A few months ago, we received the first sonic postcard that Javi and Coral sent us from Tokyo. “Templos Y Neones”, the album, will be their return to the current music scene after years of silence, and it will also be the reflection of a physical, emotional and personal journey. Their new postcard arrives in the form of a Digital Single with its corresponding video, in which we can see a bit of the life and environment of the capital of Japan, and the things that excite them in their new city. Beneath it all, because it couldn’t be any other way, “Templos Y Neones”, the title track of their new album, is a song that reflects the sensations about and reasons for this city being their residence these last few months. Temples, forests, cherry trees in blossom, kimonos, Mount Fuji… And also, neon, lights, restaurants, ramen, skyscrapers. The two sides of a multifaceted country that has charmed our protagonists to the point of being the raison d’etre of this new stage in their music, the inspiration for these new songs. All of this to the beat of euro-disco, techno-pop, and with highly evocative choruses. What more can you ask forcategoría Their anticipated new album will finally be here in its entirety in just a few days.

The year-end lists and the sold-out shows all over Spain confirm that “Brujería” is a huge new success for Ana Fernández-Villaverde. With a pristine trajectory, LA BIEN QUERIDA has been collecting hits with each step, but this last period has had especially notable repercussions: the songs have appeared on Operación Triunfo, the music has been chosen for the Valentines’ Day lottery ad, it spent several weeks on the best-sellers list… These are clear signs that a definite line has been crossed, and recognition is now massive. And now we have “Domingo Escarlata”. That song that puts the clouds (the kind that cover the sun and warn of storms) over the relationship that the last LA BIEN QUERIDA album talks about, where, along with J (LOS PLANETAS), she sings about that melancholic and painful moment of accepting separation and distance.

And to illustrate it, we have a video directed by Diego Jiménez (CARIÑO, AXOLOTES MEXICANOS, CAROLINA DURANTE…) starring two girls in the 80s taking a mysterious drug that takes them to the future. It is an evocation of the time that has passed, of the symbols that meant something to us at one point and then got left behind. And we can see J and Ana themselves singing the song in a dreamy scene, along with the stars of the video (including Catalina Sopelana, who is at the top of her game with the release of the TV show “El Vecino”). After the positive reaction to their debut Single and how well people respond to their live performances, CHAVALES continue to give us more and more signs of being a special kind of group, different, unencumbered, with wide musical vision and an addictive sound. And the proof is in the pudding – this coming April 4 in Barcelona, the second Prom Fest – a self-run festival based on US proms and graduation parties – is going to take place, which already has confirmations from artists like Yana Zafiro, NO FUCKS, Stephen Please, LOS SACRIFICIO, CARLOTA and our CHAVALES. For the occasion, each group will be covering a love song or a song of celebration, which will be included on a compilation that will be released as a Digital Album and as a cassette. In addition, Elefant is releasing CHAVALES’ song now as a Digital Single. And they have done an incredible revision of JUNCO’s “¡Hola, Mi Amor!”, one of the greatest hits from the so-called “king of the gypsy ballad”, which our stars take to radical new ground, to the beat of synth-pop and Latin techno-pop, aimed straight at the dance floor. This re-reading shows how the musical recycling process is an incredible art in and of itself, one that has infinite possibilities.

We will have more news and songs from CHAVALES very soon, who are currently preparing and recording their new songs. [ Read more ]

This is a major event for Elefant Records, and at the same time it is a release that somehow manages to close a circle that almost nobody knew was open. The magic of music. The thing is, the new album from Soleá Morente, produced by David Rodríguez, follows that rule about third albums: third albums are for reaffirmation, maturity, development. And, for the first time, Soleá herself has taken the lead role on songwriting for some of the songs on the album, which lets off exotic, rooted aromas but with an absolutely exceptional and marvelous sense of pop. Because Soleá Morente is a unique character on the Spanish music scene. Yes, because she is the daughter of the legendary flamenco singer, Enrique Morente and the dancer Aurora Carbonell, but also because the middle Morente child has always been permeable to other musical references and styles. That is why, on this album, credit is also given to songwriters like Ana Fernández-Villaverde (LA BIEN QUERIDA), David Rodríguez (LA ESTRELLA DE DAVID) and J (LOS PLANETAS). It is an exquisite cocktail; a square circle.

