After three intense years since their debut album, "Doux-Amer," they have not stopped for a minute. Have you heard Suzette on the EP "Sing Along With the ACID HOUSE KINGS" from the Swedish group, ACID HOUSE KINGS (another one of Johan’s groups- from CLUB 8 and THE LEGENDS) or their song "A Hélène" in the "Blancolor" three year campaign of the Spanish store, El Corte Ingléscategoría; Maybe you saw them live at the Benicassim Festival or the Lemon Pop Festival in Murcia or on television when they played "Live Concerts for Radio 3," or maybe you were one of their die-hard fans who traveled to England to follow their mini-tour with THE WOULD-BE GOODS, with excellent performances in London, Nottingham and Oxford. Perhaps you saw them live in France. LES TRÈS BIEN ENSEMBLE are back with a new album which should mean a peak in their musical career. With the new incorporation of Charles Gasqué, the one and only Carlos Andreu (GASCA), the band from Barcelona has put out an exquisite piece of work of unique pop, where it is precisely the time of leitmotif which pushes and inspires the majority of songs on this album.  "The title, "Rougeole" (“measles” in French) makes reference to something that only time can heal. Time means life and death all at once, something out of human control which inexplicably advances to a particular destiny. "Rougeole" talks ab [ Read more ]

“Esta noche sólo cantan para mí” is among Guille Milkyway’s best songwriting, a perfect tune that mixes desperation with euphoria, love and passion for music with the most ruthless and sweetest sadness. Showing how a song or a record can become a shelter in the most difficult moments, it is the tribute born from the heart and respect for those girls who lighted up pop music history, many times almost from the background, but always present in Guille Milkyway’s mind as true muses for his music work and an absolute remedy in his cold winter nights. It is everyone’s fave song, even for Guille: as he makes clear in many of his shows when he presents it, he feels a special affection for it, truly deserved because “Esta noche sólo cantan para mí” is a great song in every sense… an air so near to 70s disco classics, the luminous and magnificent chorus, and above all the lyrics, so sincere and sad, so heartbreaking and liberating at the same time, so close and real, so attractive and perfect; and that immense contradiction music is sometimes, where something completely oppressive, grey and hard becomes something extraordinary and full of joy, ecstatic at times and even optimistic at core: that’s the magic of music and particularly the magic of Guille Milkyway.

The video had to reflect in a special way all this mix of feelings and, as always, Domingo González has been able to understand it and ca [ Read more ]

Since their formation in 1997, LA MONJA ENANA, never cease to surprise us with the most bizarre and amazing talent that any Spanish indie group could possibly possess.  Their debut single was nothing more and nothing less than “Single of the Week” in the prestigious English magazine, Melody Maker, and the deceased and adored John Peel sang their praises each time he played one of LA MONJA ENANA’s songs on the air. Meanwhile, Americans learned Spanish in schools and universities listening to tunes of LA MONJA ENANA. Throughout this period, the group journeyed off to tour Russia. Performances in Paris and Stockholm, collaborations with numerous bands; television appearances and the presence in a multitude of diverse events and unique festivals … craziness to the max! All of this, with just two singles out and some songs distributed on v [ Read more ]

"Beverly" is the new and incredible release of our idols from Austin. Recorded in the same sessions as their previous release with Eric Wofford in Cacophony Studios, these new tracks will be put out in the typical 50’s and 60’s format: on a vinyl single of four songs, a format that Elefant has always adored and vindicated. "Beverly" is the perfect teenage hymn, with the “pa-ra-pa-pa-pas” being one of the most addictive lines in ages and it also could be the perfect song to dance to on prom night. It’s probably the sharpest and most refined of their songs released to date, with some parts sounding like THE SUPREMES and LUCKY SOUL. "Kissing and Telling" starts out sounding like THE EARLY BROTHERS coming back to give us the gift of their best song ever, but all of a sudden, GIRLFRENDO rings out in the horizon, with their energetic, young and vibrant outbursts. "I Tried to Call You" (a cover of their friend’s band from Austin, BASIC LO-FI) sounds like THE WOULD-BE-GOODS acting out a detective story directed by Al Pacino, while "Gloria" goes hand in hand with BELLE & SEBASTIAN and THE ESSEX GREEN. In conclusion, four songs which should put this band on the map as an example of the product of modernizing a traditional pop sound, basing it all on a hip, mega-vitamin project filled with ungraceful elegance and juvenile imagination. Not very complicated but a lot of song. Some call it inspir [ Read more ]

