We had news about THE YEARNING recently, because of their single “Baby Be Mine”, from their first and marvellous debut Mini-LP, “Jukebox Romance”. With barely time to enjoy such a tasty dish, we have a new menu on our hands, a 10” vinyl (also available in digital format), “Still In Love,” a new Mini-LP where Joe Moore spreads his stylistic wings. This release is even more exciting than the last one, if that’s even possible, and it gives even more solid proof of his incredible abilities as a composer and arranger, with his sights always set on Phil Spector.

THE YEARNING are one of the newest groups to sign to Elefant, where we continue to help give new bands a boost, both national and international ones. They were conceived as a studio project led by Britain’s Joe Moore. Many will compare THE YEARNING to bands like THE SCHOOL or CAMERA OBSCURA, and although there are aesthetic overlaps, there are also substantial differences in the way they conceive music and turn it into something very special of their own. Their sound is lighter, maybe closer to Phil Spector’s wall of sound, and they give it a dreamy tone with accentuated innocence, some of their songs giving off the sense of young romance in a way that owes its debt to Irving Berlin and Brian Wilson. With the delicious voice of Maddie Dobie (only 15 years old) and the collaboration of Justyna Halas (vocals), Gordon Campbell (guitar), Mark Kiff (guitar) and Zoe Illes (cello), they are capable of evoking some of the greatest moments of Motown, somewhere between doo-wop, pop-soul and the classic sixties sound.

This makes us proud to present their first release, a 10” Mini-LP entitled “Jukebox Romance” that really shows the best of all the good things THE YEARNING have to offer: innocent, exciting, hyper-melodic songs. This Mini-LP has A-side that stars three songs extolling the wonder of sweet, young love while the B-side is focused on the more bitter aspects of relationships. So, “You Make Loving’ You Easy” preciously and e [ Read more ]

In the coming days we are going to present the first release from one of Elefant’s newest groups, THE YEARNING. Behind their name lies a studio project led by England’s Joe Moore, with Maddie Dobie on vocals, and with collaborations from Justyna Halas (vocals), Gordon Campbell (guitar), Mark Kiff (guitar), and Zoe Illes (cello). Together, they are capable of evoking some of the greatest moments of Motown, somewhere between doo-wop, pop-soul and the classic sixties sound. To whet your appetites, we’re giving you the first of a collection of three videos, which we will release with a space of about two or three weeks between videos. The videos correspond to three songs from this first release, titled “Jukebox Romance”. The songs are all linked and they tell us a marvelous story.

This first video is for the song that opens the Mini-LP, “You Make Lovin’ You Easy”, and in it we can see a girl walking down the street… We won’t tell you any more about the story, so you can follow it in this and the coming videos that we’ll be releasing soon enough. In the meantime, we’ll let you to enjoy this marvelous song, full of fantastic vocal games in the doo-wop code with echoes of the greats like Dusty Springfield, Blossom Dearie and THE VELVELETTES.
