MARINITA PRECARIA’s album, “Un Vaso De Agua” is so close to being here, but until then, we can enjoy a new advance single. “Fantasmas” is a surprisingly exuberant song that uses a kind of hyper-pop as a vehicle to move between danceable and more introspective rhythms, with calypso and personal, top-notch electronic pop. With the sonic sensibilities of FAMILY, the imagination of Cecilia, and the personality of VAINICA DOBLE, Marina Gómez once again shows us that she is one of the greatest promises of Spanish pop, capable of building surprising songs that feel intimate to each listener and talk about universal feelings with words that have never been used to describe them before. Just look at the chorus of “Fantasmas”: “Si salgo de fiesta / Me acuerdo de ti / Me has llenao la casa entera de fantasmas / Y ahora te da miedo venir / Duermen conmigo en el salón / Ya no tiene solución / Viven aburridos / Verme es un castigo / Ven y pídeles perdón” (If I go out / I think of you / You’ve filled my house full of ghosts / And now you’re afraid to come over / They sleep with me in the living room / Nothing can be done / They’re bored / Watching me is punishment / Come and tell them you’re sorry). What else can we saycategoría She knows exactly how to say it and is the master of that emotion.

Every new song from NOS MIRAN is a new question mark. What Sergio Rodríguez and Marta Quintanabring us is something with more questions than answers, something that leaves a hole in our hearts that each of us fills with what suits us best. They do this while dressing the music up as dance music that helps you run away from your problems, as if all the answers to all of life’s questions could be found on the dance floor. “La Torre” is the third advance single for what will be their third album, and the metaphor could work perfectly as the embodiment of the group’s discourse: the loneliness that comes from facing the anguish of not having a purpose in life, and how to handle the avalanche of feelings that comes from being alive. That tower is a kind of protection, a mask: “Desde que me dejaste, bailo sola / Con mi reflejo y a nadie dejo entrar / En mi torre no estoy tan mal” (Since you left, I dance alone / With my reflection and I don’t let anyone in / In my tower it’s not so bad). The best part is that we are probably listening to the most musically luminous chorus yet. NOS MIRAN are that enigma that we don’t want to stop figuring out.

AMOR BUTANO continue with their prolific and incomparable activity. They’re back this time with a new Digital Single called “Apocalipsis”. It is an exercise in electro-pop with Italo-disco echoes that talks about losing sight of reality from excessive use of social networks and how people lose their minds and turn into psychopaths. That psychopathy is clear in the amazing music video by Javier Artigas, where friends are “murdered”, which is a simile for how we go crazy because of social networks and distance ourselves from our loved ones, and where the screen takes on a life of its own. The black light is the star in an apartment full of phosphorescent paintings that work as the stage for a frenetic song and that, once again, promises huge moments on the dance floor. Until the end of the world.

There is no question that we are in the midst of a marvelous moment for AXOLOTES MEXICANOS. Olaya’s supergroup has recently released an incredible album, “4ever”, which after 10 years of the band’s career, is just as powerful and fresh as ever. We are celebrating this opportunity by rereleasing their first two albums, which have been sold out since forever ago. First, we have “Holi <3”, their 10” Mini-LP (released 2 years after their debut single “Infectados”), a gem that originally came out on white vinyl and that now we are bringing you in pink. This is the album that made all the qualities we love so much about that band clear: their love of J-Pop and Asian culture, their punk, unbiased attitude. Then, we’re also rereleasing their first album, “Salu2”, which shared the concept for the album cover with the previous one, and where we talked non-stop about HELEN LOVE, JUNIPER MOON, but also about KERO KERO BONITO and TOFUBEATS. It is an unfathomable, unpredictable spectrum of styles, and they are not afraid of playing with digital sounds or with guitars, and they created a space for a countless number of groups that came after them.

These albums have been objects of desire for hunters of out-of-print gems for a long time, and we will finally be able to enjoy these songs on vinyl.

Some albums are a big deal every time they are reissued. Every time we bring back a LA CASA AZUL release, looking back at how Guille Milkyway’s career has developed, and what an incredible and multifaceted artist he has become, it is even more exciting to enjoy his first steps. That’s why we are rereleasing his first two albums again, with the attention to detail and affection that define Elefant Records editions.

First, we are bringing back that Double-LP that we released for the label’s 25th anniversary, that included not only that marvelous first Mini-LP, “El Sonido Efervescente De La Casa Azul”, but also an incredible collection of demos, previously unreleased tracks, and the live songs from the “Viaje A Los Sueños Polares” radio program’s party in May of 2000. The double vinyl is sky blue colour for the occasion. That incredible album that includes hits that are already timeless classics like “Cerca De Shibuya”, “Galletas” and “Chicle Cosmos”.