The result of such a collection of titans from the national scene is a combination of songs that take the rumba as their guide, and let it lead them through a series of very diverse and rich stories and musical references. But the first lines are for a song that deserves its own temple, one of the three songs that Ana Fernández-Villaverde contributed to the album. It is n [ Read more ]

Here at Elefant Records, we continue to focus on fresh blood with our collection, “New Adventures In Pop”, and this time we want to talk about AIKO EL GRUPO. The band is based in Madrid, and is formed by Tere (guitar and vocals), Lara (guitar and vocals), Bárbara (keyboards and vocals) and Jaime (drums and vocals). Their freshness and aplomb (and anger) remind us of the punk-pop sound of groups like JOANNA GRUESOME, VERONICA FALLS and COMET GAIN, with touches of the riot grrrl spirit of American groups like LE TIGRE, BRATMOBILE and BIKINI KILL.

Their first Single includes two songs. “A Mí Ya Me Iba Mal De Antes” begins strong, with a string of memorable lines, full of rage and nihilism. “Prefiero tener suerte… A tener buen corazón” (I’d rather have good luck… Than a good heart)is the line that marks the chorus of a solid, furious song. It is impossible to not instantly empathize. The song is accompanied by “Si Me Conoces Tanto (¿Por Qué Me Haces Sufrircategoría)”, which is more melodic, but just as out of control (it reminds us so much of TIGER TRAP!), with that wild keyboard.

The group was initially formed by Tere (who now also plays in YAWNERS and REPION), Lara and Bárbara, in a night of alcohol and inspiration. Tere and Lara have known each other since grade school, in the bay of Santander; Bárbara finished school in Lucena and moved to Madrid to go to univ [ Read more ]

It has been a while since we heard from AXOLOTES MEXICANOS, but we can’t say the members of the group haven’t been giving us musical and artistic news. Juan and Mario have been unleashing their great talents with CAROLINA DURANTE; Lucas has continued to show us his tremendous personality with CONFETI DE ODIO; and Olaya has continued letting her boundless imagination run wild with illustrations and stagings, and has collaborated with her fantastic voice on the hit “El Fin Del Mundo” by LA LA LOVE YOU, and on the new version of “Programa En Espiral” by EL AVIADOR DRO Y SUS OBREROS ESPECIALIZADOS. Meanwhile, Stephen has gone back to Barcelona and has started playing bass again with the group, while giving us songs from his personal project, under the name Stephen Please and his group NO FUCKS. Yes, the AXOLOTES seem to be one of those groups that are the origin of an infinite number of things. That is why we needed their new songs, so here we have a little dose in the form of a Digital Single: “Uwu”.

And as always, they play up their perfect example of an attitude, beginning with the titles of the songs. “Te Quiero (…)” has a thicker, more solid sound that their previous recordings, maintaining that punk spirit but with traces of noise, for this story of falling out of love, spite, the disappointment of not really knowing where a relationship is going. With, by the way, a totally unleashed Olaya. As if no time ha [ Read more ]

After that surprising debut in 10” Mini-LP format that was “Disforia”, Javier Aparicio (vocals), Borja Aranda (keyboards and guitars) and Raúl Serrano (bass) are back with new songs, maintaining that musical language that is all their own, unique, moving in their own special way between such distinct references as shoegaze, dream pop, rap and trap. They have their own language, their own special way of connecting the present and the past though an intense melancholy and sadness. Like the disagreement that “La Última Vez” narrates – dry and rough, although it has an exquisite sense of melody, and includes a marvelous collaboration from Valdivia. The Madrid-based singer (who in her own career moves within the parameters of melancholy, also playing with electronic and folk sounds), brings a sweet, raw touch, that startling beauty that shines brightly in the dark. This is a journey in time that connects us with “Primitive Painters” by FELT thirty-five years ago, that fantastic song that included the collaboration of Elizabeth Fraser from COCTEAU TWINS. The video by Santi Capuz perfectly reflects the sting of relationships that come to an end, the reproaches, that couple that looks out the window, each one from a different car.

This digital release is completed by “No Disponible”, a song where the lack of communication hidden within the world of digital multi-connection resurfaces, with arpeggios that EARLY [ Read more ]

Two years after that fantastic debut album that was “Feels”, Rachel K. Haines and the producer James Benjamin Thomas are back with new songs, advancing what will be their imminent new album, “Past Lives”. On these songs, they continue to update the Nu-disco and R&B sound through elegant harmonies, with a certain melancholic pose, but full of vitality. As proof, we have this exquisite “No Tag Backs” (an expression that refers to unreturned sexual favors), with a powerful chorus, open production, that moves in multiple directions (we could be talking about Sia, Lorde or a sophisticated Dua Lipa, or think of the harmonies of ROXY MUSIC). Deep bass but without it overwhelming the music, a very direct eye toward the dance floor, and those melodies that rise up and penetrate your entire being.

