Here at Elefant Records we want to join in on the Halloween festivities too, and we’re going to do it with a great present. So, as an appetizer for the upcoming album that THE PRIMITIVES are going to release on our label at the beginning of 2012, we’re giving away one THE PRIMITIVES’ song with shady and mysterious motives. “The Witch” is a cover of a song by ADAM AND EVE – the German psychedelic pop duo from the sixties – and THE PRIMITIVES get back some of their goth-garage spirit, with a solid war-like feeling. There are echoes of THE VELVET UNDERGROUND in their phantasmagorical arrangements washed in fuzz and sound effects that evoke HAWKIND’s “Silver Machine”.  It is, without a doubt, a most appropriate song to adequately set the mood for a night of ghosts and goblins, and to add that touch of energy needed for it last a long time.

The band reunited in Coventry, their hometown, at the end of 2009 to pay homage to Steve Dullighan, their original bassist who had recently passed away, and the success of that show and the audience’s great response to it after the band’s 17-year absence from the stage led them to tour Great Britain in April, 2010 (where they headlined at the Indietracks Festival) and to play some shows in Europe and the USA, passing through Spain where they were big-names in the Contempopránea and the Lemon Pop festivals. Next year, the band is releasing a concept cover album, on which they revisit songs from semi-obscure bands from the sixties with women lead singers.  The album will have psychedelia, distortion, soul, extravagances, sunshine pop and many more surprises.

This small, opportune appetizer whets our appetites for new recordings from the people who gave us “Crash”, and which we hope brings us the band that Morrissey was such a fan of, in full form.
