TRACKLIST: 01 Razorblades & Honey (Hifi Sean Revision)  02 Razorblades & Honey (Hifi Sean Extended Revision) 03 Razorblades & Honey (Hifi Sean Dub Revision)

“Razorblades & Honey” was a song that our beloved Duglas T Stewart and Anton Newcombe (THE BRIAN JONESTOWN MASSACRE) wrote together on a summer night in Berlin, and which was released on the marvelous “BMX Bandits Forever”. The song celebrated a dark, mysterious pop psychedelia, with a melodic hook that is the trademark of such talented composers. Soon after that, Hifi Sean, obsessed with the song and imagining all of its possibilities, decided to remix it. That’s right, we’re talking about Hifi Sean, one of the original members of BMX BANDITS themselves in 1985, who fronted the world famous THE SOUP DRAGONS, and who not too long ago went back to the front lines of the dance music scene thanks to his collaboration with CRYSTAL WATERS on the song “Testify”.

And from that we got three versions – one is techno-pop that lets the NEW ORDER influences that were already sneaking into the original baseline develop; one is an extended remix, the kind that hypnotizes you while you’re on the dance floor; and one is dub style, once again making the most of that magical baseline, giving it a radically outer-space tone and going head first into the most martial 4×4. You can’t resist moving your feet. And for the [ Read more ]

“Way Of The Wolf” is the new single from that marvelous album that is “BMX Bandits Forever” and that lengthens the life of an album that should be eternal. Duglas and company continue to show their talents when it comes to playing all the styles of pop. From the clear Beatle-esque-ness of the title track (and for which you can enjoy the tremendous video, once again made by Chris Croft), to the disco-pop spirit of “You Justify My Life”, and the Wilson-esque touch of “Can’t Wait ‘Till I Get Home”.

It is precisely the two previously unreleased tracks that reconfirm to what extent Duglas pays attention to these formats that go beyond Long-Play, including songs that could perfectly be a part of the album. Even the emotional weight they carry fits. “You Justify My Life” is a song that Duglas wrote with David Scott for THE PEARLFISHERS and that was released on their album, “The Young Picnickers” (1999) and which the Scotsman now takes into the land of dance music with irony, emotion, and inspiration. “Can't Wait 'Till I Get Home” was co-written in equal parts by Duglas and his loyal squire Stuart Kidd

As Duglas himself said:

"There's a tradition in pop music of songs about lovers who have been separated for some reason anticipating and looking forward to their reunion. They are about the hopes of how they imagine the reunion might be. The listener never find [ Read more ]

Even the most out-of-it people have to know that “BMX Bandits Forever” is one of the best albums in Duglas T Stewart’s 30 year career and that “It’s In Her Eyes” is one of his best songs. The duet between Duglas and Chloe Philip evokes sunny, lively, fun images that could perfectly illustrate a musical starring Dick Van Dyke. That and so much more is why this song is the group’s new single and also their new video.

But more than just the title track, this new digital single also includes two previously unreleased songs. This is proof of Duglas’s current state of grace. “You’re So Fine” is a song by Alex Chilton that has never been released before. Duglas heard it for the first time in the early 90s in a rehearsal space, in a live recording Chilton made with TEENAGE FANCLUB. Giving a studio format to this incredible song with Stuart Kidd and Jamie Gash is one of the greatest tributes to Alex Chilton imaginable.

“Ferdinand’s Cathedral” is a song that imagines the life of the artist (and mailman) Ferdinand Cheval. As Duglas himself says about the creation of this song: “My friend Jowe Head suggested I write a song about an artist and I chose Cheval. Every day, Cheval would walk kilometers and kilometers, delivering mail, and then he would go home to work on the incredible structure that he was building in his garden – Le Palais Ideal. So I took a long walk, as if I was C [ Read more ]

Is it possible that, after more than 30 years in the music business, Duglas T Stewart has, in 2017, made his best albumí It is clear that the element of surprise in albums like “C-86” and “Life Goes On”, or even in their first singles on the label, “53rd and 3rd”, or the 1992 single “Serious Drugs”, now feel very far away. But objectively, the collection of songs included on “BMX Bandits Forever” could be the best thing in their whole discography. Without letting go of their identity, or even of their obsessions and hang-ups.

If you are just arriving here with the whole 30-year career waiting to be discovered, we should remind you of a few things first. BMX BANDITS is the alias of Duglas T Stewart, who before that was in THE PRETTY FLOWERS (is “Sing Street” based on themí), the band he shared with Frances McKee (THE VASELINES), Sean Dickson (THE SOUP DRAGONS) and Norman Blake (TEENAGE FANCLUB, BMX BANDITS). OASIS did their first UK tour dates supporting BMX BANDITS as a favour from Stewart to Creation label boss Alan McGee. Francis MacDonald (TEENAGE FANCLUB, NICE MAN) was a member of the group and Duglas’ right-hand man until 2005.  Kurt Cobain said that if he could play in any other group, it would be in BMX BANDITS. The Guardian says “Britain’s ultimate cult group.” Another major magazine like Q says "Gentle genius." And even with all of that, he has alwa [ Read more ]

“My Girl Midge” is the new single by BMX BANDITS. The song was recorded by Duglas Stewart and David Scott (THE PEARLFISHERS) on August 27th on David's home studio. It is a song about loss and heartbreak but Duglas wanted it to be more than just another sad song. He wanted the song to be filled with the light of love and for it not to be maudlin. Duglas said: "I want people to be able to dance to it and not just to feel its sadness but also the love in it".