Verse, pre-chorus, chorus. Simple, solid, magic. These three friends who are experiencing an unforgettable, inimitable summer day, filmed by Santi Capuz for the video, perfectly represent that mix of euphoria, vitality and melancholy that we were talking about.

And as a gift, on the B side of this Digital Single they give us this absolutely surprising version of the enormous classic that is “Just Like Heaven” by THE CURE. Very far from the original parameters, they revisit that powerful melody with a flirtatious and absolutely charming attitude.

An exquisite sound and an unquestionable savoir-faire make RUSH WEEK one of those bands that are [ Read more ]

The newest artist for Elefant Records is an old friend, even though she is only 23 years old. The thing is, Maddie began her musical career singing the earliest THE YEARNING songs when she was only 14 years old. Since then, she began her musical journey along with Joe Moore, with whom she has released many albums and visited half the globe, from Spain to Japan.

Joe Moore has collaborated with different singers throughout his diverse productions and with his most special project, THE YEARNING, and his imminent new album (it’s almost finished now) has brought about a new twist, more focused on the music of the seventies and disco, somewhere between ABBA and Donna Summer. This led to the search for a new singer (we will introduce you to Luci very soon) and created a new opportunity for Maddie to take on her own project. Here at Elefant Records, we have always been fans of her silky, versatile voice, and we believe that this is the perfect moment for that young girl we watched grow up musically to begin her own career, with a sound closer to her own generation and inspired by the many strong, talented, powerful women in music today: Ariana, Lizzo,Billie Eilish, Lorde and Miley Cyrus are just a few of the references she mentions.

So, with help in the song-writing and production from Joe Moore (don’t think he was out of the picture), but with Maddie much more involved in the project’s definition, and writing the lyrics, we present to you the first song by Ma [ Read more ]

After that debut Digital Mini Album that had such an impact, “Ser Mayor Es Un Rollo”, the duo from Valencia, GOMET, continue to showing off their song-writing arsenal with this new Digital Single: “Admiradora Secreta”. This song leaves the childish ambiguity of their first songs behind, to embrace – also from a mini context – much more brutal and striking lyrics, on a song that at times comes close to industrial music. Cynical and solid, aggressive and merciless, “Admiradora Secreta” continues to confirm GOMET as a group with an unclassifiable, overwhelming personality, for whom musical labels do not begin to cover it. In barely 3 minutes, they tear up all of John Hughes’s legendary movies about secret teenage love. And once again, Diego Navarro provides the images for the song with a 3D animated video that reaffirms the group’s iconography (those kids with the green circle on their face), mixed with robots, aliens, and six-year-old guitar-heroes. Like we said, this is unclassifiable. A mix between guilty pleasure, terror and maliciousness runs through our veins when we ask ourselves, “what will they do nextí”

Once upon a time… “Hola”. After five years of silence as a duet (Ibon Errazkin released his last solo album, “Foto Aérea” in 2018; SINGLE has not released anything since that Maxi-Single “Rea Del Ritmo” in 2015), the duo formed by Ibon Errazkin and Teresa Iturrioz is back with a brand new album.

Good things, when short, are twice as good. This is a constant in the trajectory of Errazkin-Iturrioz, ever since AVENTURAS DE KIRLIAN, the legendary group from San Sebastián they first made themselves known with, whose eponymous debut just turned 30. They have always leaned toward albums with discreet lengths, but with an incredible capacity for endless sonic fascination. On their fourth album as a duo (their fifth if we include “Anexo”), SINGLE is taking us on a new journey to their interior universe, new proof of their capacity to reinvent themselves without ever giving up their artistic principles.

“Hola” makes it clear, once again, that SINGLE is unique when it comes to making collages with an exquisite capacity for suggestion. They are always surprising when it comes to combining sounds and influences that at first glance – or first listen – can seem impossible to bring together. Here, Errazkin and Iturrioz do it again, at the same time as they bring back the essence of another of their celebrated groups, LE MANS. Diving into their roots, into [ Read more ]

Little by little, we are working our way through the songs that are going to be included on the third album by Soleá Morente, her first with Elefant. And “Viniste A Por Mí” is going to be the last advance single before we can finally hear “Lo Que Te Falta” in its entirety. This is an album that is already giving people a lot to talk about, and that in and of itself is a milestone for a great artist who has collaborated with creators like J (LOS PLANETAS), David Rodríguez (LA ESTRELLA DE DAVID) and LA BIEN QUERIDA – and also for Elefant, who continues opening doors and windows for new musical artists, sounds, references and contexts. A very magical cocktail. The proof is in the pudding.

