The movie was awarded two Silver Conches, for best actor for Pablo Pineda and best actress for Lola Dueñas.

“Yo, Tambien” has had its first public appearance and it has been a complete critical success. The San Sebastián Film Festival was a shotgun start for a movie that has all its cards pointing to it becoming one of the most interesting independent films of 2010. The film is Álvaro and Antonio’s directorial debut, it is Pablo Pineda’s acting debut, it is also Guille Milkyway’s soundtrack debut and the first important project for our recently created “Elefant Music Supervision”. All of this has only magnified our excitement and celebration about the two Silver Conch awards that the film received in the 57th edition of the San Sebastián Film Festival, for best actor for Pablo Pineda and best actress for Lola Dueñas, both of whom are amazing on the screen, magical in real life and now, thanks to the Festival, a “timeless couple”.

Music plays a very important role in the movie and, as we’ve already announced, Guille Milkyway (LA CASA AZUL) was in charge of the movie’s thematic music and the theme song – a seventies style rumba that is becoming a huge hit on the Internet. The video has been up on Youtube for just two weeks and thanks to word of mouth, the LA CASA AZUL webiste and blogs, the video has had more than 20,000 viewings in record time. But if you still haven& [ Read more ]

YO, TAMBIÉN [a new movie by Álvaro Pastor and Antonio Naharro, starring Lola Dueñas and Pablo Pineda]

The passion we feel for music at Elefant is something logical and evident, but from the start we have also been involved in and collaborated on artistic projects that go beyond the musical realm but that also need music to complete and fill out the work and make it more personal. A few years ago, our passion for the movies brought about the creation of “Elefant Music Supervision”, a project that has taken shape over time, with the goal of helping and collaborating on audiovisual projects of all kinds, offering musical supervision that would help the creators find the perfect music for their work. Shorts, documentaries, movies, commercial spots, television theme songs… we have found ourselves involved, sometimes directly, other times more indirectly, in a ton of national and international audiovisual projects that have used music from our company or projects that we have created with our artists’ exclusive pieces. International television series like “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Desperate Housewives”, “The O.C.”, “Summerland”, “Gilmore Girls”, “Ghost Whisperer”, “Degrassi”, “Chop shop”, “Exes & Ohs”, “One Tree Hill” or the imminent new HBO series “Bored to Death” all use music from Elefant Records on [ Read more ]

We already announced a few weeks ago that one of the most incredible festivals in the international panorama, the British Indietracks, had decided to pay homage to Elefant Records for their 20th anniversary, letting us organize the main stage in honor of the occasion. So, the line-up is finally, definitely confirmed, and pay attention because the two last-minute confirmations are spectacular: first, STEREO TOTAL, the French-German electro-pop duo and one of the most exciting bands you can see live; and second, the Sunday headliners are TEENAGE FANCLUB. The band of Norman Blake, author of such enduring hymns as “Sparky’s dream” and “The concept”, and of incomparable discs like “Thirteen”, “Grand Prix” and “Bandwagonesque”, will play us a set with their greatest hits that will serve as a culmination of one of the most amazing weeks we could have ever dreamed of. Groups that are also on the confirmed list are CAMERA OBSCURA, AU REVOIR SIMONE, LA CASA AZUL, COOPER, BMX BANDITS, LUCKY SOUL, THE FRANK AND WALTERS, Rose Ellinor Dougall, SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, COLA JET SET, THE SCHOOL, TENDER TRAP, FITNESS FOREVER, Nick Garrie, MODULAR, SUCRETTE and DJ POLAR. The indie event of the season, the meeting point for all lovers of the most immediate and refreshing pop, at which there will be dozens of concerts, sessions, workshops, parties… You already know, July 24th to 26th in Butterley (Derbyshire county). The British festival Indietracks is paying homage to Elefant Records for our twentieth birthday, giving us control of the organization of the main stage as a present. Indietracks, whose third edition will take place July 24th, 25th and 26th in an old railway station in Butterley (Derbyshire county), has turned into a worldwide, can’t-miss event for fans of the best of indie pop, having brought such bands as Darren Hayman (HEFNER), THE WEEDING PRESENT, COMET GAIN and LOS CAMPESINOS! to previous editions. This year the leap in the festival’s importance and size is considerable, with a total of five stages and an incredible quantity of bands and DJs. That’s why Elefant has been so conscientious (and this is the first time an independent Spanish label organizes a stage at an international festival) to choose unforgettable names, many of which are still unrevealed surprises, including a headliner. Among a mix of bands from the label, friends, and suggestions that we have fallen irrevocably in love with and that have served as an inspiration for Elefant, twenty artists will play on the Elefant stage over the three days of the festival, and here we’re telling you in advance about the first confirmations: CAMERA OBSCURA, AU REVOIR SIMONE, BMX BANDITS, Rose Elinor Dougall, THE FRANK & WALTERS, FITNESS FOREVER, THE SCHOOL, Nick Garrie, LUCKY SOUL, SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, COOPER, LA CASA AZUL (in their only concert this year), COLA JET SET, SUCRETTE, TENDER T [ Read more ]

