It has been a very intense decade, with more than twenty releases. Iván and Eva left behind a successful and immediate project like JUNIPER MOON to throw themselves into an even more elaborate and unique project. The years have passed and have shown that music is their thing. They have toured and released albums in countless countries, received praise from the press all over the world, and in times of an industry-wide crisis, they have managed to grow their fan base in every corner of the world. Because of that, and because of the amount of releases, they have either never been released on vinyl or they are sold out and out of print. And we think that it is a good time to release this compilation, which will close an era for the group (who are already preparing new songs), and which will allow many collectors as w [ Read more ]

The Single that completes LINDA GUILALA’s international trilogy (at least for now) is finally here. After the English label Sonic Cathedral and the German label Dreams Never End, now it is the North American label Test Pattern Records’ turn. They are one of the most well-known shoegaze labels in the world, home to bands like SOFT SCIENCE, FAWNS OF LOVE and DESARIO. And exclusively for them, there are two new songs, where the group’s pop facet explodes, without leaving behind the distortion or the walls of sound.

“Será Más Fácil” reminds us of their best anthems, connecting evocations and insolent punch in the choruses, reminding us of an impossible mix of the earliest songs from SILVANIA, BEACH HOUSE, SECRET SHINE, SLOWDIVE and LOS PLANETAS. “La Inseguridad” even includes a few “parapas” that somehow bring the music closer to STEREOLAB’s concept of pop development, while maintaining the auditory evocation of MY BLOODY VALENTINE or even PALE SAINTS.

At Elefant, we will have a few physical copies of the album, and we will handle the worldwide digital distribution. And of course, just like the previous Singles led them on tours around half of Europe, these new songs will take the Galician trio to the other side of the pond, in the not too far future. Eva, Iván and Mari continue to show us that they are at the highest level of inspiration, with constant releases, no ups and downs, and with the [ Read more ]

LINDA GUILALA continue to expand their discography at surprisingly large strides. Their collection of Singles is already quite considerable. We were recently talking about an exclusive Single for the English label Sonic Cathedral, with the subsequent tour on British soil. Now it’s Germany, specifically the label Dreams Never End (a tribute to the NEW ORDER song), specialized in shoegaze and with only three Singles under its belt so far, that will release the physical version – a limited-edition, yellow-vinyl – of the new Single by Eva, Iván and Mari. Here at Elefant, we will release the digital version of these songs for the rest of the world, so that nobody is left without the possibility of hearing these two hits.

“Agosto” has two previously unreleased tracks. The title-track seems to have wanted to join in on the tribute the label’s name makes, and with that LINDA GUILALA pull out the digital synthesizers, the drum kits and the military tempo for a dark, sad song that turns the typical summer story of unforgettable romance upside down. The B side, “Salga Bien” plays with the same elements but this time stays within the group’s more customary parameters: melancholic ambiance, deep reverb, ferocious guitars building huge walls, hand in hand with keyboards. This release will also come with a few tour dates in Germany, France and Spain.

It is clear that this group based in Galicia is comfortable with t [ Read more ]

LINDA GUILALA is at the top of their game. Beyond the fantastic collection of albums that culminated with the most recent one, the excellent “Psiconáutica”, which is destined to be a classic, they are putting together a collection of absolutely unmissable Singles, that remind us of the golden era of this format in the eighties, when some of any groups’ best songs could be found on these special editions for collectors and music lovers. A few months ago we were talking about “Primavera Negra” and the fantastic “Mucho Mejor”, as a result of the international repercussion they were having, and while we wait for their new full-length, the Galician threesome is putting out a series of exclusive, limited-edition Singles with labels in England, Germany, and the United States. We are definitely not just talking about a period of inspiration, but also of a period of results.

