They are one of the more personal projects to come out of Madrid in a long time. Somehow, they are the heirs to that tradition of mixing risk, vanguard sound and pop melodies, with a taste for a specific esthetic and an artistic spirit that has marked bands like KRAFTWERK, THE RESIDENTS, STEREOLAB, OVIFORMIA SCI, Björk, PORTISHEAD, Ela Minus, DÉCIMA VÍCTIMA, Arca and so many others. That’s why we wanted their debut album to have a physical release in line with the esthetic and musical content. INTERROGACIÓN AMOR’s first album, “vómito y mariposas”, came out on September 16, 2020, when they were still a quartet formed by Yolanda Martín, Daniel Salgado, Carlos Martínez and Javier Sanz. One year later, the project has taken a turn, with just Carlos and Javier on board, and the end of the era confirmed with the release of “mariposas y vómito”, an album that is a sort of reaction to the original, where all of the songs from the original are revised with the help of special guests like SHEGO, DANI, Valdivia, LISASINSON and GINEBRAS. But the original was one of the albums that we have most listened to since it came out, here at Elefant Records. It is the embodiment of a cult album, and that’s why, a year after its digital release, we are releasing this marvelous collection as a precious transparent, limited-edition, 10” vinyl. But let’s [ Read more ]

Last year, “vómito y mariposas” was released – the debut album by on of the most promising bands on the national scene, INTERROGACIÓN AMOR. We are releasing this album on vinyl now, just one year after its official release. At the beginning of 2021, the band simplified its format to just Carlos Martínez and Javier Sanz in charge, leaving behind an album that is destined to be an object of worship. Far from moving on, 2021 is bringing us a new INTERROGACIÓN AMOR album, although from a very special lens: this is a revision of the songs that comprised that first step, with the collaboration of some very special travel companions who dress the songs up in radically new ways. The result is surprising. Each song goes in a new direction, many thanks to Carlos Martínez getting involved in the production work. It is a very special way to end an era and celebrate the first anniversary of the release of “vómito y mariposas” – with this revision, with special guests, that will be released in digital format with the title “mariposas y vómito”, and with that limited edition transparent 10&rdqu [ Read more ]

Since that marvelous album from THE LAST DETAIL came out, the magical collaboration between Mehdi Zannad (FUGU) and Erin Moran (A GIRL CALLED EDDY) – the latter, released an incredible album after years of silence in her solo career, which put her name back on the tip of half the world’s tongues. But there were still some loose ends. Which we want to finally be tied up. “I’m Sorry” is one of those ends. It is a song that was recorded in Paris more than 10 years ago, but which the protagonists didn’t feel was ready to release, and they weren’t even sure which of the two of them was going to sing it. With the help of Julian Simmons (Ed SheeranLiam Gallagher) and the infallible participation of the SKOPJE STRING ORCHESTRA, they were finally able to do what they had wanted to. It is an immense song, moving between the delicacy of the verse to the magnificence of the chorus, full of strings, somewhere between northern soul and their beloved Todd Rundgren. It is new proof of the exquisiteness, the elegance and the emotion this duet who has been touched with the wand of inspiration can achieve.

To illustrate the song, we have a video from our beloved Santi Capuz with a veiled tribute to “Paris, Texas”, where the actress Anna Coll travels across the desert, from Madrid to Almería, fleeing from the prison of a relationship full of unkept promises and unrepent [ Read more ]

Dani and Javi continue their frenetic activity. After releasing that magnificent 10” Mini-LP and several Digital Singles in less than a year, they are back with a new digital release: “La Conversación”. The song that gives us a sneak peak at the paths their new compositions will take, on the way to their second album. Guitars take on greater protagonism, along with atmospheric synthesizers that mark the melodies that are as addictive as ever, and those trademark lyrics about everyday relationships and related frustrations and collateral damages. “La Conversación” talks about seeing someone with whom you used to share your life with at some point in time, but who is no longer a part of it: nerves, insecurities, but above all, certainty. What happened then won’t happen again. Just over two minutes. Straight to the heart 🙁

To go with the release, we have a dark, disturbing lyric video full of eighties-style textures and fonts. It was directed by Iván Alarcón (who co-directed the video for EVRIPIDIS AND HIS TRAGEDIES’ “Melancholia”), who in addition to directing is a regular in charge of wardrobe and costume design, be it for indie groups like EL BUEN HIJO, TRONCO, NOVEDADES CARMINHA or for CHAVALES themselves, as well as for mainstream artists like Dua Lipa, C. TANGANA and Rosalía. This is a new step in a trajectory that doesn’t stop taking our breath away. Something that we [ Read more ]

We love indie-pop, jangle, sunshine pop. We don’t have to keep saying it. We love bossa nova and soundtracks from the sixties and seventies. That’s why we are happy to announce that the next THE HEPBURNS album will be released on Elefant Records. And what’s more, it’s in tandem with Estella Rosa, the singer from the jangle-pop group NAH. The collaboration came about in the midst of the pandemic and brought us “Architecture Of The Ages”, a very special album that we are advancing with “The Other Side Of Grey”.

Matt Jones, Mike Thomas and Les Mun are still showing off their exquisite arrangements, their dreamy, polychromatic harmonies, and those stories about loveable losers that only someone like Matt Jones can illustrate so well. And “The Other Side Of Grey” shows us how to tell the story of a person drowning in self-pity through a song full of light. Artists, perspectives, nuances, emotions. Wonderful. And Estella’s sweet voice is the perfect counterpoint, the cherry on top of the cake of your dreams.

And what could be better than a video by Pooley, from Woom Studio, who once again shows off his good taste, his ability to play with a vintage esthetic and make it shine under a setting full of plasticity. In this case, it is a chromatic journey, starting in a futuristic city in black and white, where a multicolor sun starts to shine intermittently, and there are many tributes to classi [ Read more ]

“New Adventures In Pop” collection [Issue 053]

We love that daring way of living so much, that lifestyle that is constantly pushing the limits while searching for freedom and happiness that only a very few young, fresh groups are able to give us. We have already seen that COUR DE RÉCRÉ is in their element in that way of living, and now it is time to celebrate their first, eponymous full-length album, which shows us all the aspects of their intelligent and fun work. And above all, it plays up that “joie de vivre” that is such an intrinsic part of our French neighbors.

The road that has led us here, though it may not seem like it, has been long. COUR DE RÉCRÉ started out as Stan and Héloïse’s band. They built a project, with him in Avignon and her in Santiago de Chile, about distance and separation. Soon, Quentin, a friend of Stan’s, joined the project, and soon thereafter Chloé stepped in for Heloïse in live shows, and then later in studio recordings. But stability doesn’t seem to be their thing, and Stan went to live in Canada for two years, which didn’t stop them from putting out their first release, the EP “Éponyme”, in 2018. In 2019 Stan went back to Avignon, but Chloé moved to Paris. Distance is clearly in the group’s genes. After all this mileage, we have finally arrived at this album, full of inspiration and irresistible pop m [ Read more ]

We love it so much when we discover one of those hidden talents lying in wait in the independent national scene. Marina Gómez Marín almost arrived at music as a result of an economic crisis and a work pandemic. After being laid off in June 2020, she was looking for a way out of the situation by buying herself a keyboard and recording songs in her room. And all of us pop fans know that songs that are culled slowly behind the intimacy of four walls always wind up having unique, inimitable touches, far from the regular mainstream parameters. That is why we are full of all the excitement, bringing you MARINITA PRECARIA’s first advance single for what will be, due in 2022, her debut Mini-LP for our collection “New Adventures In Pop”. Close to NOSOTRÄSH and VAINICA DOBLE, to THE MAGNETIC FIELDS and EAST RIVER PIPE. “Siento Todavía” has a harmonic development that we are sure Neil Hannon would adore, a story that LA BIEN QUERIDA would love to tell, production work that FAMILY would have loved to put out… Because the coordinates needed to define Marina’s music are from a certain level: timeless, exciting and undisputable. The B-side of the debut single is “Tú Pa Qué”, a precious song that celebrates that unreal and warm hallucination that Gloria Van Aerssen and Carmen Santonja made possible. Because our protagonist has a talent not only for revealing her feeling [ Read more ]

Multifaceted collaborations and productions are an identifying mark of the advance releases of new songs from Míriam as LABORDE. Míriam is also the singer and guitarist of LISASINSON, and at the end of 2020 she released her first single as LABORDE, her most personal project. This new Digital Single, the fifth in her discography, stands out with a new collaboration with LEFTEE. A member of the Valencian collective Toxic Pop and with a new album just out (“Al Fondo Del Bar”), LEFTEE does more spectacular production work on this “Quererte Mal”. Somewhere between hyperpop and fancy trap, between brutal honesty and melodic sweetness. The tandem formed by Míriam and Dani has so much chemistry seeping out of every pore; they build generational anthems (like they did before with “No Te Vayas Aún”, their first collaboration), and they establish themselves as a sensitive, emotional, wrenching voice that at the same time is proud, non-conformist and rebellious. “Quererte Mal” is a trip to the hell of toxic, obsessive, possessive relationships, with deep, short kettle drum beats like something pounding in your chest, and ethereal arpeggios like highways to heavens that are a means of escape. Poor Effort, who works with 3D and audiovisuals, is responsible for the cover art and the lyric video.

The singles keep coming, in this surprising collection of songs, called upon to represent a [ Read more ]

TRACKLIST: 01 One More Kiss  02 Let Me Die (In Your Arms)

Now that we have had the inauguration gala for the Japanese duo STILL DREAMS’ first album (“Make Believe”) with Elefant Records, we can openly enjoy a new release that plays with qualities that make it especially enjoyable. It is possible that “One More Kiss” is one of their most representative songs in this aspect. The song can grow on you, in the deepest part of your gut, and let the light grow in the most intimate, comforting way. But it will also bring you to unexpected peak levels of exaltation on an endless night. As if THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART and MY BLOODY VALENTINE put together a supergroup for private parties. And for the release of this Digital Single, the producer DONG has made a magnificent lyric video, inspired in the pixelated arcade games of the eighties.

And to complete the release, there is a new, previously unreleased song, “Let Me Die (In Your Arms)”, the perfect companion for “One More Kiss”: dreamy melodies, eighties-style guitars, synth-pop bass, and a Europop chorus that can lift even the lowest spirits. Once again, NEW ORDER and SAINT ETIENNE pumped with a perfectly harmonious heart rate. And still, the feeling that with this whole epic show of energy, there is always a sort of dreaminess hiding between the notes of Ryuta’s and Maaya’s songs.

Last but not least, the cover art is once again in [ Read more ]

We finally have gotten our hands on “:3” (colon three) and we know that AXOLOTES MEXICANOS are exploring new paths in their own sound. “Vergüenza” is one of clearest examples of this, thanks especially to the production work by Juan Pedrayes. J-Pop, RnB, Disco, Gameboy Music and Europop in one of those syncopated productions that is full of playful melodies. Catchy, fun, rebellious, lively. It is quite an anthem. But also, following the collection of crazy videos they have been putting out with this album, for “Vergüenza”, and under the direction of Alberto de Santos and the production of TABACO, they have put together a kind of super fun dating contest, with Olaya as the main contestant. The situation lends to the appearance of a handful of deranged characters and eccentric costumes, with some hilarious moments and a spectacular ending. But we don’t want to give anything away. Enjoy “Vergüenza” and this quintet full of never-ending vitality.

“Nainonai” is the album that has definitively confirmed the existence of the TRONCO universe – the universe of Fermí and Conxita. Their specific collective imagination, which could draw from Boris Vian and VAINICA DOBLE, somewhere between the mundane and the abstract, has ultimately given shape to an album that is a fantastic journey in and of itself. It is special and unique. We are still recovering some of their songs, like the marvelous “Demasiadas Veces”. A Sardana-style flute, a touch of cha-cha-cha and another touch of bolero, and above all that way they have of saying things. On this occasion, Níquel (Alberto León) and Inés Azagra have made a video that is an allegory in and of itself, another fantastic, singular journey, making it clear that TRONCO is all about their imagination. Creating uncertainty around what has always been held to be true. Making a game out of questioning things and making poetry out of the impossible. They are unique. The only thing you have to do is let yourself be carried you.

