SPEEDMARKET AVENUE are wrapping up the change in direction that their latest Mini-LP, “Goodbye”, has been for their career, more than a year after it was released, with a new single. It is a new, important addition to the list of great break-up albums, like FLEETWOOD MAC’s “Rumors”, Frank Sinatra’s “Watertown”, TREMBLING BLUE STARS’ “Her Handwriting”, and Bob Dylan’s “Blood On The Tracks”.

The song selected for this occasion is “Not This Time”, a brilliant composition that moves back and forth as if debating between its melancholy reverb, its agile, trotting rhythm, and its disarming chorus. With cover art that finishes with the four-color printing process with its faded green, this digital single also includes a previously unreleased track, “Not This Time (Living Through)”. The song has echoes of the most energetic and exciting ARCADE FIRE, but mixed with a certain gloominess as well as an unrepentant energy; it’s the perfect ending that opens the door to whatever comes next, something beyond that tortured break-up, that we also understand to be the beginning of the road toward new musical surprises. Something we are anxiously awaiting from a group as talented as SPEEDMARKET AVENUE when it comes to working different sounds and influences.

What’s more, the release of this digital single comes with its corresponding video-clip. [ Read more ]

“Los Anillos De Alcyone (21-12-2012)” is LA CASA AZUL’s contribution to our first Christmas album, “A Christmas Gift For You From Elefant Records”. Guille wanted to give Christmas a spacy sound, and he created a science-fiction Christmas adventure that includes an exterrestrial visit, in which the visitors bring us cosmic light. Now, from “El Laboratorio de Band À Part" (Band À Part’s laboratory) we travel to 1953 to enjoy the video that Guille wanted to be, above all, an homage to the science fiction movies of the 50s and to the era of extraterrestrial phenomena; alien abductions, visits from beings from other planets, and stories full of fantasy and mystery were on the rise due to a generalized interest in the future and its scientific and technological advances. Javi and Coral have gone through some of the classics from that time (“It Came From Outer Space”, “Invasion of the Saucer-Men”, "Earth vs. The Flying Saucers", "The Man from Planet X", "The Day the Earth Stood Still"…) to create this little story that reveals that Guille first visited the earth at the beginning of the 50s!!!

After putting out two singles with Elefant Records and while they’re getting ready for the anxiously awaited moment when they release their debut album, BELLE GHOUL, the band comprised of Jesse Smith (daughter of Patti Smith and Fred “Sonic” Smith from MC5) and Christopher Tait (ELECTRIC SIX) are going to play a few concerts before the end of the year under incomparable circumstances. They’re opening for Patti Smith herself on December 29th and 30th in Webster Hall in New York, one of the most important concert halls in the city, in a building with more than a century of history, where artists like THE PRETENDERS, PRINCE, Madonna, SONIC YOUTH, and MODEST MOUSE, among many other artists with diverse sounds and styles, have played. Tickets are already sold out for both concerts, but they will definitely be very special nights, unleashing their pop full of big melodies and classical elegance, with echoes of THE BOO RADLEYS, FLEETWOOD MAC, and THE ZOMBIES. Their diehard fans will definitely increase in number with such a special experience.

BELLE GHOUL are releasing a digital single that includes three marvelous covers taken from different recording sessions, and that show the duo’s – formed by Christopher Tait (ELECTRIC SIX) and Jesse Smith (the daughter of Patti Smith and Fred “Sonic” Smith, from MC5) – calling to become classics, and that they emanate a certain magical halo influenced by the wintry seasons.

To start things off we have “Care Of Cell 44” by THE ZOMBIES, one of the starting points and musical coincidences between Jesse and Chris, as they themselves have said. Psychedelic pop made for a piano, with heavenly choruses à la BEACH BOYS, brushing up at some points against LOVIN’ SPOONFUL. Recorded in Tree Laboratory (Brooklyn) by Eric Hoegemeyer for Halloween night 2013, this song switches between a mystery and a luminosity that give it an unmistakable air of Christmas.

“Free Ride” was originally recorded during the sessions for “Saturday Knife Fight” and was finished in the Rust Belt Studios, for a tribute to Nick Drake that was ultimately never released. Luckily, the song is rescued here for us to enjoy in all of its solemnity, far from the intimacy of the original, with a more ambient touch but just as melancholy.

“Swee’Pea’s Lullaby” was was originally recorded during the sessions for “(Out Of) The Neighborhood“ in 2012, by Zach Shipps, but the truth is that this [ Read more ]

In 2003, “Un Soplo En El Corazón”, the FAMILY album that definitively shifted the evolution of pop music made in Spain and that became a landmark of a cult group like few we will enjoy in this lifetime, had its 10-year release anniversary. To celebrate that sweet heart attack, Elefant Records, in collaboration with Rockdelux magazine, released an album in homage to the original, with diverse artists, both new and renowned, giving brave, daring, revered versions of the songs that made up such an inimitable album.