The first of these is “Estado Natural”, which is being released on April 10th, on the British label Sonic Cathedral (GULP, Dean Wareham, Neil Halstead, ECHO LADIES…) as part of a highly exclusive singles club that is releasing a new 7” every month, from February to December 2019. Membership will come with extra artwork and surprises, although a few copies will make it to concerts and even right here, at Elefant’s online store. The limited-edition, red-vinyl Single, with a marvelous cover that touches on the pyschedelic aspects [ Read more ]

We are moving forward with our “Reworked By Series” collection, where two Elefant artists collaborate to give us a very special result. One artist composes and the other reconstructs. This series has produced many curious and passionate challenges like ATTIC LIGHTS and LA CASA AZUL or THE PRIMITIVES and MODULAR. This fourth release is starring LINDA GUILALA and SOFT REGIME. The group residing in Vigo, who already starred in the third release (that time in collaboration with APENINO) put “Mucho Mejor”, one of their best songs, on the table. Pure intensity and emotion, a wall of guitars, psychedelia, shoegazing, kraut rock… The feeling of your feet being lifted off the ground.

Christian Flamm of SOFT REGIME takes the song in the opposite direction. He rescues the melodies from the noise and synthesizes LINDA GUILALA’s analogue sound, resulting in an addictive and disarming synth-pop hit, euphoric at moments and that sometimes seems to let out a few drops of the evocative capacity of the original. And yes, it is going to be played on dance floors everywhere. The colorful lyrics and ambiguity work perfectly with the drum machines and dreamy keyboards. Food for the spirit.

It is absolutely spectacular, the way a composition can mutate, just by changing the hands who handle its tracks and melodies. The “Reworked By Series” is back with more solid proof of this. More than a curiosity, it’s a fantasy. [ Read more ]

Just recently, we were talking about LINDA GUILALA’s new digital single, “Mucho Mejor” and about how excited we were about news about Eva, Iván and Mari. Well, it hasn’t taken long for these kids to “make some noise” (an expression that couldn’t be more appropriate). And, after the amount of traffic the single received from the islands, this coming Tuesday, July 24th, the trio from Galicia is going to do a session on Marc Riley’s program on BBC6. He who was a member of THE FALL, owner of the label In-Tape (ASPHALT RIBBONS, THE JUNE BRIDES, THE CREEPERS), and promoter of groups like MASSIVE ATTACK, PIXIES, COCTEAU TWINS and HAPPY MONDAYS is making LINDA GUILALA the first Spanish group on Elefant Records to record a session for the BBC. On a show that, recently, and to give just a few of the varied examples, has had guests like PARQUET COURTS, THE DAMNED and IRON & WINE. But there are also three important dates for their new British tour. This Wednesday, July 25th, starting at 7 p.m., they will take part in a special concert in the Rough Trade East store, as special selections of the brand in a campaign for the best emerging artists. Other bands like GRIMM GRIMM and ECHO LADIES will also be there.

The next stop is the following day, in CARDIFF, the hometown of many of our favorite groups, like SUPER FURRY ANIMALS, YOUNG MARBLE GIANTS and our beloved THE SCHOOL. The performance will take place at The Moon Cardiff, a [ Read more ]

After the splendor that was “Psiconáutica” and how well it was received, both by the media and the general public, and after the Single “Primavera Negra”, we are desperate to get more news about Eva,Iván and Mari. For the moment they are helping us get over the effects of our specific abstinence with a song that is putting some of the group’s greatest secret weapons on the table.

Because “Mucho Mejor” has ferocious guitars, catchy choruses, psychedelic ambiances, hallucinogenic lyrics and a slippery structure. And finally, strength, emotion, tension and happiness. That’s the thing about great songs: you start off playing them to satisfy your craving, and wind up with an urge to hear something new a thousand times stronger than when you started and playing the song you have two thousand times just to survive, once again. It’s called pleasure.

