We already knew about Adrià’s ability to write great summer hits. Or maybe you don’t want to admit that every time summer comes, the wonder that is “Lo Que Me Gusta Del Verano Es Poder Tomar Helado” comes right into your headcategoría Because with this “Sirenear”, PAPA TOPO has left us speechless. It is a love song to Mallorca, to its contrasts; it mixes the vitality of its crystalline waters with the sadness of living a bit isolated and looking for physical love.

This song has arrived to illuminate and (and rock) these summer days, and for it, Adrià himself confirms he was influenced by other summer hits by PARADISIO, SONIA Y SELENA, PONT AERI and even songs that were used in tourist ads in the 60’s (“El Puente Hacia Mallorca” and “El Turista 1.999.999”).

For the production, they worked with Milton (DËNVER), whom Adrià met a few years ago when DËNVER played their last concerts in Spain, and they stayed at his house in Barcelona for a few days. That is where they discovered that they had a lot in common, musically and personally, and they decided to work together in the future. When he wrote “Sirenear”, Adrià thought that Milton would be the perfect producer because of the sweet, danceable sound of so many of his productions ("Mai Lov", "El Fondo Del Barro" or his recent "6,6").

On “Sirenear”, we hear the story of a mer [ Read more ]

“Hinoki”, the last release from LOS BONSÁIS, is an album full of surprises. And “No Es Para Tanto” is probably the biggest surprise of all. It is a velvety, acoustic song that reminds us of that “Saudade” by our beloved LE MANS, their melancholy, laziness, their resigned unease. But if along with the song we also bring you a new video by Raquel Calvo (who has already directed music and lyric videos for GIORGIO TUMA, TRONCO, NEVVER, Cristina Quesada, TENNIS CLUB and LA CASA AZUL), it’s an even greater surprise. We have a precious trademark stop-motion, playing with textiles and textures to talk about a woman’s relationship with the sea, with her own internal world and her imagination. It is pure visual poetry. A delicacy that barely lasts for two minutes. Something to watch again and again.

Slow, atmospheric music is not at the peak of its fame right now. It’s true that we can enjoy prestigious bands like LOW and BEACH HOUSE, and that when we hear some of the few groups that populate these fields we can get excited. But now is not the time for contemplation. That’s why we love that GALAXY FINGERS are reaffirming themselves in the parameters of their debut Single, “Let In Elijah EP”, and that with Elefant Records they are putting out, “The Last Bastion Of Fox Quality”, a 10” that will be released in digital format as well as a 300-copy numbered-limited-edition black vinyl.

Once again with recording assistance from Brand Lee (THE ALBUM LEAF) and the incorporation in mixing of Jerik Centeno, GALAXY FINGERS have made an album that magnifies their style and makes them worthy heirs of a lineage with very little presence on the face of the earth, but that has a distinguished history. “Right Joan” reminds us of Victoria Legrand’s band, thanks to the presence of the synthesizers and melancholy, hypnotic ambiance. “Funeral At Cosmo Square” are the early LOW from “The Curtain Hits The Cast”, the most delicate L’ALTRA, the most luminous THE LOW LOWS. Crystalline delicacy, held breath, absolutely mesmerizing vocal play and radical dynamics. “Cynically Sweet” could be RADAR BROS bewitched by Hope Sandoval, singing about the sweet heartache of first love, with those repetitive [ Read more ]

“Think I Heard A Rumour” has been a total change of direction in Cristina Quesada’s career. The change in sound, the compositions by Joe Moore (THE YEARNING, THE PERFECT KISS, Lia Pamina) and a new, more sophisticated image have made us happy to celebrate this new stage in her career. And “Love At Third Sight” is definitely one of the songs with the most to celebrate. A blast of ultra-melodic disco-pop with a super addictive chorus, that we are bringing to you with a fantastic video directed by Daniel Cuenca (LA CASA AZUL, THE PERFECT KISS, RUSH WEEK, FITNESS FOREVER…). It has an esthetic that is Japanese (a culture which has made a significant impact on the stars of this album), exuberantly colorful, bright and energetic.