But we’re not stopping there. We are also rereleasing “Tan Simple Como El Amor”, with a gatefold cover (fold-out like the original), and in red vinyl, because red is the color of love. The album that came before the explosion, with gems like “Superguay”, “C’est Fini”, “En Noches Como La De Hoy” and “Como Un Fan”, and where Guille made it perfectly clear what [ Read more ]

When THE PRIMITIVES got back together in 2009 to pay tribute to their late bass player, Steve Dullaghan, that new story that everyone had been dreaming of began. Those of us who were fans of their first three albums, written between the late eighties and the early nineties, couldn’t believe that we would get to see them perform again, and that we would get to enjoy new releases from Tracy Tracy’s band. For Elefant, it was unforgettable that the band itself chose us to release their new songs for the whole world; they were one of the most important groups in our lives and that’s why we want to celebrate the tenth anniversary of “Spin-O-Rama” with a very special release.

It’s special because it will include three extra tracks – the two B-sides of the two singles that came out before the album was released (the cover version of “Up So High” from THE WHAT’S NEW and “Always Coming Back”) and an acoustic, previously unreleased version of the title track, “Spin-O-Rama”. But it doesn’t stop there! The cover of this new vinyl edition will have different colors than the original. The album that came out in 2014 had different album cover colors for the CD and LP, and for this rerelease we are recovering the original red tones of the CD, and the vinyl will of course be red. How wonderful to be able to enjoy THE PRIMITIVES’ songs again on such a special release.

Just a few weeks ago we were enjoying the start of a new era for LISASINSON with “Salgo A La Calle”. Now we are here with the confirmation that this new era is going to be important. We have the recognizable energy and strength here, but we also see an extra level of power, of solidness in the sound, of lyrics that look a little deeper. It’s a song about the need to run away, about the stupid things we see through the window, about that absurd feeling that sometimes takes over when we see the society we live in. More than anything, we love to hear those great, epic choruses, the feeling of wanting to sing their songs, of those counterpoints that come with the bridges, the piano overture… Here at Elefant Records, in these decades we have been operating, we recognize that one of the things we like the most is when we see groups grow, challenge themselves, find new goals. And it is LISASINSON’s time right now.

The vocals, bass and guitars were recorded again with Marc Fernández in Lluerna studios. Drums were recorded by Rodrigo Hernández, mixing was done by Antoni LagunaJuanjo Muñoz did the mastering at Catmastering and Marc Fernández was in charge of production.

The productions Diego Ferrando puts together are just incredible. For those of us who feel a bit like orphans in the absence of songs like the first ones from groups like OMD, THE HUMAN LEAGUE, MADONNA or MECANO, getting new things from AMOR BUTANO gives us a deep sense of relief and helps us control the nostalgia. The perfection in the way they build sounds and textures, melodies, the vocals by Raquel Goterris and Sara Alegre and arrangements, that legion of synthesizers… “Te Noto Cambiada”, their latest EP, is all of this elevated to the highest power. “Mágica”, the advance single, already made it clear what we were in for (fascinating lyrics, powerful bases, eighties-loving synthesizers and totally delicious, catchy choruses). But “Slam Dunk” (yes, like the legendary 90’s anime show about basketball), with that Steve Winwood style guitar and that energy somewhere between BANANARAMA and OBJETIVO BIRMANIA, really blows us away. Just like what happened when we heard BERLIN’s “Take My Breath Away” from “Top Gun”, and what happens again with this “L’Enfant” that closes this release, a low RPM delicacy to talk about an adult’s conversation with their inner child. This child asks why everything has changed so much and wants to get back to the way things were, like in “The Neverending Story”, because the adult is losing their essence. We have left the beginning [ Read more ]

You could think that LISASINSON’s frenetic activity had led to Míriam’s solo project, LABORDE, taking a break, but really all of that activity was what let her get back to it. This new single, “No Vull”, started with guitars and has slowly taken the shape Míriam feels so comfortable with. Written together with Dani Martínez, “No Vull” is the first song LABORDE has written in her native language, Valenciano. The song is about that moment when you are starting to get to know someone and everything is new and you feel like your floating on a cloud. It’s an exercise in danceable hyperpop with an epic europop chorus and maximum feeling, with one eye on great contemporary artists like MushkaaVen’nusSandra Monfort and Ariox. As proof of this transition, this single comes with an acoustic version of “No Vull”, more delicate and intimate, closer and more emotional, and a music video directed by Polígono that is pure expressionism, a panoramic image of colors, lights and shadows, with Míriam at the center. Our star is overflowing with creativity right now. Let’s enjoy it.