We’re finally opening our own YouTube channel! There was tons and tons of material to put up (and really, there’s still so much more), and Internet users can finally subscribe to the Elefant Records page on the most famous and visited video website in the world, which can be accessed from this web address: http://www.youtube.com/elefantrecords

For the channel’s official inauguration we’ve put up various new videos, some previously unreleased. You can enjoy the exclusive new video-clip of CORAZON’s “Nuevo Futuro” or SPEEDMARKET’s newest single, “No Drama”, which will be released in July and which we’re releasing the splendid new video-clip of in advance. There are a ton of LA CASA AZUL videos, plus interviews, live videos, reports… but the most exciting thing, for the moment, is definitely the video-clip of the English version of “La Revolution Sexual”. You can also find reports and interviews with COOPER that you most certainly haven’t seen, as well as three songs recorded live for the MySpace special, including the song “Mi Universo”, which is a completely new song not even included on Alex‘s latest work, “Aeropuerto”.

We have more than 100 video-clips from Elefant groups available (yes, all the videos from LA CASA AZUL, COOPER, CAMERA OBSCURA, NOSOTRÄSH, SINGLE, HEAVENLY, LOS FLECHAZOS, LUCKY SOUL, LA BIEN QUERIDA …) and a ton of extra pr [ Read more ]

The impact THE SCHOOL’s songs are making all over the world is amazing, considering that they haven’t even finished recording their first album, which is set to be released this year with Elefant. If we recently sent you news about their tour with THE BOY LEAST LIKELY TO, and about their inclusion on the prestigious Rough Trade store’s compilation album with the year’s best songs, the Welsh band is news again because their song “Valentine” (one of the two songs included on last year’s debut single, “All I Wanna Do”), has been selected by LG as the soundtrack for their publicity campaign for Television and Internet. Curiously, the object of the campaign is a new and elegant refrigerator called “God”. Blessed be the songs of Liz and the rest of the band!

The Welsh THE SCHOOL continue working out ways to make their debut disc one of the most anxiously awaited of 2009 (if it isn’t already). After having released two marvelous singles with Elefant last year, “All I Wanna Do” and “Let It Slip”, having toured incessantly in the United Kingdom, Spain and Sweden, having recently completed a successful tour of five dates in Italy, having done important radio sessions for some of the most important programs on the BBC and having appeared on innumerable lists as one of the most promising groups of the year, the present is knocking insistently on THE SCHOOL’s door. First, on behalf of the British group THE BOY LEAST LIKELY TO (one of the most important pop bands in the United Kingdom, singled out by such important media as Pitchfork and Rough Trade), who, after including them on their Christmas compilation for the second time (the group releases a list of their favorite Christmas songs every year; last year THE SCHOOL was number 1 with “Kiss You in The Snow” and this year they were back on the list at number 9), THE BOY LEAST LIKELY TO invited them to open for the British tour of their second album, “The Law of The Playground”. Second, as soon as THE SCHOOL finish their tour, they will be going into the studio with Ian Catt (SAINT ETIENNE, TERMBLING BLUE STARS, NOSOTRÄSH) to record what will be their first album, which will be released on Elefant Records this year. They haven’t even released their first full-length yet (it’ll be out this year on Elefant) and THE SCHOOL have still managed to build up enormous expectations. The prestigious chain of stores (and record label) Rough Trade, in their annual best of the year compilation, “Counter Culture ‘08”, released this past January 26th, includes “All I Wanna Do” among its chosen songs, highlighting the Welsh group as “one of the reinventors of indie-pop along with bands like THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART, CRYSTAL STILTS y THE VIVIAN GIRLS”. It’s still incredible the quantity of fans (including the media, other groups, critics…) who affix themselves to the passionate melodies, the precious arrangements and the exciting songs by Liz and the rest of the group, who have been compared to names as diverse as THE SUPREMES, THE SHIRELLES, SATURDAY LOOKS GOOD TO ME or CAMERA OBSCURA. We can’t wait for that full-length!

Let it slip [2008]ER-373 CD-Single Digipak

Only some weeks after letting you know about this amazing new band from Cardiff and their wonderful debut single, “All I wanna do”, now it’s time to confirm the commotion and clamour their songs are creating amongst the music press and 50s girl-group fans. Rough Trade compares them to Kirsty McColl and CAMERA OBSCURA, Hipersonica to BELLE & SEBASTIAN and THE BEACH BOYS, New York newspaper The Village Voice turns them into a magical daydream of THE RONETTES, weblog Parallax View makes them single of the week and Pitchfork considers them relatives to Phil Spector‘s wall of sound. And let’s not forget about the two radio sessions the band has recorded for British BBC: the first one, last February, for Bethan Elfyn‘s show on Radio 1, and their second appearance live on the BBC by mid-March, this time for Marc Riley. After such enthusiastic reactions, we cannot do other than euphorically annouce that their second single, “Let it slip”, has been released. Born from the same sessions that resulted in “All I wanna do”, and with Ian Catt (SAINT ETIENNE, TREMBLING BLUE STARS, NOSOTRÄSH, THE FIELD MICE, SHAMPOO, THE BOO RADLEYS, Kahimi Karie) on production duties, this new single holds four delightful songs: “Let it slip” (which gives the single its name), “I don’t believe in love”, “I want you back” y “Shoulder”. Tracklist: 01. All I wanna do 02. Valentine

