about 2010.

We are aware of the requests and the things that fans of the label are most worried about and we are working hard on all of it in order to try to have everything organized and updated in the first few months of the new year, so that it is easier to be up to date with everything that’s happening with our groups and our label. We’ve been working on the new Elefant website for the last few weeks, a new website that will maintain a similar design to the old website, but that will be much easier to use, much more intuitive, faster, and clearer. Yes, we are getting rid of Real Audio and you’ll be able to listen to the songs without having a player installed, and you’ll be able to change quickly and simply from the site in Spanish to the site in English from any page. We’re also going to have our new Elefant On-line store with great improvements. We’re closing deals to be able to have the entire catalog available on Spoti [ Read more ]

We’re finally opening our own YouTube channel! There was tons and tons of material to put up (and really, there’s still so much more), and Internet users can finally subscribe to the Elefant Records page on the most famous and visited video website in the world, which can be accessed from this web address: http://www.youtube.com/elefantrecords

For the channel’s official inauguration we’ve put up various new videos, some previously unreleased. You can enjoy the exclusive new video-clip of CORAZON’s “Nuevo Futuro” or SPEEDMARKET’s newest single, “No Drama”, which will be released in July and which we’re releasing the splendid new video-clip of in advance. There are a ton of LA CASA AZUL videos, plus interviews, live videos, reports… but the most exciting thing, for the moment, is definitely the video-clip of the English version of “La Revolution Sexual”. You can also find reports and interviews with COOPER that you most certainly haven’t seen, as well as three songs recorded live for the MySpace special, including the song “Mi Universo”, which is a completely new song not even included on Alex‘s latest work, “Aeropuerto”.

We have more than 100 video-clips from Elefant groups available (yes, all the videos from LA CASA AZUL, COOPER, CAMERA OBSCURA, NOSOTRÄSH, SINGLE, HEAVENLY, LOS FLECHAZOS, LUCKY SOUL, LA BIEN QUERIDA …) and a ton of extra pr [ Read more ]

"Beverly" is the new and incredible release of our idols from Austin. Recorded in the same sessions as their previous release with Eric Wofford in Cacophony Studios, these new tracks will be put out in the typical 50’s and 60’s format: on a vinyl single of four songs, a format that Elefant has always adored and vindicated. "Beverly" is the perfect teenage hymn, with the “pa-ra-pa-pa-pas” being one of the most addictive lines in ages and it also could be the perfect song to dance to on prom night. It’s probably the sharpest and most refined of their songs released to date, with some parts sounding like THE SUPREMES and LUCKY SOUL. "Kissing and Telling" starts out sounding like THE EARLY BROTHERS coming back to give us the gift of their best song ever, but all of a sudden, GIRLFRENDO rings out in the horizon, with their energetic, young and vibrant outbursts. "I Tried to Call You" (a cover of their friend’s band from Austin, BASIC LO-FI) sounds like THE WOULD-BE-GOODS acting out a detective story directed by Al Pacino, while "Gloria" goes hand in hand with BELLE & SEBASTIAN and THE ESSEX GREEN. In conclusion, four songs which should put this band on the map as an example of the product of modernizing a traditional pop sound, basing it all on a hip, mega-vitamin project filled with ungraceful elegance and juvenile imagination. Not very complicated but a lot of song. Some call it inspir [ Read more ]

THE CARROTS is the latest group to be signed to Elefant Records, a six piece group from Austin, Texas which play mega-melodic pop inspired by the girl groups of the sixties like THE SUPREMES, THE ANGELS, THE SHIRELLES and THE SHANGRILA’S. The members also play in other indie groups from their city (VOXTROT, FINALLY PUNK, GENE DEFCON, THE PRIMA DONNAS, and dozens more!). They met in 2005 through an ad placed in myspace by Veronica Ortuno (vocals), who looked for people to play in a group like THE RONETTES, THE COOKIES and THE CRYSTALS. That’s when the six-some became a family  (now with eight members for their live shows) with Jennifer Moore (keyboard and vocals), Chris Lyons (bass), Jason Chef Pittman (drums), Erin Budd (backup vocals) and Stephanie Chan (guitar and backup vocals). After their first performance in South by Southwest (SXSW), one of the most important festivals in the United States, and the recording of their first demos, their existence reached the radar of Elefant Records. Fascinated by their sound and their delicious songs, we decided to immediately sign them. Finally, after a lot of hard work, in 2008 their first single will come out. They survived a very intense 2007 recording with Eric Wofford in Cacophony Studio (a studio where people like Bill Callahan, FRIENDS OF DEAN MARTINEZ, MY MORNING JACKET, OKKERVIL RIVER, SHEARWATER and VOXTROT recorded, among others), which had to be interrupted due to the enormous amount of shows and othe [ Read more ]