And if, on top of all this, Magnetova are in charge of the video again, which includes dozens of tributes to so many of the band’s favorite groups (and our favorites, too), we can only say one thing: We want more songs now! [ Read more ]

Almost without a break, making the most of the final stretch of the extensive tour supporting “Psiconáutica” that has taken them through the majority of Spain as well as some European cities and festivals, LINDA GUILALA take their latest step forward with a limited edition vinyl single called “Primavera Negra”. Leaving behind the hits from an album that brought them wide renown both nationally and internationally, this new release from the group formed by Eva, Iván and Mari continues embracing that disconcerting, uneasy wall of sound inherited from MY BLOODY VALENTINE, but here it becomes melancholic and dreamy, far from the urgency that prevailed on their last album.

Primavera Negra, recorded again in Kaiju Studios in Vigo, produced by Eva M and mastered by Xavier Alarcón, draws attention to the personality of a group that is a master of sonic parameters, and who uses them to serve the turbulent emotions they deal with. That disillusionment that is so present in their lyrics is present on this Single, that whirlwind originating in spiritual questions that were also evident in the video for “Abstinencia”. This Single is confirmation that, fortunately, LINDA GUILALA is in enviable, inspirational shape.

A few months ago, we started “Reworked By Series”, Elefant’s new collection of singles, based on the idea that some artists could offer their own vision of songs by other artists on our label. So far, “Reworked By Series” includes revisions of ATTIC LIGHTS by LA CASA AZUL, and THE PRIMITIVES by MODULAR. But what APENINO has just done with LINDA GUILALA transcends our initial idea and has opened the boundaries of the concept of this collection. It’s a more conceptual project that Marco Maril went about obsessively like a personal challenge: reformulate “Psiconáutica”, the most recent album by his Galician friends. That’s why the third release in this series is a full-length format.

We would dare to say that this digital album reminds us at moments more of DAR FUL FUL (the deeply missed project that Marco fronted with Xavi Font) than of APENINO, though in the end, oddly enough, we’re sticking with the fact that the album that reformulated LINDA GUILALA gives us the most complete creative profile of Marco Maril that we’ve ever heard. The patterns we have come to know over the length of his career are there – the ultra-melodic electronic pop (“Cosas Nuevas”) and the electronic landscapes (“Ansiedad” and “Monstruo”) – but new qualities are added here – the epic synth-pop of “Fobia Social I”, the DNTEL- esque clicks’n’pops and [ Read more ]

2016 has been a big year for LINDA GUILALA. Music media like Waves For Masses (Italy), The Blog That Celebrates It Self (Brazil), Indie Rock Mag (France), Platten Vor Gericht (Germany), Sounds Better With Reverb (USA), DKFM (USA), Allmusic (USA) and Louder Than War (UK), to say nothing of the Spanish media like Discogrande, El Caleidoscopio Musical, Ultrasónica, Fantastic Plastic Mag, Mondo Sonoro Galicia and La Merienda, among many others, have named “Psiconáutica” as one of the best albums of 2016, some even putting it at number one. David Gedge (THE WEDDING PRESENT) himself named it as one of his favorites on the British webzine “Velvet Sheep”. These are only some of the highlights we are celebrating with the release of a new digital single taken from the album, in this case starring the song “Abstinencia”, which includes the special collaboration of Marco Maril (APENINO), programming the bass.

On this occasion, the song has a surprising and provocative video: cold and abstract, recorded in a church and full of catholic symbols. This new audio-visual document directed by Javi Camino (Magnetova) is a new reading of one of the most potent songs on the album. It’s disturbing, to say the least. On the B-side, we have a new song, “Mucho Más Joven”, where they make use of their expertise in noise, ambiance, and feedback, preserving marvelous melodies and a chorus that does more than captivate – it h [ Read more ]

We are still sifting through some of the biggest moments from LINDA GUILALA’s new album, “Psiconáutica”, an album spiritually connected in equal parts to MY BLOODY VALENTINE and LOS PLANETAS, full of immediate hits infected with noise and feedback. And now we have “Accidente”, a song that lets us get a glimpse of their most urgent spirit, a link to Iván and Eva’s past in JUNIPER MOON, though the main thing that differentiates them from the ancestors is this: JUNIPER MOON would have made 8 songs in the 42 minutes of this album, whereas LINDA GUILALA, in that same amount of time, have 20. Urgency and noise, psychedelia and ambiance, but above all, melodies.