One of the stories that made up part of the puzzle that ultimately became that marvelous pop opera called “BMX BANDITS In Space” was the narration of an almost perfect night: a person feels his wounds begin to heal after meeting a girl at a BELLE & SEBASTIAN concert, enjoying the snow in Glasgow, and feeling enough warmth to get through it. “Beautiful Friend” hides real things and things that Duglas T. Stuart wishes were real; maybe that’s why the song has become, after “Listen To Some Music” and “All Around The World”, the newest single from the Scottish band’s latest album. The single will be released by Elefant Records as a limited-edition (only 500 copies) yellow-colored vinyl, and it will come with an excellent video directed, with all the skill that characterizes him, by Chris Croft.

New BMX BANDITS album on Elefant, with the help of : Jim McCulloch (SNOWGOOSE, THE SOUP DRAGONS), Norman Blake (TEENAGE FANCLUB), Sebastian Litmanovich (CINEPLEXX)

BMX BANDITS are putting out a new album on Elefant Records, this time a full-length with totally new material. The sixteenth release from Duglas T Stewart’s group comes surrounded by lots of big news. The first big news is that this new album includes the return of two of BMX BANDITS’ original members, neither of whom have worked with the group since its beginnings, sometime around 1985. Jim McCulloch (SNOWGOOSE, THE SOUP DRAGONS) is not only back in the line-up but also participated intensely in the song-writing process for many of the tracks, and Sean Dickson (THE SOUP DRAGONS) wrote the album’s opening and closing tracks. Second, another regular collaborator who has returned to the fold is the grandiose and ubiquitous Norman Blake (TEENAGE FANCLUB), who plays several instruments and coproduces the captivating “Still”. Finally, what we have here is a kind of space-pop-opera – one of the most magnificent works of art from one of the most charismatic characters in the history of indie pop.

YO, TAMBIÉN [ME TOO]: will compete in the “World Cinema Narrative" category at Sundance Film Festival [USA]

“Yo También (Me Too)” has been selected to participate in the United States at the prestigious Sundance International Film Festival, founded by Robert Redford in 1981. The festival will take place January 21st – 31st, 2010, in Park City, near Salt Lake City, the capital of Utah. According to the announcement, “Yo También (Me Too)”, written and directed by Álvaro Pastor and Antonio Naharro, has been chosen out of over thousands of movies from all over the world and will compete in the “World Cinema Narrative” category with thirteen other films from New Zealand, Iraq, Argentina, Columbia, Estonia, South Korea and Australia, among others. “Yo, Tambien” will begin its American trajectory on the grand scale. The Festival chooses 12 to 16 movies to compete in each of its four category: “US Documentary”, “US Dramatic”, “World Cinema Documentary” and “World Cinema Narrative". The Festival’s programmers chose, from among more than 9,800 movies and documentaries sent for the 2010 edition, “works that take risks and that tell a story in its entirety”. As a result, a total of 113 full-length features from 31 different countries and among them, “Yo Tambien (Me Too)”, a movie and a soundtrack that are already a [ Read more ]

ELEFANT MUSIC SUPERVISION: artistic musical director.

The passion we feel for music at Elefant is something logical and evident, but from the start we have also been involved in and collaborated on artistic projects that go beyond the musical realm but that also need music to complete and fill out the work and make it more personal. A few years ago, our passion for the movies brought about the creation of “Elefant Music Supervision”, a project that has taken shape over time, with the goal of helping and collaborating on audiovisual projects of all kinds, offering musical supervision that would help the creators find the perfect music for their work. Shorts, documentaries, movies, commercial spots, television theme songs… we have found ourselves involved, sometimes directly, other times more indirectly, in a ton of national and international audiovisual projects that have used music from our company or projects that we have created with our artists’ exclusive pieces. The movie was awarded two Silver Conches, for best actor for Pablo Pineda and best actress for Lola Dueñas.

“Yo, Tambien” has had its first public appearance and it has been a complete critical success. The San Sebastián Film Festival was a shotgun start for a movie that has all its cards pointing to it becoming one of the most interesting independent films of 2010. The film is Álvaro and Antonio’s directorial debut, it is Pablo Pineda’s acting debut, it is also Guille Milkyway’s soundtrack debut and the first important project for our recently created “Elefant Music Supervision”. All of this has only magnified our excitement and celebration about the two Silver Conch awards that the film received in the 57th edition of the San Sebastián Film Festival, for best actor for Pablo Pineda and best actress for Lola Dueñas, both of whom are amazing on the screen, magical in real life and now, thanks to the Festival, a “timeless couple”.

Music plays a very important role in the movie and, as we’ve already announced, Guille Milkyway (LA CASA AZUL) was in charge of the movie’s thematic music and the theme song – a seventies style rumba that is becoming a huge hit on the Internet. The video has been up on Youtube for just two weeks and thanks to word of mouth, the LA CASA AZUL webiste and blogs, the video has had more than 20,000 viewings in record time. But if you still haven& [ Read more ]
