Después de formar parte de Los Flechazos durante más de una década y de tomarse un par de años sabáticos, Alex Diez puso a andar a Cooper, proyecto “en solitario con banda” de guitarras y pop para el 2000 y en adelante. Cooper ha editado alguno de los discos más emocionantes de pop en español de este siglo, ha actuado por toda España en salas y festivales, ha girado por Alemania y visitado Inglaterra, construyendo una carrera sólida a base de canciones y coherencia. En 2011 se publicó “Mi Universo”, tal vez su mejor disco, que fue presentado en una novedosa gira virtual y que tuvo continuidad con la edición en 2012 del dvd “A propósito de mi universo”. Actualmente, el grupo se encuentra ensayando canciones para un nuevo disco, que grabarán en el mes de mayo.

Hace años, los recuerdos se guardaban en baúles y álbumes de fotos,  almacenados en estanterías y desvanes. Ahora, muchos de nuestros  momentos más importantes los tenemos clasificados en archivos y  carpetas, preservados del polvo y el olvido dentro de nuestro ordenador.  Pero siempre queda la duda de si será suficiente con una copia de  seguridad, así que antes de que el sistema haga crack y la mala suerte  borre los recuerdos, en Ediciones Chelsea hemos decidido pasar a papel  esos “documentos”. 

Susan Sontag cuenta con gran humor, en un ensayo sobre Godard, una  reveladora anécdota sobre la forma de hacer del cineasta francés. En  el Festival de Cannes polemizaba con un compañero de profesión algo  mayor que él y, sin duda, mucho más academicista: “Por lo menos  admitirá, monsieur Godard, que es necesario que sus películas tengan  principio, nudo y desenlace”. Last year, COOPER released their most complete and personal album, “Mi Universo”, and they toured the country extensively, with shows in major summer festivals. Recently, we released a numbered, limited-edition vinyl single with the song “Arizona”, one of the most explosive songs on “Mi Universo”, as the star track on a single that is brilliantly complemented with its B-side “Tu Me Dijiste Adiós”, originally by LOS BRINCOS. But that’s not all – we still have more exciting news about COOPER.

Elefant Records has joined forces with Ediciones Chelsea to release a Double-DVD titled “A Proposito De Mi Universo”. This DVD-Book includes the ten videos from the “Internet Tour” – that virtual tour that COOPER made on different onlne music sites for the release of “Mi Universo.” “A Proposito De Mi Universo” also includes the movie “El Regalo”: with this title, borrowed from the softest and most intimate song on the album, the movie-maker Juan Marigorta gives us a documentary, over 80 minutes long, in which he dives into the secrets of the recording of “Mi Universo,” showing us surprising facets of the group “in action”, as well as hidden corners of the legendary Konk Studios, where what many consider to be COOPER’s best album was recorded. After “Cortometraje”, the last single taken from that marvelous and personal album, “Mi Universo”, Alex Díez is releasing a new 500-copy-limited-edition vinyl single. This time the featured song is “Arizona”, one of the more agile and energetic songs of the aforementioned album, where you can hear those delicious, brilliant sounds they were able to get out of their recording sessions in the Konk Studios in London – those very same studios founded in the early 70s by Dave and Ray Davies (THE KINKS) where groups and artists like BLUR, Elvis Costello, THE ARCTIC MONKEYS, SUEDE and SPIRITUALIZED have recorded.  This single is backed by a delicious B-side: a cover of “Tú Me Dijiste Adios”, originally by LOS BRINCOS, which COOPER takes into their own territory with ease, maintaining the sweetness and melodic skill of the renowned Spanish group from the sixties, but propelling it with a light dose of electric vitamins.

Alex Díez is keeping up his frenetic activity as a mod-pop scene activist: concerts, DJ sessions around Europe (recently we spread the word about his session with Le Mans), new projects we’ll soon be telling you about, and in the midst of all this, he gives us another marvelous album which will definitely

The trajectory of Alex Díez as the front man of LOS FLECHAZOS and COOPER is not the only artistic activity for which he has received international renown. Mod icon, music lover and expert with a wild and irresistible knowledge of pop culture, his figure transgresses his facet as composer, turning mod music and the sixties esthetic into a life philosophy, a way of understanding the world.

All of this has achieved collaborations and participation in events, books, exhibits, etc. for him, and he was just invited to participate in an ode to mod music, which will take place on the 6th, 7th, and 8th of July on the Le Mans tour circuit where, for three days, and over the course of 24 hours, this music will be honored and homaged with 8 DJs from all over the world, among whom will be our beloved man from Leon. “Le Mans Classic Goes Mod” will be an imperative event for all lovers of sixties culture, which will include performances by PONY TAYLOR and THE BLUES FLAME, and sessions from other connoisseurs from France, Belgium, and the UK, among other countries. It is a new stroke of luck for us to be able to enjoy one of the greatest references and experts of mod culture of our times.

