No te [ Read more ]

For a while now all the news about Giorgio Tuma came to us in the form of singles and collaborations, with major artists like Malik MooreLaetitia Sadier and Lena Karlsson. Little but at the same time immense songs that make us anxiously await the arrival of a new album from the italian songwriter, after four albums of that evocative, exciting cocktail of psychedelic pop, italian classics, and brazilian music. And the time for this new release will come, specifically in February 2016, when we will finally be able to hear the songs that make up “This Life Denied Me Your Love”. As an advance, we now have “My Last Tears Will Be A Blue Melody”, an advance single and proof of the infinite inspiration of such a wide-reaching author.

Produced and mixed by Matias Tellez (YOUNG DREAMS, RAZIKA, Sondre Lerche, KAKKMADDAFAKKA), this first song has a certain air of the classics and at the same time a certain dreaminess, like what surfaced in the collaboration with Laetitia Sadier (“Anna My Dear”), without ever abandoning the sonic experiments and spacial moments; it is a “tour de force” that brings us to an emotional exaltation full of light and euphoria. Yet another demonstration of imagination and creativity, with a goldsmith’s touch in the arrangements, and total emotional honesty. It’s a sign of something big, something that is a long time coming. In February, we get the final answer.

RECUERDOS QUE OLVIDÉ 006

FAMILY is an immense and mysterious group. “Un Soplo En El Corazón” was love at first listen for so many people, and it awakened our desire to know more about its stars. But only a lucky few of us could talk about their history in EL JOVEN LAGARTO and a prior demo to the album that gave them a definitive place and what would soon be the group’s only album. It’s considered by the media and by fans to be one of the most important and influential allbums in the history of pop music in Spain. We know that many of you have been anxiously awaiting this – so have we – and the time has finally arrived: Elefant Records is going to release FAMILY’s “silver” demo. It will be a 12” vinyl called “Casete”. Because that’s what this album is, a recording that Aramburu and Gametxogoikoetxea made – alone and on cassette – on a four track cassette reel. Dated 1991, it is a faithful reflection of what they were, without buffers, without the refinement that comes from production, with the limitations of their amateurism and the force of their conviction. “Casete” is FAMILY in all its intimacy. And right  along with that scarce-resource spirit is their design, which plays with the original cassette’s spareness without adding after the fact anything that could contaminate its memory. A good part of the value [ Read more ]

It has been a while since we heard any news from them, but they are finally back. They are returning with a few changes in the line-up, and more importantly with a new collection of great pop songs. These are timeless, catchy songs, full of exciting stories and eternal melodies.

All this time, on top of very carefully and lovingly preparing this new album, they have been busy with so many other professional and personal things – especially Felipe, who has been touring non-stop around Spain and Mexico with the triumphant return of LOS FRESONES REBELDES. They began recording the album in 2013 and in this period of time, Ana, Cristina and Joan Pernil have left the group, and other musicians have temporarily formed part of it, like Estel and Anna. But now Felipe is back, and this time Alícia is in charge of the lead vocals, so the current COLA JET SET line-up is Alícia on vocals and guitar, Dani on bass, Felipe on solo guitar and 12-string, Manel on keyboards, Matt on guitar, Ruth on backing vocals and percussion, Toni on drums and Gerard Civat participating as a producer and on backing keyboards.

And even though that and so many other things have happened in these last few months, the group from Barcelona is still just as fresh, their spirit is just as adolescent, and their sensibilities are just as pop. This new album shows it all very clearly, aiming perfectly for immediate hits. The album opens [ Read more ]

Every time we get our hands on a new LOS BONSÁIS release we realize how much we need their songs, like some kind of medicine that gets rid of the routine and the day-to-day, and fills you with joy, freshness, and the desire to live. This time, we have a black, numbered-limited-edition, 7” vinyl Single called “¡Fanzine!”. The title is a sneak peek into the contents of this new work by Nel and Helena. The Single is a tribute in and of itself and it teleports us through time to the golden years of the C-86. There are four covers, adapted to Spanish, all of which are proof of devotion and of a love of music that blend the surprise of the adopted forms with the love of the original song. It opens with nothing less than a “Punks A Tiempo Parcial”, that is a cynical, rough-house translation, as if it could be any other way, of the TV PERSONALITIES’ song, “Part-Time Punks”. The song makes the most of the original’s speedy boost and multiplies its pop spirit with a beyond catchy chorus. The vinyl’s side-A roommate is “Hijo Del Señor”, an appropriation, modified even in name, of THE VASELINES’ “Son Of A Gun”. If the original song combined its innocent and delicious melody with speed and bursts of noise, here we have that powerful riff that showcases one of the strong points of these Asturians: their ferocious [ Read more ]

Por aquel entonces nues [ Read more ]

Marie Merletwas born and raised in Bordeaux, where she maintained a close, continuous relationship with music while she was a film student, playing in various bands and Djing weekly on the local radio station Nova Sauvagine. Everything changed the day she met Laetitia Sadier. At the time, Mariewas involved in a thousand projects: a girl-group doing covers from the sixties, a WASHINGTON DC-styled punk combo, and a few experimental electronic ventures. But when the then-singer of STEREOLAB asked her to join MONADE and they started recording and touring together, there was no turning back. Marie traded Bordeaux for London, where she continued her musical journey as part of electronic duo ZOOEY or with the sweet pop of LISBONNE. In 2013, Marie began recording songs on her own in her London home studio under the moniker IKOCHÉRIE, and the result is this “Dreaming On”, an album mixed with SCHNEIDERTM in Berlin and mastered in Barcelona by Xavier Alarcón.

