Release Date "Los Perdimos de Vista" [Digital Single]: 19-01-2015

Release Date “Nordeste” [Mini-LP 10"]: 16-02-2015

Available for PRE-ORDER on our website!!

Few groups in Spain at the moment are as representative of what the C86 sound was as LOS BONSÁIS are. After their 7” single for our “New Adventures In Pop” collection, and a fantastic 10” vinyl Mini-LP, now we have the advance digital single from “Nordeste”, their newest full-length release.

“Los Perdimos De Vista” is solid proof of their urgent sound, in this case dressed up with a Hammond organ that accentuates their more melodic side, and which gives them a slightly more 50s touch and confirms that they are more than dignified of being called the heirs of timeless groups like SHOP ASSISTANTS, AVENTURAS DE KIRLIAN, THE VASELINES, and THE PASTELS. What’s more, this single includes “Nubes Y Claros”, a song that won’t be included on “Nordeste”, their upcoming 10” Mini-LP.

“Nubes Y Claros” has some of the sharpest guitars more relaxed tempo, and develops a pure vocal line with melancholic accents. The surprising harmony hints to a greater range in the group’s sounds, while at the same time remaining loyal to its sonic roots and punk-pop philosophy. We will soon see and enjoy this intense display.

After enjoying “Premeditación”, the first of the 12” Maxi-Single trilogy  that makes up LA BIEN QUERIDA’s new work, the second episode, “Nocturnidad”, will be released this coming January 6th. And the level of intensity doesn’t drop one bit, because the album reaches all the levels the first Maxi-Single showed us.  The capacity of Ana’s songs to excite and to transmit the truth, as is their trademark, is still there, this time bathed in ringing, cold sounds. The name of this second Maxi-Single already promises darkness and mystery, and the contents offer it in abundance.

“Ojalá Estuvieras Muerto” opens this new album spectacularly. The rhythm hints at new goth-pop groups like SALEM and hazy atmospheres similar to COLLEGE, CHROMATICS, and M83. The song is turbulent, and topped off with violent lyrics full of resentment; the ones Ana writes so well.

On “Encadenados”, Ana continues to take feelings about love to the extreme, an [ Read more ]

(Don’t cry for me if I get lost at sea…) is the first line of “Éxodo”, the song with which LINDA GUILALA are participating in the Ukelele Kit Project, an artistic project organized by Matilde Rodríguez of O Gato Cósmico. The project mixes a visual artist with a music group and a director, all of whom are Galician or have a relationship with Galician culture, in order to promote a ukulele. The idea consists of the visual artist decorating the ukulele, the music group recording a song with it, and then the director making an audiovisual document of the whole process.

The thing is, that line came about the day that Eva and Iván were chatting about this project with Xoan Escudero (the director of the video), and the first thing that came to his mind were Soviet cosmonauts, about to take off for outer-space without any certainty of whether they would return safely or whether they would stay up there forever. So, Marcos Vigo was in charge of creating the ukulele that appears in that video, and Bruno, Eva and Iván gave shape to a conglomerate of noise and emotion in a shoegazey style, full of energy, with the previously mentioned ukulele as the only string instrument. “Éxodo” is a trademark song, in which the ukulele plays a very different role than what could be expected of its more common uses, thanks to experimentation with dist [ Read more ]

It was already announced with that marvelous single “Entre Girasoles”, and now it’s here. “UHF” is COOPER’s new Mini-LP, to be released on a fantastic limited-edition 12” vinyl + CD. This release brings a more luminous and vital Alex Diez back to us, with lyrics that look with sunny melancholy on those subtle stories that make our day-to-day lives richer.

And to start things off, “Ideal” shows just how in prime form he is. The exciting lyrics about chance meetings are home to 12-string guitars swaying with echoes of LOS PLANETAS, or, what is basically the same thing, the magical dialogue between sixties-pop and power-pop. “Entre Girasoles”, as we mentioned before, was already released as an advance 7” single, and is a summery song with a marvelous melody somewhere between LOS ÁNGELES and LA BUENA VIDA. “Bengalas” closes the first side with a rockier accent at a melancholic medium tempo that is, at the same time, full of electricity.

