It seemed like it would be impossible to improve on “Loveless Unbeliever”, but they did it. The album went halfway around the world, showed up on hundreds of “best of” lists of the year, was mentioned by and included in some of the most prestigious press about music and culture in general. Up to four singles came out of their compositions. They toured all around the planet and were a hit wherever they went. And now their new album is here and they have left us totally speechless. “Reading Too Much Into Things Like Everything” is a better version of THE SCHOOL. The arrangements are, if it’s even possible, even more delicate, more elegant; the emotions make your hair stand smoothly on end and the vitality and freshness are just as strong as they were on their first single.

Because Liz and her crew are capable of writing songs like “Where Does Your Heart Belong”, which would stand out on its own strength on a compilation of the best songs by THE RONETTES or THE SUPREMES. The album opens with a song like “What’s Just Begun”, which Brian Wilson and Burt Bacharach would unanimously applaud. Stuart Murdochis thinking that he has to go back to doing songs “It’s Not The Same” and “Never Thought I’d See The Day”. The RAMONES can’t stop dancing to the rhythm of “Why Do You Have To Break My Heart Again”. Jack Nietzche [ Read more ]

THE YEARNING are one of the newest groups to sign to Elefant, where we continue to help give new bands a boost, both national and international ones. They were conceived as a studio project led by Britain’s Joe Moore. Many will compare THE YEARNING to bands like THE SCHOOL or CAMERA OBSCURA, and although there are aesthetic overlaps, there are also substantial differences in the way they conceive music and turn it into something very special of their own. Their sound is lighter, maybe closer to Phil Spector’s wall of sound, and they give it a dreamy tone with accentuated innocence, some of their songs giving off the sense of young romance in a way that owes its debt to Irving Berlin and Brian Wilson. With the delicious voice of Maddie Dobie (only 15 years old) and the collaboration of Justyna Halas (vocals), Gordon Campbell (guitar), Mark Kiff (guitar) and Zoe Illes (cello), they are capable of evoking some of the greatest moments of Motown, somewhere between doo-wop, pop-soul and the classic sixties sound.

This makes us proud to present their first release, a 10” Mini-LP entitled “Jukebox Romance” that really shows the best of all the good things THE YEARNING have to offer: innocent, exciting, hyper-melodic songs. This Mini-LP has A-side that stars three songs extolling the wonder of sweet, young love while the B-side is focused on the more bitter aspects of relationships. So, “You Make Loving’ You Easy” preciously and e [ Read more ]

To continue with our support of the 10” format, we at Elefant Records are releasing a Mini-LP from one of the groups that have just recently become a part of our team – the British group, THE SILVER FACTORY. A few weeks ago they released their debut single, with four splendid songs, on our collection New Adventures in Pop.

The band fronted by Fran Feely formed in the summer of 2008 with the intention of showing off their shared love of music from the sixties and indie-pop. They named the group in homage to Andy Warhol’s work studio, where he had countless events and parties. After several changes in the group’s line-up, with even Fran’s brother, Peter Feely, forming part of the group at one point, THE SILVER FACTORY settled into their definitive line-up when lead vocals were handed over to Marc Johnston (formerly of THE JUNIPERS, he was also partially responsible for the same tasks on the songs of that delightful release, “The Sun Shines Over You”). Currently, alongside Fran (rhythm guitar) and Marc, the band’s line-up consists of Matt Vinall (lead guitar), Luke Headland (bass) and Paul Hobbs (drums).

“If Words Could Kill” is the Leicester band’s grand entrance into music society, with seven songs that offer a more complete and open image of a group that is loyal to its sound. Starting with that inevitable indie-pop hit full of precious arpeggios and guitar arrangements that is the title track, vi [ Read more ]

In the coming days we are going to present the first release from one of Elefant’s newest groups, THE YEARNING. Behind their name lies a studio project led by England’s Joe Moore, with Maddie Dobie on vocals, and with collaborations from Justyna Halas (vocals), Gordon Campbell (guitar), Mark Kiff (guitar), and Zoe Illes (cello). Together, they are capable of evoking some of the greatest moments of Motown, somewhere between doo-wop, pop-soul and the classic sixties sound. To whet your appetites, we’re giving you the first of a collection of three videos, which we will release with a space of about two or three weeks between videos. The videos correspond to three songs from this first release, titled “Jukebox Romance”. The songs are all linked and they tell us a marvelous story.

This first video is for the song that opens the Mini-LP, “You Make Lovin’ You Easy”, and in it we can see a girl walking down the street… We won’t tell you any more about the story, so you can follow it in this and the coming videos that we’ll be releasing soon enough. In the meantime, we’ll let you to enjoy this marvelous song, full of fantastic vocal games in the doo-wop code with echoes of the greats like Dusty Springfield, Blossom Dearie and THE VELVELETTES.