IN A BALLON WITH COOPER

Go up in a hot-air balloon with Cooper and discover their Universe from the sky.

To celebrate the end of their “Mi Universo” tour and the beginning of the summer festival season, ELEFANT RECORDS and COOPER have joined forces to organize a really special concert for all of the group’s fans.

TO PARTICIPATE:Go to the group’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/cooper.mi.universo), click the “I like” button and leave a message that includes the word BALLOON on their wall, and tell us what your all-time favorite Cooper concert has been. You have until midnight on June 19th to participate. 

THE PRIZE:Cooper performs on June 29th at the Fiestas de San Juan and San Pedro de León (11:00 p.m., Plaza Mayor). The winner of the drawing will travel to León and accompany the group to the concert; the winner will also have backstage access and will be able to watch the concert from onstage. The next day, the winner will go up in a hot air balloon with Alex Cooper. The balloon will take off from San Marcos Square and will travel around León´s sky, flying in silence among the white clouds. First there was the virtual tour that everyone had so much to say about how original and unique it was in our country, a tour that introduced the songs from COOPER’s new album, “Mi Universo”, leaking it out day by day via different online media. Now the moment has arrived to step up to the plate, because the national tour for Alex Díez and company is beginning, with almost twenty dates confirmed so far, as well as shows in some of our country’s most prestigious festivals, like the FIB [Festival de Benicassim] and the ContemPopranea, among others.

One of the best pieces (some say the best) of Alex’s career needs an appropriate coming out party. The songs are more autobiographical than ever before, and they were recorded at the Konk Studios in London – the studios that were founded in the early 70s by Dave and Ray Davies (THE KINKS), and where artists like BLUR, Elvis Costello, THE ARCTIC MONKEYS, SUEDE, SPIRITUALIZED, and of course, THE KINKS themselves have recorded, among many others. Song: Los Chicos Hoy Saltarán A La Pista (LA CASA AZUL)

It took many months of work but we can finally announce, with much joy and satisfaction, the release of “L-FUN 45 (Summer of love)”, the first independent musical videogame for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, a fun application that will get all of the label’s fans excited. The videogame is full of the Elefant universe and our groups. It was created and developed by Dolores Entertainment, a young and promising company that develops mobile phone applications and videogames, and that shares Elefant’s spirit of independent work and passion for music. Dolores Entertainment, who recently celebrated their first anniversary as a company, started their voyage with more classic-styled games with a more direct dynamic, like “Vectron” or “Spanish Chiringuito”. Now, they are official providers for TV3 and they are working on some different, very interesting projects that we’ll be hearing about soon, but L-FUN 45 is their most ambitious project so far.

L-FUN 45 is an interactive musical, a game where the music isn’t just an excuse to smash buttons, but instead it tells us a love story. The love story begins with a break-up, and includes friendship and summertime adventures. We are not, now that we’ve come this far, going to stop talking about Alex Díez’s incredible career, neither as the frontman of COOPER nor of the legendary LOS FLECHAZOS. His voice, his style, his character, everything that surrounds his legend, are still there and will continue to be, for everyone who is lucky enough to enjoy them. We are celebrating all of this, because we finally have what we were waiting for, a new collection of songs in a new, full-length album.

And COOPER’s songs speak for themselves; they speak about the mood and the situation of their author, and they transmit all of this in a magical and tremendously exciting way. But this time more than ever, it all comes together. Because “Mi universo” is probably Alex’s most personal album, and even the title is telling us so. The recording process was done with the greatest attention to every detail, in the legendary Konk Studios in London, which were founded at the beginning of 70s by Dave and Ray Davies (THE KINKS). Artists like BLUR, THE STONE ROSES, THE ARCTIC MONKEYS, SUEDE, SPIRITUALIZED, THE CHARLATANS, Elvis Costello, THE BEE GEES and, of course, THE KINKS themselves have recorded in there. For the closer, “Carrousel” is a revelation, musically speaking, within Alex Díez’s career; at moments it approaches THE STONE ROSES, with urgent, angry guitar arrangements. The structure is complex, constantly changing, with a high intensity levels right off the bat and a complete ecstasy that closes “Mi universe” on a high note. It also has dark lyrics, as dark as we’ve seen from the man who once fronted LOS FLECHAZOS, reaching the point of even being disturbing: “Desde ayer ya no brilla el sol / Pues su luz se diluye en tus lamentos / Desde ayer se apagó mi voz / Y no sé liberarte de este infierno / … /  Y gira el carousel por última vez” (The sun hasn’t shone since yesterday / because its lights is darkened by your sorrows / My voice has been silenced since yesterday / And I don’t know how to get you out of this hell /…/ And the carousel spins one last time)..