“Hipsters” opens the B-side, and it’s a direct connection with Brit-pop from the 90s, with songs by BLUR or SLEEPER, with that explosiveness that reminds us of ELASTICA. “Hipsters” goes back to the energy levels of his more energized songs, like “Ruido” and “Rabia”. “Brick Lane” is full of his passion for London, starting with the reference itself to Brick Land and those [ Read more ]

Few things can make us as happy during Elefant Records’ 25th anniversary as the news that we’re about to tell you. One of our favorite composers, Bobby Wratten – who has been behind projects as important for our label as THE FIELD MICE, NORTHERN PICTURE LIBRARY, and TREMBLING BLUE STARS – has a new project: LIGHTNING IN A TWILIGHT HOUR. In this project, he has joined forces again with Beth Arzy (TREMBLING BLUE STARS, ABERDEEN, THE LUXEMBOURG SIGNAL), and he is counting on the collaboration of his old friend Michael Hiscock, who was the bassist of THE FIELD MICE. Anne Mari Barker-Davies alsoparticipates on these new songs, as does the producer Ian Catt, who has worked with Bobby on all of his albums, from that very first THE FIELD MICE single in 1988, “Emma’s House”, to the last TREMBLING BLUE STARS release in 2011.

And what better way to present this new adventure from Bobby Wratten than by giving you all a song from what will be their debut album, as a giftí “The Memory Museum” has some of the constants that were the stars of his last albums: evanescent atmospheres, crystalline guitars, and sweet voices, to which we have to add Hiscock’s sinuous bass, which gives the song an even stronger touch of mystery. But this is just an appetizer, and we can assure you that his next releases contain many more ingredients that will definitely surprise newcomers and exhilarate fans.

The first release will be a Min [ Read more ]

BELLE GHOUL, the group now formed by Christopher Tait (ELECTRIC SIX), Jesse Paris Smith (the daughter of Patti Smith and MC5’s guitarist Fred “Sonic” Smith), Matt Van, Zach Shipps and Mike Alonso, find themselves in a creative, prolific stage, which is confirmed by this new 10” mini-LP that opens up new doors within the group’s sound. It’s a slippery release, jumping between styles in a way that is only possible for two music-lovers this talented, playing with synthesizers and folk echoes, and getting deeper into the instrumental development. At the same time, it gets stronger, more forceful, especially in the immediate hits, even momentarily dipping into the mix of rock and electronic that characterized the sound of Tait’s other band.

The result is “Rabbit's Moon & Doomsday”. The album shifts between groove and danceable rock with bursts of pop, and that “Lake Of Fires” is proof. It gives off airs of the seventies amidst boosts from the hammond, while moving our feet with grace and style; the song is highly influenced by the “Twin Peaks” soundtrack. “Timepieces” holds on to a solid handful of Beatle-esque classicism with touches of psychedelic-pop and Californian choruses, and a solo that seems like it was created by Dean Wareham to decorate the resurrection of our beloved LUNA. “Momentum” closes side A; it’s an instrumental that moves from sober piano to [ Read more ]

A few months ago, we mentioned a collaboration between Giorgio Tuma and former STEREOLAB singer Laetitia Sadier. The result was the delicious and delicate “Anna, My Dear,” a song that feels like magic, thanks to the special chemistry between Tuma’s majestic and crystalline arrangements and Laetitia’s silky voice. The results were so incredible that this story’s stars themselves have even decided to do it again.

After such a fruitful collaboration, Giorgio Tuma invited Laetitia Sadier to participate in the “Contronatura” festival in Lecce (Italy). The visit ended up cementing their friendship and they reached a sort of “agreement”, in which Giorgio would write a song for Laetitia’s album, and she would sing on a couple of songs from his new album.

Giorgio’s first idea was to write a reggae song, something different, something that stood out, that would be a change from Laetitia’s usual style. But at the time, Tuma and his regular musicians were recording the new album (of which we are already anxiously awaiting signs) and already had an instrumental version of “Release From The Centre Of Your Heart” prepared for Laetitia to sing. When she heard it, she loved it so much that she asked if it could be the song that she included on her own album. And so that is how this song came to be included on “Something Shines”, the amazing new album that Laetitia Sadier released on D [ Read more ]

From Igor Stravinsky to John Cale, Stan Tracey to Peter Blake, and Edith Sitwell to Dannie Abse, artists, musicians and writers have been inspired by the work of Dylan Thomas to create their own tributes to Swansea's most famous son. The latest artist to join this illustrious group is Swansea indie punk pop legend HELEN LOVE who's penned an affectionate tribute to Dylan, his fellow Swansea poets Vernon Watkins andNigel Jenkins, and to the town of Swansea.