In anticipation of the upcoming release of their first 10” Mini-LP, THE SILVER FACTORY is giving us the video for the album’s title track: “If Words Could Kill”. The band from Leicester already debuted on the Elefant Records single collection, New Adventures in Pop, with their first single, “The Sun Shines over You”.

The video has a clear sixties-styled esthetic that shows us the development of a relationship in three scenes in which three different colors rule – green, red, and violet. All the while Fran Feely’s band demonstrates their talent with pristine arrangements, their love for indie pop and their melancholically romantic lyrics.

 <br />

And since we couldn’t expect anything less, soon we will be able to enjoy their concerts in our country – on Friday, May 4th they will play in the EbroPop festival and on Saturday, May 5th they will be at Elefant Club with COLA JET SET and LOS BONSÁIS. Those are two fantastic opportunities to see one of the bands that has done the most to recover the indie-pop tradition, and put it together with the sounds of the sixties that you just can’t miss!

"Turn Off The Moon”, the advance single from THE PRIMITIVES’ new album “Echoes and Rhymes”. It perfectly represents the feeling and the form of a very special album, since it is versions of unknown songs from the sixties and seventies, originally played by obscure groups with female lead vocalists.

To give you a little advance of such a delicious treat we have chosen “Turn Off The Moon”. The song was originally the B-side of the single “Lolita Ya Ya”, from the soundtrack of Stanley Kubrick’s “Lolita”, and was originally sung by Sue Lyon, the movie’s adolescent star. This time around, the song is revisited with distortion, a touch of punk, and Joe Meek-styled sounds. Accompanying it, there are two songs that express the spirit of the album really well but that are not included on the album. “Can’t Stop The Want”, a cover taken from a single that was released in 1967 by Sandy Sarjeant, a dancer with a curious CV: She moved her hips for the television programs “Ready Steady Go” (UK) and “Beat Club” (Germany, the only country that was able to get copies of this release); she married one of the members of SMALL FACES and we saw her shaking a tail of feathers with Drimble Wedge, a devilish singer played by Peter Cook, who stole the spotlight from Dudley Moore in that particular version of Faust that Stanley Donen filmed and titled “Bedazzled&rdq [ Read more ]

After a brief pause in April because of Easter week, Elefant Club is back with a new, huge party in Siroco club. Three groups that represent Elefant’s current musical line-up and one famous DJ will get on stage and make sure everyone has an unforgettable night, like they’ve done in previous editions of Elefant Club.

COLA JET SET are more than just Elefant’s current music. They are one of the groups who best represent the recent history of our label, and who are currently doing promotion for their new English-language single “Listen and repeat” at important international events like the Glasgow Popfest (UK) or the NYC Popfest (USA), where they will also perform a semi-acoustic concert to introduce their new line-up: Ana, the group’s vocalist, is leaving, as is Estel, the group’s other bassist; both want to focus more on their careers and their families. In their place, Alicia will step in as the lead vocalist, without leaving behind her guitar and keyboards. This concert will be a special occasion that will include new songs as well as part of their old repertoire. LOS BONSÁIS will perform in our club for the second time, to present new songs and their second video, “Temporal”. The video is for one of the songs from their debut single for our New Adventures in Pop collection, a song that clearly marks their punk-pop spirit, sprinkled with distortions and fuzz, with echoes of bands like MARINE GIRLS and S [ Read more ]

COLA JET SET At  NYC Popfest 2012 with the presentation of “Listen and Repeat” with their new line-up

After their stop at Popfest in Madrid, Berlin and Glasgow in 2011, COLA JET SET have been invited to participate in New York’s (USA) Popfest this year. The 2012 NYC POPFEST will be held from May 17th to the 20th in various theatres and clubs in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Groups likeTHE POOH STICKS, COMET GAIN, LADYBUG TRANSISTOR, PUSHY PARENTS (Elefant Records), WHITE TOWN, SPEEDMARKET AVENUE (Elefant Records) and THE WAVE PICTURES, among many others, will also be present, in what will clearly be a dream ensemble for any indie pop devotee.

It’s the perfect occasion for COLA JET SET to introduce their new EP “Listen and Repeat” to the U.S. The EP was recorded in English as an homage to all the British and American friends they’ve made through social networks and their concerts in Liverpool, London, Glasgow and the 2009 Indietracks festival in Derby.

It’s also the perfect occasion to introduce the group’s new line-up: Ana and Estel are leaving CJS to focus on their work and their families, and Alicia is taking over as lead vocalist, but without leaving the guitar or the keyboards behind. Ruth (acoustic guitar and backing vocals), Dani (electric bass), Manel (piano and organ), Joan (drums) and Felipe (electric guitar, backing vocals) are all staying on, as is Gerard (sound technician).