It may be possible that you may have never heard of them, but this is totally understandable- they have only played four different concerts since signing to Elefant at the beginning of the summer of 2007. Since then, their live shows have increased in number and the group toured throughout the United Kingdom in October and November with THE LOVES. Skipping about on stages throughout Great Britain, from Scotland to the south of England and of course, London, this group has played on numerous occasions to their fans who come out in the plenty. Before the extensive tour, in September, they entered the studios with producer Ian Catt (SAINT ETIENNE, TREMBLING BLUE STARS, SHAMPOO, THE BOO RADLEYS, Kahimi Karie, THE FIELD MICE) to record two songs which will be a part of their debut single, “All I Wanna Do,” among other songs. This special edition pink vinyl single will be the waiting room for the second single and their posterior LP debut, which will be out at the end of 2008.

The fact is that this group of seven, led by the peppy Liz offers a well-rounded presentation (Amen to the delicious “Kiss You in the Snow” which came out on our holiday single!), where their handwriting marks are above and beyond excellent. More importantly, the pop tunes are filled with emotion. “All I Wanna Do” reminds us of CAMERA OBSCURA and embraces passion with the legacy of Phil Spector, with a chorus filled with moving ro [ Read more ]

Next Saturday the 16th of February, we will celebrate the new year in the venue El Sol in Madrid, as 2008 will be filled with succulent treats with new artists and various releases. This first Elefant party of the year will feature two exceptional groups and a surprise guest DJ and we will dance our socks off as this surely will be a magical night. If all of this is not enough to entice you to come, everyone at the concert will receive their own copy of "Happy New Year 2008", a CD-Single with exclusive songs by HELEN LOVE, CORAZÓN, MY LITTLE AIRPORT and THE SCHOOL.

This party is the perfect way to welcome COLA JET SET to the label- one of the most admired and loved national groups of Spanish pop, known internationally as well by pop lovers from all over the globe. The quintet from Barcelona has already prepared their songs for the imminent album to be released and in no time, they will be in the studio recording. We are all very impatient to hear the new tunes but it will all be possible on February 16th- in Felipe’s own words, "half old stuff, half new stuff."  THE SCHOOL, from Wales, will open up the evening with their love for indie pop and the most brilliant sounds of the 60’s. THE SCHOOL  is much like a British version of sunshine pop – contagious and hyper-melodic- filled with lights and shadows to make you cry dancing. Sophisticated and happy songs with a melancholic twist with inspirations from THE BEACH BOYS, THE [ Read more ]

To celebrate the holidays, we have finally made our long-awaited wish come true by creating a festive holiday single to give away to our mates!

With this single we would like to give thanks to everyone who has helped us througout the years, especially fans of the label, without their help none of this would be imposible. A special single with songs which will make us forget all the hard times and help us ring in the New Year with bells and whistles.

Four songs from the latest signed Elefant artists. The most recent one, THE SCHOOL, a project of 8 restless musicians from Cardiff which put out their first song precisely on this single. Last September, they packed their bags and moved off to London to record, under the guidance of Ian Catt, seven delicious songs which will be put out in two singles at the beginning of the year, a sweet and exquisite carol with a very 50’s holiday pop feel to it. Caitlin and Sauna [they are only 6 years old!], our kids HELEN LOVE show their adoration of Joey Ramone is more alive than ever and continues throughout the generations, they create a snowman out of Joey Ramone and this way, Santa Claus won’t have any problems finding them!! Absolutely adorable! CORAZÓN inspires us with their brilliant, sad and melancholic carol highlighted with rural folk strokes, providing an authentic flavour of Christmas. Carlos and Nando are placing the final touches to their new and highly anticipated album, an album  which includes the prod [ Read more ]

You will be glad that summer’s over: Elefant Records takes you back to school. If you like other bands on the label like CAMERA OBSCURA or LUCKY SOUL, you will surely enjoy this very new British band everybody will be talking about very soon, THE SCHOOL. An adorable band that combines a charming indie-pop spirit with the production tricks they learnt after compulsive listens to the records by Brian Wilson and Phil Spector, fronted by Liz from THE LOVES. Its members are all from Cardiff (Wales), except for drummer Rob, who also plays with THE BOY LEAST LIKELY TO. After only four gigs they have already signed to Elefant, and in september they record their first single, "All I wanna do", produced by Ian Catt (SAINT ETIENNE, TREMBLING BLUE STARS, NOSOTRÄSH). A limited edition vinyl single that will give way to their debut full-length, full with sunshine-pop gems that will make you think about summer when you hear THE SCHOOL.
