It has been too long since we had news from Giorgio Tuma. We haven’t had any new songs from the Italian author since “This Life Denied Me Your Love”, although that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been active. Before the world sank into a pandemic, Giorgio had put together a bossa nova and Brazilian music tribute band called WE LOVE GILBERTO, with an important lead role from the singer Clarissa Rustico. This ultimately led to Giorgio returning to the studio for one last EP, that we get an advance of with this “Creation Of My Ghosts”, where he warms our hearts with this reminder of his delicate harmonies, his delicious melodies, his exotic arrangements, the overflowing fantasy and caress of his songs. Some of them, like this one, are magistral exercises in escapism. And for this return, we have a lyric video by Pooley (Woom Studio), where he shows off his exquisite esthetic taste again, perfect for Giorgio Tuma’s music, and here it is inspired by the cover art, with a certain dreamy, psychedelic tone, increasing the feeling of unreality, of marvelous hallucination, that this Italian genius’ music transports you to. It is a banquet of pleasure.

We will never get tired of saying it. There have been key artists throughout history, and they reached this status because of their ability to read the times they live in and deconstruct and process them, regurgitate them and create beauty, reflection, excitement and impact. Each new step that Chenta Tsai takes gives us the feeling of being two kilometers ahead. This is especially admirable in these fast, urgent, lightspeeding times, when it is difficult to settle down and get comfortable because once you do you realize you aren’t keeping up. And now PUTOCHINOMARICÓN is here with an immense, prodigious project, made up of four albums that are a part of a project called “SMHD (Arte Contenido)” (acronym for Seconds Minutes Hours Days).

The project comes from the conflict that currently exists between the definition of content creator and artist, the search for authenticity in a context of cloned identities. That’s where the concept of “Arte Contenido” (Content Art) comes from, which drives the [ Read more ]

What an EP Celia Spellman is getting ready for us, for her NENAS debut on Elefant. If “Fuckboys” and “xfa” already made clear her ability to build both a musical and lyrical language without ever losing sight of the dance floor, here we get another piece in advance of the upcoming EP with “Nuevos Heteros”, an immeasurable electronic pop and europop hit. But what really stands out on “Nuevos Heteros” is its hilarious lyrics, full of cynicism and impertinence, full of unforgettable lines. The chorus itself pleads: “Los nuevos heteros / Ya no van de duros / Sólo quieren ser modernos” (The new heteros / Don’t try to be tough anymore / They just want to be hipsters) and then sprinkles in gems like “Todos quieren ser las reinas / De la nueva virilidad / Eyeliner y purpurina / Todo mal, todo mal” (They all want to be queens / Of the new virility / Eyeliner and glitter / So bad, so bad) or “OMG vas amazing / Te veo luego en el gym, bitch / Mi cabeza sólo quiere estallar / Por tu falsa ambigüedad” (OMG you look ah-mazing / See you later at the gym, bitch / My head wants to explode / From your false ambiguity). Absolutely fabulous. An explosion that lasts two quick minutes that we need to play on repeat again and again. And the next thing to come is the complete EP; get ready because “Diario Secreto” is coming.

TELECLUB has new songs. After two outstanding hits like “Xiki Yokse” and “Mi Crush Del Autobús”, they’re back with “El Karry” as an advance of a new 4-song EP that will be called “Recordarás Mi Nombre”. Drum machines, synthesizers, synth-pop, electropop. And, of course, guitars with distortion and overflowing euphoria. In fact, that’s what “El Karry” talks about – a Saturday night that starts off like any other Saturday night and ends up being something special, unique, unforgettable. And they really get it right with the melodies, this time with a bubble gum spirit and that chorus to sing at the top of your lungs “Salir con mis amigas al Karry, hoy” (Go out with my friends to Karry, tonight), which is exactly what they recorded on their phones with their whole crew the night this song was born. Because, who said you can’t combine going out and writing songs at the same timecategoría

And with this single, there is a music video that matches the theme perfectly: a three-minute long “The Hangover”, psychedelic, comic, surreal, where one of our protagonists, after a day of partying, tries to reconstruct what happened the previous night. It is a song meant to be an anthem, that can win over fans of ALIZZZ as well as of 9CKLES, and where the production by LEFTEE (Toxic Pop, LABORDE, NEVVER) and the cover art, again by Olaya (AXOLOTES [ Read more ]

We continue to reveal, little by little, what is going to be Carlos CARABALLO’ solo debut album, after having enjoyed “Déjame Vivir” and “Tu Puñal”. Now we have “Atrás En El Tiempo” where we can confirm the free spirit that Carlos is approaching this personal project with, playing with different aspects of pop and more current sounds, but always from the author’s personal and uniquely identifiable perspective. This balance between excitement and addiction, and the elusiveness and unpredictability that has us convinced that this debut album is going to be one of the biggest things in 2023. There is also a visual aspect involved, and Bandiz Studio once again gives us something imaginative and surreal, where our protagonist travels back and forth through time (just like the song’s title says) while walking down a busy street, which leads to all sorts of situations and strangely marvelous effects. Amazing. And we keep getting closer to having this debut in our hands.