MINI-LP 10" [White Colour Vinyl] [Limited Edition] Includes a free digital MP3 download [320 kbps]

Release Date: 26-03-2012

After two incredible, youthful, urgent singles that are already collector’s items, Adriá Arbona and Paulita Demaíz are still giving shape to their promising career full of future hits as successful as “Oso Panda”, “Lo Que Me Gusta Del Verano Es Poder Tomar Helado” and “La Chica Vampira” have been. Now, the duo from Mallorca is about to give us a series of Mini-LPs in 10” format that we at Elefant are going to begin to release to bring back this format that was so common in the 80s and that we liked so much, albums with 6 or 7 songs for a format that is becoming more relevant than ever with the way current music consumption is evolving.

For an event of such caliber, PAPA TOPO is delving into the more elegant aspect of their pop, keeping the dose of addictiveness intact and proving that, despite their young age, they enjoy the versatility and open-mindedness that few can boast, backed by a band of up to 15 members, including string and wind sections, the solid production of Gerard Civat, Manel Ibñañez and PAPA TOPO themselves. We have proof of this on “En Un Momento”, the song that opens this release, with a bit of Jeanet [ Read more ]

TRACKLIST: 01. Never Thought I'd See The Day 02. When He Kisses Me 03. Where Does Your Heart Belongcategoría 04. I Wouldn't Know What To Do

Yes, they’re back. Liz and her bandmates from Cardiff are back, after “Loveless Unebeliever” was released in dozens of countries all over the world, and was a huge success with both the critics and the public. A little while ago, even Molly Ringwald, the actress from movies like “The Breakfast Club” and “Pretty in Pink”, declared herself to be a fan of the group.

And, for opening our mouths, we get this marvelous single as a preview for their imminent album, “Reading Too Much Into Things Like Everything”. And this return is marked by a collection of songs even more impeccable than their acclaimed debut. The production is even more careful, the palette of emotions opens like a rainbow through a window wet with raindrops. The elegance, the melancholy and their oh-so-personal joie de vivre all shine with unusual brightness.  As an example of all this, we have the two A sides that make up this first pre-release, and which will be included on the album.

“Never Thought I'd See The Day” creates that Scottish sound that is so full of energy and vitality, with echoes of the best BELLE & SEBASTIAN, with their usual lyri [ Read more ]

Good news for LA CASA AZUL fans and followers – here at Elefant we’re going to re-release one of their most looked-for releases, the single “Como Un Fan”, a four-song, CD-Single released in June, 2005. In honor of this special occasion, we’re going to release it as a limited-edition, 10” white vinyl with two extra songs that aren’t on the original release.

The original release of the single included, apart from the title track – one of the hymns of Guille Milkyway’s repertoire, taken from his album “Tan Simple Como El Amor” – two previously unreleased songs that so far have only been available on the original single, and which could stand alone on any of LA CASA AZUL’s albums. “Viva (Un Poco Más) El Amor” begins with that hypnotic vocal symphony inherited from Brian Wilson at his most inspired and gives way to a sunny, summery song, nourished and energetic as only our beloved Guille can do. “Debería Plantearme Cambiar&r [ Read more ]

TRACKLIST: 01. Somos De Nesquik 02. Somos De Nesquik (Instrumental) 03. Échale Nesquik 04. Échale Nesquik (Instrumental)

SINGLE 7" [Vanilla Colour Vinyl] [Limited Edition 700 Copies]  Includes a free digital MP3 download [320 kbps]

Many people know the facet of Guille Milkyway as a composer for commercials, television shows (now on televisions all over the world with “Jelly Jamm”), and movie soundtracks (with a Goya for “Yo, Tambien”). That’s why Elefant Records is going to release a very special single with the two theme songs that Guille wrote for the ad campaigns for Nesquik, in both the radio and the instrumental versions. Back in 1979, Jacno, of the duet ELLI ET JACNO (songwriters for Lio’s hit “Amoureux Solitaires”) wrote a song for Nesquik based on his big hit, “Rectangle”, a song that Guille has always liked.

Of the two songs, the first, “Échale Nesquik”, recorded in 2008, has that speedy pop sound so personal to and associated with LA CASA AZUL, and the numerous collection of arrangements that are the house specialty. On the other side, from 2012, “Somos De Nesquik” shows us a more saturated sound that is danceable and modern, with its sights set clearly on the dance floor. Further, the digital version of the single will include versions of both songs in Catalan, and some really curious additional takes, like the “Soft Pia [ Read more ]