And to top things off, this release will include a previously unreleased track written by Joe Moore, at the level of “Love At Third Sight”. “Nothing Moves You Like A Melody” makes the dance floor tremble with one of those songs that is an ode to music, both lyrically and sonically. BANANARAMA, PET SHOP BOYS, Kylie Minogue, SAINT ETIENNE, all in a row. A euro-disco hit and further proof that Joe is living a moment of infinite inspiration.

We don’t know if Guille Milkyway imagined how far “La Revolución Sexual” would go when he began to create it. From becoming the trademark song from his eponymous third LP and an inevitable song for live performances, to suddenly almost being chosen to represent Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest. From being paid tribute to on one of the “Operación Triunfo” (Spain’s “X Factor”) galas, to having become the song the show used to close all the concerts in its return tour. It is famous on dance floors, festivals, parties, and anywhere music is the protagonist. “La Revolución Sexual” has been included on the soundtrack of so many movies and TV shows, and also on so many compilation albums – some related to Eurovision and euro fans (for whom it is still one of their favorite songs) and others related to Pride; in fact, it has become one of the trademark songs of the LGBTQIA community. José Corbacho sang it, imitating Guille, on the famous TV show “Tu Cara Me Suena”, and many other quiz shows like “Pasapalabra”, “Saber Y Ganar” and “Cifras Y Letras” have included questions about LA CASA AZUL’s huge hit.

That’s why Guille has decided to rediscover the song and, with all the experience he has acquired over the years as a sound technician and producer, to improve its sound, re-record his vocals, and make an even more solid final resu [ Read more ]

“Meadow Lane Park” made it clear that there is more to LE SUPERHOMARD than inspiration. What versatility. The ease with which they play with styles, the way the move from the most psychedelic, martial kraut-rock to synth-pop and the most addictive euro-disco, makes them one of the juiciest options to appear on the European scene recently. That is why their joining forces with Xavier Boyer, the singer from TAHITI 80, to release this Single called “Domino” is such wonderful news.

Christophe Vaillant (LE SUPERHOMARD) and Xavier himself have been friends for many years, so it is only natural that the latter suggested celebrating the release of LE SUPERHOMARD’s first album with a two-song collaboration, the above-mentioned “Domino” and “Gentle Wind (The American Spring)”. And what can come out of such a collaborationcategoría A couple of undeniable hits. Disco-funk with electro touches, ROOSEVELT like outpourings, Xavier’speculiar voice accompanied by LE SUPERHOMARD’s electro-pop elegance, luminous choruses, marvelous string arrangements… Two songs that were being given away with a CD that came with a special edition of the album released in Japan and that is now going to be available on the rest of the planet as an exquisite 500-copy numbered-limited-edition 7” white vinyl piece, with a trademark video, another esthetic and geometric fantasy, by Pooley (Woom Studio). Don’t miss it! [ Read more ]

We love to watch our “New Adventures In Pop” collection grow. Because it means we have a new discovery, a new proposal full of surprises, freshness and excitement. And this time we are bringing you an album that is overflowing with this everywhere. The American group TENNIS CLUB is releasing a new album with nine songs called “Pink”, that lasts just over twenty minutes, and that has a few garage-surf-pop gems that sound like a mix of THE MOLDY PEACHES, THE BEACH BOYS, ALL GIRL SUMMER FUN BAND, SONNY & THE SUNSETS, THE VENTURES and Chris Montez’s first recordings on the Monogram Records label. Because TENNIS CLUB, when they talk about music, talk about surf, music from the 60s and contemporary lo-fi garage.

It reminds us of those small projects that are so big, that started in a room or a small garage, without any plan other than to have fun and make pop songs. Songs that are short and fleeting in their beauty, that remind us somehow of Tony Molina’s songs. That’s how this new album by TENNIS CLUB was recorded, after their first EP in 2017 released digitally by Spirit Goth Records (New York) and on cassette by Wallflower Records (Houston). But when we talk about TENNIS CLUB we are talking about the songs that Wilson Hernandez makes in his house in Joplin, Missouri (USA). These are the compositions that Sean O’Dell interprets on drums (and also does the recordings and production work) and Tehya on bass, after a complete overha [ Read more ]

The excitement and the emotion we feel when we introduce the first songs from a newly-signed artist are always special. We just met LISASINSON a few days ago, and we were immediately won over by their bubbly-pop-punk, and we already have their first Single, “Barakaldo”. LISASINSON is a graphic and musical project that started in November 2018 at the Fine Arts campus in Valencia, with Miriam (vocals and guitar), Mar (vocals and guitar) and María (drums and backing vocals). They quickly found their identity: punk drum lines, pop guitar melodies, brazen lyrics, or as they like to call it “punky pop”. And that’s how “Barakaldo” came about, recorded with the indispensable help of Pau Nadal, who, in addition to recording the album, produced it and played bass on it. The first song is a clear example of what we were talking about: attitude, aim, unleashed spirits, and, fortunately, no prejudices. How would they define ití “It’s an ironic song about what an idiot you turn into when you fall in love”. We couldn’t have said it better.

And that’s when their friend Victoria Herranz shows up, with an idea for their first video, and that is the apex. There, in three minutes, we can see these three girls unleash their magic, their message that “they’re three million galaxies from this world”. And we understand their magnetism. And we are hopelessly in love. Total addiction, the catchy punk [ Read more ]

A timely retreat is always a victory. After 35 years dedicated to pop music, my life’s greatest passion, the time has come to say goodbye. It’s time to change paths now, to start new projects and enjoy each day in a different way. Not even a drop of sadness; the only thing I feel is grateful. To Luis and Montse at Elefant Records, for having treated my work with so much affection and passion. I am so proud to have been a part of this great label. Grateful to Cristina, Julia and my mother, strong women and a constant inspiration. Thank you also to all the musicians I have shared the road and a blanket with in LOS FLECHAZOS and COOPER. Especially to Mario Álvarez and Dani Montero for their unbreakable loyalty and their unlimited generosity. Thanks to all the media – the music press, the digital media, and radio broadcasters that have supported my career. Very especially to Radio 3. And eternal thanks to our loyal fans, the only reason for having put off this decision until now. We have had the best fans and audiences possible and I hope that my songs play in your ears for a long time. I am going to miss you so much (come see me in Leon!)

We are keeping our current concert schedule, playing what we already have scheduled and anything else that comes up, until November 9, when we will play our last farewell concert in Madrid, at Ochoymedio Club (Sala But).

Until we meet again,

Alex Cooper

CARIÑO is turning out to be something totally unique. With just a handful of songs under their belt, they are already performing in practically all the festivals on the Spanish map (and there are a lot of them), and turning into a reference in music. Just one year after appearing on Elefant Records with “Pop Para La Bajona” and “Movidas”, they released a song on the fifth “Hits With Tits” compilation, along with other bands formed by women, like JÚLIA, LAS ROBERTAS, LANUCA and many more. That song, until now, could only be found on that vinyl compilation, but now it is going to be released in digital format. “La Bajona” has a nebulous sound, with touches of shoegaze and electronic arrangements, and it talks about a hungover Sunday in a toxic relationship. Delicious and melancholically addictive. This song was definitely the jumping off point for so many things that have come after. [ Read more ]

When you hear something that is so incredible that you don’t know if it’s painstakingly calculated, or whether it is the result of a marvelous coincidence, congratulations: you are dealing with something absolutely amazing. Everything that Chenta Tsai makes seems to be like this. And he has done it again, after that “Corazón De Cerdo Con Ginseng Al Vapor”, after his devastating autobiographical book, after his great radio show or his diverse collaborations with the newspaper El País. But each time we have new material from him in our hands we feel like something like this can only come from the deepest part of him. And everything makes so much sense. “Miseria Humana” is a new Mini-LP conceived to reflect current forms of consumption. It is a criticism of the way we consume songs today, consumerist culture, and the ephemeral life of all the things that surround us.

Mini songs that barely reach the two-minute mark, Loop Music that, as Chenta himself explains, “are consumed by playing them on repeat until you get tired of the song and throw it away”. Put this way, it seems like he’s treating his songs with a certain disdain and contempt. But that’s Chenta. He isn’t just anyone. He’s a violinist for the Madrid Royal Music Conservatory. He’s an architect. And he is PUTOCHINOMARICÓN. Only someone like him could write songs like “Deporte Nacional” and “Doble [ Read more ]

We know that in music, like with everything else, everything has already been invented. We hear it and repeat it thousands of times. That’s why we fall to pieces whenever one of those strange, magical, unique moments occurs and we think we are hearing something new. And when that happens in Spanish, the feeling is even more intense. That’s why we’re so satisfied with our “New Adventures In Pop” collection, that brings us new groups with so many new things to say. And that’s why we’re so proud of groups like NEVVER debuting in this collection, which was born for bands just like them, who have so much to offer, in such new and surprising ways.

Oddly, NEVVER’s first album is called “Disforia”. They don’t hide it; their intention is to make you nervous, to disturb, to throw you off. This trio from Getafe made up of Javier Aparicio (vocals), Borja Aranda (keyboards and guitars) and Raúl Serrano (bass), has searched among shoegaze, trap, dream pop, hip hop and synth pop to find their own voice. Their structure is surprising, but the chosen emotions make an impact, and are the vehicle that carries us along in this journey. Unlike many other urban rhythms that were the upbringing of three friends growing up together in this part of Madrid and who spent their time in an old garage, NEVVER use sadness, sensitivity and melancholy to express their frustration. Like JOY DIVISION, like DÉCIMA VÍCTIMA, li [ Read more ]

“El Último Segundo” is one of the most luminous songs from NELEONARD’s second album, “Un Lugar Imaginado”. An exhibit of soul pop, with touches of funk and electro-pop that ranges between BELLE & SEBASTIAN and TAHITI 80, and which brings us back to that marvelous album thanks to this digital single that includes the gift of three previously unreleased songs that enrich the group from Barcelona’s state of inspiration. Francesca Catalá has prepared a delicious video, which is set up as a conversation between two teenagers that meet up to talk about their relationship, their love. This all takes place in the Laberint d'Horta Park in Barcelona. Because this garden was created based on mythological stories related to love. There we find the labyrinth of Ariadne and Theseus, the fountain of the nymph Egeria, the cave of Echo, a sculpture of Eros and another of Narcissus.

“¿Dónde Están Los Niñoscategoría” is another of those trademark three-four time songs, with that personal touch that Spanish guitars and castanets add, and those lyrics full of pleasant irony, shared by Nele and Laura. “Lo Que Ya Has Perdido” is a mid-tempo full of sadness and melancholy, a reflection of lonely, empty nights, an anthem to great losers. Listen to “No debes temer, No debes temer lo que ya has perdido” (Don’t be afraid, Don’t be afraid of what you have al [ Read more ]

Five years ago we had no discographic news about Javi and Coral’sband. That compilation called “Maravillas De La Ciencia” made it clear that an era was ending for the group, and left us not knowing what their next step would be. We finally have the answer to this question. BAND À PART is going to release a new album called “Templos Y Neones”. Their trips to Japan made a huge impact on this new incarnation of the group, since the name of their new work references what represents day and night in Tokyo for Javi and Coral. Daytime, calm and sunny, represented by the small temples you find on any corner while you wander around a residential neighborhood. And nighttime, full of neon, bright, crazy and futuristic. The album is a journey from night to day and is even influenced by what was called “City Pop” in Japan in the eighties: a musical trend that came from the huge economic boom from that decade and that had all the young people constantly out on the streets in their cars, blasting funk, disco, and synth-pop, a gesture of care-free hedonism.

And while we are waiting for the album to get here, we have “Cómo Hablar Con Chicas En Las Fiestas” as an advance. And it confirms what we were talking about before. It is a more electronic, danceable song, with influences from eighties synth-pop, disco, electro-pop, euro disco, touches of LIO, Momoko Kikuchi and NEW ORDER, and also of current things like SUMMER CA [ Read more ]