“Dreaming On” is a special album, for a lot of reasons. First, because of its unmistakable pop sensitivity, which argues intelligently between the sweet and the bitter. This first IKOCHÉRIE album is dedicated to dreaming and how it can be so cathartic and so illusory at the same time, making you travel to unknown worlds while also keeping your feet far from the ground. Second, because it is easy to see the musical culture and baggage of an artist who has already played with so man [ Read more ]

In honor of our twenty-fifth anniversary in 2014, we told you that we were going to celebrate it by re-releasing some of our most representative albums from these first 25 years of Elefant Records, as well as offer some exclusive releases. There will be 25 releases, including a documentary about the label, as well as a book. The re-releases of FAMILY’s “Un Soplo En El Corazón” and LA BIEN QUERIDA’s “Romancero” have already come out, and we’ve also released a very special homage to FAMILY’s legendary album. Now three new releases have arrived from this unique collection that, little by little over the next few years, will be completed.

First, that masterpiece, the beginning of a legend. In October, we are releasing LA CASA AZUL’s first album, “El Sonido Efervescente De La Casa Azul”, again. But we’re not just releasing it, we’re pulling out all the stops: on this double vinyl, we are including all the demos and takes that we included in the previous re-release on CD, and on top of that we’re adding six live songs recorded at a party for the radio program “Viaje A Los Sueños Polares” in Madrid’s Aqualung club in May, 2000. That’s 27 songs total for a really juicy re-release that also celebrates the 15th anniversary of the original release of an album that made so many things happen. In November, we ar [ Read more ]

Since they got started in the winter of 2011, everything has been big news about ALPACA SPORTS. Their indie pop has reached the ears of fans all over the world, from the United States to Japan to Peru, not to mention Spain, England, their native Sweden, and a dozen other countries. Almost all fans of this style have heard about their debut album and the numerous singles they have released over the last few months, with the album covers done by the Japanese illustrator Ray Kimura, or their unforgettable concerts in festivals like New York and Madrid Popfests, and Indietracks. Songs like “He Doesn't Even Like You”, “Just For Fun”, and “Just Like Johnny Marr” have already become a part of the collective memory of recent indie pop, and have made this tremendous young group so loved.

And now for the big news – Elefant Records is releasing “When You Need Me The Most”, the group’s new songs on a blue, 10”, 1000-copy, numbered-limited-edition. Six songs that are another great display of their immediacy, their contagious choruses, and their love for bands like THE SMITHS, ANOTHER SUNNY DAY and BELLE AND SEBASTIAN. It is an “international” album, as its own composers call it, and it makes it clear what an incredible experience ALPACA SPORTS is proving to be for Andreas Jonsson, Amanda Åkerman and Carl Jirestedt. A quick listen to the debut Mini-LP by DIE KATAPULT quickly places this duo in the outskirts of Berlin. The war-like quality of their sound and the roughness would make us think so, but if we pay just a little more attention, there are melodies that don’t fit in so easily with that profile, and there are small sparks of a sonic, acidic, dirty sense of humor that promises that there is something more going on here. If we look at the credits on this this 10”, 500-print limited-edition, white vinyl, we understand the secret of this new New Adventures In Pop release. DIE KATAPULT is a Spanish-Swedish duo based in the Sants neighborhood of Barcelona, formed by Anna Fredriksson (vocals, vocoder, and keyboards, and also of LOS GANGLIOS) and Elena Comas (voice and bass, and also of NELEONARD). And we’ve had to coin a new term to define their music: Mediterranean kraut-pop.

But let’s take this one step at a time, or better said, one song at a time. “Braun” is the color of humbleness, of opening, of KRAFTWERK playing in the background, and why not, of OVIFORMIA SCI making their presence felt in the attitude.

“Schweinsteiger” could jump right onto a STEREO TOTAL album; the lyrics are full of references to Bayern Münich’s midfielder, but above all it has an impressive kraut force, somewhere between bizarre and solemn. “Kristall Reinheit” puts a little twist on things, bathing itself in dub rhythms, and clearing [ Read more ]

Iván and Eva, in other words, LINDA GUILALA, are in charge of writing what will be the new theme song for the Radio 3 show, Disco Grande, directed by Julio Ruiz. The song is “Girando Otra Vez (Disco Grande)”, which maintains some of the group’s main qualities which were also the trademarks of their most recent full-length, “Xeristar”: it has hypnotic spirals of spacey psychedelia, while continuously repeating the name of the renowned radio show, which has been on the air for more than 35 years. It is an exquisite homage to one of the most powerful references in musical radio in the history of this country.

Meanwhile, the people responsible for “Bucles Infinitos” are currently immersed in recording sessions for what will be their new album, and for which we are anxiously awaiting noisy news.
