“Todas tus amigas” is the advance single from "La Polinesia Meridional", the imminent new album by LA CASA AZUL that will be released in 2011. The song has become an instant classic in the repertoire of one of the most loved and respected artists of the independent international scene. Since we announced the surprise release of the new single there has been so much excitement and so many expectations, and so many people dying to hear something new by LA CASA AZUL that it produced total craziness online just a few hours after the video became available on the most important digital platforms. It didn’t take long for “Todas tus amigas” to reach the number one spot on the iTunes digital sales list, nor for all the music blogs to make news of the release of Guille Milkyway’s new song. The movement that the news generated on the social networks (Twitter, Facebook…) was absolutely amazing, not to mention the fact that the fans and followers of LA CASA AZUL were thrilled with this little taste of the new album.

“Todas tus amigas” was the first song that Guille wrote after “La Revolución Sexual” and it is the perfect link in the evolution of what “La Revolución Sexual” was and what "La Polinesia Meridional" will be. But the really big news now is the presentation of the official video-clip for “Todas tus amigas”. Guille had a very clear idea in his head of wh [ Read more ]

In 2011 a new adventure will begin for LA CASA AZUL, the most exciting and unexpected adventure, the most hoped-for adventure, an adventure full of fantasies that will transport us to LA CASA AZUL’s new universe. We didn’t want to say good-bye to this year without offering the first few clues about this new adventure-release, which will be called "La Polinesia Meridional", to all of the group’s fans. LA CASA AZUL’s new album is practically finished and what we’re giving you right now are the first brush-strokes of what is going to be a spectacular painting, a self-portrait of the world that surrounds Guille Milkyway, a perfect reflection of all our lives, with our fears and joys, our best and worst moments, but always with that optimism that is imprinted on the songs of one the musical projects that most enflames our fantasies and evasions through music.

"Todas tus amigas" is a song about suffering and about how liberating it is to be aware of other people’s suffering. It is about death’s inexorableness and escapism as a valid method of dealing with pain and fear. Sometimes we think it is impossible that certain people are suffering when outwardly they seem confident and well balanced. Learning that even these people can carry a profound hurt deep inside them can sometimes, frankly, be [ Read more ]

We are pleased to introduce the video for one of Astrud’s new songs, an advance release from their album “Lo nuevo”

ASTRUD always have been and always will be a breath of fresh air in the pop panorama – not only the Spanish scene, in which they are crucial and indispensable, but also the international scene. Their way of thinking about music, of approaching it and taking it apart from all angles makes it unique, original and inimitable. That’s also why their return to the music scene, backed by Elefant Records, can be nothing less than a repositioning of themselves, a self-questioning… So the fact that the new disc is a revision of their entire career, backed by COL·LECTIU BROSSA, an instrumental collective that has given their new songs a completely different feel. “Lo Nuevo” is the title for the selection of 14 songs that make up their anticipated next album, with a release scheduled for the end of November 2010.

And as a logical consequence of this new moment in their career, as well as an album advance, we get the videoclip of one of the two new songs on the disc, “La música de las supercuerdas (Retrato de Marc Casas)”: really, it’s a short, self-referential film in which they parody and pay homage to themselves at the same time, much like Woody Allen at the height of his satire, that is an unprejudiced and incisive countercultural exercise, and will attract both the lovers of their occasio [ Read more ]

“Porque lo viejo es lo nuevo, y lo culto, popular” (Because what’s old is new and what’s cult, popular). That’s how ASTRUD’s latest disc begins, accompanied by COL·LECTIU BROSSA and produced by Ferran Conangla. They are breaking down barriers, disconcerting and ironic as always, brilliant, creative and unprecedented like never before. Because this album, like all compilations (although this one really isn’t once you hear it), serves as a point of inflection: it’s a moment to reconsider, reset, rethink and reflect based on the past, present and future constants which, in our case, give weight to one of the most astonishing, personal and unique musical careers in the history of Spanish pop.

But, who are ASTRUDcategoría Obviously, looking back means seeing the trajectory of a group that appeared before us as a reconstruction of techno-pop when they released their sold-out and highly searched for debut EP. They surpassed all our expectations with albums full of great choruses and generational anthems like “Mi fracaso personal” and “Gran Fuerza”. They definitively confirmed their success with “Performance” and “Tú no existes”. People tried to define them by referencing groups like THE MAGNETIC FIELDS and MOMUS, and styles like Euro dance, folk-pop, chanson and Italian disco, but whose original sound, mixed acoustic instrumentation, with programming and danceable beats, l [ Read more ]

BAND À PART "No sé por qué" ER-279 Single 7" NEW ADVENTURES IN POP 003There have been very few times that we’ve listened to such a dignified successor to the Spanish-made pop from sixties, bands like PICNIC and FORMULA V, but that is also able at the same time to update its discourse with such ease and ability, taking bands like BELLE & SEBASTIAN, FITNESS FOREVER and NIZA as references. And the official debut from Coral and Javi contains four songs that are authentic gems, delicious and luminous, arranged with unusual mastery and with melodies that slide into your head with a surprising ease. &ld [ Read more ]

"Yo soy como Portugal" is without a dout one of the best songs on BLA’s debut album and one of their fans’ favorite songs, which they react to euphorically in concerts. "La mejor enfermedad", their introduction to the world, is one of the most refreshing and interesting debuts of 2010 and has placed them directly on the list of the most promising groups of the new independent scene in our country. "Te espío y te archivo", on its own merits, had the privelege of being their first video-clip; a close, intimate and day-to-day piece of work, brilliantly done by Nadia Portillo. BLA’s next audiovisual step was destined to be "Yo soy como Portugal" and the result has been an explosion of authentic sickness. Lluís Prieto (Llaüt Digital) was responsible for forming a story that so many people identify with as well as a reality, which is Portugal, into images, which work as the perfect simile.

After causing a huge impact wth the first two video-clips for PAPA TOPO, Lluís Prieto has once again managed to create a fascinating world where one embarrassment comes right after the other, and everything you can imagine happens to Belén, our accidental star, until she finally lands on a beach in Portugal. But the best thing to do is see the video for yourself to enjoy and be captivated by an amazing song and a superb exercise in cinematography. Portugal, Portugal, Portugal, one day I will visit you!! It’s a bit curious, poetic and marvelous that the hidden track on “Cicely Tonight Volume One”, the EP that comes with TREMBLING BLUE STARS seventh disc, is that final declaration called “No More Sad Songs”. A great truth is hidden behind it, painful and chilling. After leaving the scene in 2005, Bobby Wratten’s band definitively stopped their activity, with an album that seems more like a miracle than a farewell. And that is because the songs on it melt between the fragile beauty and that magical melodic capacity belonging to the leader of unforgettable bands like THE FIELD MICE and NORTHERN PICTURE LIBRARY (who are more vindicated and adored every day by the new wave of indie groups all over the world, from THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART to PAPA TOPO), rebelling against the evanescence of the flame while throwing its life force into the [ Read more ]

JUNIPER MOON have been one of Elefant’s most internationally-known groups, who, sadly, broke up in 2005 in what was probably their most definitive moment. Their only disc, “El Resto de Mi Vida”, and songs like “¿Volveráscategoría” (played with unusual frequency by the illustrious Steve Lamacq on his BBC program), “Superstar” (included on the “Looking for Chencho” soundtrack) and the very “El Resto de Mi Vida” (which was included on one of the prestigious compilations by the music store chain Rough Trade) were praised wherever they were heard, in Spain, Europe, Asia…, highlighting their energy, their personality and the urgent force of their punk-pop melodies. And as proof, we have this album, released exclusively for the Japanese market, but we’ve got a few copies so that the group’s fans don’t get left without this amazing collection of songs.

On this CD you can find all of the group’s singles, as well as a good collection of extras and unreleased tracks, like demos, songs from compilations, live versions and outtakes, for a total of 24 songs. The result perfectly captures that feeling of eternal youth, scruff and vitality, euphoria and overflowing energy, on an album that will convince the uninitiated as much as it will thrill the fans and collectors. As Sean Tyler, one of the people in charge of Rough Trade, already commented about the debut album by the grou [ Read more ]

It’s finally in our hands, after that appetizer of “Mr. Shoji” (danceable hit with Jamaican airs, Rockdelux magazine’s best song of 2009), the highly anticipated second disc by SINGLE, the group led by Teresa Iturrioz and Ibon Errazkin. And now that we’ve got the disc in our hands, we can say that we are holding the most complete, consistent, enduring and highest achieving disc of their career. Saying something like that, in Teresa and Ibon’s case, is saying quite a lot.

Anyone who knows the cult-following they had fronting LE MANS will find some clues on this disc that connect this mythical past to the splendorous future that has opened up before them with this new project. If “Pío pío”, SINGLE’s first album, was a collecting of songs written over a period of years, experimenting with new formats, rhythms and programs, and forging a new path with their untiring curiosity, “Monólogo interior” is a more classic and compact album, without a conceptual story but definitely with a more intimate focus, even introspective on occasions. The album has an abundance of images that evoke feelings of loss and nostalgia and it is less decidedly rhythmic.

Don’t get me wrong, that doesn’t mean that the fun, danceable rhythms that were part of what made the first disc so spectacular have been put to the side: there’s the dreamy, orchestral rhythm of “Fotos”, the futuri [ Read more ]

ELEFANT is listed among the top five “Single Clubs” of the decade by the American blog Pitchfork, which is one of the leading sources of information for independent music fans.

Elefant Record’s disappeared Club del Single released, from 1996 to 2001, a total of 69 vinyl singles from some of the most important artists of the international indie scene at the time – English groups, Japanese, Spanish, French, Argentine, German, Australian, American, Chinese and Swedish groups all formed a part of our select Club del Single and they gave us exclusive songs on glorious 7-inch vinyl that all of our Club del Single members were able to enjoy. Artists like JACK, LE MANS, MAGOO, QUICKSPACE, THE CLIENTELE, FUGU, Ana D, BMX BANDITS, LAMBCHOP, FRANK BLAKE (a project from TEENAGE FANCLUB’s Norman Blake and BMX BANDIT’s Francis Macdonald), THE FRANK AND WALTERS, ISAN, THE LADYBUG TRANSISTOR, ST CHRISTOPHER, GONZALES, Ally Kerr, CRANES, SING SING (Emma Anderson’s project after LUSH), VACACIONES, IBON ERRAZKIN, SR CHINARRO and LOS FRESONES REBELDES among many others, took part in this adventure that fought to maintain as special a format as the vinyl single, a format that had given so many good moments to the history of music ever since the 50’s, and that in the 90’s had found itself totally cornered by the CD, and even seemed like the vinyl single’s days were numbered.

Being on the best Single Clubs list gives us a ton of energy, es [ Read more ]

In a summer as suffocatingly hot as the one we’re having right now, one of the best remedies is definitely PAPA TOPO’s new video. Their youthfulness, their talent, their catchy melodies and lyrics are the most refreshing thing, and their new video is super-refreshing and summery. “Lo Que Me Gusta del Verano Es Poder Tomar Helado” was directed by Lluís Prieto (Llaüt Digital), a young producer from Mallorca who already gave proof of his talent in the group’s first video, the tremendously famous “Oso Panda”. Lluís is back to play in a fun way, with an explosion of colors; dreamy, cinematographic imagery; mixing and playing with fiction and reality in the ample universe that surrounds PAPA TOPO, without a doubt the best new indie group of 2010.

Since they put their first songs online, PAPA TOPO became one of the groups with the most online searches, one of the most talked about in blogs and forums of all kinds, almost overnight. The power of the internet made it clear how far they could go and their demos were cherished. When their debut single “Oso Panda” came out, it quickly made its way around the world and didn’t last a week in stores, selling out as if it were an item of prime necessity in the midst of an intergalactic war. The video was another online boom, and had more than 20,000 views just a few hours after going up on YouTube. After just one day it had already received 9 awards on the m [ Read more ]