LA CASA AZUL will lend a very special touch of colour to Wednesday nights on TV3 (TV channel from Catalonia).  Wednesday June 4th will see the premiere of the quiz show "Els 25", beginning with the first chords of "Vull saber-ho tot de tu", the new super-hit by LA CASA AZUL. Guille Milkyway‘s new composition is theme song to the programme and also serves as connecting thread along all the different stages of the show. Hosted by Judit Mascó, the aim is to award the contestant with the best knowledge of the channel’s history. "Vull saber-ho tot de tu" concentrates all the magic ingredients in LA CASA AZUL’s songwriting: an explosive and catchy melody, outstanding arrangements, references to disco music and lyrics –for the first time written in Catalan– around the world of television.

A little time ago we announced from East to West, full of euphoria and illusion, that SINGLE would throw themselves fully onto the stages to present their excellent songs live. Their shows have amazed us all: the mise-en-scène is elegant, original, well cared for and completely apart from what we’re used to experience in venues; something unique and really special. Everyone who has been to any of the band’s live shows knows what we’re talking about. The next step in SINGLE’s career was their premiere in Paris,  nowhere else than in the New Casino, in a night held by the Magic magazine (the coolest music magazine in France, that had SINGLE on their front page), sharing the stage with Valérie Leulliot (singer in AUTOUR DE LUCIE, who opened for them and presented her new songs backed by an acoustic trio) and with illustrious guest DJ Bertrand Burgalat (musician, producer and visible head of the Tricatel label) at the decks. The result, in a country where SINGLE are even more popular and admired than in their own land, was most moving. The French audience surrendered themselves to the band’s charms; SINGLE proved their mastery and elegance onstage and left a delicious taste for the exquisite and demanding Parisian palates. The proof is in the pudding:

Christophe Basterra (director of the Magic magazine):"Yes, last Sunday May 18th there was, amongst the audience that had come to the New Casino, a lot of curiosity and longing to [ Read more ]

Elefant Records will put out the second album of the Swedes SPEEDMARKET AVENUE titled "Way better now". With the amazing production of Jari Haapalainen (producer of ED HARCOURT, INTERNATIONAL NOISE CONSPIRACY, THE CONCRETES and CAMERA OBSCURA, among others), the band from Norrkoping, who self-describes themselves as "a pop music collective led by a little guy who looks like a cross between Charles Manson and Marc Bolan,” have created an album filled with emotional and precious pop melodies decorated in a non-conventional way, with imaginative arrangements where pop leaves room for intense shoegaze sceneries, breaths of punk-pop riffs, melodies of echoes from the sixties and jangle-pop with beautiful string arrangements; All of this performed with freshness and emotion creating a collection of songs with multiple and varying connections: MY BLOODY VALENTINE, THE ESSEX GREEN, THE SMITHS, SLOWDIVE, THE CURE, THE RAW HERBS, THE RAZORCUTS, THE LUCKSMITHS, THE RONETTES, BELLE & SEBASTIAN, THE TRASH CAN SINATRAS, CAMERA OBSCURA… “Way better now,” the song which is also the title of the album, will be out in April in a stunning white Vinyl Single which will feature the advanced release of this title song and the second album of SPEEDMARKET AVENUE will be out on May. THE CARROTS is the latest group to be signed to Elefant Records, a six piece group from Austin, Texas which play mega-melodic pop inspired by the girl groups of the sixties like THE SUPREMES, THE ANGELS, THE SHIRELLES and THE SHANGRILA’S. The members also play in other indie groups from their city (VOXTROT, FINALLY PUNK, GENE DEFCON, THE PRIMA DONNAS, and dozens more!). They met in 2005 through an ad placed in myspace by Veronica Ortuno (vocals), who looked for people to play in a group like THE RONETTES, THE COOKIES and THE CRYSTALS. That’s when the six-some became a family  (now with eight members for their live shows) with Jennifer Moore (keyboard and vocals), Chris Lyons (bass), Jason Chef Pittman (drums), Erin Budd (backup vocals) and Stephanie Chan (guitar and backup vocals). After their first performance in South by Southwest (SXSW), one of the most important festivals in the United States, and the recording of their first demos, their existence reached the radar of Elefant Records. Fascinated by their sound and their delicious songs, we decided to immediately sign them. Finally, after a lot of hard work, in 2008 their first single will come out. They survived a very intense 2007 recording with Eric Wofford in Cacophony Studio (a studio where people like Bill Callahan, FRIENDS OF DEAN MARTINEZ, MY MORNING JACKET, OKKERVIL RIVER, SHEARWATER and VOXTROT recorded, among others), which had to be interrupted due to the enormous amount of shows and othe [ Read more ]

