We just got to Valencia and we can’t wait to tell you about LA CASA  AZUL’s incredible tour-opening concert . The Mirror club was full with all tickets completely sold out and Guille was exuberant and exultant like we’ve rarely seen him before. He was backed on stage for the first time by two musicians, and they played a selection of the best songs from LA CASA  AZUL’s discography, including a good part of “La Polinesia Meridional”. The stage set was incredible, full of imagination and fantasy, with a light and color spectacle that went beyond a concept and a projection and became an integral part of the concert, thanks to the interaction with the musicians and the songs, something we dare to say is practically unheard of with national groups. Don’t miss a single one of their upcoming concerts!!

Without even enough time to wake up from the dream, we’re bringing you the video, specifically, for “La Polinesia Meridional”, created by Jean-Marie Marbach. He is a respected director in the audiovisual world, and he has won prizes in several festivals in the world with his video for THE GENTLE PEOPLE, “H20”, which is an incredible futuristic hallucination. In this case, we can watch Guille escape from a force-field in order to get to paradise, his Polinesia Meridional. The video delves deeper into the escapist concept that runs throughout the album and ends in a precious, exciting and evoc [ Read more ]

Dj [Luis Elefant]

Luis Elefant [DJ Polar] aka Luis Calvo, hence Luis Calvo aka Luis Elefant [DJ Polar]. One wouldn't exist without the other, of course, and viceversa. Luis Calvo started spinning records and growing a passion for music, and Luis Elefant [DJ Polar] took the flame and kept on djing and spreading the best recordings in pop music whilst his alter ego became one of the most important persons in the last fifteen years of the Spanish independent scene.

Luis Calvo is the founder and director of indie record label Elefant Records, one of the most respected and renown independent pop record companies in and outside Spain (its records reach such important markets as Japan, the United Kingdom or Taiwan, and are distributed to many other countries). He was also founder and codirector of the internationally known Benicàssim Festival, which he nurtured and helped become an unavoidable date in the international summer listings. He founded and directed music monthly magazine Spiral, and for more than ten years he was the host and DJ on his own radio show "Viaje a los sueños polares", broadcasted nationwide via Los 40 Principales, the most important commercial music station in Spain.

On March 3rd we have the “Mad Madrid 5×25” party, where 5 groups from the capital city will play for 25 minutes each, with a range of groups from established ones that have already put out albums, like BLA, to Belén and Luis from L-KAN’s parallel project, to others that will soon form part of our “New Adventures in Pop” collection – as is the case with TEACHER TEACHER (a super new band formed by María(CHARADES), Cristina (WILD HONEY) y Guille (WILD HONEY, THE MITTENS) – and including some who already form a part of that collection, like ULTRANOL, BAND À PART and CAPITÁN SUNRISE. Some of the best representations of the new pop being made in Madrid, who can ensure that it will be a special, magical night, where surprises abound. And there will be DJs to finish off the party on the highest note possible.

There were few national groups in the second half of the eighties that were as big and as successful as AEROLINEAS FEDERALES. Their choruses are extremely catchy, their carefee attitude and youthful melodies got a huge public hooked on them, and made their five studio albums sell thousands of copies. Songs like “No Me Beses En Los Labios”, “Soy Una Punk”, “Sólo Quiero Divertirme”, “Alegra La Cara”, “No Sé Ligar”, “Hop Hop”, or their fun versions of “Summer Nights” from the movie “Grease” and “Video Killed The Radio Star” by THE BUGGLES, respectively re-titled “Vacaciones” and “Mi Video No Tiene Mando A Distancia”, now form a part of the history of Spanish pop and have clearly been influential to bands like VACACIONES, L-KAN, JUNIPER MOON and LOS FRESONES REBELDES.

Well, if we announced a few days ago that the band of Silvino Díaz,Miguel Costas (who was also a founding member of SINIESTRO TOTAL),Luis Santamarina,Rosa Costas andCoral Alonso are getting back together for a series of concerts in 2011 and 2012, there’s more news now with Elefant Records’ release of a CD and a double-10” pink-colored vinyl, with some of the demos recorded by the group from Vigo. The demos are from the period from 1983 – 1993, practically the whole of the group’s lifespan. And, this album will kick off a n [ Read more ]

As many of you already know, the first Saturday of every month is the day we celebrate Elefant Club in Madrid’s legendary bar, Siroco, located on 3 San Dimas Street. Siroco has been totally remodelled, to better suit their fantastic concerts and unforgettable DJ sessions, which are becoming more and more popular. Groups like THE SCHOOL, BAND À PART, FITNESS FOREVER, PAPA TOPO, LOS BONSÁIS, SINGLE, CORAZÓN, GUATAFÁN, CAPITÁN SUNRISE and DJs like Guille Milkyway, Pepito Prieto, Bob Stanley, and our very own Luis Elefant have already made stops on Siroco’s stage, making every single person in the audience twist and shout, in events that are already basically obligatory for anyone who loves the best pop. Nights like these get written indelibly in one’s memory.