All of this is clear on this digital single, which will include a previously unreleased track – a cover of “Sé Girasol”, a song that was on the SILVANIA’s first EP, released in 1992, and who were one of the first shoegaze groups that existed in Spain. To top it all off, there is a new video filmed by Javi Camino (Magnetova), where the color filters play and increase the hallucinogenic feeling, but also clash with the realism of the car scrapyard where the action takes place. For sure, this is another dose to help us keep going in the daily grind, with an album that is set up to be an important reference in the history of the noisiest, most enveloping pop.

Seven years have passed between the release of LINDA GUILALA’s debut album, and this new one. They haven’t been silent years, for the record label – there have been numerous singles, EPs, Mini-LPs, as well as other work, like the new theme song for the legendary program on Radio 3, “Disco Grande”, concerts throughout Europe, and the abundant production work that Eva and Iván have done in the Kaiju Studios in Vigo. But now we everything is clear. It was a time for polishing, refining, for preparing, for pampering, for perfecting, for using up every possible drop of inspiration. Because what we have here is a masterpiece. The album. “Psiconáutica”. An electric, hallucinogenic journey – right from the album cover – that ties them (as if they weren’t already) to MY BLOODY VALENTINE, THE JESUS & MARY CHAIN, BEACH HOUSE, SILVANIA, SLOWDIVE, COCTEAU TWINS and LOS PLANETAS.

“Psiconáutica” is ambitious, it’s true, and the album format itself shows it. The album has twenty songs (more than half barely reach the minute mark) and there is barely a second of silence, not even between tracks. The saturation and atmosphere are key, but where, contrary to what it might seem, Eva’s vocals and melodies shine especially bright. As proof, we have songs like “Cosas Nuevas”, “Accidente”, “Fobia Social I” and “La Última Vez (1ª Rec [ Read more ]

“Psiconáutica” is here. More than 7 years have passed since the release of their debut album (during which they released a non-stop parade of Singles, EPs, Mini-LPs, participated in different projects, helped new groups, and did a million other things), and we are finally going to get our hands on what we are warning you in advance is a huge deal. And as proof, we have this advance Digital Single: “Cosas Nuevas”, an anthem and a declaration of intent. A wall of sound, effervescent melodies, hypnotic lyrics (No es todo malo / Lo que habita dentro de mí / También hay agua / Y cosas nuevas que / Pueden hacerme feliz) (It’s not all bad / What lives inside me / There is also water / And new things that / Can make me happy), echoes of LOS PLANETAS, MOGWAI, and MY BLOODY VALENTINE, and above all so much energy and noise condensed into only 2 minutes.

And like every good sonic impact, it comes with an audiovisual accomplice: a video directed by Magnetova’s Javi Camino where psychedelia and impressionism play together in equal parts, where they appeal to an inner world that is sometimes too restricted by logic and reason, and where colors and shapes play a crucial role. Like all things that make a major impact, and all good acts of expression, it can’t be explained with words. Just watch it. Listen to it. Feel it. And wait just a little longer, because “Psiconáutica” will be here soon.

Iván and Eva, in other words, LINDA GUILALA, are in charge of writing what will be the new theme song for the Radio 3 show, Disco Grande, directed by Julio Ruiz. The song is “Girando Otra Vez (Disco Grande)”, which maintains some of the group’s main qualities which were also the trademarks of their most recent full-length, “Xeristar”: it has hypnotic spirals of spacey psychedelia, while continuously repeating the name of the renowned radio show, which has been on the air for more than 35 years. It is an exquisite homage to one of the most powerful references in musical radio in the history of this country.

Meanwhile, the people responsible for “Bucles Infinitos” are currently immersed in recording sessions for what will be their new album, and for which we are anxiously awaiting noisy news.