Let it slip [2008]ER-373 CD-Single Digipak

Only some weeks after letting you know about this amazing new band from Cardiff and their wonderful debut single, “All I wanna do”, now it’s time to confirm the commotion and clamour their songs are creating amongst the music press and 50s girl-group fans. Rough Trade compares them to Kirsty McColl and CAMERA OBSCURA, Hipersonica to BELLE & SEBASTIAN and THE BEACH BOYS, New York newspaper The Village Voice turns them into a magical daydream of THE RONETTES, weblog Parallax View makes them single of the week and Pitchfork considers them relatives to Phil Spector‘s wall of sound. And let’s not forget about the two radio sessions the band has recorded for British BBC: the first one, last February, for Bethan Elfyn‘s show on Radio 1, and their second appearance live on the BBC by mid-March, this time for Marc Riley. After such enthusiastic reactions, we cannot do other than euphorically annouce that their second single, “Let it slip”, has been released. Born from the same sessions that resulted in “All I wanna do”, and with Ian Catt (SAINT ETIENNE, TREMBLING BLUE STARS, NOSOTRÄSH, THE FIELD MICE, SHAMPOO, THE BOO RADLEYS, Kahimi Karie) on production duties, this new single holds four delightful songs: “Let it slip” (which gives the single its name), “I don’t believe in love”, “I want you back” y “Shoulder”. "Way better now", the advance track taken from the forthcoming second album by this Swedish band, has been selected by prestigious BBC radio host Steve Lamacq as single of the week on his daily BBC 6 Music show. Mondays to Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m., Steve Lamacq hosts one of the most interesting and up-to-date British radio shows. A former NME writer, creator of Deceptive Records (yes, he discovered ELASTICA!), and currently in charge of various radio programmes on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 1 y BBC Radio 2, renowned for his ability to discover new talents, he has been swept away by the energy and vitaminic chorus in this track produced by Jari Haapalainen (Producer of ED HARCOURT, THE BEART QUARTET, THE CONCRETES or CAMERA OBSCURA, among others) that Elefant Records has just released on a beautiful white vinyl single. There’s an obvious reason why it’s conquering Britain (not only Lammo, as John Peel nicknamed him, has surrendered to this great single: many others count themselves in), as it starts to win the United States (where they’re compared to other Nordic bands such as the SHOUT OUT LOUDS) and Spain (“A Matter of Sex”, the comedy series from Cuatro TV, includes the song in its soundtrack). A song where Sibille and Isak sing urgently, taken by the electricity of guitars that fire from the very beginning of the song, never pushing down the level, thrusting a song that would undoubtedly shine in THE ESSEX GREEN’s craziest repertoi [ Read more ]

We have been waiting for the tour of the presentation of “Pío Pío” (similar to the wait to see Teresa and Ibon in concert. 12 years past and we were not sure if we were going to see them on a stage again!), but the wait has proved to be fruitful. Up until now, all of the concerts have been a success and have been well worth the wait. The official live presentation in the venue El Sol in Madrid was packed and the concert was marvelous as Teresa shined like never before, with Ibon on guitar, Tito’s voice and Joan’s keyboarding. Classics from their repertoire, new versions of popular songs, B sides and above all, balls of laughter on and off the stage. After confirming their next concert in the Festival Internacional de Benicàssim, SINGLE just announced their first concert outside of the Spanish borders: next Sunday May 18th in the venue Nouveau Casino of Paris, the French audience is in for a real treat, which many fans have waited anxiously for this moment for years. These fans have not only followed loyally from the beginning of SINGLE, yet since the days of LE MANS. One sees this even more since the prestigious magazine, Magic, dedicated an entire cover (and a ten page article!) to the release of the album there. We expect them to visit other countries with strong solid fan support soon. Meanwhile, these are the confirmed upcoming live shows of SINGLE:
