Reseña «A coming of age»

A Coming Of Age – Lucky Soul Album Review

‘The Great Unwanted’, Lucky Soul’s debut 2007 album, is one of the most well played in my collection. So how much was I looking forward to their new showing? I will tell you. ‘A Coming Of Age’ is one of the best indie pop records you will hear this year.

From the opening ‘Woah Billy’ and ‘White Russian Doll’ the tempo and style of the last album is notched up a gear or two, maybe even three. This album certainly blows the "difficult second album" saying completely out the water.
What’s the sound? It’s got hints of Blondie and The Smiths. There’s 60’s Motown and some Country and Western as well. Crikey I’m making it sound like a right mix mash! It’s not, it’s wonderful, it’s pure ‘springtime pop’.
The track ‘A Coming Of Age’ has a real Shadow Puppets feel, strings and underlying melody throughout, it’s simply stunning. Ali Howard’s voice is like silk. The tracks just grab you entice and pull you in, one after the other. ‘Southern Melancholy’ and ‘Our Heart’ have a real Duffy swing. Horns and strings, jazzy pianos, the lot is on here. There are loads of influences, loads going on throughout the album. This group deserves everything.

Glamour, style, essential feel good music. Lucky Soul. Outstanding! Wade in and enjoy.