We now have new, confirmed dates for the upcoming months. To start, on March 3rd we have the “Mad Madrid 5×25” party, where 5 groups from the capital city will play for 25 minutes each, with a range of groups from established ones that have already put out albums, like BLA, to Belén and Luis from L-KAN’s parallel project, to others that will soon form part of our “New Adventures in Pop” collection – as is the case with TEACHER TEACHER (a super new band formed by María (CHARADES), Cristina (WILD HONEY) y Guille (WILD HONEY, THE MITTENS) – and including some who already form a part of that collectio [ Read more ]

First there was the virtual tour that everyone had so much to say about how original and unique it was in our country, a tour that introduced the songs from COOPER’s new album, “Mi Universo”, leaking it out day by day via different online media. Now the moment has arrived to step up to the plate, because the national tour for Alex Díez and company is beginning, with almost twenty dates confirmed so far, as well as shows in some of our country’s most prestigious festivals, like the FIB [Festival de Benicassim] and the ContemPopranea, among others.

One of the best pieces (some say the best) of Alex’s career needs an appropriate coming out party. The songs are more autobiographical than ever before, and they were recorded at the Konk Studios in London – the studios that were founded in the early 70s by Dave and Ray Davies (THE KINKS), and where artists like BLUR, Elvis Costello, THE ARCTIC MONKEYS, SUEDE, SPIRITUALIZED, and of course, THE KINKS themselves have recorded, among many others. The excellent production work on“Mi Universo” wasdone by José María Rosillo What’s more, as has happened before with the singles for “Cierra Los Ojos” and “Rabia”, everyone who goes to the concerts will get a free single as a gift with their concert ticket, and that’s the only way to get a copy of this single. The previously mentioned singles have become collector’s [ Read more ]

LA CASA AZUL’s concerts always try to transport the audience to a work full of color and fantasy, a visual experience that goes beyond the typical concept of a concert. They are an explosion of energy that is projected from the stage and, like a futuristic medicine, carried through the air like a virus that penetrates the bodies of the audience members and takes them to total ecstatic happiness. “La Polinesia Meridional” is an ode to escapism, and its accompanying tour is trying to be, above all, this: a parenthesis in time, in our lives, a relaxing moment to disconnect from everything and enjoy the songs of Guille Milkyway.

After years of waiting, the new album has arrived, and in March we can finally begin to enjoy LA CASA AZUL’s concerts again, but this time with new scenery and a lot of new things. See you in the Polinesia Meridional!!

Here at Elefant Records we continue to support new groups, and we continue to feed our New Adventures in Pop Collection with new singles. Bands that aren’t so unknown anymore, like PAPA TOPO, BAND À PART, GUATATAFÁN and ED WOOD LOVERS have been released in the collection, as well as some glittering foreign promises, like PUSHY PARENTS, THE SILVER FACTORY and NATURE SET. New Adventures in Pop is proof of our dedication and identity, full of surprises for all the avid listeners of new and refreshing sounds, and these three new names are three new national promises, for whom we definitely hope we’re helping a bright future develop: the indie-pop with a punk-noise edge of LOS BONSAIS, the warm, pristine, promising pop of CAPITAN SUNRISE and the unusual garage pop of KOKOSHCA. They are three new groups who each fill their 7” color-vinyl, limited edition singles (identifying characteristics of all of the singles in this collection) with proof of the effervescent, interesting and noticeably diverse sounds around in today’s national pop scene. Let’s celebrate with their fantastic songs.

NEW ADVENTURES IN POP 012

They are already old friends of our New Adventures in Pop collection, but we couldn’t resist the temptation to have them among us again. After that “No sé por que” that disappeared from the stores at the speed of light and which brought them so much recognition both in Spain and abroad, we now have “Una persona normal con gafas de metal”, the new single that enriches our special collection of little colored limited-edition vinyls. It has four marvelous songs, two of which are new and the last two of which are already known, although here in a different version, by the addicts of their demos.

The title track is one of those house specialty luminous and summery songs, with echoes of the infinite strength of FITNESS FOREVER, but with a tremendously danceable chorus. “Blankets” is delicious, with marvelous arrangements that remind us of SAMBASSADEUR, CLUB 8 and CAMERA OBSCURA, mixing hope and melancholy. “La merienda” is a song that Javi and Coral wrote for Agustín Fuentes’ (the director of the Contempopránea Festival) ra [ Read more ]
