Last year, COOPER released their most complete and personal album, “Mi Universo”, and they toured the country extensively, with shows in major summer festivals. Recently, we released a numbered, limited-edition vinyl single with the song “Arizona”, one of the most explosive songs on “Mi Universo”, as the star track on a single that is brilliantly complemented with its B-side “Tu Me Dijiste Adiós”, originally by LOS BRINCOS. But that’s not all – we still have more exciting news about COOPER.

Elefant Records has joined forces with Ediciones Chelsea to release a Double-DVD titled “A Proposito De Mi Universo”. This DVD-Book includes the ten videos from the “Internet Tour” – that virtual tour that COOPER made on different onlne music sites for the release of “Mi Universo.” “A Proposito De Mi Universo” also includes the movie “El Regalo”: with this title, borrowed from the softest and most intimate song on the album, the movie-maker Juan Marigorta gives us a documentary, over 80 minutes long, in which he dives into the secrets of the recording of “Mi Universo,” showing us surprising facets of the group “in action”, as well as hidden corners of the legendary Konk Studios, where what many consider to be COOPER’s best album was recorded. On “A Proposito de Mi Universo”, we also find four extra tracks: the [ Read more ]

We at Elefant are back with a new release on our New Adventures in Pop Collection, a collection we use to support new projects we find highly interesting. This time we’ve got some really special singles; this is the first time we’re presenting new projects formed by members of other groups and interestingly, and coincidentally, enough, it’s the first time it happens and it’s true for all three singles in these new releases. Musicians who have been writing and playing songs with different groups join forces to give shape to BELLE GHOUL, TEACHER TEACHER, and EDINE AVEC LISLE MITNIK ET SON ORCHESTRE.

BELLE GHOUL is the band formed by Christopher Tait (ELECTRIC SIX) and Jesse Smith (Patti Smith), who have created an indie-pop and northern soul journey that we could even on occasions link to THE BOO RADLEYS. Then there’s the Hong Kong – Chicago connection, EDINE AVEC LISLE MITNIK ET SON ORCHESTRE, a precious collaboration between Edine (THE MARSHMALLOW KISSES) and Lisle (FIREFLIES, TINEY FIREFLIES, VERY TRULY YOURS) that carry us to a delicate and melancholic pop sound with sixties roots and its sights set on France’s Cote d’Azur. And finally, from Spain, there’s TEACHER TEACHER, the band formed by María (THE CHARADES, MITTENS), Cristina (LAS SEÑORAS, SHELLAC FAMILY), and Guillermo (MITTENS, WILD HONEY), a punk-pop trip that has inherited a lot from bands like T [ Read more ]

It’s hard to believe, but it has been almost four years since that “Way Better Now” that we enjoyed so much, and that brought SPEEDMARKET AVENUE international recognition, especially in Sweden and England. But those four years weren’t in vain, and our stars have grown, and the group has grown with them. Evolutionary processes and above all Isak Klasson’s emotional break-up with his partner have given shape to this seven-song Mini-LP, “Goodbye”, which is also a break from the group’s musical past. It’s a break-up album in all respects, from the same conceptual school that FLEETWOOD MAC’s “Rumours”, Frank Sinatra’s “Watertown”, TREMBLING BLUE STARS “Her Handwriting”, and Bob Dylan’s “Blood on The Tracks” came from. But it’s simply a conceptual similarity; the music is too different to even compare it to those things. They are a band, which want to break from their chains and leave the past behind them.

There is one thing that hasn’t changed: SPEEDMARKET AVENUE are still capable of sounding personal, different, with no clear comparison, but holding on to their pop spirit and their capacity for marvelous melodies. The difference is that now the artists have grown, the summits are sharper, the peaks all filed to point [ Read more ]

“Noviembre, sopla revuelto” (November, trouble is brewing)… This is how Ana’s voice started off “Fiesta”, LA BIEN QUERIDA’s second album, and this is precisely the month in which her eagerly awaited third album will be released. That song was also the one that, without meaning to, led to the first steps towards LA BIEN QUERIDA’s new musical universe. With the new album, “Ceremonia”, we can shout it out to everyone in the world that we have one of the most personal projects of the country here, an ever-shifting project that evolves from album to album and that keeps its roots in those incredible lyrics and those contagious melodies. The new album has songs that expand and grow in search of darker, more electronic sounds, winding up on some occasions in an authentic symphony of infinite noise that is cold and penetrating.

“Ceremonia” is an album that crosses NEW ORDER and KRAFTWERK, MY BLOODY VALENTINE and LOVE AND ROCKETS, kraut-rock and post-punk, love and revenge, beauty and pain. On November 5th, we will finally be able to discover all of the ingredients that comprise this great, opaque and blurry ceremony that Ana and David have been cooking slowly over a low flame like witches from the middle ages. The appetizer for this great banquet arrives on October 1st in the shape of a digital single with the song “Arenas Movidizas”.

This year, the Teatro Nacional de Cataluña, led by its director, Sergi Belbel, has decided to dedicate the 2012-13 program of the Nacional’s Grande Room almost entirely to young playwrights. And here at Elefant Records we are celebrating that “La Dona Vinguda Del Futur”, written and directed by Marc Rosich and with Guille Milkyway’s special participation, is among the plays included in the program.

The play is partially conceived as a musical, for adults and children (but especially geared towards children 8 and over), and it begins by showing the morning routine of Albert’s family, who live at the speed the TV commercials set. After a an accident at home that leaves them all covered in stains, a woman dressed in galactic attire comes out of the TV screen: the woman from the laundry detergent commercial comes from the future to help them. But the situation surprises the family so much that, after a series of misunderstandings, the woman gets trapped in the present reality. While Albert tries to find a way to return her to the future, the cybernetic woman grows accustomed to the family and stirs up the peace and quiet of their home.

This play is an important step in Marc Rosich’s career – he is one of the most important young artists on the current theater scene, and the usual playwright of the controversial Calixto Bieito in shows like “Voices”, “Don Carlos” and “Plataforma&rdq [ Read more ]

After “Cortometraje”, the last single taken from that marvelous and personal album, “Mi Universo”, Alex Díez is releasing a new 500-copy-limited-edition vinyl single. This time the featured song is “Arizona”, one of the more agile and energetic songs of the aforementioned album, where you can hear those delicious, brilliant sounds they were able to get out of their recording sessions in the Konk Studios in London – those very same studios founded in the early 70s by Dave and Ray Davies (THE KINKS) where groups and artists like BLUR, Elvis Costello, THE ARCTIC MONKEYS, SUEDE and SPIRITUALIZED have recorded.  This single is backed by a delicious B-side: a cover of “Tú Me Dijiste Adios”, originally by LOS BRINCOS, which COOPER takes into their own territory with ease, maintaining the sweetness and melodic skill of the renowned Spanish group from the sixties, but propelling it with a light dose of electric vitamins.

Alex Díez is keeping up his frenetic activity as a mod-pop scene activist: concerts, DJ sessions around Europe (recently we spread the word about his session with Le Mans), new projects we’ll soon be telling you about, and in the midst of all this, he gives us another marvelous album which will definitely