Now that the album has reached its twentieth anniversary, so that it is available to everyone, everywhere, especially to the new generations, Elefant Records is rereleasing it in digital format, where we will once again be able to enjoy these daring and curious versions. Like the arid poetry of ANA D, the immense sweetness of LA BUENA VIDA, FANGORIA’s double homage, or the dreamy melancholy of the versions by LOS PLANETAS, AMA, PARADE, APENINO, and CHUCHO.

ASTRUD, the most daring with their priceless live vocal revision of “El Bello Verano” adorned with the eternal melody of “The Pink Panther” soundtrack, and LA CASA AZUL’s powerful version with a fun, imaginative Shibuya-Kei rhythm, also participated on the album. The homage, made with all the love in the world, went beyond the concept of homage and became a part of the mood of the moment, with songs that are key to our way of understanding music toda [ Read more ]

Another year has passed and the holiday season is here again. Here at Elefant, at this time of year, we’ve always like to plan something special for all of the label’s fans. Last year we released “A Christmas Gift for You from Elefant Records”, a compilation full of pop-Christmas carols that will continue to give us a few more surprises. This year we have a Special Holiday Sale in our Elefant store https://elefant.com/shop that will run from Friday, November 29th until Monday, January 20th, 2014. You can find so many of our products at really special prices.

We have dedicated a lot of our efforts this year to improving our online store,  and though there is still a lot of work to be done, we are really happy with the results of what we’ve done so far. The store is now divided in two parts, the Digital Store, for album and MP3 downloads, and the Physical Store. Some of the new aspects in the Physical Store are the new sections, which will help you find everything much faster. In “Last copies” you can find the albums that are about to go out of print. Now we have a new section exclusively for “Vinyls”, where fans of this format can find the entire collection of vinyls released by Elefant and vinyls from other labels that we distribute, together in one section. Roughly one year ago, on a day just like today we published the "La Fiesta Universal" video-clip. To celebrate this first anniversary we are pleased to share the new and improved "Full Version" of this audiovisual production with the supporters and fans of LA CASA AZUL. We think it’s amazing. Because of the times we live in, where everything goes at such a fast pace, there was no time to follow through with all of the ideas that Jean-Marie Marbach had bouncing around in his head. Over the past year this genius of the audiovisual world has managed to incorporate all the details and create the new scenes without which he thought the first version of the video-clip was just a little incomplete.

The new version features three kinds of changes: changes that are purely visual, changes linked to sound effects and changes that have a significant impact on the storyline, which are the most appreciable.

The purely visual changes are:

• A lot of set elements were added throughout the entire first scene where Guille wakes the android up. Before, the set was very dark and empty. Now there are blinking light tubes scattered around to fill up the empty space.• The Polynesian mountains are completely new.• The rest of the changes are corrections to Guille's helmet reflections, corrections to incorrect framings for some of the android shots and color timing corrections to enable a better color palette.

As regards sound effects: a proper mix of the [ Read more ]

There are few times that a group’s name explains so much about their musical aspirations. THE MAGIC THEATRE’s music is a dramatic evocation with no limits; thousands of stories seem to flow within their melodies – through the richly timbred, vast instrumentation, in the impossible arrangements, and in the thousands of influences from all over the world that fill their songs. It is fantasy and imagination made into music, something that Dan Popplewell and Sophia Churney exalt on their second album, “The Long Way Home” – their first for Elefant Records.

Ever since Popplewell and Churney met as part of OOBERMAN – the British band that won single of the year about ten years ago from The Times and Mark Radcliffe’s Radio One program, for their single “Shorley Wall” – the two felt compelled to work together. This was finally possible just a few years back with the birth of THE MAGIC THEATRE. After a delicious first album that set up all the parameters that this new album expands on, they signed with Elefant Records. And after that marvelous single, “I Got The Answer”, a song which is included on the album, we finally have “The Long Way Home”.

Who didn’t melt with the youthful, colorful rejoicing that emanated from “Personal Train”categoría It has been years since we heard an album so capable of bringing together all those styles we like so much, from jangle to indie-pop, with a touch of Brazilian music, psychedelic pop, Italian sound tracks… And to do it that level of energy and elegance, class and inspiration in one amazing combination. Carlos Valderrama, FITNESS FOREVER’s frontman, says he was left empty afterwards, a blank slate, not really knowing what his next step would be.

After a while, they wanted to maintain the freshness and glow of their songs, but step it up a notch in terms of the riskiness of the songs’ architecture, complicating the harmonies and making slippery melodies that make just as much of an impression. That’s where “Cosmos” came from; it’s FITNESS FOREVER’s second album, and the perfect definition of what Valderrama wanted. The album is flooded with groove and disco, with a clear seventies sce [ Read more ]