Biography CARABALLO

The side of Carlos Caraballo we see within COLECTIVO DA SILVA exalts that part of the music that is for parties and celebration, a boy band from Granada full of freshness and fun. CARABALLO is his personal project, full of introspection and uncertainty. That’s why this is something much more open, that plays with hyper-pop, techno-pop, psychedelia and R&B, with [ Read more ]

Celia Spellman continues to share songs from her upcoming first EP under the name of NENAS. And if just a few weeks ago we were going crazy over “Fuckboys”, now it’s time for “xfa”. This is an ultra-danceable track, full of euro disco and techno-pop, with a catchy, addictive chorus, that at the same time tackles the topic of social anxiety head on. How hard it is to find love when you panic just look that special person in their eyes. When you seek refuge in fantasy, and social networks become a means of spying that eats away at your soul. As Celia herself says: “xfa is like a cry for help from a dolphin trapped in a tank”.

The music video, new work from Celia together with Yana Zafiro, DETROIT and Luis Bastida through their brand-new production company, Polígono, in which Celia continues to play with the mystery of her identity, uses contrasts between childishness and darkness, challenging the camera in a fight to the death. Obviously, she always wins the fight. And by extension, so do we.

After “Ultravioleta”, Diego, Raquel and Sara make it clear that they are in an important state of inspiration, and while they are getting new releases ready, they are giving us this single where they once again lay out the keys that have defined their first steps with Elefant Records: ultra-eighties synth-pop, lustrous production with sinuous lyrics, and vocals that turn everything they play into anthems. That’s what “Géminis Y Sagitario” is – a song that plays with the esotericism and symbolism of the superstition about talking about confusing relationships, about how people sometimes complicate life when they look for love. But here there are a few things that grab our attention: that Beatles-esque psychedelic bridge with close ties to 60s California sunshine pop that Guille Milkyway likes so much, and how the end of the song turns toward hope and light. No matter what, it’s a new song to make Saturday nights (or any other night) shine. And to think of all the things that are still to come.

We are running out of adjectives for Guille Milkyway and his capacity to build a beyond perfect repertoire of songs beat by beat, knowing how to assimilate new trends without ever betraying his own spirit that flies somewhere between hyper-melodic pop and the most euphoric dance music. But his latest single, “Prometo No Olvidar” is another example of his unfailing aim, like a 100.000-piece puzzle full of small details that makes something difficult seem easy. A perfect chorus, explosions of energy (like that cover illustration), DAFT PUNK, Cerrone and THE WEEKND, endless nights, vocoders and autotune. And that feeling that to live in his music is to live in an infinite paradise, which he has been building brick by brick, helping us forget about the world as it is and believe that there are better places out there. And anyone who has been to that paradise (in their house, on the dance floor, or in one of his marvelous concerts) can never forget it. And we still have that yearning, anxiously awaiting that new album that promises to be a new landmark in Spanish pop music. The timeless LA CASA AZUL.

The world feels like a better place when you listen to Maria Rodés sing. Her latest album, “Fuimos Los Dos” has been one of the biggest releases of 2022, praised by audiences and critics, included on the year’s best of lists in tons of different media. And we still have some of her most marvelous moments to pull out. Specifically, the title track is one of those moments. The song has echoes of frontiers, flamenco details and that Peruvian flute in the chorus that makes it sound like a Peruvian western. TINDERSTICKS, CALEXICO, Lily & Madeleine, Chabuca Granda, Judee Sill, influences that Maria puts together with moderation, integrity, precious arrangements and delicate vocal interpretations. Passionate, beautiful, exquisite. With a chorus that brings tears to the eyes. The music video to go along with this Digital Single, once again directed by her regular collaborator in this realm, Aitor Urbaneja (who understands how to represent Rodés‘ musical language so well), develops the song’s themes, filmed in a deep black and white, full of fog and rainy days, and that ending. That ending. The song, behind its emotional and personal power, hides a message of reconciliation, a call for peace, a cry for silence. When sadness looks for hope.

