YO, TAMBIÉN [a new movie by Álvaro Pastor and Antonio Naharro, starring Lola Dueñas and Pablo Pineda]

The passion we feel for music at Elefant is something logical and evident, but from the start we have also been involved in and collaborated on artistic projects that go beyond the musical realm but that also need music to complete and fill out the work and make it more personal. A few years ago, our passion for the movies brought about the creation of “Elefant Music Supervision”, a project that has taken shape over time, with the goal of helping and collaborating on audiovisual projects of all kinds, offering musical supervision that would help the creators find the perfect music for their work. Shorts, documentaries, movies, commercial spots, television theme songs… we have found ourselves involved, sometimes directly, other times more indirectly, in a ton of national and international audiovisual projects that have used music from our company or projects that we have created with our artists’ exclusive pieces. International television series like “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Desperate Housewives”, “The O.C.”, “Summerland”, “Gilmore Girls”, “Ghost Whisperer”, “Degrassi”, “Chop shop”, “Exes & Ohs”, “One Tree Hill” or the imminent new HBO series “Bored to Death” all use music from Elefant Records on [ Read more ]

We already announced a few weeks ago that one of the most incredible festivals in the international panorama, the British Indietracks, had decided to pay homage to Elefant Records for their 20th anniversary, letting us organize the main stage in honor of the occasion. So, the line-up is finally, definitely confirmed, and pay attention because the two last-minute confirmations are spectacular: first, STEREO TOTAL, the French-German electro-pop duo and one of the most exciting bands you can see live; and second, the Sunday headliners are TEENAGE FANCLUB. The band of Norman Blake, author of such enduring hymns as “Sparky’s dream” and “The concept”, and of incomparable discs like “Thirteen”, “Grand Prix” and “Bandwagonesque”, will play us a set with their greatest hits that will serve as a culmination of one of the most amazing weeks we could have ever dreamed of. Groups that are also on the confirmed list are CAMERA OBSCURA, AU REVOIR SIMONE, LA CASA AZUL, COOPER, BMX BANDITS, LUCKY SOUL, THE FRANK AND WALTERS, Rose Ellinor Dougall, SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, COLA JET SET, THE SCHOOL, TENDER TRAP, FITNESS FOREVER, Nick Garrie, MODULAR, SUCRETTE and DJ POLAR. The indie event of the season, the meeting point for all lovers of the most immediate and refreshing pop, at which there will be dozens of concerts, sessions, workshops, parties… You already know, July 24th to 26th in Butterley (Derbyshire county). ELEFANT RECORDS TURNS 20 [1989-2009]

We’re going to England to celebrate our 20th anniversary at the Indietracks Festival, and the same weekend in Spain the ContemPopranea Festival will also be celebrating our birthday by paying homage to our label!

The Indyspensable festival in Madrid gave us the incredible gift of dedicating an entire day to Elefant this past June 12th, and other festivals like Fuengirola Pop Weekend or Lemon Pop will pay special homage to our label in their next editions of the festivals.

We want to thank everyone for having always been behind us! We feel really happy to have lasted all these years with our philosophy and way of understanding the music world, helping groups that excite us, who are on the sidelines of trends and the industry. None of this would have been possible without the label’s FANS, who have supported us all these years. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!

THE INDIETRACKS FESTIVAL (UK) PAYS HOMAGE TO ELEFANT RECORDS FOR THEIR TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY BY GIVING US CONTROL OF THE MAIN STAGE! [JULY 24-25-26, Midland Railway, Butterley – Derbyshire, England]

At this stage of the game, it’s clear that the Internet’s popularity as a means of music distribution has caused a proliferation of unusual and really interesting proposals, that have allowed music to reach thousands (or millions, in some cases) of computers through nothing more than telephone wires. The birth of unknown gems, the sudden appearance of dozens of those secrets named “out loud”, has diversified and enriched the musical panorama considerably. MODULAR is an Argentine duo formed in 2000 by Mariana Badaracco and Pablo Dahy. The group is a strange bird in and of itself in the Buenos Aires scene; their affinity for analog synthesizers (the famous “Moog Modular” gave them their name), the B-series and 60s science-fiction esthetic, the pop and lounge, as well as their imaginary mix of melancholic psychedelia and spatial fantasy have made them stand out as unique in a scene accustomed to more rock-oriented and less sophisticated options. Four demos released on CD-Rs and distributed via the web, collaborations on various compilations in countries as diverse as Germany or Brazil, a collection of truly unique compositions – these have been the things that have generated a plethora of fans who have compared the group to the likes of STEREOLAB, OS MUTANTES, BROADCAST, John Barry, THE HIGH LLAMAS, URSULA 1000, Giorgio Moroder, George Gershwin and many more. Maybe the closest comparison is Laetitia Sadier and Tim Gane’s group, [ Read more ]

