Welsh band THE SCHOOL bring their fizzy orchestral pop to the USA for the first time this summer, playing NYC Popfest on 30th May followed by 9 shows in June.

Part of the legendary Elefant Records family, their debut album 'Loveless Unbeliever' appeared in over 70 'best of 2010' lists.

Second album 'Reading Too Much Into Things Like Everything' was released last year which includes the single 'Never Thought I'd See The Day'. Produced by David Wrench

(Bat For Lashes, Caribou, Herman Dune, Euros Childs) it's a 12-track 29-minute record crammed with classic pop songs about love and loss. Exploring a wider range of influences, you'll hear THE RONETTES then THE RAMONES, FRANCOISE HARDY then a hint of MADNESS and a nod to THE SUPREMES – but always with The School's modern twist and sugar sweet vocals.

Following the US tour, the band will return to the studio to record their third LP for Elefant Records, to be released in early 2014.

“Shine (Go To California)” (2002) is a delicious house specialty, as if THE LEFT BANK went on vacation to the sunniest part of the world to have a party, that inexplicably ends up blowing up in that techno-pop ending, owing so much to J-Pop.

We’re still moving forward with new releases on our limited-edition singles series for new bands, with which we at Elefant hope to open you up to some of the newest, most interesting up and coming artists, both nationally and internationally. And this time we have two really surprising and absolutely polar opposite singles ready for you: chamber pop seasoned with juicy collaborations by the British group A LITTLE ORCHESTRA, and the furious, urgent and insultingly iconoclastic punk by the Asturian group AXOLOTES MEXICANOS. Two new names to add to the list that includes artists like LOS BONSAIS, PAPA TOPO, KNICKERS, BAND À PART, BELLE GHOUL, and THE SILVER FACTORY.

A LITTLE ORCHESTRA, as their name itself indicates, is a small pop orchestra with eleven members, based in London and originally founded at the beginning of 2010 by Monster Bobby, who was one of the main people responsible for the first period of THE PIPETTES. Their versatility and extensive line-up (which includes flutes, violins, violas, and clarinets) has led them to diver [ Read more ]

ATTIC LIGHTS were one of the biggest hits of 2008. Their singles, their videos, their songs grew from their native Glasgow and spread all over the world, until major labels were fighting to release the group’s first album, “Friday Night Lights.” It was finally released at the end of 2008 on Island Records, the company that has released albums by artists like THE B-52’S, John Cale, Nick Drake, THE ISLEY BROTHERS, and Ringo Starr, among many others. ATTIC LIGHTS received critical and popular acclaim, and toured all over the world. This past 2012 they signed with Elefant Records to release what will be their second album, “Super De Luxe,” but for now we’ve got this incredible advance single with four fantastic songs that make the power of their guitars crystal clear, especially when combined with their marvelous vocal harmonies and the solid choruses.

“Say You Love Me” is a perfect example of this. Forceful, epic guitars, full of pop spirit and the embodiment of distortion, euphoric, lifted by the excellent vocal melodies and a tremendous chorus – one of those songs that you find yourself humming a few minutes after hearing it for the first time &ndas [ Read more ]

Five years ago, they left us longing for so many more songs, with those incredible, fun singles, “Doing Our Part” and “Beverly” (which were put together for a an exclusive-edition CD in Japan). Since then we haven’t heard a lot about THE CARROTS, who have been busy with the countless parallel projects they’ve put together. But suddenly, they’ve finally finished everything up and their first full length, “New Romance”, is here. And with it, the Austin sextet is back to show us their special way of understanding “girl groups” through great songs and marvelous arrangements.

With a line-up solidified by Jason 'Chef' Pittman,Veronica Ortuno, Chris Lyons,Jason Pearson,Shelley McKann and Rose Russo, this album is fresh, with Veronica Ortuno’s versatile voice, capable of carrying songs from the sweetness of Diana Ross to the strength of Dionne Warwick. These past years of waiting have not been in vain, the group has increased their audience in the States, appearing in the media, touring all ove [ Read more ]

We’re always anxiously awaiting new songs from PAPA TOPO, we’d even say it’s almost obsessive. After “Oso Panda” (which is close to a million views on Youtube), “La Chica Vampira” and “Rotación y Traslación,” after having played with THE PRIMITIVES, and in important festivals like Indietracks (UK), Festival Milhões (Portugal), Monkey Week, Primavera Sound, and Murcia’s Lemon Pop, we can’t help but get excited about the idea of listening to new material. So, get ready, because “Sangre En Los Zapatos” is here, PAPA TOPO’s first song with their new line-up, a limited-edition, blood-red vinyl!!! Along with Adrià, the now sextet is made up of Oscar Huerta Plaza (guitar, chimes, and choruses), Julia Fandos (concert flute and vocals); Sònia Montoya Barberà (bass and choruses), Omar Ballester (drums), and Ferrán Puig Bosch (trombone, choruses, second guitar).

“Sangre En Los Zapatos” is an unquestionable hit, a classic disco song produced by Guille Milkyway (LA CASA AZUL), that makes euphoria break out on the dance floor, between echoes of ALASKA Y DINARAMA, SCISSOR SISTERS and CHIC. It’s going to be played [ Read more ]

MINI-LP 10” [Orange Colour Vinyl] [Numbered Limited Edition of 500 copies] Includes a free digital MP3 download [320 kbps]

These last few years have been a whirlwind for BAND Á PART. Their two singles have flown out of stores; they’ve played in festivals like Indietracks (UK) and Contempopranea; they’ve brought their music to cities like Berlin (as part of the line-up of Berlin PopFest).  Soon they’re running off to Cardiff to take part in the indie festival, “Wales Goes Pop!” and this year is looking like it’s going to be the most active year they’ve had yet.