There has been a lot of commotion over MARINITA PRECARIA’s first Mini-LP. Her lyrics – simple, sensitive and profoundly inspired – together with that extremely sophisticated and emotional pop, makes us think this is the arrival of another phenomenon like LE MANS, LA BUENA VIDA, NIZA or FAMILY. But we are getting there, and “Final Explicado” is the beginning of a very important event – her debut album. This time, her new songs are co-produced with Sergio Pérez (who has worked with LA BIEN QUERIDA, Joe Crepúsculo, LOS PUNSETES, Soleá Morente, MUJERES, CABIRIA and so many more) and here this work can be felt and heard on a song that evokes sweet synth-pop, with a touch of that elegance that the best Italo Disco has, and that hint of melancholy; a marvelous dress for Marina Gómez‘ songs. “Final Explicado” is the story of an end foretold, the sadness when you see that everything is falling apart, but here with a touch of bitterness.

This is also represented in the music video directed by Rafael Martínez Calle, who directed the short film “Crudo”, that was screened in over 14 countries, received multiple international awards and in the Málaga Film Festival won “Best Director”. His second short film, “Velar”, was released at the Film Festival in Sevilla and will be screened in other festivals soon.

In the music video, we can see our protag [ Read more ]

Elefant Records continues to be the protagonist of the soundtracks of many of the new releases on video-streaming platforms. And this time in style. “In Love All Over Again” is the new series by Carlos Montero, creator of series such as “Élite” (which has more than 30 Elefant songs on its soundtrack), “The Mess You Leave Behind” (with 11 Elefant songs in its only season) or “Física Y Química”.

The first season of “In Love All Over Again” has eight episodes and has been released on Netflix last February 14th with the participation of Georgina Amorós, Franco Masini, Carlos González, Guillermo Toledo, Silvia Abril and many more actors and actresses that complete an incredible cast, and the direction of, among others, Carlota Pereda (currently on the front page for the award-winning “Piggy”) or Mateo Gil (“Nobody Knows Anybody”, “Blackthorn”, “The Minions of Midas”). On “In Love All Over Again” we can listen to up to 19 songs that have been released on our label, making up a soundtrack that features artists such as FAMILY, LA CASA AZUL, LA BIEN QUERIDA, JUNIPER MOON, LA MONJA ENANA, NOSOTRÄSH, LES TRÈS BIEN ENSEMBLE, COOPER and many more. The perfect musical backdrop for a funny, gentle and down-to-earth romantic comedy, with two protagonists who display superb chemistry. A joy to see and hear.

After surprising strangers and loved ones alike with their first release, the 10” Maxi-Single, “El verano que me debes”, PIPIOLAS, or in other words, Paula Reyes and Adriana Ubani, give us an advance from a debut LP full of surprises and expectations. Expectations because Adriana and Paula’s profiles are not the norm in the indie pop world: they are trained, dedicated artists, with backgrounds in various fields and who pour all their creativity into this joint project. And “Romancero Propio”, the advance single, makes this all very clear.

With classic evocations (the cover, a work of art from the designer Laurel Cala, is inspired by “Romancero Gitano”), they take their music to the next level, with the tension of M83, the rhythmic power of THE WEEKND or DAFT PUNK, and the lyricism of Björk, with a touch of VAINICA DOBLE in the lyrics and evocations of Jeanette that give them that exceptional aura, that sensation that they are breaking new ground that nobody has dared touch until now. Injecting readings and spoken word between a chorus that overflows with multicolor pop lets them build a fable about a fight with oneself, as they explain so perfectly: “Romancero Propio” isn’t a romance with rhyming verses, but with oneself. The story of dependence on antidepressants and anxiety meds to be able to try to have a love story of one’s own that never comes to be. When being human hurts too much a [ Read more ]

Celia Spellman is at the front of a personal project full of mystery, emotions, and songs like diamonds. And we are announcing the launch of the first advance for what will be NENA’s first Digital EP for Elefant Records, as part of our “New Adventures In Pop” collection – a 4-song EP that will be revealed and savored piece by piece. “Fuckboys” is a disenchantment with the night reflected in a song that goes from europop to chiptune, that shares certain similarities with PUTOCHINOMARICÓN in that need to separate from conformity and classification (maybe that’s why her real identity is a secret). Crackling bases and frequencies stretched out over pop melodies that build an immediate hit. And for the occasion, we have a music video directed together with Yana Zafiro (who she collaborated with on her first album) and DETROIT, produced by the very new production company Polígono (which was created by these three restless minds along with Luis Bastida), in what is one of their trademarks: a music video with the finest production, perfectly executed, where we see our protagonist in a plastic room playing the song, intermixed with Apollonian bodies, massive biceps, and digital effects. A tremendous delight.