The British festival Indietracks is paying homage to Elefant Records for our twentieth birthday, giving us control of the organization of the main stage as a present. Indietracks, whose third edition will take place July 24th, 25th and 26th in an old railway station in Butterley (Derbyshire county), has turned into a worldwide, can’t-miss event for fans of the best of indie pop, having brought such bands as Darren Hayman (HEFNER), THE WEEDING PRESENT, COMET GAIN and LOS CAMPESINOS! to previous editions. This year the leap in the festival’s importance and size is considerable, with a total of five stages and an incredible quantity of bands and DJs. That’s why Elefant has been so conscientious (and this is the first time an independent Spanish label organizes a stage at an international festival) to choose unforgettable names, many of which are still unrevealed surprises, including a headliner. Among a mix of bands from the label, friends, and suggestions that we have fallen irrevocably in love with and that have served as an inspiration for Elefant, twenty artists will play on the Elefant stage over the three days of the festival, and here we’re telling you in advance about the first confirmations: CAMERA OBSCURA, AU REVOIR SIMONE, BMX BANDITS, Rose Elinor Dougall, THE FRANK & WALTERS, FITNESS FOREVER, THE SCHOOL, Nick Garrie, LUCKY SOUL, SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, COOPER, LA CASA AZUL (in their only concert this year), COLA JET SET, SUCRETTE, TENDER T [ Read more ]

We’re finally opening our own YouTube channel! There was tons and tons of material to put up (and really, there’s still so much more), and Internet users can finally subscribe to the Elefant Records page on the most famous and visited video website in the world, which can be accessed from this web address: http://www.youtube.com/elefantrecords

For the channel’s official inauguration we’ve put up various new videos, some previously unreleased. You can enjoy the exclusive new video-clip of CORAZON’s “Nuevo Futuro” or SPEEDMARKET’s newest single, “No Drama”, which will be released in July and which we’re releasing the splendid new video-clip of in advance. There are a ton of LA CASA AZUL videos, plus interviews, live videos, reports… but the most exciting thing, for the moment, is definitely the video-clip of the English version of “La Revolution Sexual”. You can also find reports and interviews with COOPER that you most certainly haven’t seen, as well as three songs recorded live for the MySpace special, including the song “Mi Universo”, which is a completely new song not even included on Alex‘s latest work, “Aeropuerto”.

We have more than 100 video-clips from Elefant groups available (yes, all the videos from LA CASA AZUL, COOPER, CAMERA OBSCURA, NOSOTRÄSH, SINGLE, HEAVENLY, LOS FLECHAZOS, LUCKY SOUL, LA BIEN QUERIDA …) and a ton of extra pr [ Read more ]

There is no other group like SINGLE. Simply put, they have no equal. It is a group that is capable of constantly reinventing itself without losing its absolutely recognizable personality. This is a musical project that has no limits other than its own curiosity, concern and excitement about finding new paths. Sometimes intimate and beautiful, other times – like this song here – fun and danceable.

“Mr Shoji” is the new song from SINGLE after three EP’s and an album that has placed Teresa Iturrioz and Ibon Errazin’s project in the sights of fans of the most innovative pop. In this new song, which is already a crowd favorite in their concerts, SINGLE come riding in on a contagious new synthetic rhythm that brings Jamaica together with Chicago. The ragamuffin and the blues unite in an incredibly natural way that is made stronger by the pop spirit that always fills their productions. In the best Jamaican tradition, the B-side of this vinyl single (the original pop format, which gives privilege to the songs and pays homage to the sound systems) is a dub version of the title track, in which Ibon Errazkin’s genius is even more noticeable. This is live, advanced and tremendously modern pop. Different from everything else, but without losing its familiarity.