Listening to new music is always an odyssey in search of seduction in its purest, most spontaneous and instantaneous form. Discovering unexplored territory, breathing unknown air. It is an arduous and complex adventure that presents artists with the need to develop a unique musical language all their own. Not many are able to pull it off. But some do it with astonishing ease. The trail of breadcrumbs that rebe has been leaving to lead us to this Mini-LP called “solo pasiones…” makes it clear that we are looking at a great, multi-faceted and incomparable artist.

rebe started out as a member of the group LULI REBE & SUS XOCOLATINAS along with her friend Luli and the omnipresent Cardevore, a travel companion who has helped with production and performances. But she shifted quickly into a solo career, as a result of her curiosity and musical inquisitiveness.

The first official release in physical format was through the Snap! Clap! Club and Jeanne D’Arc labels, and it was a cassette with her debut, “Recuerdos de cuando me aplastó una roca y me morí” (2019) which sold out in a matter of hours, even before being released, and came wrapped in fabric that rebe herself sewed by hand. The vinyl re-release of the album also sold out immediately. On it, we could find authentic sonic and melodic discoveries (and that production work!). One of the things that made her considerably increase her array of followers were her covers. To [ Read more ]

When we are still savoring the sweetness of that marvelous “Lo Que Te Falta”, its incredible reception by the media and the public (it made it to the cover of Rockdelux and Time Out, was included on the year’s best of lists in media like Efe Eme, the Tribuna, Qualsevol, JNSP… And won album of the year from Rockdelux and El Periódico). What could we expect now from our beloved Soleá Morentecategoría A new, effervescent and exciting union between pop, rock, and flamencocategoría A new mutation with touches of electronica and full of spirití A little bit of all the above, but really nothing like that at all. Because she is unpredictable. Essential. The new songs from Soleá Morente are completely her own; for the first time in her career, she is presenting an album composed entirely on her own. This work, unexpectedly, turned out to be a delicate collection of shoegazing and ambient pop songs, that can make us think of THE CURE as much as of BEACH HOUSE, of Camilo Sesto and Cecilia, of CIGARETTES AFTER SEX and THE WAR ON DRUGS, of COCTEAU TWINS and Sufjan Stevens, but with the unmistakable touch of her voice (which is already a personality trait in and of itself) and that has a knack for those melodies that drink from the great Spanish pop classics of the 70s. Once again, she is breaking ground, exploring unknown territory, shattering expectations, carving out her own path, and letting herself go with the fl [ Read more ]

When Kat and Andi moved to New York city, their bedroom became the place where they created BUBBLE TEA AND CIGARETTES, a project that looks for an intimate connection with the listener: melancholy, nostalgia, evocation and immensely beautiful melodies. Here at Elefant, we adore slow-paced dream-pop, and we are excited to announce that the band has joined the label and, after the summer, will release their first album.

Before this song we are bringing you today, they have released two Digital Singles. Their first song was “5AM Empanada With You”, which came out on July 31, 2020, and it was the song that started it all. It was a typically Friday night under the influence, but a melodic idea suddenly struck Andi at 3 am while walking on the street. The couple rushed back home and recorded the melody with the guitar which became the intro of the song. They added some MIDI drums and bass, and it immediately sounded so good that they started slow dancing to it for the entire night. Then they went outside to buy some empanadas and the sky started turning bright. From then on, everything flowed. It became a song reflecting the summertime memories about lost love that set the scene for the melancholic slow ballad, drifting between dreaminess and nostalgia, fantasy and the purest, most beautiful emotion.

On August 14 of the same year, they released “Go Downstairs To The Blue Moon, Buy Some Fried Chicken”, which was also inspired by the nightlife of New York City [ Read more ]