“Viniste A Por Mí” is a rumba full of spite, and at the same time, with a melody full of vitality and affection. It is solid proof of the agile but sensitive sound, Castilian but also personal, that abounds on the album. And in the video directed by Daniel Cuenca we can see Soleá’s friends, companions and collaborators: from Soleá’s mother herself, the flamenco dancer Aurora Carbonell, to members of LAS NEGRIS (responsible for the majority of the backing vocals on the album), until we get to EL YIYO. The young flamenco dancer from Badalona – who is the in the spotlight all around the world (Naomi Campbell herself has called him to her side), who has already performed in France, Portugal and Tai [ Read more ]

Tracklist: 01- Atasco 02-Casamiento

It wasn’t so long ago that we gave you “Barakaldo”, the first song from the Valencian quartet, LISASINSON, for Elefant Records. Miriam (vocals and guitar), Mar (vocals and guitar), María (drums and backing vocals) and Roser (bass and backing vocals) are creating a revolution in the pop scene with just one song. And of course, they are also traveling all over the peninsula with a live presentation of their precocious punk-pop. Today, we are finally bringing you their anticipated new Single, with two songs that confirm just how promising this group is. It is a combination of ultra-melodic punk-pop that moves between messages with a feminist, social message (inspired by the normalization of violence against certain groups in society) and the freshness and cheekiness of youth.

“Atasco” is a great example; it is a song dedicated to women who are no longer with us. Musically, it begins with that precious sixties opening, reminding us of THE RONETTES or THE SHIRELLES, to then throw itself head first into speedy guitars, while they shout at us, with concern and urgency, “Las chicas ya no volverán a bailar jamás” (The girls will never dance again). This contrast is what makes the feeling of it being an anthem even stronger, a song full of signs and symbols, but also full of evidence, solid. They are not afraid to be straight with us and, at the same t [ Read more ]

2019 has been a big year for LA CASA AZUL. “La Gran Esfera” has been the definitive confirmation that Guille Milkyway is an artist of reference both critically and publically, and has crowned this story of poetic justice that all of us who have followed his career since the beginning hoped would reach such a marvelous point. It has been a whirlwind of concerts, festivals, best of the year lists and sales lists, a marvelous tour in Mexico… And there is so much still to come, enjoy and discover.

But to bring this latest journey to an end, we present you with the video for “El Colapso Gravitacional”, the latest from “La Gran Esfera”, and an authentic wonder that in barely four minutes perfectly represents so many of the elements that make up the universe of LA CASA AZUL. This fantastic work is directed by Daniel Cuenca (CRISTINA QUESADA, RUSH WEEK, FITNESS FOREVER, THE PERFECT KISS…), and includes the stellar presence of Anna Castillo (“La Llamada”, “El Olivo”, “Viaje Al Cuarto De Una Madre”, “Paquita Salas”, “Arde Madrid” …). It is the story of a pop star (at times it seems like a recreation of Mina, one of Guille’s greatest loves) who disappears, overwhelmed by her own success, and is brought back to life by a being from outer space. There is a complex relationship between being and creator, where we can see some of the themes of existential anguish that fre [ Read more ]

Here at Elefant, we are welcoming the new year with two parties starring the French group LE SUPERHOMARD. This coming January 25, in Sala El Sol, with doors opening at 9:00pm, we will have three bands who represent three very different sounds that are part of the palette of sounds of our label.

NOS MIRAN are one of the best new groups of last year. Sergio Rodríguez and María Quintana have developed, on their first full-length, “Todo Se Repite”, a personal sound, with a foundation of electronic pop and dreamy, introspective lyrics. We have already said almost everything there is to say about LINDA GUILALA. It will be a great opportunity to see their solid live show, which already has an incredible repertoire, after having travelled halfway around the world with their singles for labels in the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States. We are really excited to hear these new songs on stage, where they will continue to maintain that perfect balance between melody and noise, energy and evocation. Finally, we will have the opportunity to see live, for the first time in Madrid, LE SUPERHOMARD. The French band practices a kind of analog pop, following the tradition of bands as important as STEREOLAB, BROADCAST, NEU! and THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, with an omnipresent pop/lounge spirit. We are so curious about what it will be like to see this big moment for such a unique group, where fantasy and audiovisual esthetic is an important part of the c [ Read more ]