For the occasion, SINGLE asked the very Mr. Shoji to make the video-clip for the song name after him. Mr. Shoji is no other than Japanese DJ Rootsseker, who has been living in Spain for s [ Read more ]

Elefant has the privilege of finally releasing the debut album of LA BIEN QUERIDA, the stage name of Ana Fernández-Villaverde. It is one of the most anticipated albums of Spanish indie-pop in recent years due to the enormous impression that her demo made, both in the press (chosen best of 2007 by Mondo Sonoro and highlighted by Rockdelux) and with the public (her myspace page, with more than 125,000 listens, is one of the most visited pages for an artist who hasn’t released an album). Even among other musicians (not only are J from LOS PLANETAS, David from BEEF and LA BUENA VIDA fans, Antonio Luque of SR CHINARRO even lent her his band in her first concerts. LA BIEN QUERIDA recorded “Romancero” with David Rodríguez (BEEF), fitting the creativity that David shows in his solo project LA ESTRELLA DE DAVID with the clean sounds and sweet voice in her marvelous songs. And it’s a magical union of charming melodies with stratospheric arrangements and a unique production that mixes flamenco, Arab music, rancheras and even techno, turning every song into a small work of art, with a moving capacity to reach your heart , and lyrics that are as sincere as they are intelligent. This is, without a doubt, a disc that will make history.

CORAZÓN are Carlos López (vocals) and Nando Quesada (vocals, guitar and programs), a romantic and melancholy pop duo that made us fall in love with them in 2005 with their superb debut “Melodrama”. Their second album demonstrates a solid maturity. “Nuevo Futuro” shines with the fantastic production of Ibon Errazkin, who is responsible for other classic albums on the Elefant label like NOSOTRÄSH’s “Popemas”, Carlos Berlanga’s “Impermeable”, ANA D’s “Satelite 99” or the albums of SINGLE and LE MANS. Additionally, there are stellar collaborations from Teresa Iturrioz (SINGLE) and Malela Durán (NOSOTRÄSH, GRANDE-MARLASKA) on the choruses, or Rafael Guillermo of POP TOPS on the piano. Errazkin achieves a jeweled masterpiece with varied and distinct sounds and original textures, looking for spaces to make the songs special with details and extraordinary arrangements. But the best thing about the album are the twelve superb songs. The compositions are outside the limits of any one style, they are full of elegance and good taste – delicious pop with charming harmonies that could sound like standard light music with someone else’s voice. It’s all feeling, with beautiful and sincere lyrics. CORAZÓN dares to make classic melodic pop, bolero-pop and sentimental melodrama; they reinvent the artistic spirit of VAINICA DOBLE with their own originality a [ Read more ]

“I don’t think airports are transient places. For me, they are a starting point and a final destination. Origin and destination. Start and finish. The beginning of an adventure, that seems full of feelings and experiences to still to discover, or the end of the road, that asks you to go over everything you’ve experienced since you started out. I like to think that this album is like that: a one-way ticket for those who don’t already know COOPER and also a photo album to look back over these last years for those who have traveled with us”. This is how Alex Díez explains the title of the new album, third as COOPER, but really there’s a lot more to it than just a new point of inflection: this is an impeccable collection of songs, carved out of singles (how the great pop albums are made), singles that habitually topped the sales lists (“Lemon Pop” was at the top of the AFYVE lists), as well as the story of five years in the career of one of the most important artists on the Spanish scene. Which is to say nothing about the four new songs that the man who was the spotlight of LOS FLECHAZOS gives us here: “Hyde Park” might be the most direct and uncontestable hit that Alejandro has written since COOPER began, with a chorus that gets just as easily into our subconscious (get ready to wake up whistling it every morning) as it does into our hips (soon to be played in all the bars); “El Sueño” i [ Read more ]

The events that Elefant is organizing to celebrate our 20th anniversary as a record label this 2009 are beginning. And pay attention because this first date is going to have a lot to lure you in with. This coming Friday, March 27th, in the Ocho y Medio club in Madrid, we can enjoy the cocktail of incredible offers that will make the night one of the must deliciously fun nights for everyone there. And we’ve got so many reasons to say that.

The night will begin at 22:00 with the projection of the latest Elefant video-clips. And as if there weren’t already enough reasons to arrive swiftly and promptly, the first 100 people to arrive will be given SPEEDMARKET AVENUE limited edition 7” singles in delicious colored vinyl.

A few days ago we talked about the incredible success of the second album of the Swedish group SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, “Way Better Now”, whose songs have been chosen as single of the week by media and journalists as important as Steve Lamacq (many say he’s John Peel’s successor) or Radio Q (the well-known Q magazine’s radio media). Well, they’ll finally be playing in Madrid on this first spring Friday, confirming their status as one of the most attractive groups from the international indie panorama. Sharing the stage with SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, and opening the show, LES TRES BIEN ENSEMBLE will present the songs from the precious and marvelous second album, “Rougeole”.

And after the concerts there ar [ Read more ]