They’re even making music for a Kellog’s commercial in the United States (there’s nothing better for cereal than Javi and Coral’s delicious melodies). There are so many people all over the world anxiously awaiting the new songs from the band that has made such a mark with its own personality and its knowledge of music that far exceeds the norm, especially when it comes to filling their songs with these qualities. And here we have a marvelous Mini-LP, a 10” orange vinyl, “La Aventura Original”, to scratch the itch and bring the wait to an end.

Things kick off with a huge hit, a song that w [ Read more ]

In November 2012, we released “Goodbye,” a Mini-LP from one of our favorite Swedish bands, SPEEDMARKET AVENUE, where we could hear Isak Klasson bare his soul after a break-up, along the same lines as FLEETWOOD MAC’s “Rumours”, Frank Sinatra’s “Watertown”, TREMBLING BLUE STARS’ “Her Handwriting”, and Bob Dylan’s “Blood On The Tracks”, but with the clear mark of the band’s identity. Now we’re taking “How I Miss You” from that same Mini-LP and we’re releasing a digital single that keeps the melancholic and sad feeling, stilly influenced by the same creative process, though the title track stands out for its marvelous chorus and the beauty of the guitar arrangements.

Once again, the band makes it clear that their compositional skills are all-terrain, and they aren’t afraid to try any format or style. The two previously-unreleased songs from this single highlight the most devastating and painful part of the process of separation that gave way to this significant stage in the group’s successful career. “A Week Is A Year” is a slow, delicate song, which reflects how painfully slow the passing of time can be when emotions are running high. It’s an evocative song, with pure arrangements and a bittersweet aftertaste. On the other hand, “Saturday I’ll Listen” is one of those heartbreaking songs that can only [ Read more ]

The cliché of a second youth turns into something magical and marvelous in the case of Nick Garrie. The author of “The Nightmare Of JB Stanislas” was resuscitated with that incredible “49 Arlington Gardens”, cherished by Scotland’s indie scene:Ally KerrNorman Blake (TEENAGE FANCLUB), Francis McDonald (NICE MAN, TEENAGE FANCLUB, BMX BANDITS), Duglas T. Stewart (BMX BANDITS) and Duncan Cameron (DELGADOS, TRAVIS, TRASHCAN SINATRAS). And now it’s being revived again with even more strength than you thought possible, accompanied by Spanish musicians. “Rainy Days In Sunny Sydney” is a totally new Nick Garrie song that’s being released as a digital single. It was arranged and produced by Vicente Maciá, better known as PIGMY, the once singer in the Spanish group CARROTS.

The song recovers the folk spirit from Nick Garrie’s first recordings, full of mandolins and banjos. It’s caressed by Jordi Montero’s glorious violins, which move from evocative and precious to Russian accents. Eli Martín’s sparkling choruses lift the song’s opening to magnificent levels, and the trot of Pau Philippe’s drums turn surprisingly toward eastern Europe, making the Slavic origins of the songwriter’s paternal family relevant. The production is so rich, full of details and nuances, showing us PIGMY&rs [ Read more ]

MINI-LP 10” [White Colour Vinyl] [Numbered Limited Edition of 500 copies]Includes a free digital MP3 download [320 kbps]

After the debut single for our collection “New Adventures In Pop” that caused quite a stir, LOS BONSÁIS are back with a Mini-LP that will be released in digital format and white 10” vinyl. It shows this respected duo from Asturias letting loose their passion for fast rhythm, noisy guitars and the sounds of bands like SHOP ASSISTANTS, THE VASELINES, MY BLOODY VALENTINE and THE PASTELS.

Hyperactive and self-sufficient, in addition to having prepared and recorded the eight songs on their new record and to their live performances over the past few months, Helena and Nel have also found time to make their own video-clips and release 4 editions of their fanzine “Temporal” (going back to the roots of the original fanzine format of photocopied paper). Helena also held her first art exhibition, displaying some of her work and demonstrating her exceptional talent as an artist, a talent that is clearly evident in the fascinating and captivating canvases she painted for the cover of the new record.

Once again, Iván and Eva from LINDA GUILALA have handled the recording and production in their Kaiju [ Read more ]

After the unique and much praised covers album, “Echoes and Rhymes”, THE PRIMITIVES are releasing a new single, a limited-edition 45 featuring two new, original songs. On one side, the title track, “Lose The Reason” goes back to THE PRIMITIVES at their most hyper, most urgent, mixing addictive choruses, with accelerated guitars, and a vocal duel between Paul and Tracy Tracy that, like a dispirited Sonny and Cher, moves ambiguously between provocative and spiteful mocking to bitterness over love lost. On the other side, we have “Always Coming Back,” a song that gives way to their more sixties-styled leanings, as if Nancy Sinatra or Bobbie Gentry had joined THE VELVET UNDERGROUND to do a cover of a BEATLES’ song, while Tracy sings of some mysterious force from the past holding sway once again.

This is proof that the group is still fully charged and full of inspiration, and these songs make us dream of a new and magnificent album of fresh material. We are waiting impatiently.