2014 has seen celebrations across Wales and beyond to mark the 100th anniversary of Dylan's birth, and fellow "Kardomah Boy" Vernon Watkins has been honoured with the unveiling of a blue plaque in Swansea. The year has also seen tributes paid to the highly respected poet and writer Nigel Jenkins who sadly died in January 2014. So here's the soundtrack to the Autumn of 2014 when we all went a bit poet mad and partied hard like Richard Burton.

Belle Ghoul are an unpredictable, unimaginable group, resulting from the uncontainable talents of the two main members, Christopher Tait (among many other things, keyboardist of ELECTRIC SIX) and Jesse Smith (Patti Smith’s daughter). With such big names, the mix is unpredictable, and in this case, serves to whet our appetites for their imminent 10” vinyl Mini-LP, “Rabbit’s Moon & Doomsday” with this advance digital single. The single includes a remix and a previously unreleased song that lets the group’s electronic background – something they haven’t shown so openly so far – run wild.

But the main song, included in the upcoming Mini-LP, is a perfect example of soul and pop, with the lyrical forms of Sam Cooke and the musical influences of THROWING MUSES and XTC. The result is one their most significant hits to date. And as for the remix, DUBAI BROS (another of Christopher’s projects) are in charge and they put an important twist on “Lakes of Fire”. It’s an unimaginable leap forward for the group’s sound, darker and more danceable, with echoes of KRAFTWERK and LIQUID LIQUID. Then there’s “D [ Read more ]

Memory is a strange and magical thing. While time hides small wonders in the most inscrutable corners, memory, like an surprise spark that ignites when you least expect it, sets off a series of memories that help us to better understand ourselves, to enjoy more what we were, and, therefore, what we are. This is the story of OVIFORMIA SCI. They were a cult group that got together in the early eighties and became something that all of Madrid was talking about, with a fan base that included ALASKA Y LOS PEGAMOIDES, ZOMBIES, PARAÍSO (Fernando Márquez himself asked if he could join the band, though it ultimately never happened), and so many more, and who never released anything. Their recordings were lost for years, but El [ Read more ]

Here at Elefant Records we really believe in NELEONARD. We believe in Nele’s lyrics, in their clear ideas about making POP songs: big, full of detail, with the goal of getting you hooked on the first listen, and not at all hesitant to talk about LOVE and the disappointments of relationships, whatever kind they may be. And that’s exactly why NELEONARD’s record label debut is going to be the first 10” in the catalogue of our collection for new artists, New Adventures In Pop. It’s a collection of songs capable of incorporating everything from the wide range of sounds of LA BIEN QUERIDA, to the lyrical sensitivity of Ana Fernández-Villaverde, the delicacy of a young LE MANS, the emotion of BELLE AND SEBASTIAN, an instrumental classicism close to bands like THE DIVINE COMEDY, FELT’s delicate guitars, or the memory of Spanish folk-pop groups from the 70s like José Manuel, SOLERA, PICNIC and NUEVOS HORIZONTES.

Since their personal project was born in 2012, Nele have been adding people to the group to really give these songs everything they needed: Laura Alonso,Elena Comas,Guille Rodríguez,Eloy Bernal and Pedro Señalada, who come from bands like GÚDAR, LOS PROBETA, DIE KATAPULT, GABRIEL Y VENCERÁS and HIBERNALES. And step by step, the moment has finally arrived to get into the Caballo Grande Studios, with the production work of Cristian Pallejà (NISEI, FRED I SON) and Ferran Resines (BL [ Read more ]

Alex Díez is back on the music scene, and he comes bearing innumerable gifts and surprises, which we will reveal little by little.  For now, all we can say is that it’s a good time to be a COOPER fan, because we are entering a new creative stage of the man who was once the frontman of LOS FLECHAZOS.

So far, may this white, 500-copy limited-edition, 7” serve as a taste of what’s to come. “Entre Girasoles” is an advance from their upcoming Mini-LP “UHF”. It has a delicious pop melody, with marvelous arpeggios and harmonies that remind us of LA BUENA VIDA and LOS BRINCOS and of the golden era of Spanish pop. The single’s B-side, however, shows COOPER’s power-pop side, with a cover of the American group, LOLAS. And the thing is, their “Silver Dollar Sunday” here becomes el “Dolar De La Suerte” (The Lucky Dollar), and it is taken to more electronic grounds than the original, without compromising its pop spirit, somewhere between SLOAN and TEENAGE FANCLUB. Pure enjoyment.

We know this single is going to make a lot of people impatient for what’s coming. We promise you that your expectations will be met and surpassed.