AXOLOTES MEXICANOS have been around for over ten years now. When this adventure started everyone knew for sure they were going to mark the identity of a generation of music. They are capable of bringing together in one single song so many different influences – J-Pop, manga, the most disturbing punk, horror films… They represented the voice of a small majority restless, slippery spirits hungry for life and electricity. After all this time and several singles, a Mini-LP and three albums (including this “4ever” that we are introducing here), they are a super-group. The members have all developed diverse projects that have influenced the different sounds and scenes of the national panorama. Hold on tight because there are twists and turns: CAROLINA DURANTE, CONFETI DE ODIO, TEMERARIO MARIO, Stephen Please, NO FUCKS… But above all they are what they are because they have a frontwoman as unique and inimitable as Olaya Pedrayes. All of this, together with their personal sound, makes us think of them as a gi [ Read more ]

With the third full-length from AXOLOTES MEXICANOS about to be released, we are bringing you this last advance single – the third after “Amarre” and “Himawari”. It’s one of those singles that gives you a bit of a chill just to say its name, because AIKO EL GRUPO has joined forces with AXOLOTES MEXICANOS to bring us this gift that is “ROSAS y ESPINAS”, a banquet for the ears of the most savage of punk-pop fans and for wild moshing. That is just what we see in the music video directed by Gómez Selva (LOS CHIVATOS): Olaya, Juan, Mario, Stephen y Lucas unleashing their powerful energy when Teresa, Lara and Bárbara invade the stage. From then on its an explosion, rage, release, horror movies and that last “spiritual” shot that we don’t want to spoil. See it for yourselves. It’s quite an adventure. Two groups that are known for their carefree spirit, their untamed electricity, their “radically assertive” lyrics. A coming together like this had to lead to another crazy electric storm.

LISASINSON a blowing through stages like sacks of gunpowder. “Un Año De Cambios” marked the decisions and the path for the duo to definitively establish their concept and line-up, culminating in a successful tour in Mexico, in addition to multiple dates all over Spain, festivals, television appearances, excellent reviews and so many really special moments.

“Salgo A La Calle” is the beginning of a new era, where they give us a glimpse of a more mature sound, just as energetic, a bit less urgent in this first single (although the bpm is still high), more melodic, where the pieces start to fall perfectly into place and where the lyrics go one step further and the songwriting is more convincing than ever.

The thing is, “Salgo A La Calle” begins with a solid bass, as if Simon Gallup (THE CURE) had gotten a group together with DRY CLEANING or COACH PARTY. It’s a tour de force that begins with a contained, agile, danceable tension that builds up with one of those choruses that needs to be shouted, and ends in an epic explosion, the kind that makes the voltage seep in through every pore. But Míriam’s lyrics are an invitation, with two different layers of interpretation that complement each other perfectly: “I wrote it in a period of reflection about myself and about everything I have been going through these past few years and the truth is that the lyrics came from somewhere deep within m [ Read more ]

Another song has arrived from that already famous album that Soleá Morente is making with Guille Milkyway (LA CASA AZUL), and everything is pointing to another leap of faith, a new exploration in unknown territory, another sharp turn in a career called unexpected and improvised globetrotting. After “Vamos A Olvidar” and “Gitana María”, we now have “Mi Vida Es Para Mí”, a song that gives us a sneak peak into the more intimate part of this collaboration. It is also very special for both of them, since it was the first song that wrote together in Guille’s studio, a space where sparks fly every time they get together. On “Mi Vida Es Para Mí” we can clearly recognize Soleá, who shows herself and opens her heart with no hesitation, where she gathers strength to reaffirm herself, where she shows her insecurities with ease (“And it’s funny, all the stupid things you said / That it wasn’t star material at all / Not indie, not pop, not flamenco”), where she looks for that turning point, that support that changes everything. “I feel so empty / And drinking doesn’t work / And Valium fucks me up / I’m going to annihilate the time I wasted / My life is for me”. To do so she uses vertiginous references; “Mi Vida Es Para Mí” navigates between the nebulous terrain of WEYES BLOOD, the sonic confidence of ST. VINCENT, the intimate [ Read more ]

It’s almost here. After “Amarre”, AXOLOTES MEXICANOS are back with another advance single from their imminent new album “4ever”. And look out, because “Himawari” is one of those fascinating shifts from AXOLOTES, since this new song has some of the Shibuya-kei sound from the early 2000s, touches of rumba, echoes of anime intro and a luminous and catchy melody. Its freshness becomes something brilliant and sing-songy with Juan’s production work, and mixed with Olaya’s clever lyrics it rounds out into an unquestionable, danceable, unbiased, very liberating hit. “Ojalá no viviera en un piso interior / Me olvidaría de tus dramas mirando por el balcón” (If only I lived in an apartment that didn’t have views of the street / I’d forget about your dramas looking out over the balcony). That’s how it goes. Get ready because AXOLOTES MEXICANOS new album is shaping up to be something special.
